the glass menagerie
"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."

After the missive from the people aboard the vessel carrying those from Caducus Secondary, the Moira is alive with preparations for defending the ship. No matter how big or small, each individual is entrusted with the responsibility of protecting themselves and their fellow crew members at all costs. With the Captains having divided them into teams to devise appropriate Plans of Action, they have decided to merge all the ideas into a singular strategy and have relayed it to the entirety of the crew via the MID. Everyone has been given a vital part to play, and although the Captains realize that some aboard are passive, now isn’t the time to be idle. Now is the time for action.

Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate
With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode.

All Moirans are forced to make a decision: stay and be shut inside an unfamiliar ship with the remaining Caducans who are still out for blood or make an attempt to flee to the emergency escape units on that ship with the other Caducans who have used them to head straight for the Moira.
Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option.

Step 3: ???? & Step 4: Profit
In the aftermath of the fight, the Moira is in a state of devastation. Bodies of the Caducans as well as some of the Moira’s own crew can be found in the hallways. Those who were stuck aboard the Caducan ship have either been rescued or rescue attempts are underway. This is the time to recover, to calculate what has been lost and come together as the crew the Captains have wanted since the Ingress had brought them aboard. Any and all Medbay personnel will be at the crew’s disposal, though the Captains will be focusing their attention on the Ingress room and what has become of it after having thrown so many people inside it.

The Ingress technology is broken. Various events on planets and on the ship have shown that fixing it is near impossible, and that it is entirely unpredictable in nature. The Moira’s Ingress had recently turned off, sending the ship into a slight freefall before it restored and righted itself. Hours after sending the remaining Caducan crew members through the Ingress, the swirling blue light goes still and emits a pulse that ripples out in waves as far out around the ship as a few miles. For one lingering breath, it’s impossible to move, a near blinding light surrounding every crew member. The rush of wind is the only sound that can be heard. Moments later, every Moiran, even those that were on the Caducan ship, are now in the same place. The Ingress has malfunctioned, causing time and space to overlap—the two ships have twisted together into something unseemly and new.
Shattered & Swept Aside
Parts of the Moira have ceased to exist. Areas of the ship have become crystalline and transparent. There are rooms that were never there before. The Mess Hall is gone, replaced by a single empty room devoid of all furniture. The tree at the center of the garden is still there exactly as it was except it is now made of glass. The floors are a jarred mess of glass and steel, and there is broken glass littering the ship. The air filtration systems are going into overdrive to clear out the miniscule particles floating everywhere. So, sometimes, too deep a breath may end with inhaling shards of glass. The clothing you’re wearing might have turned to glass, doors are sealed shut, and it’s hard to discern where the Moira starts and the Caducan ship ends.

Everyone has only one job: be careful of the glass.
We Break Fast, We Are Glass
The crystalline glass that is woven into the ship is now possibly a part of the crew. The transition from skin to glass might be painful or feel as if it’s always been that way. Hair has turned to glass, and arms, eyes, patches of skin or entire bodies are now transparent and reflect light. Joints may be stiff, or flex and move as good as they did before. If a crystalline hand is smashed against a wall it might break, or dent steel. For those who need medical attention, all staff have been summoned to the Medbay once more to help their fellow crew. Prosthetics and coverings will be made and offered to ensure that the glass doesn’t get broken or to prevent further breakage. Crew may assist each other in finding a way to remove the glass, or leave it as it is until a permanent solution can be found.

( ooc; When it comes to barracks, each player can decide if their room has ceased to exist for the event or not. Characters that have roommates need to decide together what they’d prefer. The amount of glass that a character has turned to is up to the player, as well as if it is painful or uncomfortable in any way. For questions, please go here. ☄ c. it's a hard knock life
[Niko's in complete agreement. He's not even had a chance to clean up. Hell, he doesn't even know if the showers are still working. He's just helping get stuff out of the way.]

[And honestly he's humiliated. He tried. As he once told Bulgarin, "I didn't fuck up, I did my best." Though the circumstances relating to that were infinitely more terrible, it's just another case of Niko Bellic, trained at failing even the best intentions.]

[He hears that body fall before he sees it. Can pick out the familiar thud even over the crackle of debris, and when he looks over that suspicion of what the sound belonged to is dismally confirmed. He strides over, grabs the body by its uniform, scowling.] No fucking code of honor is worth attacking kids over.
knaval: (ruining the play)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-02 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[riptide doesn't immediately respond. he knows the concept of human children is different to what a cybertronian child could be - in a way, mtos being sent into battle at barely a day old was no better than all this, and that was autobot high command.

thanks, prowl.

he shakes his head.]

They broke it, and now they're extinct. Not the best way for the universe to remember their race.
vengeance_driven: pb (►►distant)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
They're not extinct yet. [He grunts as he moves a body.] As far as I know.

These are the citizens of a sister planet. I don't know if it is another of their worlds, or if it is a place where they all settled, but I know there were survivors and some of them were on that ship.

Not everyone here was responsible. They attacked us because of this ship. Because of this fucking uniform.

