Agent Washington | ota
[ While he's still undecided on whether he really feels better off here than at home, Wash still takes part in his job without any fuss. Largely because without something to do, he'll go stir crazy. Time off isn't his thing. He hasn't had time off in years, so he's fine with taking an extra shift guarding the Ingress.
Standing right outside the room that holds the portal, he's dressed in his full suit of power armour with his battle rifle in hand, though he holds it idly. Seems pretty unlikely that he'll ever actually need to use it on the job, but still. He'd rather be prepared.
Mostly, he'll just be silently watching people pass by in the halls without saying anything, though they're free to try conversation with him if they really want to. As for anyone who comes out of the Ingress and leaves the room, he'll definitely turn his head to get a look at them but again, isn't likely to initiate conversation. However, if they start speaking, he'll probably be kind enough to point them in the direction of the captains. ]
b. ASH3; B.E.A.C.H more like B.A.R
[ Mostly, Wash has been sticking to the ship through this entire stop. Vacationing is not something you're necessarily comfortable with when you've spend the last few years almost constantly working. However, he does slip away from the Moira every once in a while to go down to the boardwalk. The first couple of times, he's in his ship uniform because it's either that or his armour, and he's not looking to stand out. After he goes shopping for some practical items, however, he can be found in casual, if boring, civilian clothing.
The only thing he comes down to the boardwalk for is the bars. That's where he can be found on the evenings/nights he does come down by the beach. Always sitting at the bar, usually in the same seat if it's free when he shows up, simply there with a drink while he looks to be brooding silently. He doesn't want to make a habit of drinking, but it's at least good for dulling things here and there. And he's got a lot he wouldn't mind dulling.
He's not likely to initiate conversation, though he might toss a critical look your way, or even a simple bored look. Wash is not terribly social anymore. ]
c. BF3; shut up, so what if i'm buying cat things
[ It takes a while for Wash to convince himself to leave the ship to go to BF3 for some shopping. If they were allowed to pick up weapons, he would have been down there much more quickly but, as it stands, he's far more hesitant about it.
There's one time he goes down briefly, figuring that some casual clothing would be good to have around the ship; clothes for training and exercise, for general comfort while not working, for sleeping in, and maybe even a bathing suit so he can actually make use of the rec room's pool. So he stalked up a little, though not excessively so.
The second time he goes down, however, he's inspired after playing with his cats. They don't really have all that much to keep them entertained when no one is in the room and he's been wanting to change that--this is kind of the perfect opportunity.
This is why now, he can be found wandering around some speciality shop he came across that focuses on the sale of items for cats. And he may or may not have a basket full of all kinds of things already. Scratchboards, toys, nice little food and water dishes, even a couple of plush cat beds, even though he's sure all three could fit in one, since they're bonsai cats.
Yes, this is a grown man, a hardened, bitter soldier, shopping around in a store that almost seems to be meant specifically for cat ladies. Those really obsessive ones. And he's regarding everything he looks at very seriously as he determines whether or not it's something he should get for his three teeny tiny cats. ]
BF3
Naturally, this leads to her running into somebody from the ship who clearly does have cats. More specifically, an adult man--the type who reeks of hardened veteran, carefully choosing the cutest, most precious cat items like some grandma.
She huffs, shaking her head. It makes no sense.]
What are you doing?
no subject
He can feel that judgement coming off of her in waves. ]
What does it look like?
[ Buying things for his cats, duh. What else would he be doing in some cat speciality store? If the captains are going to give them unlimited money to waste, he might as well pick up some of the things they need and a few extra things that they don't just to make them more comfortable. ]
Shouldn't you, I don't know, be on the beach, or something? Buying clothes? Whatever it is teenagers do?
[ He's not going to let some huffy teenager come in here and criticize him for getting some cat stuff, if that's what she thinks she's doing here. Wash is Unimpressed. ]
no subject
[She raises an eyebrow. Kyoko almost considers ignoring the second set of questions, but that seems inappropriate. It was, after all, what truly defined him for her.
