In the sky, yes-- and no, no oil. In fact they were being hunted by the native population and we contracted a mercenary fleet to protect them. A little bit of good there, I like to think. [She says with a faint smile.]

Yes, Chara turned around and killed Sans. Adrian Clark killed Athena and she didn't resurge. Peter Maximoff and Alice Quinn set a trap for Rinzler and J was caught in the middle of the ensuing fight. And one of the cybertrons, Tarn, killed another, Riptide on a planet with a strange Ingress that sent us all home for a brief time.

[She sighs heavily.] Tensions are high. The Captains are looking to instate a police force to keep everyone in line, but I don't know that it'll be enough. The consequences aren't severe enough to deter this from happening, and the source of the disagreements ranges everywhere from past-grudges to current miscommunications.

Sure you can-- as long as you don't fall off. I suspect the captains and the medical bay would be pretty cross with me if I let my fellow librarians get injured on the job.

[Elizabeth smiles and crosses to her desk where she pulls out an electric kettle, a large bottle of water, and a box of tea bags. She starts the process of getting the water heated up.]

You seem to be in good spirits, Leigh, despite finding yourself here.

[ Don't mind her attempts at being funny. She'll explain in a second, ducking her head briefly at Elizabeth's next comment before kinda shrugging a shoulder. ]

I'm a big fan of "fake it until you make it". Pretend you're in a good mood, even if you're not. Especially at work. What happens outside of work is exactly that; something that happened outside of work. Truth is, I kinda don't know what to think of this situation, other than maybe I hit my head and it's not real.

Oh yes, I've made careful notes, I'll share them with you later. [She grins as she fetches some mugs.]

[Elizabeth nods, understanding, through Leigh's explanation. That's a pretty normal reaction, in her opinion, to a situation that's outside of anything most people on board had experienced previously.] I felt the same way. I came from the year 1959, and if that means anything to you, you know how foreign all of this was at first.

But we're here to support the crew that arrives. We've all been where you're sitting, most of us care enough to help if it's needed.

Hey Allison... [Elizabeth chuckles, kneeling down in the sand in front of her.] You have to watch these things-- [She points to the drink.] Apparently if they don't get you in the morning, they'll get you when your trying to drink them. What is it anyway?

Pffffft... [Allison tries to act casual but she's beet red. Clearly just from the coughing.]

It's, like, a sour apple candy cocktail? Super sweet, super sour, and super boozy.

[So basically perfect. She quickly takes another draw at the straw, because it's not fair for someone to be as cool and cute as Elizabeth.]

Huh... it sounds interesting. Do you mind if I steal a sip? [That was what friends did, right? Or, if Allison wasn't of a mind to share, she'll probably just tell Elizabeth where she can get one of her own.]

[If she's not at her desk, she's always in the back. And with a lack of assistants to help, she's in the back more often than not.]

Bel? [Elizabeth emerges, looking a little harried, and maybe a little embarrassed.] How good to see you again, how are you feeling? [Best focus on the cryo... not the FastPenta.]

[has had two fewer weeks to forget that incident, thanks to said cryo, and would rather forget both. eyes light up to see Elizabeth, though, taking in her harried look and reaching for her hands.] Never better. Have you heard about what's down below?

Oh, yes, I just haven't had a moment since the new arrivals showed up. [Elizabeth squeezes Bel's hands and laughs a little at her own extreme workload.] They say I'm going to get another assistant, so that should help some. But until then...

[Elizabeth raises her eyebrows and nods knowingly. That's all she's trying to do, honestly-- her best. And see what happens.]

[She smiles a thank you at the waiter when they bring the water and looks back at her menu.] The crew seems to be growing exponentially. I only wish that they wouldn't expect miracles from the captains. We're all only doing the best we can.

[Elizabeth smiles sympathetically-- Tony may think it's crazy that there's more than one of him running around, but it's just another day for her.]

Nice to meet you, Mister Stark. I think I've seen the same kind of shell-shocked look on other peoples' faces when they find themselves here, so you're at least in fairly good company. But, you seem like someone pretty well-versed in physics...

[She indicates the stone and tosses it, skipping it only once this time. So close!] How are you with quantum physics?

