move & lull
"Sometimes, the thing that brings us together also pulls us apart. "

The beginning of the month was a whirlwind of confusion—for both seasoned and new members of the crew. Link’d Inc’s unsavory methods for obtaining information were revealed, the company’s front runner was murdered and planted on the ship, and with the help of Benjamin Link, the crew was able to free the kidnapped children and unlock the ship so that the Moira could get as far away as possible. It was a mess, but after the refugees were taken to a nearby by planet to start over, things have finally begun to settle down. The ship also has more crew than it’s ever had, and that can only mean one thing: more work. An unfortunate side effect of having so many bodies in one place, everyone is being asked to contribute; the captains implore everyone to chip in and do their share. Clean up after yourselves, don’t miss your shifts, and give fellow crew members a hand with their tasks if they can’t get them done on time.
☄ SPACEWALK ( 02.16 - 02.23 )
Eventually, Manasseh comes to the crew with a training opportunity. The captains are well aware that not everyone on board have learned essential skills for surviving and working in space. To remedy that, she has offered to take a week to train groups in the skill of performing space walks on the hull. Those who already have experience are welcomed as assistant instructors. Those willing will learn how to safely don a spacesuit and secure oxygen lines and tethers—for both themselves and others. All skills that will come in handy in case there is a need for emergency repairs, or if the crew encounters a low-atmosphere environment they wish to explore. Mysteriously, there is also a promise of something interesting on the horizon for those willing to learn.
☄ TREATS N' SWEETS ( 02.16 - EVENING )
As a way of extending an olive branch to the crew, the captains have cleared out the kitchen and mess hall early in the afternoon. Later that evening, the crew is asked to come down - via their MIDs - as the captains have a surprise for them. The tables are lined with finger foods, sandwiches, pretzels and chips, but the table in the very back is where the captains are lingering. They’ve made desserts for the crew, but they aren’t just any typical sweet concoction. They are each unique, and there are small, hand-written signs in front of each:

JUST RELAX: Mint chocolate chip ice cream scooped out into bowls and is the most sweet of the three. The first bite does little to the person eating it, but each subsequent taste results in an increasingly relaxed state. The more that is consumed, the more mellow the person becomes.
BE HONEST: A delicate concoction of science and the culinary arts, this dessert is refreshing and semi-sweet. The fruity flavors burst in your mouth, loosening your tongue, and result in a brief period of honesty. The reactions vary from person to person—anywhere from being more blunt than normal to answering any question that is asked without a filter. The effects wear off after an hour.
YOU'RE SWEET: A selection of small chocolate cheesecakes offer something rich and decadent to enjoy. Each one brings something a little different in terms of flavor, the taste lingering for some time after you’re done. Some make you feel indulgent, some make you feel romantic; this makes you feel both. Those that sample this dessert will feel lighter, happier, and more likely to indulge in romantic endeavors. The effects last for only one night, dissipating after a good night’s sleep. Those that do not require sleep will suffer the effects for two days.
☄ LANTERNS IN THE BLACK ( 02.23 )
The day starts out differently than most. The captains send a message saying that everyone has been granted light duty for the day, and once they finish their necessary chores, they are given the remainder of it to themselves. Around midday, an announcement will be made. The pilgrim fleet of Librae Prime will be performing their yearly Celebration of Life. They are on their way to a system decades away, and each year, they celebrate the lives gained and lost within their ranks by releasing a multitude of brightly colored lanterns out into space. The Pilgrims make a habit of inviting ships within range to participate as it is a joyful event for them.

The entire crew is welcome to watch from the observation deck, the lights dimmed so the view can be properly appreciated, but those members of the crew who have participated in the space walk lessons or have previous experience have a special opportunity all their own. Manasseh invites them to the airlock with a supply of flying lanterns and an offer to put their new-found skills to use by releasing the Moira’s own lanterns. The morning after the flight of the lanterns a special surprise will await everyone in their mailboxes. A small lantern sits waiting for each member of the crew. It casts a soft light comparable to a simple nightlight and will hover in a stationary position when activated.

Are you saying you want to set them on fire in space?

[Because that sounds dangerous and stupid and exactly the kind of thing Peter is interested in.]
knaval: (no-one waving)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-04 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean... fire doesn't work in space, but we could totally eject it out. Just get a stick and woompf!