Really. How could anyone under sixty not be embarrassed to act like teenagers were some sort of unfathomable endangered species?]
Oh, and talking about how kids were back your day's not the right answer either.
no subject
[ There's a difference there. It's not like he's picked up any more since he got the first three in his first month on the ship. So it's not collecting!
Still, she manages to pull an irritated and maybe somewhat offended huff out of him. He might kind of look it, but he's definitely not old. --And he doesn't even look that old!! Just...older than he really is, is all. ]
Yeah, because that's exactly what I was doing. [ He barely manages to avoid rolling his eyes. ] Excuse me for assuming that, given we're all from different universes, teenagers have different hobbies in some of them.
[ Also he barely remembers being a teenager at this point, he's been in the military so long, but she doesn't need to know that. ]
no subject
Right, like how the hobbies of old guys varies from universe to universe.
[She folds her hands over her chest. It sounds ridiculous. He'd probably get all huffy if she was saying something similar.]
Lemme guess. You don't get out much and don't have any friends, except for the cats and maybe a couple of weirdos.
[Not that she has any friends to speak of, but that's out of necessity as much as choice. If she wanted to, she could certainly change it anytime.]
no subject
BARRRR!
Washington, [his voice is warm. Not flirty for the time being, but warm.] I see you've recovered from your stay in the cryo. How are you doing?
yessss bring on all the sexy space bird company
Does the whole ship know about that?
[ It's part rhetorical question, part actually a question about the ship knowing about the events prior to his time in cryo. There's a long exhale, and Wash doesn't match Nihlus' warm tone, instead meets it with something more brusque. ]
I'm fine. Not the first time I've been in cryo.
no subject
There was something odd about this interaction, the feeling of something being... different from before. It's the same feeling he'd gotten when he'd first interacted with Shepard's clone, but it didn't feel exactly like he was meeting whole other person.
What WAS different though, he couldn't pinpoint just yet. After all, Wash could just be grumpy from the cryo.]
Rinzler asked for assistance on the Network when you were incapacitated by something in the Amissis-Re's Ingress. It was a public broadcast.
[He waves the bartender over and orders a drink, watching Wash.]
You've been in cryo before?
no subject
So much for that. People at least know something happened. ]
He did, huh.
[ That's about all he's got to say to that, just adding a curt nod. ]
Cryo's a pretty common thing when you're travelling a long distance through space where I'm from. But I've been in cryo here once before, too. Longer than I was this time.
no subject
[It was... kind of a defense for Rinzler. With the tone Wash was using, he suspects something more direct wouldn't go down too well.]
I was curious because the cryo tech here is apparently very... peculiar. One of my friends had gone into cryo so that they could change her chirality.
[Nihlus looks up briefly to thank the barkeeper when the drink is set down in front of him. It's a cheerful, minty green-blue color with a translucent slice of an alien fruit hanging off the rim.]
She can eat levo-protein food now. I didn't think something like that was even possible.

c
Shopping for the little ones, eh? So I see you decided to adopt a few after all.
no subject
[ Not really expecting anyone else from the ship to be around here, much less approach him, Wash blinks and glances up from the series of elaborate cat trees he's been wondering about fitting in his room and how much one would annoy Snake. Miles isn't really who he would have expected to see, even if he had figured someone would strike up a conversation. ]
...Something like that. [ It was months ago, Miles. ] But yeah, I did.
[ No explanation of how many he'd adopted. Nothing to keep the conversation interesting or even all that friendly. All he does after he answers is look Miles over briefly and quirk an eyebrow. ]
You too?
no subject
Not me. Ivan. He took up two of the little beasts, and they both think my face is the designated cat bed.
no subject
Yeah, they'll get into that habit if you let them. [ And he's got the feeling Miles has let it go on too long. ] Don't know that getting them their own bed will make much of a difference.
[ That...counts as advice, right? Or something? ]
no subject
[ he rolls his eyes. ivan. ]
How many d'you have? That's...an awful lot of cat gear there.
