"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |

[He's only half paying attention, looking up and down the hallway hoping to get another glimpse of her. Of Barbara. He doesn't notice Miller searching for something in his pocket.]
no subject
What? [Kaz asks out loud.]
Wait, you're not-
[He vaguely knew Deacon dicked around on the network, made shit up. But none of it had looked serious. When he spoke to Miller? That had felt real. He'd been sure of it. Was this actually what it had said all along?]
You're not a synth.
no subject
[Why is Miller calling him on that lie now? He turns to him in confusion and...
Oh.
Oh, shit.]
Wow, this is the worst timing.
Uh...yeah, I'm not a synth. But I am a compulsive liar so the paper is totally telling the truth. Unless I'm lying about always lying. Shit, I hate paradoxes.
[He chatters away to hide his nervousness.]
no subject
[He wads up the paper and throws it down contemptibly.] So you got people following you, huh? [He's so angry he can't see the similarities, can't make the connections he needs to. It's a fault of his rage. One of the reasons that Ocelot's mild-mannered adopted personality worked for his manipulation. Because it still let him think. Right now, Kaz just wants to bloody this man's nose.]
[But he doesn't. He doesn't because as much as he's been hurting he doesn't want to spend the time in the hold and he doesn't want to fight on a ship filled with glass. It's out of no love of what Deacon has done, but a brutal and rare bout of self-preservation.]
You know what? Save it. [He aggressively points at Deacon as he starts walking off.] I'm sure you'll work things out on your own. Maybe if you change your life story enough they'll forget who they're following.
[That's the point though, isn't it?]
[Well, Kaz sure as hell didn't know who he'd been talking to.]
no subject
He scampers after him, hoping to salvage something.]
I've been doing recon for years. Decades. It's really hard to switch it off, you know? [But that's not why he lies. He's just lucky to have found a calling where lying is useful and he can employ it frequently.]
no subject
You didn't even fucking try! [At least, to his knowledge. He doesn't know that Deacon thought about it. His own anger, broiling so hard he can feel heat coming off the back of his neck, is making it impossible for him to consider.]
And you knew. I trusted you with- fuck. No wonder John never- Damn it.
[He turns and starts to storm off again. If only he could keep a reasonable argument. Instead, he has Ocelot in his head. "What if I'm a spy. Or you." Drawing up Kaz's past sins, throwing his own potential for untrustworthiness back at him to devalue his feelings.]
[But he fucking tried. He tried to finally be the good man, the good friend, that Snake wanted. Needed. And here's Deacon, not giving half a damn as far as he can tell. He turns on his heel again to keep going.]
no subject
He spread his arms, palms out.]
I did. Try, I mean. Although I know you only have my word on that and my word is shit.
But I like you. I didn't want to piss you off. That was never the plan. [Fuck, he's bad at this.] Believe it or not, that was me opening up in the only damn way I know how. [By lying. And dropping in nuggets of critical truths among the lies.]
no subject
[It would be funny if he wasn't so damn angry, just the completely incredulous tone at what was obviously a poor attempt to get to know him.]
Just go, before I really get angry. [Right now there's not enough apologies, not enough explanations. Not while he's this angry.]
no subject
He takes a few steps backwards, increasing the space between them but too uneasy to turn his back. Between his visions and this confrontation, his paranoia has spiked.
A woman's dark voice laughs in his ears. More fucking hallucinations.]
