move & lull "Sometimes, the thing that brings us together also pulls us apart. " The beginning of the month was a whirlwind of confusion—for both seasoned and new members of the crew. Link’d Inc’s unsavory methods for obtaining information were revealed, the company’s front runner was murdered and planted on the ship, and with the help of Benjamin Link, the crew was able to free the kidnapped children and unlock the ship so that the Moira could get as far away as possible. It was a mess, but after the refugees were taken to a nearby by planet to start over, things have finally begun to settle down. The ship also has more crew than it’s ever had, and that can only mean one thing: more work. An unfortunate side effect of having so many bodies in one place, everyone is being asked to contribute; the captains implore everyone to chip in and do their share. Clean up after yourselves, don’t miss your shifts, and give fellow crew members a hand with their tasks if they can’t get them done on time. ☄ SPACEWALK ( 02.16 - 02.23 ) Eventually, Manasseh comes to the crew with a training opportunity. The captains are well aware that not everyone on board have learned essential skills for surviving and working in space. To remedy that, she has offered to take a week to train groups in the skill of performing space walks on the hull. Those who already have experience are welcomed as assistant instructors. Those willing will learn how to safely don a spacesuit and secure oxygen lines and tethers—for both themselves and others. All skills that will come in handy in case there is a need for emergency repairs, or if the crew encounters a low-atmosphere environment they wish to explore. Mysteriously, there is also a promise of something interesting on the horizon for those willing to learn. ☄ TREATS N' SWEETS ( 02.16 - EVENING ) As a way of extending an olive branch to the crew, the captains have cleared out the kitchen and mess hall early in the afternoon. Later that evening, the crew is asked to come down - via their MIDs - as the captains have a surprise for them. The tables are lined with finger foods, sandwiches, pretzels and chips, but the table in the very back is where the captains are lingering. They’ve made desserts for the crew, but they aren’t just any typical sweet concoction. They are each unique, and there are small, hand-written signs in front of each: •JUST RELAX: Mint chocolate chip ice cream scooped out into bowls and is the most sweet of the three. The first bite does little to the person eating it, but each subsequent taste results in an increasingly relaxed state. The more that is consumed, the more mellow the person becomes. •BE HONEST: A delicate concoction of science and the culinary arts, this dessert is refreshing and semi-sweet. The fruity flavors burst in your mouth, loosening your tongue, and result in a brief period of honesty. The reactions vary from person to person—anywhere from being more blunt than normal to answering any question that is asked without a filter. The effects wear off after an hour. •YOU'RE SWEET: A selection of small chocolate cheesecakes offer something rich and decadent to enjoy. Each one brings something a little different in terms of flavor, the taste lingering for some time after you’re done. Some make you feel indulgent, some make you feel romantic; this makes you feel both. Those that sample this dessert will feel lighter, happier, and more likely to indulge in romantic endeavors. The effects last for only one night, dissipating after a good night’s sleep. Those that do not require sleep will suffer the effects for two days. ☄ LANTERNS IN THE BLACK ( 02.23 ) The day starts out differently than most. The captains send a message saying that everyone has been granted light duty for the day, and once they finish their necessary chores, they are given the remainder of it to themselves. Around midday, an announcement will be made. The pilgrim fleet of Librae Prime will be performing their yearly Celebration of Life. They are on their way to a system decades away, and each year, they celebrate the lives gained and lost within their ranks by releasing a multitude of brightly colored lanterns out into space. The Pilgrims make a habit of inviting ships within range to participate as it is a joyful event for them. The entire crew is welcome to watch from the observation deck, the lights dimmed so the view can be properly appreciated, but those members of the crew who have participated in the space walk lessons or have previous experience have a special opportunity all their own. Manasseh invites them to the airlock with a supply of flying lanterns and an offer to put their new-found skills to use by releasing the Moira’s own lanterns. The morning after the flight of the lanterns a special surprise will await everyone in their mailboxes. A small lantern sits waiting for each member of the crew. It casts a soft light comparable to a simple nightlight and will hover in a stationary position when activated.

A. I know a guy who's tough, but sweet.

She doesn't actually have any basis of comparison for this. Probably something similar happened at Uni, but she's pretty sure it involved different, creative cocktails and happened in someone's dorm room and not possibly mind altering food in a spaceship's mess hall.

She tries them all. For no other reason than to see if they actually do have an actual effect or if it's more of a placebo effect: an effect is suggested and so the effect occurs.

As it turns out, it's not a placebo. Anyone who has met Lara at any point might be startled to see her now, loose limbed, entierly at ease and smiling and nearly drunk on the combined effects of the cheesecake and ice cream. "I would recommend just having one."


B. It's your chance, do your dance at the Space Jam!

Lara is a little unsure about this. She's an archaeologist. Not only is her expertise based entierly in the past, most of it is buried. But... But she's also not the type to pass up an opportunity to learn something. So she's there, inspecting a space suit carefully before trying to pull it on.

The week before feels a little more like a lifetime away. Worn and tired again, Lara's at the observation deck. It hadn't seemed the safest or more sensible thing for her to go out and help release the lanterns. She leans her forehead against the glass and counts the stars and waits for the lanterns to be released.

"Just one what?"

Miles sidles over to lean against the wall next to Lara, blinking owlishly up at her. He's had the same combination of desserts -- Ivan slipped him the ice cream without telling him just what it was, and Tobi had offered up the cheesecake with no explanation, and by then, Miles hadn't been in the mood to demand one. For someone who usually deals only in extremes, seeing Miles somewhere in the middle, mellowed out without being in a black pit of depression, is probably sort of unnerving to anyone who knows him. It'd be unnerving as hell to himself, but the ice cream seems to have taken the edge off his paranoia well enough that he's not concerned at the moment. The cheesecake was good, too -- Miles feels good, anyway, and there's a particular warmth to the grin he directs up at Lara. She looks nice tonight, all smiling and relaxed. Miles isn't sure he's ever seen her smile like this. She always looks nice, even when she's sneaking around for dead bodies and dropping cops like a back-alley brawler. Hell, especially then. Maybe nice isn't the word he's looking for. Anyway...

His gaze drifts away from Lara to a half-empty plate of desserts that someone had apparently filled and then abandoned at a nearby table. "Ah," he says, enlightened, and lets out a short laugh that almost comes out giddy. "Too late, I guess. I've had..." He taps a finger to his lips, then aborts that gesture with a wave of his hand. "A few. They're good, though. And I don't usually go in for sweets."

