old but unfamiliar faces
"We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and offered a contract to sign that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. Any questions you might have would be answered in a straightforward manner as well as an explanation about how the Ingress, the thing that has pulled you onto the Moira, is broken and bringing people here unintentionally. This process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand or wrist with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

At first, this month seems no more unusual than the previous one for those who have been aboard the Moira for any amount of time. The crew who had landed on the slaver outpost were rescued, and with everyone aboard, the ship has pushed forward into the darker parts of the Runoff. Anyone arriving through the Ingress follows the same routine—moving from the Ingress room into the Medbay for their physical and contract before being assisted by seasoned crew members and helped to their assigned decks. But all familiar things must eventually come to an end: two final travelers come through the Ingress. The first, and most noticeable difference between them and all the others, is their clothing. Both are dressed in standard Moira uniforms, though they bear the insignia of one sharing the same rank as Captains Cúrre and Thán. After a moment to take in all the people on the platform ahead of them, one of the two latest arrivals approaches one of the Ingress panels and begins to manipulate the controls. The Ingress completely shuts down. Unlike before, however, there isn’t an imbalance felt across the ship; everything remains normal and stable.

Utilizing the computer systems located in the Ingress room, they send out the following message to the crew via the MID:

To all those aboard this vessel: I am Ira Phirun, assigned captain of the Moira. First Mate Egan and I will be commandeering all rights to the ship as soon as word is sent to those currently in charge. Expect a more detailed report as soon as all records and logs in Navigation have been reviewed by myself and the First Mate. All questions will be answered in a timely matter. For now, there will be no interruption of daily routine or reprimand if conduct among ranks is broken. Thanks for your time.

Heading to Navigation, the Captain and First Mate, for seemingly unknown reasons, approach Navigator Manasseh and have her show them all records and logs of the Moira. Those working in Navigation when the Captain and First Mate arrive will see Mana greet them in a professional manner. Oddly, the Captain and First Mate act very familiar with the Navigator. They review all documents, but when they come upon news that the Ploiatos is on board, their mostly friendly demeanor shifts quickly. The Captain issues a sharp order, unintelligible to those who are close enough to overhear parts of their conversation, and without any warning at all, Mana loses consciousness and collapses right there on the bridge. Within minutes of this happening, the ship as a whole falls into a low power state with basic functions only. Mana’s MID alerts Medbay, and without hesitation, Captain Cúrre places her in cryo with strict orders to those who work there not to disturb the unit.

As promised, the Captain and First Mate soon address the crew.

lights down low
The lighting has dimmed in all the rooms and halls, the normally crisp air that is pumped from the vents low, and all machines and tech are running at half-speed. These effects can be found throughout the ship. Water in the showers remain hot for only a few minutes before reverting to cold. Recreational equipment powers off not long after it has been turned on. The sanitation and water filtration systems require an hourly manual reboot, and all unused areas of the ship have no power allotted to them until a crew member steps inside. Even then, most functions are not optimal. It’s as if the Moira has been transformed into a dark house with only a candle flickering on the window sill.

reuse & recycle
The Captain and First Mate are quick to establish that this is a new regime and go about making the ship and its crew more efficient in the wake of their change in course and the low power state of the ship itself. This means they will systematically inspect each occupied barracks room and leave notes for what needs to be disposed of or stowed away. Unlike before, this is no longer a pleasure cruise, and each member of the crew is a guest on board; they will not tolerate useless clutter. Anything seen as unnecessary will be either placed into storage in the Cargo Bay or disposed of through the airlock. This new need for efficiency also extends to the need to conserve resources until they reach their destination. The showers are set to an automatic timer to minimize water waste. Those few minutes of hot water are all a crew member is now given. Meals are smaller, bordering on ration sizes, and luxuries are done away with entirely in order to preserve supplies so that the ship can go longer before needing to dock at a planet.

new jobs, same faces
The Captain and his First Mate, as expressed in their addressing of the Moira, explain that work efficiency is a priority. Applications for a head of the following departments will be accepted for a short period: Navigation, the Tower, Medbay, Defense, the Hold, Sanitation, Ingress work, and the Galley/Mess Hall. (Here.) After reviewing what they receive, one head of department will be chosen and tasked with helping crew find positions relevant to those departments and their own skillsets. They will be allowed to retain any positions that they held before that aren’t ship-functional jobs, but they will have to be done in leisure time. In two weeks time, they’ll be accepting department position applications which will be approved, and all those that do not apply will be assigned in accordance with their initial work application. They will also choose three individuals to act as guards of Ploiatos to ensure that there is a rotation available at all times. Will you choose to follow this new decision and promote yourself into a position of responsibility? Or will you simply wait for a reassignment?

Hanzo approaches, unconcerned of the young man's cybernetic arms.

Then perhaps you can bring to light the specifics of our situation.

[ Milly probably runs into him as he's making his fifth daily caffeine stop. He's vaguely concerned the coffee will be gone forever soon, deemed an 'unnecessary luxury' or some shit. He'll probably die. Best to load up on a year's supply now, right?

