Link | body horror? in the second prompt (transformation masks)
[Link has decided to set up his training area in the rec room. It seems like the best place to him. He had to go and fetch adult-sized weaponry from the armory, though. He'd be willing to share his own bow and arrows, but... There are mostly grown-ups on this ship, and the ones he has now are too small for them. All of the weapons he'd used to save Hyrule are still there -- or, maybe, it's more appropriate to say that they've never left. The Fairy Bow is still tucked away inside the Forest Temple under the care of the Poe Sisters, the Master Sword still asleep within the Temple of Time. So... Weapons for grown-ups aren't really anything he has with him.
He tries to set up an archery range like the Gerudo had in Hyrule, but instead of proper targets, he has... boxes. He managed to dredge up some wooden ones from some storage closet somewhere. (He's sure that as long as he puts them back, no one will mind.) Big X's have been marked on them roughly in the center with a sad, dying black marker, and Link has spread them out across his chosen space. The adult-sized bows and quivers of arrows are lying on top of another wooden box, set up opposite of the targets. His own child-sized shortbow leans up against the side of the box next to its own quiver. This may not perfect, but... Link thinks he can be proud of it.
So, behold, standing in front of this scene: a ten-year-old boy, short even for his age, dressed in his required uniform (without his usual hat, even), but with a sword nearly as long as he is tall hanging in its scabbard, resting over his back underneath a white shield with the image of a screaming face blazoned across its reflective surface.
If anyone approaches, or if he notices anyone staring, he'll give them a nod and a small, but friendly smile.] Hi. Are you here to practice archery?
[Initially, Link doesn't know what to do with himself when the captains give them time off. His first reaction is to keep working, anyway, because he just... He doesn't like having free time. Isn't used to it, any more. But, once the explanation comes, he can't help but feel like this festival of lights... It's -- It's a good idea. It's the kind of gesture he can really appreciate. Thoughts about these things float through his mind already as it is, and this... It's almost like every lantern is a physical thought, floating out amongst the stars. It's like they're becoming stars, instead of sitting so heavily on his shoulders. It's a strange feeling. That doesn't mean it's a bad one, but... He knows even less what to do with this than he does with the free time.
It's just... He's been trying hard not to think so hard about Termina. He's felt bad about it, because it's not like he wants to forget about it. But if he lets himself think about it, then he'll start feeling that weight. The weight of all the people who were depending on him, all of their hopes and dreams and fears, the weight of that moon bearing down over the world -- There's nothing he can do about it now. Not... Not until he can return. He doesn't know what will be there waiting for him when he does. But... Getting back is -- It's something he can focus on. Help the Moira reach her destination. Help the crew with whatever they need help with. These are things he can do.
... still... Still, he feels like he's... let everyone down. That feeling never goes away, even if he doesn't think about it. He always feels conscious of the masks in his bag, as if he can feel their weight, even though he can't, not with the way his bag is magicked. He hasn't dared to try on the transformation masks since he arrived here. But, looking out at the lanterns, and feeling the way that it feels... to see them, to feel like his thoughts are being made real and cast out into space... He wants to share that. He wants to share it with them. He knows the souls inside the masks aren't entirely there, knows they lend him their forms, their strength, and their knowledge, but... He feels like he owes them this kind of release, even if he can't... save Termina, save their people, the way they asked him to.
If an onlooker is paying attention to the little corner Link secured for himself, they'll see him staring out at the lanterns for long, several minutes. But, then, Link reaches into his bag. He draws out a mask, round and wooden with drooping yellow eyes. He simply looks at it for a moment, but then turns it over in his hands and raises it to his face. There's an odd crunching noise, and Link starts to gasp as though in pain. His body is enveloped in a flash of white light, and then, when it fades...
There's a small creature standing where Link had been, just seconds ago. It's almost half of Link's height, and seems to be made out of wood. Its face is identical to that of the mask. But it has Link's blonde bangs, and it's wearing the green clothes he'd had. And... It doesn't seem to be bothered by anything that just happened at all. It shakes its head a little, but then starts to waddle towards the windows, joints creaking.]
2/18, rec area (now in the right place erk)
Archery? Why, yes!
[Although from the way he's eyeing those bows, it's apparent he's not sure how to use it.]
