"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |

But he can't let himself get lost in remembering anything right now.
Quick to slide out from behind the wall again once he catches on, his rifle is already up. All he has to do is take aim. The first series of bullets catch another Caducan in the head, sending them to the floor. The next, however, drop to a lower target--the hand of the enemy who is now closest to Rinzler. Having seen them taking aim, his shots force them to drop their weapon and from there, he leaves them for Rinzler to handle. There are only two left, and he settles his focus on the one further from the program.
Just as he pulls the trigger again, however, the Caducan slips out of the way and merely gets scraped in the shoulder as the bullets whizz by. Barely realizing that they've returned fire in response and not armed with the same reactions times as usual, Wash gets pegged in the thigh. It's through armour plating, so the bullet doesn't get too deep or compromise him as much as it could have, but that doesn't stop it from being painful or surprising. ]
Shit--
[ Stumbling back, a little blindsided, Wash exhales harshly but doesn't let the injury stop him from taking another shot. This one is, thankfully, successful. He's just... going to prop himself up on the wall for a second. He'll keep his gun up as long as Rinzler is dealing with the remaining foe, but after that he's taking a second to breathe. And silently curse Texas for fucking him up right before a ship-wide battle. ]

They're not in the arena, and Rinzler's blade plunges down without delay.
Two threats left. Then one—but if the sharp curse from behind him is much sign, it didn't come quite so easily this time. Rinzler snaps upright, a lunghing slash to knock the remaining weapon out of line before he twists forward, finishing them
The program's helmet turns back immediately, scans flashing out in assessment. Wash's signature is as strong as ever—probably nothing critical. Rinzler leaves the corpses where they fell stepping back toward Wash's position with a sharp tilt to his black mask.

It's fine. It's nothing. Armour took the brunt of it.
[ A glance back down at his leg shows the puncture in the metal, blood just starting to trickle out. Really, it looks worse than it is. Hurts like a bitch, but he just needs a breath or two and he'll be good to go again. Chest heaving in something of a sigh, Wash nods to the hallway ahead of them. Maybe he's a little embarrassed to have taken a hit this early in, fighting alongside Rinzler, but he doesn't bother showing this or even let it bother him too much. Not a big deal. He's been fighting a while now before the program even showed up, so he was bound to pick up an injury at some point. ]
There'll probably be more coming this way. We should keep moving and meet them before they find anyone else.

Still, the dismissal is obvious, and Rinzler lets his own stare follow Wash's nod. He isn't wrong. And if there were more threats approaching, stopping to patch the damage could result in more danger than it solved. The helmet dips in acknowledgment, and Rinzler slips out ahead to take the lead. If his choice of search path happens to bring them slightly closer to the medbay... well. Hopefully it won't make a difference.]

chill dude he's not going to crash again, god.For about half a second, Wash is almost worried that Rinzler is going to insist he do something other than continue onward. Thankfully, this isn't the case. When Rinzler nods and starts moving again, Wash feels something almost akin to relief.
One final, long breath to stabilize himself, the Freelancer then pushes himself off of the wall and once again begins to follow the program. There's a limp in his stride now, of course, but he's gotten pretty good at blocking out pain in situations like this. He can ignore the injury for now and keep moving, keep fighting.
Focus slipping back to the task at hand, Wash's eyes dart to his motion tracker again, but all he can see is a dot that indicates Rinzler, nothing else. Anyone within the range of his tracker would have heard the sounds of their tussle just now and would have come running, so it makes some sense that he's not picking anything up. The battle's been going long enough by now too that, hopefully, there should be few Caducans left.
That is, if the crew has been doing a good job in the fight against them. ]
