Normally Dorian has eyes on the back of his head, but perhaps he's feeling a little less cautious than normal now that he's not being run down by demons or Venatori. So no, there isn't enough time for the mage to dodge, but there is enough time to throw up a barrier...though perhaps it isn't in the best interest of the frisbee. It makes a cracking noise as it hits the barrier and folds right in half.
Whoops...it was either the toy or his face, Dorian chose his face, naturally. And now he has to look into those big, sympathetic dog eyes and explain that the frisbee will fly no more. Crouching down he scoops it up, making a face at the drool and sand, he remains crouched. If he's going to make his plea he might as well be level with the dog.]
It's better to focus on the positive than the negative. It was fun while it lasted, yes?
Re: beach
Ocelot approaches seconds later.]
Sorry about that throw. You alright?
[Though he did see the magic and how it effectively ended the frisbee. It wasn't as though the disc hit a wall. It wouldn't have broken if it had hit a normal surface. It's almost as though the wall hit back. Very interesting.]
Re: beach
[ There was something about the sad dog look that had a tendency to inspire guilt even in the hardest of hearts.
And Dorian had to turn his face away discreetly just to keep a neutral facade.]
Oh no, I'm immune to your so called charms. [Addressing the dog] I've seen enough mabari war hounds to know better.
[Dogs, however, were more persistent than most creatures and even the infallible mage couldn't ignore it for long. It wasn't the most impressive use of his skills, but he could repair things and with more of that unusual light, the bent Frisbee was straightened out.]
There, your flying discus is as good as new.
Re: beach
I appreciate that. Won't need to find another one at the market.
[They're not terribly hard to find, but he's at least spared the walk. DD appreciates it, too. He wags his tail excitedly and bounces from side to side, waiting for Dorian to throw the frisbee.]
Re: beach
It's the least I can do, besides, I don't want him remembering me as the evil mage who ruined his day. Dogs have that kind of memory- probably why they are worshipped in some places...at least where I come from.
[They seemed so intelligent at times...and then there were moments like this where the simplest things pleased them and Dorian had to reconsider.]
If you insist [because if he wagged his tail any more than that he might just burst into flight, so with a flick of the wrist Dorian threw the frisbee] just don't get the wrong idea about me.
Re: beach
Worried people will think you're a nice guy?
Re: beach
I don't trust camaraderie, people smiling at you, buying you drinks, it's unnatural. Not that I hate the notion of being the "good Tevinter."
Re: beach
[Though maybe he's smart to not trust people who are willing to be friendly.]
Re: beach
[So many sharks where he comes from.]
Better the demon you do know than the one you do not. It isn't all bad though, the flattery, the flirting, it's nice.