I... think so?
no subject
Have you never used a bow before? [he asks. He thinks it's kind of obvious from his expression that he hasn't (... somehow... Link's never seen a skull express emotion other than hostility before), but he figures it's better to ask.] It's my job to show people how.
no subject
These are human weapons, are they not? Where I come from, nearly everyone just uses their magic!
no subject
He nods in answer to the question.] It seems to be hard for most people to use magic on their own. Um, where I'm from. So we end up using things to channel magic through. [He picks up his own bow, tugging out a Light Arrow at the same time.] It's possible to even do it with a bow, if... you've got the right kind of arrows. Well... Like this.
[He takes up a position lined up with one of the targets. He breathes in deep as he draws the bow. He waits long enough for the arrow to charge, yellow light magic honing in on the arrowhead, before he releases. The arrow hurtles through the air, hitting the center of the box's X. The magic carves a glowing streak and bursts when it strikes home, though the box... seems pretty well unharmed by it.]
no subject
Wowie! That's very impressive, human! Will you show me?
no subject
Finally, he nods.] Yeah. [He hasn't ever taught anyone how to do new things with magic before, but he's sure he'll figure out how. Although, there is a snag in this plan.] Um... We should start with normal arrows first, though. I don't have any Light Arrows that are the right size for bows that'll fit you.
[He'll have to figure out some way to make a few. Swap out the arrowheads, maybe...? He only has a quiver's worth of them, though. He doesn't know if it'd be a good idea to use too many of them just for practice. It might be worth talking to the people in the armory to see if they can figure out how to make more of them...]
no subject
[Probably not, unless you want to watch him fire bones at things. But he thinks it's a great idea.
He picks up a bow and inspects it, twanging the string. He's seen these before, but never in person, and human devices were always so interesting.]
no subject
But first, the basics. ... although, it's occurring to him now that no one taught him how to use a bow, either. He just kind of... did it. Trial and error taught him the more complicated things, but he felt like he always kind of knew how to use the bow. It was the same way with a lot of the weapons he knows how to use, actually. That's probably some kind of magic, too. It might even have something to do with the Triforce, for all he knows.]
It's... mostly simple, to start with. [Link shifts so he's standing next to the Stalfos.] But it takes practice. Um... Try drawing the string back. No arrows yet. [He demonstrates, drawing back on the Hero's Bow to show the proper form.]

[Niko hears a sound of pain and goes to look for where it came from. Two years ago? He wouldn't have given half a shit about a random sound of discomfort... well, maybe a slight, barely there one. Mostly if the sound was feminine. Otherwise he would have been disinterested.]
[But he's been crew-minded again long enough that he seeks out the noise, and only makes it over there in time to see what looks like a young tree person. One that sounded as if it was in pain.]
[His chest grows unexpectedly tight, thinking of those soldiers on Macha. Those unfortunate children that never stood a chance, wielding their bows and arrows. And it's at this point he realizes that he's just ran up to this kid and stared.]
Ah....
[Well, he just made everything uncomfortable. He's good at that.]
So.
Pretty... light show?
no subject
He blinks slowly a couple of times after the man speaks. He looks more awkward than sad now. Link nods, then, very decidedly, which looks almost comical with how large his head is compared to his body. It's a miracle he doesn't tip himself over in the process.]
Yeah, [he agrees, his voice coming out high and trilling and woody like it always does when he's in this form.] Like new stars.
no subject
...I don't remember there being a tiny tree person on board. I will be honest. [That would have stuck with him.] I am Niko. You are?
no subject
Oh... I'm not a Deku. Not really. I'm wearing a mask. It's magic... [He hasn't... explained this in a while. Nobody believed him in Clock Town, unless they could already sense that it wasn't his natural shape. But, he thinks that, all things about the Moira considered, he'll probably be believed here.] My name's Link.
no subject
But you're not Neraki, then? [Or deku? Whatever it was Link was saying.] Yeah. Magic. Still ah... still not used to that.
Magic that makes whole people look like trees. Pretty new to me.
no subject
He nods again, and then reaches up for his face. He seems to hook his little wooden fingers around the edge of... something -- there doesn't really seem to be anything there, just tree-face, and then... well. A strange thing happens.