The throng of new people doesn't particularly phase him - nothing is quite as alarming as those first few moments exiting the Ingress oneself - so he leans against a nearby wall, coffee in hand, watching people as they pass by. He plays something of a game with himself, seeing if he can guess who's new and who's not.

Then Milly passes, and she's certainly not new, but she's also been frozen solid for quite a while. He lowers his mug, surprised and maybe a little relieved. Not that he'd admit to it. ]

[Normally, Magnus would apologize, as he understands his new upgrades have made him quite...unwieldy. However, the tone this one takes with him is enough to immediately sour his mood and swallow his apology.]

Excuse me, but it appears that you're the one at fault here. You see, it's your responsibility to watch for pedestrians. I don't see any speed limit postings around here, but judging by the fact that you were unable to stop safely and properly, it's only right to assume that you were, indeed, speeding.

If that weren't enough, I could hear you blaring your horn and playing your music in "raucous manner" [Yes, there are air quotes.] so I'll go ahead and add 'disturbing the peace' to the citation I'm about to write you.

76 | overwatch

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-08-02 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
a. arrival
[76 comes out of the Ingress swinging.

Not immediately swinging, but close enough. It takes him a moment to realize that he isn’t in the same place he was just a minute ago, and when he gains his bearings he doesn’t exactly take it well. Survival instincts kick into overdrive, and all he can think is that somehow he’s been captured or compromised. It’s not what he needs to be dealing with, and as he stalks his way (cautiously) towards what he assumes to be an exit, he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Suffice to say, when he’s finally approached (or, really, just happens upon someone else), he reacts very poorly.

If you’re fast, you might be able to catch him (or duck) before he swings a punch or slams you up against the wall. If you’re not, surprise!
]

b. medbay
[Medbay doesn’t go much better. Though it seems he’s grasped what’s going on and isn’t trying to fight anyone who gets near him, he’s not exactly receptive to assistance or particularly cooperative (did he just growl at that person he totally did), and doesn’t seem to want to relinquish any gear for medical assessment purposes. It’s a little awkward to watch (especially the part where he totally growled at that guy, or you, maybe).

But eventually it happens, and the contract is signed, likely because he seems to realize that there’s no real choice in the matter. His face doesn’t need to be visible for it to be clear that he’s not at all pleased by this turn of events, and as soon as he’s able, he’s gathering up his equipment and getting the hell out of dodge.

Hopefully you’re not in his way. If you are, he probably doesn’t care, oops.
]

c. sure is dark in here
[He doesn’t care much for the ship’s current politics, to say the least. They can sort themselves out, and in the meantime, he’ll familiarize himself with every nook and cranny of the ship he can find. 76 isn’t entirely convinced that things won’t take a turn for the worse, so it certainly can’t hurt for him to work out contingency plans. Potential escape routes. Places for getting out of the way if things really go south.

And it doesn’t hurt to memorize the layout, either, even in the dark (perhaps, especially in the dark). For a man of his size, he moves quietly through the halls, though the red glow of his visor will certainly give him away more than noise. 76 is still not convinced that any given thing or person he comes across isn’t a threat.

That’s what the really big gun is for, and it’s pointed cautiously at any sign of movement. Perhaps that is you?
]

d. nomo 024
[None of this is really new to him, technically speaking, except for the whole ‘being in space’ part. Rations? Sure. Barracks? Whatever. A timer on hot water? He’s surprised there’s hot water in the first place. He’s certainly dealt with much worse in the field.

What he doesn’t really want to entertain is roommates, even though it seems inevitable, given the layout of the quarters. He supposes he’ll cross that bridge when he comes to it.

For now, he claims his space, and gets to disassembling his rifle to make sure nothing was tampered with. He'll give cursory acknowledgement to anyone else who enters the room, but it doesn't seem like he's interested in introducing himself. Rude.

He's done it ever since he was little- and it's a form of respect. Considering where they are, he's pretty sure being respectful would be much better than the alternative. He's lost, and maybe if he's polite enough somebody'll be willing to help them out.

[Starscream isn't being that mindful of organics for the most part. He's not purposely looking to step on any because that was kinda gross and people unfortunately get upset over that kind of thing.

What he was trying to do, is find equipment or power sources he can swipe for personal use. With the ship way it is, and the number of Cybertronians around, they were going to have issues.

Speaking of new Cybertronians, Starscream paused at the sight of ... well, he had no idea who it is. Looks Autobot though. Figures. They are everywhere and Starscream found that most annoying.

[He's seen many things. Omnics, giant men in armor, cyborgs, and there is, apparently, out there a talking sentient ape who is a scientist.

This, however, is an incredibly tall robot, speaking without fear, so casually.

Like he is a boy.

[ Ava often finds herself up in the observation deck, gazing at the stars, when she isn't working. It's a calming place to be, a humbling one, and one of the few places she can hide in at night when people are resting. She can attempt to meditate as Obi-Wan is teaching her, or just put on music and look out.

