That...that's probably been pretty hard for you, huh.
[Probably harder than it was for anyone else on the ship. At least anyone who wasn't directly involved. Ratchet didn't envy the poor kid.]
Hey, can I ask you something? About you and Chara?

[He should be happy. He's got his second chance, and for a while he thought maybe he could make things better. But it seems like everything has been a cycle of violence and hurt.]
What do you want to know?

I thought, you know from what Sans told me....I thought humans and the monsters didn't live together in your world.
[Or that they'd had a violent war, and mostly existed divided is the more specific thought, but he wasn't going to say that.]
But you and Chara did.

They don't, usually. Monsters and humans are separated by a barrier - humans live on the surface world, while monsters live under a mountain.
[Asriel's smile fades as he thinks about Chara. How they arrived, how they ended up being a part of his family.]
There's a legend that if you wander too far into those mountains, you don't come back. Chara climbed the mountain... and then they fell, and ended up where we were.

So your people cared for them. Even though they're a human? That was really nice of them.
[And he imagines it couldn't have been a universally popular choice. Not after what Sans had told him.]
