"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |
Kazuhira Miller
CW: Possible violence and scared children.
[The moment Kazuhira realized that the ship was being boarded is the moment that he took to the hallways. Most of what he's armed with has finite ammunition; he knows he'll have to be frugal. Not easy when you're facing down a vengeful horde. That's fine, though. Kazuhira Miller knows all about vengeance. Other people might have had true hope in the negotiations; his hope was that the ship would be fortified.]
[It's not enough, though. He can already tell from the heavy footsteps, the firing.]
[What stalls him up is seeing Link in the hallway.]
[A long time ago, he'd failed a group of children. He'd wanted so badly to give them the opportunities he didn't have. But Eli promised them revenge- and as said, Miller knows all about that. Those children had their own thirst, a drive to punish those that killed their families, a drive that outweighed their need to be children. And all because they were caught in the middle of some other person's war.]
[This kid is already committed to violence. Given a role to play, one he can't escape. Miller knows that, unquestionably. But he's stubborn a stubborn man. These roles can go to hell. For today, anyway. Besides, it's not a great idea to bring a sword to a gunfight.]
Link! Over here. Come with me.

CW: Violence, NPC deaths
[That finite ammunition has hit its limit, and Kaz is in need of finding another gun. One that he's still good at using. Right now, he's not really in a position to.]
[The two of them roll across the floor, through another person's blood as he grabs at the other man's collar. He turns his head, twists away as a fist slams into the floor beside his head, and he does his damndest to try and kick the invader's kneecap off. The motion is fluid, too. The moment he's off Kaz punches him in the throat, hard, making it swell and his face redden as air fails him. The pain alone makes the Cadacun pass out.]
[Good thing the anatomy is mostly the same.]
[But the next thing he knows there's more soldiers coming. And he's still scrambling to get up from the fight he just had on the ground. His coat can block bullets, but he doesn't think it'll do a damn bit of good against these guns.]

CW: Currently N/A
[After everything is said and done, Miller has to take stock. Meticulously searching out every person he knows (every person that's alive, anyway). Though even that stipulation isn't particularly strict; Paz is gone. He can't find her. The woman who has become some gestahlt entity of traitorous bitch and the angel of peace, a weapon made for destruction and a girl who could only really love when she existed as a lie. So much he should have said.]
[But no, his last minutes of seeing her were of him being a pathetic, laughable mess. Broken with a loss he's starting to lose hope he can recover. Then there was Alan. They were just acquaintance, not particularly close, but to his friend? Alan was a creator, a god, a father. He created warriors and he couldn't fight back. Miller had arrived a fraction of a second too late, the warning too slow.]
[This makes his search for people more frantic, and when he finds someone he knows, he'll be approaching them quickly to make sure they're alright.]

That's when he sees Miller coming toward him and his bruised face brightens into a grin. ]
Hey, pal!
no subject
[He's enthusiastic about getting over to him, pulling him into a rough hug and he thumps his back gladly. Good. Fine. This little idiot made it.]
Got worried. I'm glad to see you're in one piece.
You better be, anyway.
[Don't lose any limbs yet, Jim.]
no subject
[ He appreciates it. Buried in Miller's wide chest, he takes a deep breath and lets it out so the man will squeeze him tighter. ]
Practically perfect, don't worry.
no subject
[When in reality Kaz is so damn tired of losing and is just glad one of the few things he has left is still here.]
Good to hear.
[Then he pulls back, hands on his shoulders so he can put the younger man squarely in front of him.] I can't find a couple of people. Still looking.

He looks almost startled when Miller starts rushing towards him.]
Ah.
[That's all he says at first.]
Hello.
[A+ greeting.]

Guess we match, huh?
[Dryly spoken. Still. He checks Liquid over.]
Looks like you're in the clear. [Accidental pun there. He's sure that Liquid already knows, but Kaz needed to say it aloud to himself, especially after losing so many people. It's a cosmic joke that sort of concern is being turned on the man that ordered his death, but here he is, anyway.]
no subject
Guess so. You can probably punch with yours without worrying that it might decide to shatter, though, I'm sure.
[Right, that's what he's worried about. Really, though, he's not sure what to do about the sudden replacement.
It's really frustrating, not being sure about things.]
I don't know, I still feel sort of... crap. But I suppose most of me's alright. Nothing's killed me yet. [It's still weird, losing the part of his arm that he remembers being the only thing left of him.]
Are you alright, then?
no subject
[Hilarious that's a reminder of Liquid's father, another thing that he needs to check on. Right now, though, he's settling on accounting for people.]
And I didn't take any damage. I got real lucky. [He's a good fighter but he knows he's not that good. He has stubbornness in excess, something that makes up for any lack of skill, but usually that doesn't keep him safe. It just keeps him alive.]

[He lowers himself as Deacon did earlier, crouching, wondering who the hell managed to slip past everyone and stay on the ship. Then gestures towards him conspiratorially.]
What do you mean?
no subject
And that means he's losing his goddamn mind.]
Just...someone I thought I knew. Like those moments you see someone out of the corner of your eye and for a split second you're like "Hey, that's So-and-so! Hi, So-and-so! Thrilled to see you!" Only then you turn and look properly and it's totally not who you thought it was at all, barely even looks like them, but they have this one thing that was just close enough to fool you for a second? It was like that.
[No it wasn't. There's no one around at all except for him and Miller.]
no subject
[Oddly Kaz's first inclination is to wonder if Deacon got glass in his brain, but after that faint thought he remembers what Deacon mentioned. Not human, huh. Right. Miller rights himself.]
I didn't see anyone. Let's go have a look around though. With the Ingress acting like this, it's better not to take chances.
[At least Kaz's own intense paranoia is working out to Deacon's benefit in this case. He's willing to give deranged ramblings a chance, having been so prone to them himself.]