SPACEWALK WALK WALK WALK

[ The sound of his own breath is deafening at first when he's outfitted with helmet and suit. Then he hears his laugh in the enclosed space of his hardy clear helmet and it only makes him laugh harder. This is something he never expected to do in his lifetime, but always dreamed about ever since he started reading Flash Gordon serials. Now he finally gets to live those same adventures!

But excited or not, his initial excursion outside is a little terrifying. Feeling his weightless body in the vacuum of space, even after careful preparation and preemptive training, is a little overwhelming. Still, Bucky Barnes is the last to cower in the face of the unknown. He dives headfirst into trouble, and that's not going to stop now. He guides his tether down the hull of the spaceship and simply enjoys the beauty of infinite blackness while he acclimates. ]

[ With more experience under his belt comes more confidence in mastering the big black. Which means why not try something more dangerous? What can go wrong? After learning about more free-walking suits onboard, Bucky is all for trying out a little space trekking without the pesky tether. This bad boy uses some sort of... well it's sciencey, but the point is! He can literally walk across the hull without the fear of simply floating off into the vacuum of space. Perhaps he should say with little fear because the instructors tell him this isn't fool proof and blah blah, yeah, he's got it!

It's a little tricky at first to remember to keep his entire foot grounded before bringing up its counterpart for the next step, but it sure is a whole different experience; surreal even. It's like a gravity field in space as he walks along the smooth hull of the Moira. Anyone he walks past will get a wave from a very chipper forties boy. ]


TREATS N'SWEETS

[ If there's free food, Bucky's there to get his share. And like any proper manchild, he saves room for sweets, finding the small buffet table of "special" food. Most of the descriptions make him chuckle, all except for Be Honest. He already suffers from foot in mouth disorder, that and he carries too many military secrets and identities to even joke about taking a bite of the dessert. The others seem relatively harmless, so he starts with the mint ice cream first and eventually works his way back to the chocolate cheesecake.

Being this relaxed is a real novelty. Wound up tighter than a chihuahua most days, Bucky's quickly becoming a fan of this loose-limb feeling. And friendly or flirty, he can be found sitting at a relatively empty table digging into either treat slowly to relish the flavor and mood. ]


LANTERNS IN THE BLACK

[ After the incredible opportunity to release a lantern into space, Bucky returns to the observation deck to get another look at the display outside of the cumbersome spacesuits. He's a little sweaty dressed down to his undershirt and regulation fatigue pants, but he's got a definite glow on his face when he stomps through. ]

Hey! Hey, that one's mine!

[ He shouts it to anyone that happens to be in earshot, leaning up against the "glass" to get a better look at all the lanterns drifting off. ]

[Scott has experience with suits. He has experience with being inside a suit when everything around you is moving fast. He has absolutely no experience with walking around on the outside of a spaceship, but somehow he manages it just fine.

A combination of what he does know and being a quick learner, makes this easier for him. He isn't as scared as he probably should be when he goes out, but he's having fun so when the captain tells him to go out for a second time and see if anyone needs help, he does just that. She probably shouldn't put that responsibility in a stranger's hands, but he's in no position to complain.

He hears the laughter echo through the comm as he gets closer, keeping his feet spread for balance, his own tether in hand.]

☄ Spacewalk | Outside the Ship | Open
[When Niko was a little boy, sometimes he would be lucky enough to go into the closest town with power and watch TV, see the rockets take off. Sometimes he would pick up newspapers and look at the images on the front. And, in his deepest imagination, he would think one day he'd grow up to be an astronaut. He would get to fly those big rockets into the sky and see the stars.]

[Instead he became a soldier before his balls started to drop, and a hitman and muscle as an adult. Whatever little boy that wanted to be an astronaut didn't make it through the war. And when he was on the Nehada he even resented that childhood dream, that this was the space he'd looked up at and wondered over. That this is where he wanted to fly those big rockets up to, just more death and misery and disappointment.]

[But as he's outside on the spacewalk, it's different from seeing just from the observation deck. He's standing out on the hull of a big space vessel, staring out at big stretches of nothing. He ignores the promises of rewards and is instead enthralled with pressing his hands against the surface of the ship.]

[He actually laughs to himself.] And here I thought we had lost the space race. [A farmboy from the Balkans had made it off Earth. Hell of a price to pay, but in that moment, it was like a childhood dream come true.]

23/02 ; Lantern wildcard

[Tali got over her wonder and awe of spacewalks fairly early on in life. She got to go on a couple just for fun, to get used to the vacuum and the lack of gravity, to the feeling of her body tenuously holding itself together in a tiny corner of a tiny galaxy in a tiny corner of the universe. A few granules of space dust thrown together into a beating heart that sounds incredibly loud in the silence of space.

Mostly? Spacewalks meant maintenance work, and that's only about as much fun as maintenance work inside. Which is to say, not much.

Funny, then, how she's been nearly giddy about this particular one. She's masked and suited up and ready to go outside the hull, just making sure her safety line's properly attached, when movement out of the corner of her eye makes her look round and catch Niko's eye. She grins, genuinely delighted to see him there.] I wondered if you'd be coming out here.

☄ Lanterns | Observation Deck | Open
[Miller isn't equipped for the spacewalk. Not yet. He's working on it. At least he has his eyes fixed. And with his eyes back to normal, it means he can appreciate that lantern display for what it is. A once in a lifetime experience.]

[The view off the observation deck is incredible, and he's made it there with a couple of minutes to spare. He can see the pilgrim fleet out there, the first lanterns being released, colorful specks in space.]

[The taste of the cake he had reluctantly ate lingers, but he didn't want to feel so heavy for this. Not when most of the time, his mind is hung up on lives and loves lost. He knew it would happen again. So he decided that, for his own good, he would let himself feel okay for at least a night. That he would stand there, enjoy the view, let the experience sink in.]

[It does seem nicer this way. Something a little romantic in it, even. He takes off his glasses, lets them hang from the collar of his uniform. It is nice having those good eyes again. Great way to celebrate that.]