[he's always wanted to fire stuff out of an airlock...]
takeitslow: ([Goodtime])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-05 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[What do you mean fire doesn't work in space? Guess who never pays attention to science?]

Dude, yes. Can we do that? We're doing that.
knaval: (they gonna rip up your heads)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-05 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Told you it was a good idea, Tailgate. [he says, mostly to himself.] Alright! You got a broom? Or a poking stick around? The whole idea is not touching it.

takeitslow: ([Relaxed])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-07 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Who?

[But he doesn't stick around to hear, he's gone within a breath and back again holding a broom.]

Check. Should I do the honors? I think you might break it with those hands.
knaval: (receding)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-07 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Neverm--oh.

[he WAS going to say "never mind" but suddenly peter blinks in and out of existence??

riptide decides he doesn't care enough to question this.]

Think you might have to.

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-08 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He's a little disappointed at the non-reaction but he shrugs and starts sweeping.]

Rodger that. You know where the closet place to blast this out is?
knaval: (so deep inside yet)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-08 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Lemme juuuust---

[he pokes his mid a few times then points ahead down the corridor.]

Down there.
takeitslow: ([Side])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-09 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Cool. [He pauses.] Um. Want me to zip on ahead?
knaval: (*each little slug here)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-09 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It was actually really cool the first time you did it, so yes. I totally want to see that again.
takeitslow: ([Speak])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-10 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He preens a little.]

At your command. I'd say try to keep up, but.

[He laughs. And then he's zipping off again, taking the mess with him.]
knaval: (no-one to see on the quay)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-11 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't?

[by the time he's finished, peter is gone. riptide rolls his eyes and starts clomping down the hall. slowly.]

Hey, do me a favour and don't go under my feet? Stepping on you would kinda suck.
takeitslow: ([Goodtime])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-12 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Peter actually backs up, walking for a moment so he can speak.]

Dude, no offense but you're pretty slow. I'm not going to get crushed by you.
knaval: (wish i didn't turn it in)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-12 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! I'm going slow to make it easier for you!

[or... harder? damn, riptide has no idea how whatever peter is doing works.]
takeitslow: ([Smug])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-14 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Friendly tip when dealing with me; don't do that. I'm not that good with slow.

[He gives Riptide a goading smile.]

I'm way more interested in how fast people can go.
knaval: (we packed up)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-14 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, well, I might have some issues with running around in here. You know what's not fun? Breaking my damn ankle on a corner.

[sorry peter, this particular robot has some safety standards. mainly because he's done that shit before.]

That being said, next time we're on a planet I'll totally race you. On land or water.
takeitslow: ([Goodtime])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-16 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
From running into it? [Peter grimaces.] I used to have that problem.

[Oh the issues of being a new speedster. The first few months of his powers were not a fun time, for him, his mother's doctor bills, or the walls of their house.]

Let's stick to land. Not much of a swimmer. But, hell yeah! I'm always up for a little competition.

knaval: (ticket in my hand)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-17 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I tried out on the wings as well. Almost flung myself into one of the engines. Not fun. Zero-g sucks.

[riptide himself isn't that fast relative to his bipedal size, unfortunately. though, he does turn into a speedboat.]

Alright. My legs are longer than yours, just sayin'.
takeitslow: ([Joke])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-18 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, no. I hear you. No gravity, no speeding for me. But engines? You got to be more careful than that.

[Says the guy who's about to taunt a killer program into breaking his ribs.]

It's not about the size, dude.
knaval: (receding)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-18 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm no physics expert! Stuff happened that I didn't expect. And, also, I wasn't paying attention.

[PETER NO]

I can cover more distance. You've basically already lost.
takeitslow: ([Joy])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-19 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's your problem. You got to pay attention when you're speeding, dude. It's like rule number one.

[PETER YES]

Want to bet on it?
knaval: (leaving behind)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-22 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll bet on it! I don't actually have anything to bet, but I'm betting on it.

[he rolls his shoulders.]

I was built to be quick. Literally!
takeitslow: ([Do])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-23 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. When you lose, we'll figure out a way for you to pay me back.

Cause I'm built for speed too, dude. It's literally my power.
knaval: (they said all)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-03-23 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This will be a battle for the ages. A metaphorical battle of speed.

[riptide is already excited.]
takeitslow: ([Speak])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-03-24 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
You sound like you want an audience.

[Peter's just as amused as excited.]
