If you wanted to spend the day playing with kids, you could've just let me know when I told you to meet me here.
[She doesn't actually mind him doing it, it's actually pretty endearing. She just can't show that she's really amused by the kids throwing rocks at him because it will make her look soft. She can't have that happening.]

[He doesn't stare, but he does gape for half a second before his wit comes back to him.] I- Cassandra, you're beautiful. [Just filling that quotient, apparently.]
no subject
Do you want to go out into the water? You won't even have to swim.

[Taking hold of his hand, she leads him out into the water. It's been so long since she's been to a beach just to enjoy herself, that it feels surreal to be doing it now.]
We'll just go out to your knees first.
[Since she doesn't want him to think she's going to lead him out into chest deep water or anything. Especially not with his prosthetic still attached.]

[Or it will spark and die. Either / or.]

Let's keep going out further. We might see some fish or something out there.
[Or his arm might spark and kill him or something, it'll be an adventure.]

[This might prove to be entertaining.]
You should see if you can do it.
[It's totally not how fish work but it's going to be funny anyway.]
no subject
Well, you have to teach me how to swim first, right?
no subject
I promised I would, didn't I? The waves might mess you up a little, but you should always be able to touch bottom out here.
no subject
[He looks back to Cassandra, enthusiasm renewed.] Okay. What should I do?
no subject
Next time, take off the arm before you get into the water. For now, you should be out far enough to float. If you can't float, you're always going to sink, no matter how hard you try to swim.
[She demonstrates by laying back in the water. This is a good time to note that Cassandra is not a good teacher and she's a watch me then do what I do kind of person.]
no subject
[Watch him flounder, Cassandra!]
no subject
You have to trust that you're not going to sink. If you're tense, you'll go under again. And if you don't trust the water, then trust me. I've got you.
no subject
[So he closes his eyes and focuses.] I trust you. And- and I can try to trust the water. [His lip twitches in a smile, and he tries to relax. She's right; it is easier with her there.]
no subject
The important thing is going to be making sure you know the arm motions. You paddle with your arms and kick with your legs. Floating makes it all easier somehow.
[She can't describe why because she's sure it has something to do with science, and that's all over her head.]
I can show you how to move your arms, if you want.

And stays out and waits for him to do the same and get out to her.]
Now you try.