[He says to the person next to him without turning away-] When I was young, my mother took me to the Nihonmatsu-no chochin matsuri, the lantern festival in Nihonmatsu... [He always liked the train ride. Has been fond of the sound of trains since, associating them with good times.] Just seeing this really makes me want Soba. [Huh. Odd little Pavlovian reaction kicking in there. It makes his brow knit up. At least the reminder he's given is a good one.]

[ Lara looks up when he speaks, listens attentively. A small smile curls up the corner of her lips, the tight feeling in her chest loosening a little at the warmth of the shared memory. Roth's voice in the back of her mind, See there, girl, not everything's so bleak.]

Whenever my father and I traveled, it was always to digs out in the middle of some jungle. I've never seen anything like this before. It's beautiful.

[Space Walk]

Walking in space? Walking in space.

This is something she's dreamed about before on those nights where she'd fallen asleep with From the Earth to the Moon open on her chest. Floating through billions of stars, weightless and without a single worry. Just vast beauty.

It's a little different than her young self had imagined-- the suit was fairly necessary, and a little tricky to get on at first; oxygen lines had to be secured and double-checked; same with the tethers. But once she's out there...

Elizabeth holds tightly to the tether, but floats a few yards away from the hull of the ship, just looking around. Nothing above or below her, she's just suspended and weightless among pitch black endless space and bright stars. She should be paying attention to the lesson, it's true... but just a few little flips couldn't hurt.


[Treats 'n Sweets]

Arriving during the rush isn't a particularly good idea, but Elizabeth hadn't planned it that way. So many of her fellow crew members are around that she just snags the first thing that looks tasty and retreats to find a place to sit and eat. The little cheesecakes seem just right for what she's craving, and she happily consumes one before wondering if she should get a third or fourth. They could all disappear quickly, they're so good.

She weaves through the crowd, positively glowing as she does, using any excuse to put her hand on a shoulder or arm of somebody she knows as she says hello or tries to slip past them. Not in an overt way, she's just feeling... happy. And like she's bursting with emotion. The last time she'd felt like this, she'd ended up with her head in trash can while Ivan tried to preserve her air of feminine grace and mystery.


[Lanterns in the Black - A]

When the announcement is made regarding the lanterns, Elizabeth is so glad she opted to learn how to space-walk. This sounds like it's going to be one of the more beautiful things she's ever experienced.

She keeps to the hull and the tethers this time, and watches as the pilgrim fleet releases their lanterns. That's their cue to let the Moira's lanterns go, and Elizabeth lifts and pushes hers out into space. It hovers and drifts away, Elizabeth leaning away from the hull and holding onto her tether to watch it go. The space around them is full of these softly glowing beacons, people lost and now drifting, even symbolically, through space on an endless journey.

Even though he isn't technically gone, even though he's somewhere far away hopefully happy and in love with Anna, Elizabeth watches the lantern as though she's letting go of Booker again-- letting go of what her life had been before she'd arrived nearly six months ago. This is where she is now, this is her starting over again, and maybe this time it'll stick.

She blinks when something obscures her watching the lantern drift away. Her tears are floating in her helmet, and she has to laugh at how ridiculous that is.

When the little lantern appears in her box, Elizabeth is thrilled by how useful and clever it is. She brings it to the library and lets it hover on her desk, walks around the halls with it hovering in her hands, and sets it up next to her bed. She loves this little lantern.

Walking in space.~

Overseeing Dendarii recruits on their first spacewalks was a very different experience than accompanying civilians. Nerves there were, and misconceptions, and it would have been nice to start with zero-G training before turning them as loose as their tethers permitted, but it was all worth it to see their faces when it really sunk in where they were right now.

Elizabeth, for example -- all porcelain beauty in the pale light, wonder and excitement and joy. And on the verge of doing something potentially unwise -- but that's what the tether's for. Eyes dancing, Bel keeps quiet as she tests what mass and momentum might do for her.

   Spacewalk

Tex has always had a certain recklessness about her—taking risks and gambling on the outcome has always been in her nature—but there's nothing left to chance as she absorbs the lessons associated with the spacewalk. She figures as part of the ship's teaching crew, she's going to end up being in charge of instructing others in this process later on, and she doesn't want to be responsible for some major error down the road. So she pays special attention to the safety protocols—how to don the suit, how to hook up the oxygen, how to tether herself. When she's partnered with others for their forays onto the hull, she's sure to keep these matters in mind for them, as well.

And in the days following the initial lesson, Tex starts testing the limits of the equipment. After all, you need to know the proper procedures before you know where the rules can be bent.

   Sweets

Tex is a later arrival after the notice goes out on the crew's MIDs. Everyone seems loosened up and happy, but Tex doesn't think much of it as she approaches the dessert table. She picks up a sample of the cheesecake, taking a bite, then pausing to read the sign in front of it. She had no idea she was ingesting something mind-altering; can an AI be affected by a mind-altering substance? She pauses and finishes her second bite before dropping the rest of her sample in the trash. She doesn't feel any different. She hasn't had occasion to wander down to the bar in her off time yet, but she supposes this treat wouldn't affect her any differently than a shot or two at the end of the day would. She's not going to willingly eat any more of this stuff, but she's going to enjoy the potential afforded to her by it.

So she's not going to be a wallflower. It's time to mingle.

   Lanterns

What is life after death? Tex considers it in an abstract manner after she learns about the purpose of the lanterns, but she doesn't dwell. She's been given a second chance here, and though she doesn't know why, she knows she ought to make the most of it. She thinks on it long enough to release a lantern into space in honor of her own presence here, and that's all. When she returns to the Moira, she removes her helmet, pushing a hand through her hair, and gazes absently for a moment. That's all it deserves. Her eyes focus—someone nearby has been watching her have this moment, and she frowns. "It's just a symbol," she mutters.

When Ocelot saw the way the food was labeled he decided not to partake. Instead, he decides to hang around the bar area and enjoy a drink. At least those aren't drugged. He thinks. Besides, he would prefer to spend his time in a reasonably sound state of mind, since he doesn't really trust anything going on here yet. Call him naturally paranoid.

Since he isn't dressed in his crew uniform (and never does unless he's on duty), he sort of stands out with his cowboy look. The spurs are add a particular touch to it all. Ocelot leans casually against the bar and notices the blond woman as she wanders over.

