Hey, look, about that recall code, it might be good for someone on this ship to have it, just in case something ever goes wrong. Not that I expect it to, but, you know, always be prepared. And from everything you said and everything my gut tells me you're someone I can trust to do what's necessary if the time comes, and also trust not to fuck up my memory just for shits and giggles.
[He takes out a scrap of paper and a pencil as he's talking and scribbles on it. Once finished he folds it in half, folds it again, then once more, and hands it to Miller before he can change his mind. "I'm a liar. Sorry." it says.]
You don't need to read it now. In fact, it's probably better you don't. But you're a good guy, Miller, so I want you to know that. [He points at the folded paper.]

[But instead of looking at it, he folds it up one more time before sticking it in his pocket.]
But no. I'm not a good man. I compromised my morals to hunt down the people that hurt me and my men. I just have a few standards. Things I won't do.
Not good. Not by a long-shot. But better than some people.

[Deacon shrugs.]
You don't murder innocents, you care about people other than yourself, and you take responsibility for your crap. It's the post-apocalypse; you'll have to accept that I have messed up standards or something.

I guess that would put things in a different context. In that case, I guess I'm alright.
Thanks for saying so. [He's not had a good perspective of himself in a long time.]
