"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |
a.
She comes in at an angle, then, her typical silent efficient self, firing a round from her machine pistol into the enemy's neck, then into his torso as she continues her approach. A swift kick to the head finishes incapacitating the Caducean and she turns to face Wash. ]
Get the hell back to your room.
[ She pauses enough to glance both ways, keeping an eye out for more enemies, before gesturing him on. She'll guard him until he manages to hole up somewhere safer. ]

About to steady himself and move in to deliver a blow, it's almost a relief when someone else drops the Caducan to the floor. Almost. And then definitely not when he gets a proper look at who it is who just helped him out.
Of. Fucking. Course. It would be Texas. The very person who'd messed him up just enough to make fighting difficult. ]
Like hell.
[ He practically spits the words, pointedly ignoring her gesture for him to follow her. The last thing he's doing is going back to his room to hole up while there's a goddamn battle raging outside in the halls. If he can move, he can fight, and he'll be damned if Tex of all people is going to try babysitting him. He's managed this long! He can keep going, as far as he's concerned. Pain isn't a deterrent. It's not like he can do that much more damage to himself, anyway. ]
I'm not going anywhere until the ship is clear.
no subject
Sure. You're going to kill yourself.
[ Never let it be said that Tex is entirely heartless. She positions herself to guard from anyone approaching from the long end of the hallway. ]
Reload and try not to let your ego get bruised because I'm helping you.
[ She doesn't know Washington well enough to know exactly how prideful he was up until this incident between them, but that's really all that can account for his stubbornness now. From what she remembers of him from before, during the Project, this doesn't seem to match up, but she also knows a lot of shit happened to him during its run. So who knew how typical this might be for Washington? In any case, she's begun to view him in a similar light to how she views Tucker and Caboose and the rest of the people who have somehow crossed paths with her during the waning days of the war—though they're not her favorite people, they're victims of the Project as much as she is, and she feels a protective sort of burden toward keeping them safe. The lesson she taught Washington was meant to keep him from crossing boundaries with her, but it wasn't meant to kill him, and she certainly didn't feel he deserved to die for it. ]

My ego is fine. Doesn't change the fact that I don't need your help.
[ Really, he's never had much of an issue with his pride getting in the way of him seeking help. That had always been more Carolina's thing. Wash has always been aware of where and when he needs assistance and rarely took much shame in seeking it. It's just these particular circumstances that has his ego slightly bruised. Help from the last person he wants help from. The last person he wants to be around. The person who'd just handed his ass to him and caused the difficulties he's dealing with here in the first place.
Slamming the fresh clip into place, he pushes himself even harder than before to look more okay than he is. Considering he's having a hard time just standing up straight without being in pain, it doesn't work perfectly, but he'll take it so long as he looks at least more competent and capable than not. ]
If you're going to protect anyone, go find someone who doesn't actually know what they're doing.

I'm not going to argue over the state of your ego. Don't turn this away out of spite, though. Understand? If I walk away now that's it.
no subject
Fine. Stay.
[ The words are painfully begrudging, Wash not afraid to make it perfectly clear how much he hates accepting her help. Pistol reloaded, he steps forward, brushing past Texas to make his way toward the next section of the corridor. His steps are slightly uneven, but he presses forth as though he's not completely aware of the fact. ]
But I'm not going back to my room. Not while we're still fighting.
no subject
All right, let's see how many of them are left then.
[ Unlike Wash, she hasn't taken the time to remove her armor from her robot body and put it on. She had gone to the Caducan ship as part of the negotiation team and then returned and started fighting. She doesn't shy away from taking point, though, and also doesn't bother to glance back and see if Wash is following her. She'll continue to rescue the defenseless as needed, but since Wash claims not to need rescuing, it's time for attacking them head-on. ]

Falling into step behind her, he watches their backs, just in case any Caducans have managed their way around the ship by now. He doesn't trust that someone won't come up behind them. Better to be paranoid than shot in the back. ]
My guess would be a lot. Since they came here intending to kill us all, I doubt their numbers are small.
[ And he has no idea how good most of the rest of the crew is when it comes to battles like this. Maybe there won't be much trouble handling the situation, or maybe there will be. Honestly, he's more prepared for the latter. ]
Can't say I'm surprised they didn't go for negotiations.
no subject
[ Despite Wash's words, none of the Caducans appears to be nearby as they proceed. She agrees, they probably knew they had the strength in numbers to defeats the Moira crew, so she wonders where they are. She begins to sweep the area more thoroughly as they get into the next space, pausing in the opening of the room. ]

[ Whether it was the planet, the people on it, whatever, Wash can't say he doesn't understand the way the Caducans feel. He understands that desire for revenge, the kind that drives you to going out of your way to get it, to being willing to give your life to get it.
Understanding doesn't mean he doesn't blame them for this mess, though. Hardly anyone on this ship was here when the triggering event happened, and none of them deserve to be dragged into this. There's getting revenge, and then there's taking it to far. The Caducans are absolutely doing the latter. ]
What does surprise me is that they bothered to make it seem like they were willing to consider anything but a full-on attack.
[ Though he remains a few steps behind Tex, Wash continues to follow her, helping to sweep the area while also keeping an eye on the halls behind them. Still, it's quiet. It's almost eerie. Surely they should have run into more hostiles by now--the ship is big, but so is the one belonging to the Caducans. They had to have enough soldiers to flood the ship, and yet...
He doesn't trust this. They could be walking into a trap, or into some kind of ambush. ]
no subject
[ She says the word bluntly. She would have been a force to reckon with if something like that happened to her. ]
They wanted to ambush us. They drew us right into their trap, too. Honestly, I should have been more vocal about not trusting them when we were planning the negotiations.
[ Too little, too late, now. ]