[ Something is moving around them, ready to give, and Steve can feel it in the days following his release from the medbay, in every inch of him that heals and finally stops aching. There are parts that won't rest, that haven't since he'd woken up from the ice, but those are things he has learned to silently carry. Besides, there are too many others counting on him first, and that is priority over anything he might want. Given their current location (and mysterious destination), it stands to reason that any personal interests he might have had would need to sit a while longer than he would have let them otherwise. And he doesn't know why, but standing on the observation deck as those small specks of light fill the black draw every single one of them to the surface.

Steve stands with his arms crossed in front of one of the glass windows for a long time, attentive of the others around him and those of the crew outside to release lanterns of their own. Celebrating the lives given and taken, those who still breathe... It's a complicated endeavor. There is no such thing as peace in this life, even if that's what he's always fought for, what he stands for, and those he could have found comfort in were long lost to the pull of time. Would it make a difference if he did the same? Would he sleep better knowing he'd finally put it to rest? The debate weighs on him for a good while, recalling each name he knows and the faces of the ones he doesn't.

But it's the wrong time. (There's never a right time for anything, he's learned.)

And by the time he manages to pull himself from the aches of the past, by the time he decides to retreat and aimlessly patrol other areas of the ship, he notices Bruce not too far away. Talking might not do much considering, but there are only a handful of people on the Moira Steve can legitimately trust. That, and Bruce had helped save his life. He approaches him slowly, smile light like nothing has gone wrong since they'd shown up on board. ]

Thinking about going out there? [ Wouldn't that be something. ]

[ Bruce is torn at first, admittedly. The training had been an incredible experience, and he'd be lying if he said he wouldn't like repeating it, but there's more to this ceremony than just going outside, and he knows that. Each of the people in that fleet likely gives a whole different meaning to this, to the act of putting joys, worries, regrets, grief, loss, all of it into these lanterns, opening their hands and just... letting go.

It's a strange and complex thing, letting go. And for a man who's let go of so many things in his past, Bruce carries a whole lot of burdens with him.

He doesn't go watch the lanterns getting released from the observation deck. He does, however, linger somewhere on the ship, pacing aimlessly as he debates on what to do. The thought of just going to his room and letting the event go by crosses his mind, because honestly, he doesn't really feel like he deserves what this ceremony means to convey. The weight he carries is there for a reason, a self-imposed penance, a reminder of what he can do, and what he can't let happen.

Letting go. As if he could ever let go all the lives he's ended, the places he's destroyed. The friends he let get hurt while he sat in safety and waited for the injured to come in, instead of being down there to try and save them in the first place.

His feet work on his own. By the time Steve finds him, he's more or less on the way to the airlocks, and it's only when he stops, looks over at him and opens his mouth to answer that he actually makes a decision. An impulsive and thoughtless one, but a decision nonetheless. ]

I am, actually. I'm headed there right now. [ He smiles faintly, eyes scanning Steve again, like he has every time he's seen him since he came in bloodied into the medbay. ] Are you?

☄ Lanterns In The Black

Danny had never in his entire life seen anything like this, ever. It looked like the sky was lit up with giant bright stars, and with the enormous view of space that the observation deck offered, it was amazing. Real stars glittered in the darkness, lanterns floating above and all around.

He doesn't go out in one the space suits, choosing to sit cross legged on the observation deck, eyes wide and up. He pretends that the lanterns are sent up for the people he's lost, and he feels lighter when it's all over. Danny doesn't even realize he's not alone anymore until he shifts, leaning back slightly.

"Oh, sorry. I didn't hear you sit down."

A nervous smile curves his mouth.

"Do you think they do this a lot? It's beautiful."

Edward isn't sure what to think of the lanterns. There is something inherently beautiful about it, about honoring the lost souls, and it makes him reflect on home, on the battle he and Al left behind, and just how many lives they've lost.

Although he, too, is aware that someone else is on the deck when he steps out, he's so taken by the view that he doesn't immediately acknowledge them. Somehow, the lanterns make him miss home in a new, very visceral sort of way, a way he's been trying to avoid since he arrived. Had to keep his head clear, after all.

"Sorry, should have said something," he shrugs a little, looking over at Danny. "I don't know, maybe it's an annual thing? But how do you measure time in space, you know? It's pretty amazing, huh?"

☄ You're Sweet

Typically, Eggsy's a pretty flirty person, it's just second nature to him. It doesn't make his compliments less genuine, he's just more prone to giving them freely. When he samples the cheesecake and becomes even more flirty, he doesn't really notice. Not even when he's sitting there, picturing all the romantic things he can do, does he even notice.

He looks up when he sees movement, shooting the person a wide grin.

"How're you? Did you try the cheesecake? S'good, yeah?"

Eggsy points towards the captains and the desserts, then focuses back in on the person in front of him.

"You look amazin' tonight."

Clean Up Crew | Anywhere-Any day

[It's not like Peter had much of a work ethic before being told to contribute more; he'd been more of less ignoring this part of his job for the past few weeks. Now with everyone else being told to chip in, he's far less inclined to dust or polish or actually use the broom he's been carting around for the past hour.

He's sat himself on the floor, completely ignoring the mess off to his right, scrolling through unlocked posts on the MID instead of working. He does look up briefly to smile at anyone who passes by, but perhaps he could use some encouragement to get back to work.

Or an excuse to slack off further.]


Space Walk | 17th-20th

[There are unforeseen drawbacks to playing astronaut. He can move very fast in this bulky suit, not without risking his life or someone else's. And he's quickly realized it's not half as cool to be doing this when everyone else is too. Both of which are making him a little grumpy at the poor soul who got stuck with him.

[He's already swiped an armful of sweets from the table by the time he figures out something's up with the treats. By the second trip around he's finally noticed the cards and committed to staying off the sugar for the night. Well, at least until he heads back to Mero. A little relaxation couldn't hurt before bed.

But during the evening he's trying to pawn off the other treats. That seems a little more fun than just putting them back.]

[ this is Ed's first time in space, and needless to say he's a little nervous about it. it doesn't help that the space suit is a tiny bit big on him. he is pretty small, after all, so his movements aren't as fast as some of the others. ]

Hey! I'm trying, okay, this is still pretty weird! [ he flails a little bit in anger, more out of habit, and it actually makes him a little off balance, spinning him sideways a second or two. ] Dammit!

[Wanda loves the observation deck, but it can't compare to the real thing. Pardon her if she's a little distracted looking around at the distant stars - the suit's a little uncomfortable but it was totally worth it.

