"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |

[Niko's in complete agreement. He's not even had a chance to clean up. Hell, he doesn't even know if the showers are still working. He's just helping get stuff out of the way.]
[And honestly he's humiliated. He tried. As he once told Bulgarin, "I didn't fuck up, I did my best." Though the circumstances relating to that were infinitely more terrible, it's just another case of Niko Bellic, trained at failing even the best intentions.]
[He hears that body fall before he sees it. Can pick out the familiar thud even over the crackle of debris, and when he looks over that suspicion of what the sound belonged to is dismally confirmed. He strides over, grabs the body by its uniform, scowling.] No fucking code of honor is worth attacking kids over.
no subject
thanks, prowl.
he shakes his head.]
They broke it, and now they're extinct. Not the best way for the universe to remember their race.
no subject
These are the citizens of a sister planet. I don't know if it is another of their worlds, or if it is a place where they all settled, but I know there were survivors and some of them were on that ship.
Not everyone here was responsible. They attacked us because of this ship. Because of this fucking uniform.
[He drags the body over to where he can start wrapping it up in a wayward blanket. Better than nothing.]
no subject
[riptide's seen fleets from both the decepticons and the black block consortia. not fun.
he just moves out niko's way, moving any other debris too. he's too big to move the body without breaking it.]
Associating it with a bad thing and assuming all who wear it are monsters. Sounds familiar.
no subject
[He makes sure the face is covered.] Megatron has told me some of what happened to your people. In my country, there were three major types. The Serbs, the Bosniaks, the Croats. They've been at odds for a long time. But things got bad during a thing called World War II.
[He stands up, brushing off his hands. Yeah, exposition time, but he feels better saying it. Because then, maybe Riptide will understand.]
The Ustashe were a group of Croats that killed off Serbs, my people, in the most cruel ways. As bad as your Grindcore. Then a man that was half Croat, half Bosniak, he saved our country from the war. United us all. He force peace with a strict hand, but for the Serbs? They never had things made up to them in full. This left them angry.
When the leader died, he left no one to replace him. And everyone angry for what happened a long time ago sent the young people to fight and fucking kill each other off, even if we didn't have anything to do with it.
Whatever is the case. People left, all of them gone, it is all a waste and for stupid asshole reasons. There is no pride or honor in any of this.
[And he'd known that, in the end, they'd ruin the opposite side. He just didn't expect the Ingress to have a fucking spasm. He should have, though. Considering the last Ingress they met, and how things went horribly.]
no subject
And... you were one of those young humans? [he shakes his head.] I was like that too. I wasn't even alive when the war started - I was... I'm something called an MTO. Made To Order. They build us and sent us out to fight for them before we were even a day old.
[he rests his chin on his hand.]
I was made in Simanzi, which was a big one. My - and everyone else's - projected life span was... three minutes?
[it's depressing how similar this all is, though this isn't a pissing contest about Who's Life Was Sadder; riptide just can't believe humans have the same sort of systems for war. their life spans are already so short...]
I'm sorry you had to go through that. People in power can be real bastards when they don't care about those under their care, if you can even call it that.
no subject
[Besides, it's no contest. Everything sucks here. But having the understanding is nice; even if this shouldn't be normal, it helps to have people that grew up with it, that makes it feel less isolating. That's what he thinks of when he shares stories.]
[Perhaps he says more about his past than other people, but it's to make it normal to his own ears. Tragic, but normal. It's nothing anyone can wound him with; the damage was done long ago.]
[He strides over and pats his leg.] I think high horses stop seeing people as people, and only as a point they have to make. But like I say, you're good people.
no subject
[honestly, sometimes riptide struggles to comprehend anything that isn't fighting. it still happens, and he expects it to continue happening for the rest of his life. everything is just the quiet in between the fighting. it'll never stop and he'll never be anything other than cannon fodder.
he shakes the line of thought off when niko pats his leg.]
