"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |
Toriel | on the Moria | OTA
To say things have 'gone to shit' is an accurate summary of the chaos falling over the ship. Attempted negotiations and peace fell through faster than Toriel expected.
The boss monster knows she can't hurt these people. She knows this even as the ship is invaded, even as violence breaks out. The best she can do is stifle it. If not that keep as many people safe as she can until the fighting desists. She will show as much mercy as she can manage, even if others choose violence. Toriel can't blame them, not in a time like this. Not when a great injustice has been done onto the Caducans, onto the Moria crew who inherited this problem.
"Stand back, quickly!" She commands, running forward as fire swirls to life between a Moria crew member and a Caducan's invader. The sudden fire magic bursting forth should be enough to startle the attacker back for now. Enough time for Toriel to properly check on her crewmate. "Are you hurt?"
Whatever reprieve they've found will not last long. Her fire flickers enough for the enraged refugee to come back at the pair.
[B - Death becomes us - Closed to Asriel & Sans]
"Stay close, please." She urges firmly, holding onto her son's hand as they move together through the chaos of the hallway. Those of the Moria fight back the Caducans. The stench of blood and the sight of fallen bodies only make Toriel's grip on Asriel's hand tighten further. It is the war all over again, simply in smaller quarters. Toriel never wanted to see this again, much less have her children or family be a part of this kind of bloodshed.
It makes her mind jump to the death toll, to who might die from this mess.
She won't lose her son again, never again. Even if she has to pay dearly for it. "We need to find your siblings, quickly."

Asriel's voice is small, a little scared as he clings onto Toriel's hand desperately. Every loud noise earned a flinch, every body they came across got him to stumble just a little.
"The fighting is getting closer."
There's gunfire nearby, and it sends a sharp chill down Asriel's spine. He remembers what it feels like to get attacked by a gun, and it's not something he wants to experience again.
Or have any of his family experience it either.

"We'll be safe soon." She can lock the door, lock her children away from this. "Please, if you can call Frisk and Chara- we need to find them."
Toriel assumes the MID's work still, assumes and hopes.
no subject
"Chara- Frisk- are you there? Where are you? We need to meet up and head someplace safe-"
His voice is cut off by a yelp as a gunshot rings out from the next room over.
no subject
Another gunshot rings out followed closely by a scream, then silence. A refugee emerges, pausing at the sight of the two monsters in the hall. The gun in her hand fills in the blanks. The anger on her face only writes in what lay in their future.
"Stay back." Toriel warns, baring her teeth in a snarl. Fire burns at her finger tips and she does not hesitate to summon her magic in a wave of fire, attempting to frighten the refugee back into the room.
no subject
He knows exactly what's going to happen to them.
"Mom-" Asriel's voice is high, desperate. "Mom, please - let's just run!"
His hand reaches to paw at her dress. They could still make it if they run now, all they had to do is get moving right now-

The fire catches Rail off guard, enough so that she blinks dumbly at Toriel's question. There's a cut across Rail's already scarred up face, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her any. She was more irritated at being struck while trying to put some distance between herself and the enemy.
The sound of footsteps causes Rail's head to snap up, and their attacker is already on the move again. Her hand reaches into her pocket, pulling out something star-shaped with a small pin at the top.]
Lady, I'd take two steps back if I were you.
[Yanking the pin, Rail throws the grenade in the direction of the refugee. It erupts in a wave of fire and smoke into the narrow corridor.]

She covers her mouth with a sleeve, wincing at the explosion of smoke and fire. The refugee screams, caught in the attack, burning.]
Let me heal you, at least. [She insists firmly, trying to not look at the dying refugee.]
no subject
Toriel's voice snaps her out of it, and the offer gets a small head tilt.]
What, why? Don't bother, I can't feel it. And I'm not gonna drop dead from something like this.
no subject
You won't, but this won't be the only injury you sustain given this fight. Given the anger in their hearts, they will not stop.
Do not let their anger consume you. Do not be consumed by this killing. [She states firmly back, unable to just ignore this.]
no subject
Because obviously that worked so well when she tried saving her own little brother.]What are you talking about? This is the kind of stuff I was made for, you know. And they'll just kill us all if we don't kill 'em first so, survival of the fittest, right? Ain't that the law of nature?
[She perks up, with misplaced pride.]
If you're worried I'm gonna end up blowing you or the folks on this ship up, don't worry - I always know where I'm aiming!

It's enough of a surprise--first the fire, yes, but Toriel, who had so explicitly told him she would 'not forgive' him for his part in SEELE's methods, who had (like Sans) given him an ultimatum: never approach Frisk again. Her intentions had been clear enough that he hadn't bothered to defend himself. But now--
He stares wide-eyed at her as she directly interrupts the Caducan's attack, apparently on his behalf... and then--even more bewilderingly--stops to ask if he's hurt.
??????????
no subject
"Have you been injured?"
no subject
Well, maybe he is.
He watches her fire chase the Caducan down, red light reflected in red eyes--both of their eyes, his and Toriel's both. He looks back at her.
"--no." He wouldn't have been, even had she never arrived. But he doesn't say that, because he doesn't think to. What he says instead is--
"I thought you wouldn't speak to me."
no subject
"Please stay safe. It is dangerous here now."

....
"....I see."
He lowers his head, reflectively.
'I never said I hated you!'
He remembers Shinji saying that to him; his true feelings, set free in that painful moment of their final meeting. But this is different, isn't it? What Toriel is saying...
"Don't worry. You can spend your time elsewhere. The Caducans will do me no harm."
He meets her eyes, but there's no smile right now. He's simply matter-of-fact.
She can't stand the thought of a painful loss. Even if it's someone she doesn't like--
"There are others you'd rather be protecting in my stead."
Better to find them, and help them. He will not stand in her way.

Before the attack
Frisk paces around the room, jumps on and off the bed repeatedly, checks and rechecks and rechecks their inventory for chisps and their dagger and everything they need for that justin-case they're praying with all their heart and soul won't happen. They're so wound up that when Toriel enters the shared room Frisk yelps and jumps nearly a foot in the air, whirling around with a scared and startled expression.
"M-Mom!"

"Did something happen while I was gone?"
no subject
Frisk glances down to the floor, their fingers twining together and around in distressed patterns.
"...did they say they're gonna make friends yet?"
no subject
"I'm sure we'll be hearing back soon enough."

"It...it'll work, right? They've gotta listen..."

the open one 👌
Oh, and the giant bipedal goat.
"I'm quite alright, darling," she starts, before the Caducan recovers from the burst of fire. "This one's feisty, isn't he?" she finishes, not even hesitating to shoot the Caducan in the head. Right between the eyes. Lovely.
"...Wasn't he, rather." Ha! Top comedy.
this can only end well lmao
"Next time, focus on scaring the back to their ship, not execution."
