[It is strange, Padmé thinks, that they would just assign some job that someone doesn't have any knowledge about. Could one fake it? Possibly. On the other hand, should they not want someone who does have some drive at the job they have been given?]
A strange choice, then, unless they know something that you do not.
[But she gives a small nod. Her own description sets it out easily enough for her.]
[He shakes his head.] Almost nobody here is. Just the captains are, I think.
[Ginko takes a moment to think that over. He's not sure what can even be said about his world, let alone what another person is particularly going to want to hear about it. So he starts simple.]
Um... well, we don't have a lot of the stuff that they've got here. As far as, uh... technology, I mean. There's... lots of farms and things, at least where I've been. And, uh-- we've got these things called mushi.
[That's one thing that most of the other people here DON'T seem to have back home.]
[ OH GOD SHE WASN'T EXPECTING HIM TO ACTUALLY GO FOR IT. She stares at the hand for a loooooooong moment before actually remembering to move and take the hand - be proper and act like an adult. She could totally do this. He's just a guy who happens to be super famous and amazing. ]
Darcy Lewis, hi. It's awesome to meet you, definitely not something I ever really expected. So, y'know - bucket lists or something. Hi. Wait, I said that already.
[A job. That answers... very little. He'd been hoping for at least an idea what kind of use they'd be assessing him for. Not that time to prepare was likely to help too much in his current condition. Still, at least this suggests some kind of alternative to being scrapped out of hand.
Assuming he makes the right decisions. It's a heavy-handed euphemism, but he's run with worse, and the mainframe's not about to start things off by contradicting his new friend. Human or not (and the naming pattern suggests so), the operator holding your access panel is definitely always right.]
<Removing hardware is not-->
[No. No, no, he's removed already. It takes more effort than it should to shut the script off, and then to break out of the small loop of terror the difficulty prompts. He's still here. He can still make it through this.]
You'd know better than I would. [The words try for a humor they don't quite reach; he has no idea what shape his system's in. Or just how much he's still attached to.] But hey, if nothing's stopping you? Knock yourself out.
[ Someone else should be responsible for this. Someone closer to all these Avengers, someone who would be better at interacting with them. Medusa can't help but think she must seem cold and cruel to do this to strangers. ]
I'm afraid it's more complicated than that.
[ This was easier with Tony and Dr. Banner. They're human. She knows them. Medusa is struggling to think of a significant conversation she's held with The Vision. And for once, the movement of her hair stills as she focuses on the best way to explain something preposterous to what she assumes is a highly logical android. ]
I assume where you come from someone has theorized about the existence of a multiverse. Yes?
[The hair ruffling gets a tiny snort, but if Mettaton moves his hand, two tiny paws reach up to pull the hand closer and look at it. Asriel seems a little fascinated by Mettaton's metal parts.
That gets interrupted when he discovers his toys actually aren't there.]
Beary Bear isn't here?! But I can't go to sleep without him!
[It was weird spending a few days as a baby. Not terrible - it was actually kind of nice, but definitely weird. What else was weird though? Waking up and suddenly your clothes being way too small for you.
Using a blanket to cover himself, he cautiously calls out to whoever's in the room.]
Mom? Frisk - whoa.

Snout's still the same. Two ears. Two eyes...