You might also find her adding her own little experiment: slight wisps of scarlet around the bulky gloves, just enough to prove that yes, it still works even in all this gear. Good to know in case those tethers aren't actually as sturdy as they look...]

II. a spoonful of sugar...
[Does it count as an olive branch when all of the desserts are, for lack of a better word, super suspicious? Wanda was halfway through one of the chocolate cheesecakes when she overheard that it did things and very nearly choked.

It's unfortunately one of those things her powers can't reverse. But if the damage is already done, she might as well try to get some relief from the emotional wringer Emiri put her through, or is that the cake talking? Wanda doesn't remember finishing the rest of it - was she just absently nibbling on it the whole time?

Apparently.

She's eyeing the ice cream now. A few bites couldn't hurt too much, right?]

[Wanda made a beeline for a bright blue lantern, of course. She carefully turns it over in her gloved hands - it's a such a delicate, beautiful thing. Not too far off for a metaphor, she supposes, and this is somehow more comforting than a cold hole in the ground.

She can never let Pietro go, not entirely, but she can celebrate what time they had. Don't mind what looks like tears under the helmet.]

They make it sound so easy.

[ there are plenty of people out on space walks for this event, and somehow a lot of them end up huddled in groups, whether they know one another or not. Ed's so focused on watching their lanterns drift up and away that he doesn't see her tears, but he hears her.

he'd been thinking something similar, after all. he can't shake the memories of his mother, of Nina, of Hughes... all the people he's lost in his short life. ]

Yeah, they do. If only it was that easy, huh? [ he still doesn't look at her, because the sight of all the lanterns nearly takes his breath away. ]

Cordelia is no EVA Specialist, but all Betan Astronomical Survey employees get the same basic training, and she certainly knows what she's doing. She's not one of those people who love hanging out in zero-g, but Cordelia has had a good deal more practice with it than most of the crew of the Moira.

She'll be hanging around the airlock helping people suit up and get their bearings, and if anyone needs a spacewalking buddy Cordelia will be happy to float near the airlock and monitor their teather. Of course, if anyone tries to do something stupid they'll recieve a stern scolding. Cordelia used to be Captain of a ship full of drama queen scientists - she takes absolutely zero bullshit.

Cordelia has ducked out of releasing the lights from the airlock. Let the new trainees have their moment of glory. She's happy to watch from the observation deck, and claps when the Moira's lanterns are released. It's all very beautiful, and a nice change of pace from the stress of the last few weeks.

Link has been slowly switching between his transformation masks; at this point, he's wearing the Zora Mask. It's Mikau's turn. Link can feel the quiet kind of despair at the bottom of his chest that he associates with Mikau's regret. The thought comes to him that Lulu would have liked this. It makes him wonder if Zelda and Navi would have liked it, too.

He blinks when he hears someone speak nearby, the words drawing him out of his thoughts. He doesn't reply straightaway, but when he does, his voice has a strange, almost bubbly quality to it.

"What do you mean?"

[ SPACE WALK 2/16-2/23 ]

[ The ship's Navigator isn't always the most social of the three captains but she is making an effort since this is her training exercise. As crew members arrive they'll see her waiting and already in a space suit of her own. For those unfamiliar with her, Manasseh stands quite tall compared to the average person. As the volunteers put on their suits she takes the time to check on each person in turn to make sure that they're in a calm state if mind and ready for the trip outside the airlock. Occasionally she'll stop to secure a loose tether or demonstrate where they went wrong in putting on their suits.

To those volunteering to help teach due to prior experience in space walking, Mana takes the time to quietly thank them for their assistance. And both before and after each lesson she lingers near the airlock making sure each suit has been properly stowed in case anyone needs to have a word. ]

[ The evening of the 16th, Mana takes her place at the dessert table alongside Curré and Thán to serve the crew their special treats. She'll explain the purpose of the carefully crafted cheesecakes if anyone asks her. Do you dare try to flirt with her after taking a taste? Do so at your own risk. ]

[ On the day of the lantern launch Mana releases a lantern with the others, though returns inside afterward. She spends an hour on the observation deck watching, using her MID to record footage of the Celebration. Though solemn as always there is a light in her eyes as she takes in the view before she has to return to her duties. ]

[Compared to everything that's happened to him so far, this was actually really nice. While he didn't feel up to leaving his room that often, the spread of food and tasty-looking desserts was enough to make anyone stop - especially one hungry young monster.]

[After helping himself to mint chocolate chip ice cream called "Just Relax" and some kind of fruity dessert labeled "Be Honest", Asriel's feeling so much more at peace. It's almost like everything that's had him so wound up during his arrival is temporarily shoved into the back of his mind, and Asriel's content just to lean back in his chair.

Of course, Asriel doesn't think anything off it. He just rocks himself a little, humming to himself and ignoring the bits of chocolate chip stuck in the white fur near his mouth.

Anyone passing by, he'll stop humming and great them with a big grin. Despite looking like he probably should go to bed, he's pretty eager to talk to anyone close enough.]

[Asriel's never seen anything like it in his life, but the sight of floating lanterns still leaves him in awe. Watching colorful lights drift off into a dark sky filled with stars as far as the eye could see. It was real and so much more impressive than a sea of glittery rocks decorating the ceiling of a dark cave.

He still can't believe that this is what's beyond the surface.]

...There sure is a lot of them, huh?

[He's not sure if he means the lanterns or stars.]

[The only thing that keeps Link from grabbing some of the chocolate cakes is that the label says it makes you feel romantic. That's for the grown-ups, he figures, because romance has remained something of a mystery for him. He's never really understood any of the fuss, not even when Ruto was making it, so he leaves those alone. The others, though? He doesn't see any issues with relaxing, or being honest. He likes to think he's pretty honest most of the time, anyway, so he helps himself to the other two.

That relaxing one must really be doing its job, because now that he's eaten it, he's feeling pretty... yeah. He's feeling pretty good. He feels light on his feet and energetic, in ways he hasn't since... well. Since Kokiri Forest, he thinks.

So when someone pipes up as he passes by, he stops mid-step and looks over, smiling. Huh... This person's fuzzy. But his smile doesn't falter in the slightest; he's made friends with people who looked more strange than being fuzzy.] Okay, [Link agrees, and plops himself down into a chair next to him.] Hi! Trish isn't too sure about this, in all honesty. It doesn't feel like the best idea ever to leave the ship with nothing but a suit between her and cold, unfeeling nothingness that will freeze her and make her explode if she's exposed to it.

