[Probably not, unless you want to watch him fire bones at things. But he thinks it's a great idea.
He picks up a bow and inspects it, twanging the string. He's seen these before, but never in person, and human devices were always so interesting.]
no subject
But first, the basics. ... although, it's occurring to him now that no one taught him how to use a bow, either. He just kind of... did it. Trial and error taught him the more complicated things, but he felt like he always kind of knew how to use the bow. It was the same way with a lot of the weapons he knows how to use, actually. That's probably some kind of magic, too. It might even have something to do with the Triforce, for all he knows.]
It's... mostly simple, to start with. [Link shifts so he's standing next to the Stalfos.] But it takes practice. Um... Try drawing the string back. No arrows yet. [He demonstrates, drawing back on the Hero's Bow to show the proper form.]
no subject
[Papyrus studies Link's stance, his movements, and does his best to imitate them. He already feels kind of cool, just standing here with fingers curled around the string, bending the bow's frame just slightly.]
Oh! It won't break if I pull too hard, will it??
[He's a bit concerned about breaking your things.]
no subject
[It's not Link's bow, anyway. He'd probably feel a little bad if it was broken-broken, but... At least it isn't irreplaceable.
He looks over the Stalfos' form for a moment, then nods.] That's good.
[There are a lot of little things that matter about this that Link isn't thinking about, though, because he hasn't taught someone how to do this before. Things like how he's left-handed, and that affects one's pose; things like what he does with his feet when he's shooting, because it comes naturally to him. So... this'll be a learning experience for everybody.
But, for now, Link is easing the string of the Hero's Bow back to its natural position. He walks back over to the equipment box and picks up an arrow to bring over to the Stalfos. He hands it up to him.] I'll show you how to hold the arrow, next.
[He draws one of his own arrows out next, staying where he's standing next to Papyrus so he can show him the position of his fingers.] You see the arrow that's colored different? It's gotta point this way, away from you, so it sticks out. And then you hold it like this. [He nocks the arrow and tilts his arms so he's holding the bow a bit awkwardly, but so that it's easier for Papyrus to see the way his fingers are curled, his pinkie not touching the bow.]
hell yes two snaps for left-handed Link
He takes the arrow and examines it, then takes a good look at what Link is doing and tries his best to imitate it, right down to the somewhat awkward bow-holding. It's not perfect form, but the kid's a good teacher, and he's already starting to get the hang of it.]
Neato! And what a fabulous moment of monster-human diplomacy! Together we shall be unstoppable, the great Papyrus, and...
What's your name?
oh dangit i meant "see the FEATHER that's colored different" up above
Link. [Monster-human diplomacy... There's something about that phrasing. He can't quite put his finger on it at the moment, so he sets it aside for now to focus on the present.
After a second, he glances up at Papyrus.] I'm not a human, though.
it's okay, I knew what you meant!
[Continuing to imitate Link, Papyrus also straightens his arms. Is he aiming correctly? He feels like he is. He's comfortable with ranged attacks, but he's always fought with bones before. He's not entirely sure this arrow is going to obey him, or that he could take it back if his opponent needed him to.
That last remark gets a doubletake of surprise from him.]
Wait, really? You aren't human?? But you look just like all the humans I've met!

[... or so he was told. Link hasn't ever heard any of the gods himself, though. The Goddess of Time has made it clear that she's helping him, but she's never spoken to him.
...
Can the gods of Hyrule even reach him now, where he is? Now, there's a new depressing thought.]
no subject
[Yes, that must be the reason.
They stand side by side, arrows at the ready, but Papyrus has been thoroughly distracted from what they're supposed to be doing.]
What kind of things do they say?
no subject
[And that is something he doesn't want to explain. So, he'll change topics now.]
So... Once you've got the arrow nocked, you can pull it the bow back again. And then you aim. [There's a little more to it than that. Posture is important, and the positioning of your feet. Link draws the Hero's Bow back, luckily demonstrating it all even though he isn't thinking to explain it. He squints one eye to make sure he's lined up with the target.]
no subject
Still, he made a mental note to ask about it sometime.]
Oh, right! And now we're ready to let it go?
[He's still doing a passing imitation of what Link's showing him, including the stance and closing one eye. This isn't awfully different from aiming a bone attack. These targets aren't even moving, and even with an unfamiliar weapon in hand, he feels like he has the right idea.]
no subject
Hey, for all he knows, Papyrus is going to be a dead shot. There's no way for him to tell, and he, of all people, knows not to judge someone by the way they look or their lack of experience with something.]
no subject
Oh! Did you see that, hu-- Link? I hit it!
[He trots over to inspect the damage before pulling the arrow back out and waving it around excitedly.]
It really went in deep, too! Another stunning victory for the great Papyrus!
no subject
That's good, [Link agrees. He's approaching the target, too, so he can retrieve his own arrow.] You hit the target on your first try. That means you know the basics. We can practice on aiming now. The fancy stuff comes after that.
[It... feels really good, to teach someone something. Seeing them excited to learn something new. Link is suddenly... glad that this is his job. Yeah. He's happy. That's what this feeling is.]
no subject
[And you thought he was pleased before? He might look like a stalfos, but the personality doesn't match.
He hurries back, grinning even wider somehow.]
What sort of fancy stuff do you do? Flips? More magic?
no subject
Moving targets, [Link supplies, because even though that isn't exactly fancy, more like normal, he figures Papyrus will still get a kick out of it.] And Fire Arrows and Ice Arrows. I don't have them any more, though. But there are other things we can do. Indirect shots. Shooting through narrow spaces. Stuff like that.
no subject
All of that sounds highly impressive! You must have started archery very early to possess such skill!
Which one should we do first??