There's a crash from the bedroom, as Asriel tries to leap out of bed and run to the nearest mirror. He doesn't make it that far, as he tangles himself in the blanket and immediately lands on the floor. Seems even with age, Asriel hasn't gotten any less clumsy.]
[The crash is definitely what draws Toriel from the bathroom connected to the private room their family stays in.] Asriel-?
[She stares at the gangly lump that is her son on the floor. Shocked followed shortly by amusement at her child's current predicament. There is something else there, a warmth settled in her chest at getting a peek at what her son should be soon enough with time.] You've gotten very tall, I see.
The question hits him a little wrong right in the gut. He's not used to being asked that, because back home there's no easy answer and no one likes to dwell on all the ways that they aren't okay, anyway. It's important not to dwell if you want to enjoy anything in life and there's still plenty to enjoy.
"I've had worse, if that's what you mean." He shrugs a little tenderly. "Nothing so bad it won't heal."
It's all about survival for him, not comfort. It's the difference between necessity and luxury.
Okay that is terrifying. Remind me not to sleep too well at night, okay buddy?
[ He pats Andyr's bicep awkwardly. That's probably a bad idea when you're dealing with people from the future who might airlock you in your in sleep. ]
Uh, my name is Stiles, by the way.
[ And then he goes for a handshake. Definitely not awkward. ]
Then you have a better knowledge than I do, I'm afraid. [Which has been a personal choice, for the most part. She didn't want the entire future spoiled for her, though it was impossible to avoid learning some things: like the Avengers, for example. Or about her role in SHIELD.]
But thank you, for the kind words. [she does appreciate them, even if she's a bit sheepish about it. It's a bit overwhelming, to come from a time where your hard work is constantly credited to men, only to learn that one day, others finally see your true value.]
"Your mom is here?" Ahsoka runs through the list of those from their world that she actually knows, but she isn't entirely sure who it might be. But she knows this girl is from their galaxy. Sure of it, really. The lightsaber she spotted confirms it, now the question was just who was she? She doesn't know if Padmé has any more children besides Luke and Leia, and there's always the chance Jaina is from their future, too. She wouldn't be the first, after all. Unfortunately, her name tells her nothing.
Sheer numbers are not the only factor in a rebellion. I doubt very much they have no way to keep us down, even considering those who have lived on the ship long-term and know it well may outnumber them. They wouldn't risk moving forward if they had no way to control us. I don't believe anyone would bet on a person being logical or cooperative in our situation.
[Armin eats a little bit more. The food here is worse than the place he was before by large measures, but nothing he's lived through is worse than being a refugee. Not yet, at least.]
Consider the consequences of a takeover - we would still all have to decide where to go in order to make the ship work correctly. It could not be a truly democratic situation, because I doubt we all want the same things or could agree on how to enact them, which means in the worst case scenario, we become self-governing but once again end up in tyranny. If we failed, or they even suspect us of plotting against them, we could be killed outright or stranded on an inhospitable planet. I should clarify what I said - if they are telling the truth, the situation is amenable. It is at least the best of our various options. There is, however, really no such thing as a kind jailer. They must have something to gain from this elaborate arrangement. Maybe they're feeding rebels into the food processors, and we're all a sacrifice to some lonely sun in the middle of deserted space. Hard to say.
All of what you say is true, Doctor Banner. I suppose I have no real reason to be nervous. [Yet he still is. Though, he supposes, that is a rather human trait as well, and proof of what Dr. Banner is talking about. He's finding more and more that there isn't always a reason behind what one feels. One just does.
Which is not unlike the responses elicited by art, literature, or music, now that he thinks about it. He smiles.]
Thank you.
Banner's words are kind, and a comfort to hear. The doctor could, after all, be considered one of the foremost experts on what Vision is. As much as one can be. Vision is not sure he would even call himself an expert on most days, so these insights are always useful to him.]
I imagine they have you working in the lab, correct?
[Before waking up in a strange bed in a strange, cold and metal, room, Eggsy'd been celebrating the holiday's with his mum. His mum. Where is his mum? She'd tucked him in, wouldn't tell him why she was so sad after meeting the nice man who'd given him a medal, and now he was here.
Eggsy's alone in the room, is quiet and careful as he tries to open the door. He's in the hall and there's nobody and suddenly there's a - monster. It's big and what is it? He yells at it to leave him alone and then runs in the opposite direction. He runs until he's tired, curling up beside a grate in the wall in a long hallway. He wraps his arms around his head and waits for his mum to find him, whispering to himself not to cry.]
