I've been told I'm an odd one, if that provides any comfort.
[Still he laughs a little and shakes his head.] This is all incredibly advanced compared to home, unfortunately. I'm a little behind when it comes to the times. [Being taken from 1792 and then out of another medieval world does that to you.] I don't honestly even know where to start, even if I were to ask.

[ The unrelenting progress of science isn't always a good thing. Alva's experienced the result of it firsthand; maybe going back to the basics is the better thing to do. Going back, rather than forward.
Plus you never know when you'd have to amputate in the cold and harsh wilderness of some planet. Familiarity with mechanical operations won't help too much against a multitude of trees. ]
You have to start somewhere to get anywhere, my mother always said.
tmw you realize your character didn't introduce themselves in return SWEATS....
You wouldn't happen to know how to explain it to someone who's from 1792, would you? Technical terms and all that. [A pause.] The last time someone tried to explain a car and a train to me, we spent far too long trying to have me understand what the simple processes were.
[He sighs.] As for my name, I'm Arno. Arno Dorian. [He turns back to the monitor and raises a brow at it.] This actually helps people?
when you design posters for a living, then try explaining med equipment
[ Alva even comes forward to tap on the display panel. ]
The machine writes out the information here, using sequences of smaller machines inside it. It can't operate without a power source, though. [ he points to the battery back installed to the monitor; look, no cables. ] This one has a replaceable power source, so we just have to keep track of that if we're using the machine.
Did all of that make sense?
oh lord I feel this
[Alva's explanation sounds easy enough, and Arno's eyes shift from where the monitor's tracking starts to where the battery is pointed out. He barely knows much beyond simple first aid, but this thing in front of him sounds incredible, and almost impossible to even achieve beyond a simple touch to someone's wrist.]
And it can tell all of this, even when the patient looks fine? [He'd always asked the brothers and sisters of the Order if they felt well on a mission or if they needed assistance- this goes into something so much greater and so much more important.] I don't think I could ever imagine this being made in my time. It seems almost impossible as it is now.
[He sighs.] Unfortunately the great advances we have in medicine for myself are rather limited, compared to what's here. Paris is a great place of discovery, but not exactly the best location when you're in the middle of a revolution.