On the other hand, if something were to go wrong and she doesn't know how to do this, she'll be pretty much fucked, so it's no-brainer really.

Doesn't mean she isn't looking at her suit with a great deal of suspicion. What if she does it wrong? She'll die if she does it wrong! Okay, there's an instructor there who will check that she hasn't but here's the thing, Trish is having a bit of a hard time trusting people who pulled her through time and space just to crew their damn murderbox of a ship.

"Guess it's like ripping off a bandaid. You just do it."

Said to no one in particular, really.

Lanterns (closed to Bruce)

Trish must be crazy, putting on this damn suit again. Here's the thing though... she actually kind of loved it the first time around.

Well, once her mind started screaming in terror because she was in control of absolutely nothing at all, which is not a very comfortable state for Trish at all. Still, she had been surrounded by space on all sides, and while terrifying, it had also been beautiful and oddly peaceful. A little like how you can feel sometimes out on the open sea. There is so much nothing there that the mind has no choice but to empty itself while it makes futile attempts to fit it all in.

She spots Bruce as he comes to join the people suiting up, and she shoots him a wide grin when she manages to catch his eye.

"I wondered if you'd be coming."

It kind of seemed like his sort of thing to her.

It definitely is the sort of thing that would interest him, but anyone who knows about the other guy would wonder if this really is that great of an idea. Whether he wants to or not, there's always a rush of excitement that comes with floating around in space.

He knows he's risking it a little. But he's been out there a couple of times already, and he managed just fine, so he feels pretty confident he can too, now. What doubts he had about going out today were more related to the significance of this ceremony than anything else, but... oh well. Even if the metaphorical 'letting go' that the lanterns mean to convey won't really work for him, it's a nice enough sentiment.

He looks around in search of a suit, joining the group a little belatedly after having run into Steve on the way, then looks over to Trish with a smile when she addresses him.

"I didn't know if I would, but... I figured, why not. Right?"

Making his way over to her, he starts suiting up along with the rest of the group, unable to suppress the feeling of anxious excitement that starts to unfurl in his chest. It's impossible not to feel like that, knowing what he's about to do again.

[He'd been curious about going outside of the ship since he'd first seen the stars. It was an expansive night sky, from what he'd read of, and no number of explanations in the library or from acquaintances could really brush off the weight of what that meant. So, he signed up, set up, and was now in a full spacesuit with running oxygen and ready to go.

Ready until his first few steps, at least. Walking in space, added gravity or not, was not an easy task. He stumbles and slips, arms spreading out to try and catch himself as he slowly bumps into the poor unfortunate soul attempting this training beside him.]

[It never takes much to have Oren indulge in anything. He wasn't one for pick-up lines, but that didn't mean that his well timed smiles and warm way of speaking couldn't be aiming at more intimate moments. He had no shame about indulging himself, sweets included. That's why when the particularly delicious looking cheesecake is labeled to increase happiness and likelihood of romantic endeavors, he wastes no time in snatching up a plate.

He's about halfway into his when he spots someone else, either approaching or passing by, and waves them down to join him if they look the slightest bit lost or confused. If they're completely confident, he'll wave them down quickly instead.]

[Gatherings like this aren't really Ryan's thing. It's been a while, but he's still adjusting to everyone's individual presences, and too many in one place can still be overwhelming-- but this is the only way he'll adjust. Exposure.

He's already eaten some of the ice cream in an effort to mellow himself out, and it seems to have helped. Traces of nervousness linger in his body language, the way he keeps looking around and how he can't keep his hands still, but he's far from the level of anxiety he'd be at otherwise. It's chilled him out enough to meet Oren's invitation with a small grin, and he only hesitates for a second before reaching for the fork.]

I was thinking of giving it a miss, but y'know, if you're endorsing it...

[Ryan gets an odd feeling from him, but that could mean just about anything-- it's not going to stop him from responding.]

Shock and awe, this may be the first decent thing that any of the captains here has done. Snake might have initially been hesitant about the idea of learning how to do a space walk -- he's no astronaut, after all. But that uncertainty had soon shifted to curiosity. The captains may not be good at much, but they are familiar with space, and if they're offering a chance to show their crew how to exist within this environment, then it would be stupid not to take them up on it.

Who knows what sort of dangerous situations the Moira might encounter in the future? They'd only barely gotten away from Emiri in one piece. So with that in mind, Snake wants to learn as much as he can about how to handle the spacefaring life.

Which is how he ends up attending the lessons, following along with every instruction with a quiet kind of obedience that's instilled into any good soldier. (If he ends up making a few off-color comments, he can blame that on officially being too old of all of this.) By the end of the course, he's feeling fairly confident, but that doesn't stop his stomach from flipping around on itself when they reach the final day of the class and have to do it for real.

Everyone's busy suiting themselves up. It's a little more complicated than putting his sneaking suit on, but all the same, Snake manages to get every strap and dial in its right place. When he spots someone else who's struggling, he steps over and tilts his head to one side.

"Need some help with that?" The last thing they need is for someone to end up suffocating out there because their suit wasn't put on correctly.

[Drew was so overly excited for the concept of a space walk that he didn't ever stop and actually consider the schematics of it- for one, donning a space suit was an incredibly difficult and unnecessary process. Especially with the tethering and everything, he'd done well in the lessons and actually paid attention in the best way that he could which meant, well, not particularly well.

But here he was, trying to wrestle on a space suit so that he could go waddling along the hull and it was impossible for him. Drew could barely get himself dressed in something that wasn't a shirt and jeans. He gets his legs in and promptly sits down with a huff, growling at the suit.] I've done bondage easier than this shit...

b - You are made of sugar, milk and molasses So, little darlin', you attract all the bees;

[Drew was a fan of sweets the same way he was a fan of eating in general. He was made aware that each of the treats had certain special effects to them but he was mostly under the impression that this was the norm for space- which is exactly why he didn't stop long enough to actually find out what these mythical effects were.

Already he has a plate with a helping of all three of the deserts on it, not quite piled high but enough to satisfy the werewolf as he makes his way to a table with people at it, plopping himself down armed with a fork as he starts to dig in, not quite noticing the way the puddings were affecting people around him.]

