And while he's playing the part of responsible adult, he should've warned the guy not to drink the water. But he didn't think he'd actually do it.]
Wow, did you lose a bet or something? [Nick arches a brow at him.] No one drinks ocean water, I don't care what planet it's on.
no subject
No, I just needed to check something.
[AKA he didn't believe the stories, but he can tell anyone who arrives from his world that they are indeed true and save them the stomach ache.]
Is it like this on all planets?
no subject
[Nick's been to a handful of worlds by now, and there's no telling how many more are actually out there. Surely at least one planet has drinkable seawater. Hell, there's probably a planet out there that has chicken broth in their oceans.
He'd like to go to that planet.
He steps up to the water's edge, watching as it laps at the toes of his tennis shoes.]
It was on my planet. Sometimes the water looked really blue, but you knew better. Not just because of the salt, but because of all the shit that was floating around in it out there somewhere. [He tilts his head at him.] Are you one of the new ones?
no subject
His face furrows when he says that, but honestly with the quality of water where he was from...yeah he's had worse. He watches as the man comes to the water and then he finds himself staring back at it. It was almost hypnotic the way the waves moves against one another and the shoreline.]
Yeah. We don't have this where I'm from.
no subject
What, not at all? [Well, that would explain tasting it, like a kid trying to catch the first snowflakes on their tongue just to see what it tasted like.] Where are you from?
no subject
[A sad thing to say, but he's use to that fact. The closest thing they have is a big lake, but even then one could always see the trees or mountains on the other side.]
The Walls.
[That's all he can really say, because his world is only just that. He wasn't even sure if his planet had a proper name to be given.]
no subject
Huh. [Nick looks around them, watching as other people enjoy the water, running into the waves, splashing each other, all the fun and games. He nods in their direction.] Then you should definitely do some of that while you've got the chance.
no subject
Can't swim.
[Or well, that's his excuse right now. He averts his eyes again and looks down at the sand and the crystal clear water that was now lapping at his knees.]
What about you? Why aren't you doing that? [The whole giggling and enjoying life thing.]
no subject
Though, credit where it's due, she's probably better at taking care of herself than Nick is at taking care of himself.]
Me? [He shouldn't sound so surprised. It's a perfectly good question.] I'm not really a sun worshiper. That and sharks. I watched Jaws way too many times as a kid.
[Do they even have sharks here? Surely not.]
I bet there's someone who could teach you.
no subject
[BAD IDEA NICK. He doesn't need to know about water titans, but oh well the question is out there now and he is curious.]
It's not high on my 'to do' list.
[He doesn't even have a list right now, but learning how to swimming is surely at the bottom of it.]
no subject
[Or just don't go into the water at all, which seems to be the plan they're going with here.]
So, you want a real drink? I bet they've got really good rum here.
no subject
His eyebrows raise and eyes widen when he hears that. He thought this world was safe. The ocean was suppose to be some kind of wondrous, safe, and beautiful thing. But no, apparently that has water titans. He is glad he didn't go in it now.]
Is your world doing anything about them?
[You know. Like killing them?]
Yeah, why not. [He suddenly has little interest in the water.]
no subject
Yeah, I think they might be on some endangered lists or something. [So. Protecting them. Nick turns away from the water and heads back up the beach.] You are over eighteen, right? What's your name?
no subject
[WHY ARE YOU PROTECTING THIS???
When he hears that next question he raises an eyebrow. He was starting to wonder just how old people thought he was.]
Yeah. Much older.
[34 yo.]
It's Levi.
