"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |
step 3 & 4
There are very few auras still around. Many of them are dying Caducans and still living Moirans, injured and otherwise, and Ava steps around the dying as if she can't hear them moaning. She follows her senses to a room full of bodies and only one person alive, and as she turns the corner, her hand goes to her katana --
But she finds Deacon, alive, which forces the relief to be even more palpable than before. They're both a fucking mess: though most of her injuries have been healed forcefully by drinking blood, the evidence is still there on her head and on her shirt and pants as she approaches. ]
SNAFU is so old, honestly. And I haven't heard FUBAR from anyone except my parents.
[ It's supposed to be a tease. It doesn't come out quite right, her throat raw and her emotions tangled. She crouches down, voice quiet. ]
Are you hurt?
no subject
[He shifts and hides his laser pistol away. There's no one left to kill here. What Caducan threats might have remained, Ava undoubtedly took care of on her way here.]
Yeah, I've got some major owies but nothing the medbay can't fix. I'm not going to be winning any weight lifting competitions for a while, but I've totally had worse.
[He's already put a makeshift tourniquet on his arm where some shrapnel sliced it open. More worrying to him was the shot he took to his shoulder. He got lucky; it missed the major artery, but it still hurt like hell.]
How about you? You okay?
no subject
[ Ava is subdued in the way she talks, but she immediately starts to look Deacon over. Her medical knowledge is severely limited but her work in the Med Bay has allowed her to study, if nothing else. She doesn't have bandages but can find some on the Caducan ship...but she doesn't want to leave him alone.
Quietly, she mutters: ]
I feel like shit.
[ It's the closest thing she can say to give an indication that she's in a bad way. Her body feels jittery, like she's had twenty shots of pure espresso in her veins. She stands, going to the other bodies to look for anything of use. There are no medical supplies among the bodies, though she finds enough weapons. She returns to Deacon with a somewhat unsteady gait. ]
Your shoulder looks bad. We should get you to the Med Bay...or I can find something to stop the bleeding until I can get you back to the Moira.
no subject
But I don't trust that the Caducans didn't poison their medical supplies before starting this fight, just in case we try to use them. [His paranoia is strong right now.] So...I vote for doing what we can to make sure I don't bleed out too much here and then getting the hell back to the Moira.
no subject
Yeah, don't do that, will you?
[ Deacon's paranoia mirrors her own a little, and he brings up a good point. Under other circumstances, she wouldn't have agreed, but now-- She gives a nod and releases him so she can go look for anything they can use. Ava takes to pilfering through some of the rooms nearby until she finds cloth, tearing it as she returns to Deacon. ]
Let's wrap it, keep pressure there, and I'll help you back. It should be enough...but you need to tell me if you start feeling worse or dizzy, or if you're going to pass out.
[ As she begins to wrap his shoulder tightly, a thought occurs to her, completely unbidden: He is not a synth. She's been having these pop-up thoughts since the Frenzy, uncontrolled, unlike her. It's never been like this. Now...she's as perturbed by it happening as she is about the truth that comes to her mind without contemplating.
Deacon's not a synth. And instead of letting that remain to herself, she fixes him with a nearly accusatory stare as she finishes her work. ]
Why are you lying to me?
no subject
Uh...I'm gonna need a little more to go on if I'm going to make a stab at answering that.
[He presses his hand to his shoulder, keeping pressure on the wound, and really wishes he could not be having this conversation while injured. Like, it'd be reassuring to know that he could run away without fainting if he needed to.]
no subject
You're not a synth.
[ It's said in a low tone, angered, nearly hissed. ]
no subject
Um...yeah, okay, you're right, I'm not actually a synth. Everything I told you about synths and the Institute and the Railroad is true, so it was't all bullshit.
Oh, yeah, you asked why. Uh... [There's a whisper in his ear, a woman's voice listing all his sins, and he shakes his head to get it out.]
Would you believe me if I said I don't know? I do it all the time to, like, basically everyone. I'm told it's really annoying. At first it was just because I didn't know you, needed to be cautious and stuff. But afterwards it was just because I baaaaasically don't know how to stop.
That's not really a good reason, is it.
no subject
[ She knew his heart beat wasn't mechanical. She knew something wasn't right about that stupid story. But she's always assumed it was something else, something about being a synth. And his excuse is just I basically don't know how to stop. ]
So, what, you just keep lying about what you are - who you are? What truth have you told me - besides the Railroad and the Institute?
[ And how can she even believe that. After a moment, she hisses, shakes her head, and holds up a hand. ]
Fuck it. We can't... Fuck. I'm not doing this here.
[ But later, she's going to twist that arm of his until he answers her questions. ]
We have to go.
no subject
There are Railroad agents who've know me for literal years and don't know if I'm a synth or not. The lies just sort of take on a life of their own. I'm a liar. It's what I do.
Everything that I said happened at the Museum in Boston, that was all true. Although under the circumstances, I'd totally understand if you didn't believe me.
no subject
[ She gets up a little too forcefully, all that anger going back to her limbs. Her muscles are still twitching and she's a bit unsteady. Doesn't stop her from offering a hand for him, even if she looks like she might push him right back down. ]
I'll decide what I believe. Later. When I'm not looking over my shoulder every two-goddamn-seconds because I think I'm going to be murdered.
[ Her eyes shut tightly for a moment but the hand is still there, still on offer. ]
Come on.
no subject
[He takes the risk and her hand and hopes she doesn't decide to drop him. She'd be within her rights to.]
no subject
I want to believe that.
[ She does. But she's absolutely unbelievably pissed off right now, and with what's happened, she can't continue to argue. She's just going to lose it again. ]
Come on, we brought over one of the pods. We can head back and get you to the medbay.
