Kyoko's question does make Toriel spare her bag a brief glance. "It seemed to be a rather promising book about monsters and humans, but it ended up being rather dull and insipid."

"It's that kind of story, huh." It's always that kind of story. "The ones where some humans triumph over the evil monsters and anybody who turned sides was evil all along... Right?"
Kyoko shakes her head again, like it was just a silly joke. There was a time when she loved those stories, but those days have long since passed. Nothing was ever that clear cut. None of the monsters (no witch) that she'd met were anything like that at all.

"I could amend my displeasure if any of the human characters were enjoyable to read about but- they all seemed very flat." She makes an appropriate flat gesture by closing her two palms together to emphasis her point. "I suppose I could be biased given my perspective, but it felt very predictable. No one acts like this. No one outside of a story."
no subject
"Sure, but... Isn't that why people make up stories like that? If they could be that sorta ideal hero or pull miracles out of a hat or whatever, people wouldn't need stories about them."

"I suppose it is my age speaking, I... have read many stories where it is simply wish fulfillment and grandiose heros saving the day with one last trick up their sleeves. Those stories stick since they are the ones easiest to retell, to continue, but the complexities fade. With time people forget and repeat the cycle. I suppose it is why I want a book that has more to it. Beyond a story where the humans win and the monsters lose. I've certainly lived that already."
