Sheer numbers are not the only factor in a rebellion. I doubt very much they have no way to keep us down, even considering those who have lived on the ship long-term and know it well may outnumber them. They wouldn't risk moving forward if they had no way to control us. I don't believe anyone would bet on a person being logical or cooperative in our situation.
[Armin eats a little bit more. The food here is worse than the place he was before by large measures, but nothing he's lived through is worse than being a refugee. Not yet, at least.]
Consider the consequences of a takeover - we would still all have to decide where to go in order to make the ship work correctly. It could not be a truly democratic situation, because I doubt we all want the same things or could agree on how to enact them, which means in the worst case scenario, we become self-governing but once again end up in tyranny. If we failed, or they even suspect us of plotting against them, we could be killed outright or stranded on an inhospitable planet. I should clarify what I said - if they are telling the truth, the situation is amenable. It is at least the best of our various options. There is, however, really no such thing as a kind jailer. They must have something to gain from this elaborate arrangement. Maybe they're feeding rebels into the food processors, and we're all a sacrifice to some lonely sun in the middle of deserted space. Hard to say.
'Course they wouldn't believe it. Cause we ain't. [She snaps her fingers, purses her lips.] But if they got somethin' over on us, they ain't showed it yet. Was a lotta fightin' back a few months. They didn't get eager to use somethin' to stop any of that.
[Her expression goes from shocked to disgusted to annoyed in rapid fashion.]
Don't go talkin' on makin' people into food so casual like. That's gross. And ain't not enough people went missing for that to be the case. They used to feed us way to much for that. And who says we'd have to go get that damn thing fixed? Some of us might just take off on our own. Find a different machine. Other's exist out there, ya know? We saw some a long while back.
the girl;