[ Much in the same boat—so to speak—Hawke had been way too excited to leap out the doors into space. After being barred from helping on the most recent mission, he's itching to get into something.

Even if that something is putting on a weird ass suit and waddling around like a fat duck. But, he's used to weird attire and strapping himself into things. So, eventually he gets the hang of it. (Except probably not??? He tried.)

He's passing by when he catches that remark and snickers to himself. ]

[Eric came down to the Mess Hall the same as anyone else when the announcement was made. Unlike most though, he methodically read each of the desserts qualities before he took any. He was playing it safe though, taking a scoop of Be Honest because in his head he figured it would change nothing- after all Eric prided himself on the fact that he was honest with not just himself but those around him, it was one of the vital skills of his work. He was already happily sampling it when he sat down amongst his fellow crew members.

It might be interesting to note, however, that he had one of those special little cheesecakes on the edge of his plate, completely untouched. The You're Sweet was probably the most tempting of the puddings but also the one with the most potential danger- it was the one thing he found himself dubious of in the otherwise good natured evening. Maybe you should help him figure out if he wants it or not.]

b - You may find yourself in the dead of night, lost somewhere up in the great big beautiful sky;

[When they're told that the lantern ceremony was going to happen Eric knew fine well that he wanted to observe it from afar. You would never catch him attiring himself in a space suit and making his way out into the vast nothingness of space- there was too much danger involved, too much leaving things into the hands of others.

That didn't mean he couldn't enjoy it though. His eyesight may not be perfect but his knowledge of witchcraft made up for that. An hour before the event starts he makes his way to the observation deck armed with his work bag. He clears a small space and starts working, making his way over to the window of the observation deck with a mortar and pestle full of a strange paste. He uses the paste firstly to draw a circle on the glass and then mark out small symbols around it, chanting all the while. When he's done he places a small pyramid of quartz on the floor directly under the circle.

When the time comes for the lanterns to be viewed, the window will single in on the Moira's crew, giving a view as if taken from their own eyes. He might not have been able to get out there to watch- but he wasn't missing out on the opportunity to see.]

[Peter's been running all over the ship all night, finding different places to watch from and different people to annoy while they all wait for the show. He comes skittering through the observation deck just in time to watch Eric's little ritual and plops himself down just off to the right to watch him complete it.]

[Link has decided to set up his training area in the rec room. It seems like the best place to him. He had to go and fetch adult-sized weaponry from the armory, though. He'd be willing to share his own bow and arrows, but... There are mostly grown-ups on this ship, and the ones he has now are too small for them. All of the weapons he'd used to save Hyrule are still there -- or, maybe, it's more appropriate to say that they've never left. The Fairy Bow is still tucked away inside the Forest Temple under the care of the Poe Sisters, the Master Sword still asleep within the Temple of Time. So... Weapons for grown-ups aren't really anything he has with him.

He tries to set up an archery range like the Gerudo had in Hyrule, but instead of proper targets, he has... boxes. He managed to dredge up some wooden ones from some storage closet somewhere. (He's sure that as long as he puts them back, no one will mind.) Big X's have been marked on them roughly in the center with a sad, dying black marker, and Link has spread them out across his chosen space. The adult-sized bows and quivers of arrows are lying on top of another wooden box, set up opposite of the targets. His own child-sized shortbow leans up against the side of the box next to its own quiver. This may not perfect, but... Link thinks he can be proud of it.

So, behold, standing in front of this scene: a ten-year-old boy, short even for his age, dressed in his required uniform (without his usual hat, even), but with a sword nearly as long as he is tall hanging in its scabbard, resting over his back underneath a white shield with the image of a screaming face blazoned across its reflective surface.

If anyone approaches, or if he notices anyone staring, he'll give them a nod and a small, but friendly smile.] Hi. Are you here to practice archery?

[Initially, Link doesn't know what to do with himself when the captains give them time off. His first reaction is to keep working, anyway, because he just... He doesn't like having free time. Isn't used to it, any more. But, once the explanation comes, he can't help but feel like this festival of lights... It's -- It's a good idea. It's the kind of gesture he can really appreciate. Thoughts about these things float through his mind already as it is, and this... It's almost like every lantern is a physical thought, floating out amongst the stars. It's like they're becoming stars, instead of sitting so heavily on his shoulders. It's a strange feeling. That doesn't mean it's a bad one, but... He knows even less what to do with this than he does with the free time.

It's just... He's been trying hard not to think so hard about Termina. He's felt bad about it, because it's not like he wants to forget about it. But if he lets himself think about it, then he'll start feeling that weight. The weight of all the people who were depending on him, all of their hopes and dreams and fears, the weight of that moon bearing down over the world -- There's nothing he can do about it now. Not... Not until he can return. He doesn't know what will be there waiting for him when he does. But... Getting back is -- It's something he can focus on. Help the Moira reach her destination. Help the crew with whatever they need help with. These are things he can do.

... still... Still, he feels like he's... let everyone down. That feeling never goes away, even if he doesn't think about it. He always feels conscious of the masks in his bag, as if he can feel their weight, even though he can't, not with the way his bag is magicked. He hasn't dared to try on the transformation masks since he arrived here. But, looking out at the lanterns, and feeling the way that it feels... to see them, to feel like his thoughts are being made real and cast out into space... He wants to share that. He wants to share it with them. He knows the souls inside the masks aren't entirely there, knows they lend him their forms, their strength, and their knowledge, but... He feels like he owes them this kind of release, even if he can't... save Termina, save their people, the way they asked him to.

If an onlooker is paying attention to the little corner Link secured for himself, they'll see him staring out at the lanterns for long, several minutes. But, then, Link reaches into his bag. He draws out a mask, round and wooden with drooping yellow eyes. He simply looks at it for a moment, but then turns it over in his hands and raises it to his face. There's an odd crunching noise, and Link starts to gasp as though in pain. His body is enveloped in a flash of white light, and then, when it fades...

There's a small creature standing where Link had been, just seconds ago. It's almost half of Link's height, and seems to be made out of wood. Its face is identical to that of the mask. But it has Link's blonde bangs, and it's wearing the green clothes he'd had. And... It doesn't seem to be bothered by anything that just happened at all. It shakes its head a little, but then starts to waddle towards the windows, joints creaking.]