[He drags the body over to where he can start wrapping it up in a wayward blanket. Better than nothing.]
knaval: (just the shoreline)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-03 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I got the impression there wasn't much left. If they were part of a bigger system there probably would've been more than one warship after us.

[riptide's seen fleets from both the decepticons and the black block consortia. not fun.

he just moves out niko's way, moving any other debris too. he's too big to move the body without breaking it.]

Associating it with a bad thing and assuming all who wear it are monsters. Sounds familiar.
vengeance_driven: pb (►►p hunt5)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
It was like this at home, too.

[He makes sure the face is covered.] Megatron has told me some of what happened to your people. In my country, there were three major types. The Serbs, the Bosniaks, the Croats. They've been at odds for a long time. But things got bad during a thing called World War II.

[He stands up, brushing off his hands. Yeah, exposition time, but he feels better saying it. Because then, maybe Riptide will understand.]

The Ustashe were a group of Croats that killed off Serbs, my people, in the most cruel ways. As bad as your Grindcore. Then a man that was half Croat, half Bosniak, he saved our country from the war. United us all. He force peace with a strict hand, but for the Serbs? They never had things made up to them in full. This left them angry.

When the leader died, he left no one to replace him. And everyone angry for what happened a long time ago sent the young people to fight and fucking kill each other off, even if we didn't have anything to do with it.

Whatever is the case. People left, all of them gone, it is all a waste and for stupid asshole reasons. There is no pride or honor in any of this.

[And he'd known that, in the end, they'd ruin the opposite side. He just didn't expect the Ingress to have a fucking spasm. He should have, though. Considering the last Ingress they met, and how things went horribly.]
knaval: (just the shoreline)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
[riptide listens, cocking his head. he winces when niko mentions grindcore, comparing the war to it. riptide had never really thought of humans as all that dangerous, and it's only really now he's truly starting to realise that they're just like cybertronians - that they do horrific things to each other for reasons that may not even make sense.]

And... you were one of those young humans? [he shakes his head.] I was like that too. I wasn't even alive when the war started - I was... I'm something called an MTO. Made To Order. They build us and sent us out to fight for them before we were even a day old.

[he rests his chin on his hand.]

I was made in Simanzi, which was a big one. My - and everyone else's - projected life span was... three minutes?

[it's depressing how similar this all is, though this isn't a pissing contest about Who's Life Was Sadder; riptide just can't believe humans have the same sort of systems for war. their life spans are already so short...]

I'm sorry you had to go through that. People in power can be real bastards when they don't care about those under their care, if you can even call it that.
vengeance_driven: game (►►handtomouth)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-03 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but you're one of the friendliest guys I know. So I guess you can pretty much do whatever you want with it. [Niko wonders if he can. Now he's wondering if all he's good at is killing. He doesn't want to say that out loud though. Not at the moment. Not with all of this, because so many of them had to kill.]

[Besides, it's no contest. Everything sucks here. But having the understanding is nice; even if this shouldn't be normal, it helps to have people that grew up with it, that makes it feel less isolating. That's what he thinks of when he shares stories.]

[Perhaps he says more about his past than other people, but it's to make it normal to his own ears. Tragic, but normal. It's nothing anyone can wound him with; the damage was done long ago.]

[He strides over and pats his leg.] I think high horses stop seeing people as people, and only as a point they have to make. But like I say, you're good people.
knaval: (there might be)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-03 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I mean, for what it's worth I don't think you're a bad guy either.

[honestly, sometimes riptide struggles to comprehend anything that isn't fighting. it still happens, and he expects it to continue happening for the rest of his life. everything is just the quiet in between the fighting. it'll never stop and he'll never be anything other than cannon fodder.

he shakes the line of thought off when niko pats his leg.]

That's every war, though, isn't it? A point that a few people want to make, and they bring the kids into it and they don't even know what the point is, but die for it anyway.
vengeance_driven: game (►►skeptical 2)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-03 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Being delegated to cannon fodder is bad enough, accepting that you're cannon fodder as well, but also accepting it with the knowledge that you have the capacity to be a decent human being but the functionality of one has been stolen from you?]

[The end result is two sad men moving around dead bodies on the Moira and reminiscing about how much they hate war even though they're both fine tuned for the thing they despise. Cannon fodder that would much rather go have fun with friends or do normal work than have to kill people.]

Yeah. It fucks you up, too. Living with all this anger that someone else gives you, and then making up your own anger.

[He goes over to the remains of rubble to look for any more dead.]

All of the friends I fought with are dead. [Save for Florian and Darko, but Florian gave up his life for a new identity. Darko... Darko shouldn't be mentioned as existing.] They were all thrown into mass graves. And something like that is going to happen to these stupid assholes. Die for a cause that doesn't even matter and then they're thrown into a fucking pit, or space, or melted, or whatever the fuck we're going to do that doesn't involve gravestones.
knaval: (all eyes turned in)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-03 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[what niko says gives riptide a very unpleasant reminder of the mass graves in simanzi. he hadn't really thought far enough ahead about what they were going to do with all the bodies and a shudder ripples through his frame.]