Behold, there's now... a kid with pointy ears standing there instead of a tree kid. And he's got a sword and a shield. Link shakes his head a little to re-orient himself.]
no subject
[But Niko does not have the reaction that he should.]
[Yes, he is awed, because the idea of a mask changing someone so utterly is impressive. But then there's this kid.]
Oh my god, look at your fucking ears. [It comes out of his mouth before he can stop himself, but then he moves on quickly, hoping that Link doesn't react to the swear.] Do you come in big? [He makes a motion near the top of his own head.] I met a guy on my last ship with ears like this. He was my height. Looked kind of similar.
no subject
Uh... ["Do you come in big" is such a confusing question. Enough so that his answer falls out of his mouth before he can catch himself.] I don't think I was that tall when I was... [When he was an adult. That's going to be even harder to explain than the mask, though. And he doesn't really want to talk about it. So he'd better figure out something to say, and fast.]
I'll grow up eventually, [is what he settles on, lamely.]

Uh, yeah, why not.
[Archery. Right, that was a useful skill, and Scott had come here looking for something to do, so why not this.]
I'm Scott and are you the one who's going to teach me?
[Now that he was up next to the kid, he was even more convinced he was his daughter's age, and he was of the mind set that kids needed to be doing kid things. If only because once a person was grown up, they couldn't really go back and make that time up.]
no subject
Link nods once, both in confirmation and in greeting.] I'm Link. It's my job to teach people archery. [... a pause.] How to use other weapons, too. But especially archery.
[He turns towards the box where he has the equipment piled and reaches to pick up one of the adult-sized so he can hand it to Scott. It's a short bow, to match the Hero's Bow, thus making it easier to teach by example.]
no subject
[Scott's a good student, focused when he wants to be, and determined when he puts effort into it. He'll try not to disappoint, and he'll keep at it until he gets it right, but, well, he's not the most serious person. Definitely laid back and he likes to talk.]
So you know a lot about weapons? [He takes the bow, holding it in a position he assumes is right.] It's just that you're pretty young and I don't know how you'd manage all of that with school and playing and everything.
[He reminds himself that it is entirely possible that Link here is actually a couple thousand years old trapped inside a kid's body.]
no subject
I do, [he confirms, though his speech is a bit slow. Not only is he still trying to work out what Scott means, but... He's trying to figure out how to explain this.] I... just kind of figured it out. But, I don't play very much. [It occurs to him as he's saying it just how true that is. The games in Clock Town, he'd played because he needed something to pass the time. The Goron races, because he needed the gold dust for his sword...
When was the last time he played, just for the sake of playing?
... he's going to stop thinking about that.] Here, your feet need to be like this. [Link shifts the way he's standing so that his right side is facing the target, his toes lined up as if making a direct line towards it.] What's school?
no subject
You should play more. All kids should play. Even adults should.
[It helped eliminate stress, and exercise was always good. Kids, though, should play because it was only fair that they get to. Scott adjusts his stance, mimicing Link's movements, only to turn towards him in shock.]
Have you never been to school? Is there no school where you're from?
[Children needed education, too. Stimulus for the mind and all that.]
School is when you go to class and learn about different stuff.
no subject
The best part was playing with other people, though. But, who...?] Do you think people would play, if I asked? [He isn't looking at Scott when he asks, instead fiddling with the string on his bow.
He shakes his head in answer to the questions about school. He's never even seen one before.] I've never been to a "class" before. I learned from the Kokiri, and people I met while traveling, and from my guardian fairy.
no subject
I bet you could get all kinds of people to play with you. Kids, adults, everything in between.
[He leans in, nudging Link's shoulder, smiling lightly at him.]
Put yourself out there, make some friends and play. You got this, man.
[As to school.]
Well, I don't know what they have going on here for school, but I can teach you. Or we can find someone else to teach you, too. And before I shoot this, what do you mean by guardian fairy?
no subject
After a moment, Link nods.] Okay. I'll try it. [He had been uncertain about asking people whether or not they wanted to play with him, because... well, he... He doesn't know, really. He felt bad about the idea, for some reason. But he can set that aside and try, anyway. The worst that can happen is that he'll have to play by himself, right? It's not like that can't be fun, too.
When he starts answering about the guardian fairy, he gets quiet again.] I... have a friend. She's a fairy, and she looked after me.