Tonight, she nearly trips over...something in the dim light. A helmet. It has a strange shape, like an animal's head, and she reaches down to pick it up--

And comes face-to-face with a lifeless, severed head. ]

Fuck--!!

[ She jumps back, actually tripping this time and falling on her backside, pushing back and away from the head. ]

Oh my god.

[ She's seen things like this before, she tells herself. But that doesn't stop the cold dread and fear from climbing up her throat. She stares, wide-eyed, unmoving. ]

This is the last face he'd expected to see. Their last meeting had been in his terms. They'd fought again, but that's familiar. He watches Hanzo notice him, and his brother gets the first word.

It's a bit different when he can disappear into the night. Here, they're trapped on this ship together. He immediately recognizes that. Maybe- just maybe, it'll be for the better. Maybe this is good. He smiles behind his mask, almost hearing that hopeful thought in Zenyattas voice.

"Anija." His voice is soft as he turns to face him, palms turned out, a show of peace. "I... did not expect to see you here as well."

Then again, Reinhardt is here too. He tries to quell the anxiety tensing his body, let himself flow with the situation. He doesn't particularly like feeling cornered like this though. The ship is a little claustrophobic compared to the vastness of Nepal or even the Overwatch base.

What does he say now? Right.

"Have you thought since our last meeting?"

[ And for a few hours more Dick sleeps the sleep of the chronically sleep-deprived; still, if not exactly peaceful. It's close to dinner (what should have been dinner) when he starts awake with a gasp, thrashing, body all tension and resistance in a flash. He zeroes in on Thane at his perch, and just as fast that feeling of undefined proximity registers. Right. The Ingress. The Moira. The empty room that isn't empty anymore.

He sags back onto the cot, passing a tired hand over his face. ]

As it is, his subject just looks up from his MID in bland surprise - it's been two months since he's had to deal with shit like 'strange unkempt person takes my photo in public', so he's not exactly expecting it aboard the Moira.

He recovers quickly, arching a single incredulous eyebrow. ]

I don't know. Honestly, I've more worried about other stuff.

[personal profile] poolhall_killer 2016-08-02 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Could it be...?

Most of the day's been consumed by this tedious new job. Venom's finished his current set of windows, and before he can be assigned new ones, he picks up and does a bit more wandering.

Fortune must have smiled upon him because he's found his new home away from dorm: the library. He never got a chance to visit the Guild's library before his last mission, so it's nice to see the Moira having quite the collection. Unable to resist the idea of losing himself in a book, Venom quietly places his equipment near the entrance and goes to explore.

The lack of lighting doesn't get the assassin down at all as he's perusing the collection, not able to pick out a place to start. As he's close to getting lost, he spots a curious man with even more curious ears. The man's presence is just as unusual as his humanoid appearance.

Venom's not even sure if he should say something as they are in a library. Still, he's going to try, albeit softly. "I didn't expect them to have such a variety."

Originally Starscream stopped by the medbay looking to see if Ratchet was there. As soon as he saw the small ... human? Robot human? All thoughts shattered and he completely forgot why he came there in the first place. Call it scientific curiosity or just plain being nosy. Either way, now he's very much distracted.

The large seeker stepped on closer though he was sure the person had seen him already (how can anyone miss something as big and glorious as Starscream anyway).

"You're new. Also a ninja?" The guy had a sword like a ninja, he's seen TV before.

For all he knows the humans probably created some sort of robot ninja just because they could.

There it is, a complexity of emotion washing over him when it comes to his brother. While his face keeps the all familiar scowl, he is internally conflicted.

Relieved, he knows that Genji is in one piece. (More or less, because anything missing is his fault anyway.) Angry, because he shouldn't be here, Genji should be far, far away from this and this isn't right. (It isn't right that Genji should be trapped here with him. Or is he angry because they both have no where to run now, forced to face each other? His greatest mistake?)

And the fury of knowing too cruelly of how much different he is.

This is a different man than the Genji he thought he'd slain all those years ago. He hates it.

"I think you are still a fool," Hanzo says coldly.

Whirl is attempting to get through the ship, which as usual means a somewhat hilarious shuffle as he tries to avoid clacking his wings on doorways and in general just whacking himself on parts of the ship. Not only was this space not built for Cybertronians, it was more specifically not built for very large ones. Meaning that occasionally he had slight...difficulties. More than anything he was trying to focus on not hitting the wing that Rodimus had bent back into place.

He might be unvincible but come on.

As Whirl's making his way through the ship, he notices Rung up ahead on the path and lets out a sound that's probably supposed to be a laugh, before he speeds up, skittering to a stop behind Rung, claws clamping down over his shoulders and his helm leaning around so it's pretty clear who's grabbing him. You know. If he can't tell from the claws.

"Yo Eyebrows! Looks like they finally tracked down someone with some brains for this outfit!" His optic is arced as he talks, and he sounds pleased if nothing else, talking very quickly and completely blitzing over any response Rung would have. "When'd you get here! Ah, no, don't tell me. Since I haven't seen you pulling the meet and greet stuff over the MIDs and nerding it up with everyone else, bet you just showed up. Am I right?""