...Guess it's going to look pretty sick if we show up on a planet with a bunch of bodies to bury.
vengeance_driven: game (►►talking by docks)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-03 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't think cryo tubes will work for this, and we probably shouldn't put them in the cargo bay.

You know what the stupidest fucking part of this is? The part I didn't get to explaining to them because they started attacking? There's still probably a Cadacus Primary out there in some other universe.

What if we had some of their people? What then? You know we had a survivor as crew for a little bit. Would they have killed her, too?

I found a fucking glass arm. [He holds it up.] Hope this is not one of ours. [Then, after kicking over a piece of paneling.] Nope, is theirs.
knaval: (and see)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-03 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
They probably would've assumed we abducted her and were holding her hostage. What happened to her?

[he watches niko handle the arm, optics shifting.]

Did you get... uh, glassed? [a gesture to the transparent helm decorations on his head.] I guess this was their last frag you to us, even if it wasn't intended, huh?
vengeance_driven: game (►►banter)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-03 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You want to know something funny? I went over there ready to die if shit got bad. [That's not funny, Niko.] But then I got angry when they turned on us.

And you know what? Barely even a scratch on me. No glass. Hardly any injuries.

[He realizes he's been gesturing with someone else's arm, so he tucks it into the uniform of this victim and starts dragging them out of the rubble.]

Think they'll be able to protect that?
knaval: (cutting a rug here)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-04 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's a real glitch. When you come out spotless and your friends... don't.

[riptide shakes his head.]

Could anyone? I think we've crossed a real line, here. There's no going back for this crew after what happened.
vengeance_driven: game (►►the cousins bellic3)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-05 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
I mean your head. They mentioned helping people out, but it's gotta be twice as hard for you guys. [He gestures up at Riptide's new glasware.]

But you're right. We're pretty much fucked, and they fucked us.

We go to a different planet? Were the people that killed a whole world, a whole ship. We're the people that were around another Ingress dying and the ones that triggered a planetary uprising.

And for what? They didn't do Cadacus Primary any favors with this.
knaval: (all eyes turned in)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-05 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I don't know. Even if it breaks they're nothing vital.

[he shrugs, then turns away to move some more debris. there's a leg in the way. riptide can't see the body.]

Cybertronians were blacklisted from most of the galaxy after our war so it's just business as usual for us, I suppose. We just need to make sure we don't land on a planet where they'll want to indiscriminately kill us all.
vengeance_driven: game (►►easy fare 2)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-05 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
[At least there's that. A lot of people did end up with vital parts changed. Riptide will just look a little... he doesn't know the word. Is there a Cybertronian version of a terrible haircut?]

[The important question as one picks up dead bodies.]

Man I know about bad reps, but that is a pretty terrible one. No offence. Like I say, you're a good guy. It is sad to think people can't even meet you because of what others of your kind did.
knaval: (just the shoreline)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-05 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. That's how it always is though, isn't it? Other people screw everything for the people that come after them.

[the most important. riptide turns a body over with his finger.]

Like I said, all we can do is hope no-one else is out to get us. What if they had allies that were just late to the party?
vengeance_driven: game (►►w roman)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
They probably do. [He rubs his temple.]

At this point, I am pretty sure this ship is only bad news. When it was found it was already a graveyard, a coffin in space.

And we have not been able to balance our karma as much as we should.

[But Riptide has way more experience in this. Niko's own experience with "allies" has been with Earth war and organized crime. And while space hasn't been so different, Riptide's already lived through this actual pitiful scenario.]
knaval: (to wave bye)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-07 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It... what? Have the captains told you how they came about the ship?

[that's so weird, but also:] What's karma?
vengeance_driven: game (►►search and delete 1)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-07 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Karma is the idea that what you give the world, the world will give back. If you are a shitty person, your actions will eventually revisit you in shitty ways.

Unfortunately, I find that karma doesn't always work fast enough for a lot of assholes. The karma of our actions in the past have caused a lot of hurt.

The captains found this ship. They were not captains before this. The vessel was empty. Did you hear about the creatures that sucked energy from people? They were wearing ship's uniforms. When the Captains landed on Cadacus Primary, they did not know what they were doing.
knaval: (all eyes turned in)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-09 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
That's... ridiculous. For lack of a better word.

[horrendous.]

I don't think that exists... no offence, but good things happen to bad people all the time.
vengeance_driven: pb, ushanka (►►tycoon27)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-09 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, in concept it has sense. If you fill the world around you with bad shit then the world is going to have more bad shit in it and make your life harder.

But no, good things do happen to bad people and vice versa all the time. And the bad? ...Well, those too. But many have enough good things so they do not care.
knaval: (but i don't want to look)

[personal profile] knaval 2016-07-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah...

[riptide reaches out and pokes some blood-spattered debris.]

That's people like Tarn.
vengeance_driven: game, car (►►looking cranky)

[personal profile] vengeance_driven 2016-07-09 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tarn raises a lot of questions. His obvious abandonment issues. His penchant for cruelty. The type of guy any species should avoid except that they're stuck on the same ship, and in that he requires interest.]

I wonder if any of him got made of glass.

[It would be sort of fitting. To find himself with parts not his own, the same as so many organics on board. A malady he gets to share with them.]