In spite of that he is still highly aware of it when other's approach him, craning his neck just enough to see who it is.]
Oh no, no [somehow he still pulled off sassy and playful even though he seemed down in the doldrums] you have to turn right around and march back from whence you came, you're not allowed to see me like this. That's the ground rules.
[Did they have ground rules?]
no subject
Come on. At least let me see.
[He starts to move around him, to get a better look at the damage. The doldrums, he's guessing, is a state far too many of them are in now and he can afford to risk that sassing.]
no subject
[Though really, Dorian was just trying to console himself, and he could hear Kazuhira's attempt to move around him. This was not a man to be dissuaded from his course, Dorian could see that much...and reasonably? How long could he really hide?]
Spitting in the face of my ground rules already? Fine, but I deserve a reward. [As he raises his hands in surrender, though it could also be that he was avoiding touching the other man due to the injuries on his hands. He could take care of those, however, once he finally made it back to his room. A potion would heal his burns flawlessly.
His face, however, was an entirely different matter, and instead of fussing as he well could of he gave in willingly. The glass that seemed to be taking over the ship seemed to be taking over the left side of his face as well. Like vines creeping over his skin from underneath the collar of his robes, along his cheek and temple. It missed his eye, fortunately, but that was only a small comfort.]
I'm dying for an objective opinion- good, bad?
no subject
[He's seen some of his close friends wearing glass for hands, for eyes, watched warriors become fragile. Watched people have to acknowledge their own bodies as foreign entities.]
[Something he's already lived through, and wouldn't wish on anyone.]
[Kazuhira takes Dorian's chin to tip his face away, to look at the damage left by creeping glass and potentially from heated battle, ignoring the scoldings.]
It doesn't look comfortable, but as long as it's not bothering you. [Not appalled by any longshot. Just potently concerning.]

Of course, Master Miller himself doesn't fall into that category. Still, when Snake comes across him on the floor (with an unconscious body next to him) while more Cadacuns run his way, he figures it's safe to assume that he wouldn't mind an extra hand.
There's something surreal in coming to his Master's aid when it had so often been the other way around, but that isn't enough to make Snake hesitate. If anything, this is a way for him to repay Miller for all he'd done for him back in the day.
Snake races over, bandana tails whipping behind him, and reaches down to help Miller up. They'll have better odds of coming out of this in one piece if they fight together. ]
Got any ammo left?
[ There's no time for greetings. Snake is clearly in crisis mode, and he figures that Miller will understand. He's the one who taught him how to handle a situation like this in the first place, after all. ]
no subject
[He's grateful he said something utilitarian instead of tacky. At least his successor has some sense of priority with doling out terrible dialog.
Or so he thinks.]I'm out. [He confirms.]
[He pulls out the baton that Rinzler gave him, though, stepping behind Snake long enough to spark a long lit blade from the thing. (Hell of a good birthday present that is.)]
Going to have to get up close.
no subject
Never one for blades, Snake tilts his head when Miller produces that weapon. It looks like it could do plenty of damage, sure, but that protective urge manifests yet again. ]
I've got another gun. [ He pulls his M9 out of his holster to show to Miller. ] It shoots tranq rounds, but...
[ It's not like Snake has wanted to use lethal force, but the Caducans haven't given him much choice. Miller already knows what he is, much as he might want to call it something else, so at least he doesn't have to bother explaining that. ]
no subject
[But at least he's got his infinite stubbornness to compensate.]
[Kaz takes the gun as well and checks the ammo. The baton also has a stun setting, but he thinks, sadly, he'll have to use the lethal option. He prefers non-lethal himself, but he prefers their survival most of all. The decision isn't all that difficult for him.]
It'll slow them down. That's enough.
[He hates to kill someone incapacitated, too. It's cowardly. But it's safer.] I have two kids hiding in my room. I need to clear keep this floor as clear as I can. [He's been returning to the area when he can, keeping out invaders.]

There's no way to win this. If he is the victor in a fight, it means he's killed someone. Someone who isn't evil. Someone who is just hurting and lashing out. This isn't right. This isn't what he's meant to do.
But he doesn't think he has much of a choice. If he doesn't fight, then he's letting them hurt other people.
When him hears Kazuhira calling out to him, his head whips around. Relief floods Link to see him safe, and he comes running over without so much of a question or second thought.]
no subject
Link, come on.
[He puts his hand on his back to urge him back toward the lift, toward the cabins.]
I need you to do me a favor, okay? Mama's in my room and she's scared. I need you to take care of her. [Simple enough excuse. It'll have to do. Something to keep Link occupied that's not killing people. He won't have this young man face that crisis just yet, not if he can help it.]
no subject
He's glad, now, that he coaxed Saria, Zelda, and Deku into his glass bottles for their protection. He'll have them with him for this.]
Okay. [He doesn't second guess Miller's request, just agrees without hesitation, with all the gravitas of having been handed an important quest.] I can do that.
no subject
[He offers his hand quickly, nodding back towards the corridor.] She's in my room. Come on.
[He doesn't know how to get to the pups in Bucky's or he would give Link those, too. Even if he wants to keep him out of the fighting, there's something charming about the brutal earnestness that Link's ready to face this mission with. As long as it keeps him from having to sink that blade into any of these people. Simple end-goal here.]