[ When Eggsy misses their standing appointment to breakfast together, Harry is immediately worried about what's happening with Eggsy. That worry intensifies when he doesn't answer any MID messages and his room is empty save for Stark who looks agitated. Of course, after tracking Eggsy down via the MID he immediately understands what's happened.
No one is safe from the Ingress's whims it seems. 17 years gone in an instant. Harry walks up and crouches down in front of the boy, keeping his voice gentle. ]
[As Milly runs out of sight, Megatron feels the dull sensation of something striking and scuffing his shoulder, shoving it backwards. The strike certainly surprising for a fleshling, even one in a battle suit.]
[He's forced back a step to regain his balance, which is a hell of a blow for someone who barely comes up to his knee, but the newly-forged Cybertronian armor shows only bare a hint of surface damage. Shockwave did his due diligence in creating a much improved war frame.]
[ There's a pit in her stomach, clammy as a melting ice cube, radiating waves of dread up her spine to the base of her skull. It's all she can do to reason past it and focus on the man crouched beside her. She'd know a lot about that sense of violation he's experiencing-- in DW, every prisoner had been fitted with a metal collar. Deadmen and death row inmates had the additional pleasure of being constantly pumped with poison, just one of the promoter's "incentives" to keep them fighting in his Carnival Corpses for enough points to afford the antidote.
Karako mirrors his gripping of the device and hardly feels the sleek glass and metal. When she speaks, her tone is is low and rueful, knowing. ]
You'd be surprised. [ Her fingers dig, prying between the MID and the back of her hand though it makes the bands securing the device go tight against her wrist and fingers. She's feeling for the injection site. ]
[Doesn't need to turn around to be able to recognize that cadence. Or the flattery (it's the flattery, mostly.)]
Dorian.
[He casts a glance around at the mage before turning it back on the window and his reflection– and then back again, the gold-green irises of his prosthetic eyes catching the light (what little of it there is in the dim hallways, anyway) the way that only metal can. And, judging by the look in them, he hasn't quite figured out how to make his eyes look anything but harrowed.
Surprise at the other man's sudden arrival quickly fading, Adam remembers himself – it's almost a reflex, the nerve impulse that triggers the darkened lenses to deploy from the comma-shaped frames on either side of his face and shield his eyes once more. With them hidden from view, he suddenly appears that much more at ease and he finally turns to face Dorian completely.]
We've got to stop meeting like this.
[As far as jokes go– well. It's an attempt, at least.
Seriously, though. There have got to be places about this ship that aren't dark hallways with windows looking out into space.]
[ She smirks at Dutch's comment, catching on to her move immediately and grabbing the woman's ankle when she brings the leg to Tex's side. She could throw her opponent now, and that would be her usual style, but instead she holds and hooks her arm under Dutch's knee to force her to make a one-legged hop closer. ]
[She lets him, still reeling from this latest batch of information. For once she doesn't even have to try to block out outside psychic noise; there's far too much chaos in her own thoughts.]
Don't. I asked you.
[So technically it's on her, but to be fair she hadn't thought it could be anything that crazy. It sounds like some terrible movie plot.]
This ship seems to like collecting our family. You know you have two uncles here, yes?
[Vision's here too, but Wanda's still trying to get her head around that. She's never thought of him like...that.]
[Elizabeth gives Kirk a skeptical, guarded look complete with arched eyebrow. What does he mean 'like we are now'?]
Is there a reason we shouldn't be speaking calmly right now? As far as I'm concerned, you're a member of the crew, and regardless of what you may or may not have done previous to arriving here, you deserve my respect.
[She leans her hip against the desk and folds her arms.] I'm not about to go kick down Egan's door and start screaming at him, if that's what you're thinking. I realize most people on this ship run on the high end of emotional, but I haven't put a tranquilizer dart in anybody yet.
[ Valarie repeats the terminology with care, giving a slow nod for a moment, though his eyes are transfixed on the light again, eyes squinting, though they've adjusted just a bit more now despite the contrast of the light against the dark. He tilts his head just a little bit. Like a second heart? ]
I take it your first one doesn't work so well on its own then...
[ His lips twist a little bit. ]
For the most part, vision's a little spotty, but I could have come out of it worse, I think.

Wanda Maximoff | MCU
>> Tommy
[She lets him, still reeling from this latest batch of information. For once she doesn't even have to try to block out outside psychic noise; there's far too much chaos in her own thoughts.]
Don't. I asked you.
[So technically it's on her, but to be fair she hadn't thought it could be anything that crazy. It sounds like some terrible movie plot.]
This ship seems to like collecting our family. You know you have two uncles here, yes?
[Vision's here too, but Wanda's still trying to get her head around that. She's never thought of him like...that.]

Elizabeth DeWitt || Bioshock Infinite
For Kirk
[Yet.]

valarie milos / original
tony (616)
Electromagnetic repulsor generator.