[The display definitely caught the attention of this skeleton, who's been mostly trying to stay busy since his ugly discovery the day before. This has clearly been set up to practice combat, and that does sound like fun! If there's one thing he's been slacking on, it's that. There aren't a lot of places that seemed safe to cast that much magic, but now here he is, stumbling onto a place specifically made for fighting.]

[Zam’s already sampled each of the treats before he hears the chatter about the associated mind-altering effects, but by that time, he really can’t bring himself to care. He feels more happy and at-ease than he has in months, to the point where it’s almost hard to remember why he ever would have felt unhappy or anxious in the first place.

He’s also finding it increasingly difficult to keep his mouth shut. He just feels so kriffing affectionate and trusting of everyone that thoughts of discretion or dishonesty don’t even enter his mind.

No matter who you are or what kind of relationship you have with Zam, he’ll wave you over to where he’s sitting with a smile.]

[It’s been awhile since Zam’s seen space as beautiful. Coming from the place they do, space has always been just a place-between-places, the Big Isn’t that filled the window for a time while you waited to arrive somewhere more interesting. Life on the Moira hasn’t changed that.

The lanterns are new though and for at least a little while, the novelty confuses itself with beauty. Zam watches the colorful lights drift through the void, content to enjoy the spectacle and not to think too deeply about the symbolism behind it.

He doesn't say anything, but neither does he seem closed off or averse to being approached...]

Frisk is still fairly ruffled by the events earlier last week, but there is no way that they're gonna miss out on an opportunity to actually walk out in space! They show up as early as possible, and listen very attentively to the safety talk before hand. Once it comes time to suit up, however...they have a bit of trouble getting their helmet on. They're sure they grabbed the right one, but it just won't click in properly.

B: A family tradition

They hadn't stuck around to hear about what those little labels by the sweets had meant, but it doesn't take long for Frisk to realize what the effects are. But by that time the spell or drug or whatever it is has gotten it's hold quite firmly around Frisk's head, and now they are...lying down. Not in the middle of everything, but they're blocking a decent bit of the hall, spread-eagle and smiling up at the ceiling with a sleepy, somewhat dazed look. If they see someone pass by they lift an arm to wave for a moment, partially greeting and partially beckoning.

"You wanna feel like garbage?"

Frisk hadn't felt up to much this last week. Mourning and hurting and confused, they had retreated to their room for the most part, only really coming out for kitchen duty and making a token effort to help the other morale officers. But this morning Papyrus had come for them, and they never could refuse his so-earnest requests.

Dressed and keeping close to their friend, they blink at the lanterns with a vaguely renewed interest. "These are all for...people that have gone away?"

Most of the people in the room are either sitting down or walking around. The fact that there's someone -- one of the other kids on the ship -- lying on the floor over here... It piques Link's attention. He can't help but gravitate over, curiousity playing out freely on his face.

That curiousity doesn't fade at their question. Maybe a little confusion mingles in, but not much. "Garbage?" he echoes.

A. Spacewalk
Tron couldn't resist the offer to take the extra training, the opportunity to see something new in this world. He floated outside the hull, staring in awe at the stars circling around the ship. There were several others on the team, some closer, some further away. "Incredible," he murmured, unsure of who could hear him through the comms.

B. Treats 'n Sweets
While Tron had no need to eat User food, he occasionally found it interesting to sample what was provided. The little treats looked intriguing, and he assumed that the listed effects would not affect him as they would the organic beings aboard the ship. He tried the frozen treat, smooth and melting in his mouth, then ate one of the dark chocolate cakes. He held a second chocolate treat in his hand as he wandered the mess hall, his movements slower and less precise than usual.

Finally, he sat at one of the tables, an absent smile on his face as he watched everyone pass by. He hadn't felt this... good in some time.

Peter had snagged a seat nearby once he saw Tron come in, elbows on the table and a noticeable lack of sweets in front of him. "Roomie," he greeted, eyebrows raised. "You been dipping into the spread? You read the notes, right?"

[ He could say that the days had been long and grueling, but they really haven't been. It's a change of pace after all that he's been through lately—that, in and of itself, is fairly strange. But, he's really not complaining. That he doesn't have loads of people depending on him right now is a weight off of his shoulders. Just... the people in the medbay and, well, he's doing what he can even if he finds it a little boring.

But, that's all set aside for the night, because apparently there's more on the menu for the evening.

After consuming some minty ice cream—he doesn't think he's had anything quite like it before; it's delicious!—he's feeling looser than he has in years. Maker, he can't remember the last time he felt no worries weighing him down. It's liberating in a way and he wants to cling to it. Which means he's working on his second helping.

Giving a lazy sort of smile to Fenris, he holds up the spoon in a bid to offer it to him. ]

Do you want some? It's quite good.

[ Except, he's Hawke, so... at the last second the spoon detours back into his own mouth and he grins like a wicked mabari who got the last bone. ]

[...He probably should have checked the placard before he stole the dessert, really. After he's eaten it is a little too late, and although it looked interesting and it tasted rather good... well, Loki doesn't look pleased to realise he's eaten one of the honesty desserts. Whoops.

Time to hope the effects aren't that strong, and that no-one asks any inconvenient questions. He's willing to distract people from asking them any way possible, though... including flirting, although he hasn't eaten the cheesecake yet, so it's all pure Loki. Just a little more honest than usual, that's all.]

Lanterns

[He hadn't intended to come to see them, but now he's here... well, he's pretty close to the railing, looking up. He looks pensive, watching them- at least until he remembers he's in public and he isn't meant to look like that, forcing a much more blandly bored expression as he makes himself turn away.

Later, when the observation deck's cleared a little, someone might catch Loki making a little green light, and tossing it through the screen. It's harmless, no more than a small flickering glow that drifts off in the same direction as the lanterns from earlier, but he watches it go with a frown anyway.]

[He's not the only one who didn't read the labels and probably should have. Wanda went for the little chocolate cakes (whatever's next to them looked way too weird and mint's not her favorite) and it's only halfway in that she hears what it does. Cue some probably comical coughing and sputtering. What kind of monster spikes the dessert?

To be fair, they could probably all use some of the ice cream after the month they've had, but there is no excuse for doing that to chocolate. She slinks over to Loki like a wet cat - it hasn't hit her quite yet. Grumpy is still well within Wanda's emotional range.]

I think they are laughing at us. Or they will later.