That's every war, though, isn't it? A point that a few people want to make, and they bring the kids into it and they don't even know what the point is, but die for it anyway.
no subject
[The end result is two sad men moving around dead bodies on the Moira and reminiscing about how much they hate war even though they're both fine tuned for the thing they despise. Cannon fodder that would much rather go have fun with friends or do normal work than have to kill people.]
Yeah. It fucks you up, too. Living with all this anger that someone else gives you, and then making up your own anger.
[He goes over to the remains of rubble to look for any more dead.]
All of the friends I fought with are dead. [Save for Florian and Darko, but Florian gave up his life for a new identity. Darko... Darko shouldn't be mentioned as existing.] They were all thrown into mass graves. And something like that is going to happen to these stupid assholes. Die for a cause that doesn't even matter and then they're thrown into a fucking pit, or space, or melted, or whatever the fuck we're going to do that doesn't involve gravestones.
no subject
...Guess it's going to look pretty sick if we show up on a planet with a bunch of bodies to bury.
no subject
You know what the stupidest fucking part of this is? The part I didn't get to explaining to them because they started attacking? There's still probably a Cadacus Primary out there in some other universe.
What if we had some of their people? What then? You know we had a survivor as crew for a little bit. Would they have killed her, too?
I found a fucking glass arm. [He holds it up.] Hope this is not one of ours. [Then, after kicking over a piece of paneling.] Nope, is theirs.
no subject
[he watches niko handle the arm, optics shifting.]
Did you get... uh, glassed? [a gesture to the transparent helm decorations on his head.] I guess this was their last frag you to us, even if it wasn't intended, huh?
no subject
And you know what? Barely even a scratch on me. No glass. Hardly any injuries.
[He realizes he's been gesturing with someone else's arm, so he tucks it into the uniform of this victim and starts dragging them out of the rubble.]
Think they'll be able to protect that?
no subject
[riptide shakes his head.]
Could anyone? I think we've crossed a real line, here. There's no going back for this crew after what happened.
no subject
But you're right. We're pretty much fucked, and they fucked us.
We go to a different planet? Were the people that killed a whole world, a whole ship. We're the people that were around another Ingress dying and the ones that triggered a planetary uprising.
And for what? They didn't do Cadacus Primary any favors with this.
no subject
[he shrugs, then turns away to move some more debris. there's a leg in the way. riptide can't see the body.]
Cybertronians were blacklisted from most of the galaxy after our war so it's just business as usual for us, I suppose. We just need to make sure we don't land on a planet where they'll want to indiscriminately kill us all.
no subject
[The important question as one picks up dead bodies.]
Man I know about bad reps, but that is a pretty terrible one. No offence. Like I say, you're a good guy. It is sad to think people can't even meet you because of what others of your kind did.
no subject
[the most important. riptide turns a body over with his finger.]
Like I said, all we can do is hope no-one else is out to get us. What if they had allies that were just late to the party?
no subject
At this point, I am pretty sure this ship is only bad news. When it was found it was already a graveyard, a coffin in space.
And we have not been able to balance our karma as much as we should.
[But Riptide has way more experience in this. Niko's own experience with "allies" has been with Earth war and organized crime. And while space hasn't been so different, Riptide's already lived through this actual pitiful scenario.]
no subject
[that's so weird, but also:] What's karma?
no subject
Unfortunately, I find that karma doesn't always work fast enough for a lot of assholes. The karma of our actions in the past have caused a lot of hurt.
The captains found this ship. They were not captains before this. The vessel was empty. Did you hear about the creatures that sucked energy from people? They were wearing ship's uniforms. When the Captains landed on Cadacus Primary, they did not know what they were doing.
no subject
[horrendous.]
I don't think that exists... no offence, but good things happen to bad people all the time.
no subject
But no, good things do happen to bad people and vice versa all the time. And the bad? ...Well, those too. But many have enough good things so they do not care.
no subject
[riptide reaches out and pokes some blood-spattered debris.]
That's people like Tarn.
no subject
I wonder if any of him got made of glass.
[It would be sort of fitting. To find himself with parts not his own, the same as so many organics on board. A malady he gets to share with them.]
