"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |

Of course, Master Miller himself doesn't fall into that category. Still, when Snake comes across him on the floor (with an unconscious body next to him) while more Cadacuns run his way, he figures it's safe to assume that he wouldn't mind an extra hand.
There's something surreal in coming to his Master's aid when it had so often been the other way around, but that isn't enough to make Snake hesitate. If anything, this is a way for him to repay Miller for all he'd done for him back in the day.
Snake races over, bandana tails whipping behind him, and reaches down to help Miller up. They'll have better odds of coming out of this in one piece if they fight together. ]
Got any ammo left?
[ There's no time for greetings. Snake is clearly in crisis mode, and he figures that Miller will understand. He's the one who taught him how to handle a situation like this in the first place, after all. ]

[He's grateful he said something utilitarian instead of tacky. At least his successor has some sense of priority with doling out terrible dialog.
Or so he thinks.]I'm out. [He confirms.]
[He pulls out the baton that Rinzler gave him, though, stepping behind Snake long enough to spark a long lit blade from the thing. (Hell of a good birthday present that is.)]
Going to have to get up close.

Never one for blades, Snake tilts his head when Miller produces that weapon. It looks like it could do plenty of damage, sure, but that protective urge manifests yet again. ]
I've got another gun. [ He pulls his M9 out of his holster to show to Miller. ] It shoots tranq rounds, but...
[ It's not like Snake has wanted to use lethal force, but the Caducans haven't given him much choice. Miller already knows what he is, much as he might want to call it something else, so at least he doesn't have to bother explaining that. ]

[But at least he's got his infinite stubbornness to compensate.]
[Kaz takes the gun as well and checks the ammo. The baton also has a stun setting, but he thinks, sadly, he'll have to use the lethal option. He prefers non-lethal himself, but he prefers their survival most of all. The decision isn't all that difficult for him.]
It'll slow them down. That's enough.
[He hates to kill someone incapacitated, too. It's cowardly. But it's safer.] I have two kids hiding in my room. I need to clear keep this floor as clear as I can. [He's been returning to the area when he can, keeping out invaders.]

It leaves them in a conundrum, and they haven't had much direction from the captains either. Not that Snake minds taking things into his own hands. He's already tossed a few of these Caducans into the brig.
When Miller explains why he's in this particular area, Snake's quick to nod. ]
I can help you guard it.
[ It's hard to imagine the Caducans would specifically go after kids, but Snake isn't going to make any assumptions either. He keeps a tight hold on his handgun, eyes flicking up and down the hall. ]
Taking kids under your wing, huh? [ He's not surprised. ]

[Link's already condemned to a life without much choice. Well... at least this time he doesn't have to bear the same weight that Solid Snake has.]
[
Liquid probably doesn't care as much.][In a way he's sorry for the display that he knows he has to do. Kazuhira Miller is not a particularly empathetic man when facing oponents, but he can draw up enough to remember how it felt to see his men dying around him. To not terrorize anyone in the way that he'd been burned.]
[The next Cadacun that comes down around the corner gets a tranq shot right in the head. It's a shame to take someone down when they can't fight back. But he doesn't think they'll show a lot of pity when they wake up.]

Miller doesn't hesitate to shoot the M9, even if he might not be familiar with that version of the gun. He doesn't waste the darts in it either, which Snake appreciates. He only has so many.
He stalks over to the downed body, checking to make sure that the Caducan is well and truly out. ] I've been trying to take them to the brig, but it's getting pretty full over there... [ They're running out of space, plain and simple.
When Snake hears movement coming from the other side of the hall, he quickly darts behind cover, hoping he can lure the Caducan close enough to them that he can grab them into a chokehold. The less he has to fire his gun, the better, though his patience is wearing thin. ]
no subject
[He checks the number of darts in it as he moves behind cover, contemplating how to go about this.] Wish it hadn't come to this. [An idle, sad comment as they're getting pressed down. Because he knows what he has to do, and he doesn't want to have to do it in front of Solid.]
[But when one of the men slinking back towards them gets close enough, Kaz lurches out to grab his arm, pulls him back into cover and into a chokehold. He doesn't wait to choke him out, though. Instead immediately he slits his throat. He really wishes it weren't necessary. But it is.]

Snake could have questioned why Miller killed one of them and tranqed the other, but he can already guess. The second one had come too close to them; there would have been a risk that their cover would be blown.
Peering out from behind his hiding spot, Snake listens for any other footsteps, but it's dead quiet in the hallway now. He looks at the two bodies, one still breathing and one not. ]
Where are we gonna put all of them? Living or dead, there's not enough space...