[ His lips twitch a bit as the stone skips, but he keeps his amusement in check. He won't comment if her rock-skipping track record isn't totally flawless. ]

Pretty damn good, in my not-so-humble opinion. Not exactly my specific focus, but I've dabbled. Half of it's purely theoretical, anyway.

Any particular reason?

...I've seen the theoretical proven. [Maybe she can help him not feel quite so confused about there being more than one of him. Elizabeth is probably the most qualified person on the Moira to explain the quantum physics that are no doubt working alongside the Ingress, so she feels a certain responsibility.]

[Not to mention she's had a couple drinks, and so her concerns about how closely she can be tied with quantum physics are a little more lax than they usually are.]

The universe is made up of constants and variables. Every time a variable exists, alternate timelines are created. Another version of all of us. There are millions of them. Millions of you, in short. Each one made some different choice, however inconsequential it might have seemed at the time.

It is when you're talking about alien desserts! [She smiles and laughs lightly.] I reckon you're actually surprised that I've been with the Moira that long though. Most people can't think of anything but getting home but... I'm happy here.

[Gaby's willpower eventually gives way and she succumbs to the cakes that she's ordered. Why let food go to waste after all? She does pause mid-chew however at what Elizabeth last says.

She swallows before continuing further.]

It must be worse than the Moira. It's a bit of an eyesore. And I can't imagine living in space is pleasant either.

I admit, for a while the observation deck gave me knock-knees. [She smiles sheepishly and pushes the dish of berries back towards Gaby to try.] I enjoy the time we get on planets, mostly because it affords us a chance to explore, but also because it's a definite change of scenery.

Though if you don't like the interior of the ship, you're always welcome to come by my quarters. I've had it decorated very warmly.

By your standards maybe. [Elizabeth doesn't seem at all bothered by the idea that he's calling her ancient, in fact she looks amused. People coming to realize that the Moira's crew contained people of all kinds of places and times was one of her favorite things-- mostly because it meant she could be honest about the year she came from.]

By mine, it's the only way to listen to music. And the best way still, in my opinion.

[Oh yes. It would be a real shame to make him put on a shirt, especially when he's still fixing her a meal.] Well, I'll spare you the trouble. [Elizabeth walks by, dragging her fingertips lightly across his back in an affectionate gesture on her way to the vegetables.]

Mm... about five hundred? [Don't judge her Ivan?] An unlimited charge card and what do I do? Go completely off the deep end.

( ivan stops in the middle of attempting to sneak a fleeting touch back to stare at elizabeth. good god. )

Five hundred-- you can't seriously be thinking of reading them all?

No Ivan! [She laughs, taking the vegetables to the sink to rinse them.] But someone on the ship might find use for one of them. I've had to tell too many people that we don't have something on a particular subject, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to fill as many holes as I could.

[The girl looks up at Fat Ninny with wide, thrilled eyes before shrieking with joy. She fed a horse sugar cubes!! She whirls around happily, nodding to Miles when he asks if she wants a ride.]

Alright, let's get you up there, then-- [Elizabeth picks the girl up easily, like she's used to it, and helps her flop front-first onto the horse. Then it's all a climbing act on the girl's part. Once she's sure the girl isn't about to slide off, Elizabeth looks around at Miles.] Thank you.

[ miles has about the dumbest smile imaginable on his face, obviously totally melted by the little girl's delight. congratulations, elizabeth, you have found miles naismith vorkosigan's weakness. ]

It's my pleasure. [ he couldn't be more sincere. his eyes are practically shining as he checks once more to make sure she's secure in the saddle, then he takes the reins to nudge fat ninny into a gentle trot. he glances at elizabeth with an open smile. ] Would you like to come along for the walk? Fat Ninny certainly won't mind the extra company.

[In truth, Elizabeth has a weakness for kids too. Little girls in particular, who just want to experience childhood and make good memories. Sometimes she wondered how Jack and the Little Sisters were getting on, but she tries not to dwell on it too much. That chapter is closed, for now.]

Well if Fat Ninny doesn't mind, I'd love to. [She smiles back and falls into step with Miles and the horse, hands clasped loosely behind her back as she admires the ocean and the breeze.]

It's been a long time since I've been to a beach. How about you?
