"We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once."

Nathan Drake | Uncharted + CRAU
[Lacking a big, public map to look at (and the tech inclination to check his MID), Nate's exploring. He stops by room 12 on Mero deck to drop off his new uniforms and the gunblade he's had holstered on his belt, but really, any place is a good place to stop and add to a rough map for himself in a small notebook and/or poke irritably at a small device on a lanyard around his neck.]
Get me out of here already! [Yup, he's talking to the gadget.] 'Experimental' piece of crap.
[... except for the observation deck, where trying to make his Junction Device work pales in importance at the sight of that great black beyond. Letting it dangle, Nate presses his face and hands against the window in awe.]
Holy crap.
[If there's someone nearby, he'll nudge them.] Hey - pinch me.
[It's not like he knows how the multiversal travel function of his Junction Device works, only which buttons to press to use it, and that none of these buttons are getting a response. So when Nate stumbles across the science department, he figures if anyone could help fix this thing, it's science people. It was, after all, Esthar's science department that figured out how to harness time compression, and Garden's scientists that worked with them to figure out a way to travel through it.
[Device in hand instead of around his neck on a lanyard, Nate knocks on the door.]
Uh... Hello?
[If he's not answered for a while, he'll simply put the lanyard back on, take a journal and pencil out of his back pocket, and start sketching.]
[Getting shot more in the future isn't particularly surprising, given both the trail he was going down with Sam and a lot of missions SeeD gets; this shot stinging is the interesting part that he'd now also like to avoid.
[He can't do anything but shrug in bewilderment at the question.]
Time's pretty messed up already, especially if you don't remember Garden. I don't think you telling me is going to hurt anything.
[Beat.]
Although I really don't need to hear twenty years all at once.
continued!
Yeah, good point. And I wouldn't give you the full twenty all at once, anyway. Most of it's less exciting than you'd expect.
[He pauses as one particular highlight comes to mind, considering how his kid self just identified him.]
I'll say this much upfront—when you meet a guy named Harry Flynn, if for some reason you can remember this conversation, kick him in the balls. Really hard.
no subject
Just kick him? Because I could cut 'em off if you want.
[He taps his fingers on the hilt of his gunblade, the only part revealed by that long and pointy-looking holster on his belt.
[Despite the tone, this is not a(n entirely) serious suggestion.]
no subject
[He gives the kid (Is that how he's going to think of him? Guess so, Sully would be amused) an incredulous look, not thinking he's definitely serious but not certain he isn't.]
No, a swift ballkick will do it. he ends up getting shot by someone else and then blowing himself up with a grenade, so it's not like he doesn't get what's coming to him.
[He glances around them. A couple people are giving them curious looks.] Look, you wanna go for a walk or something, lose the audience?
no subject
[They head off down a hallway, and he waits until they're out of range before explaining more:] It was, uh, a mercenary school, technically. ['Technically' because he's pretty sure saving the world for free doesn't really count as merc work any more, and Garden's now done that twice.] Except the missions could be anything from scientific surveys to security detail at a parade, so they taught a bit of everything. I did more magic classes than weaponry, especially because my instructor didn't really get gunblades. And she didn't actually teach us how to cut someone's balls off.
[YOU KNOW, JUST FOR THE RECORD.]
I was specializing in undercover work - thought it'd be useful for travel and some of the theft work Sam gets.

It's some days after her surgery and the best medicine for recovery is walking, at least that seems to be the case where Adrien's instructions are. Laying in bed to the road of recovery would get her nowhere. Half a painkiller and she's on her feet, the Stark Heat Wrap secured around her torso under her shirt for maximum comfort.
She can't remember the last time she was up on the deck. Likely when she had to help a drunken Nate off the floor and help him back to his room after the emotional mess he'd apparently made over the network about their marital problems. ]
So... Why am I pinching you? That's what you said, isn't it?
[ Unless she'd misheard on the way in. Eh. Either way. She hugs her sweater closer around herself, looking out into the void. ]
no subject
Checking I'm not dreaming.
[He peels away from the window, waving a hand at it. Elena may recognize the silver ring he's wearing on a lanyard.]
I can't believe I'm in space. Wasn't where I was trying to go, but it's awesome.
no subject
[ Her gaze does in fact catch on the silver ring but she doesn't comment on it, not yet. She looks back at him with a small smile of encouragement. ]
You just get in?
no subject
[He's had just enough time to ditch the gunblade and uniforms and put on the plain uniform work boots.]
How long have you been here?
[But he's had enough time elsewhere to know that the people asking if you're new have been around long enough to tell.]

[There. You have now been pinched by a 14 year old pale girl. How does that make you feel?]
If it helps? If this were a dream, there would be something that symbolizes dongs floating around here somewhere. According to my in-depth research, of course.
[Read: wikipedia.]
no subject
Definitely not your dreams that you think everyone else has.

Well, I suppose it could be flying, instead, but I'm pretty sure flying also substitutes in for... you see where this is going. My pet theory is that Freud had a few issues to work out with his mother.

[He took a psychology class at Garden, but it was easily the most disrupted term of his time there, and being another world, they referenced other names and theories.
Pause.]
So are we the only teenagers here? Because you're the first one I've seen.

Plus she loves the trick of giving people a little electric shock. It's always good for a laugh.]
I regret to inform you that you're going to realize that you're really here. The view is more of a nice veneer for the whole thing.

poutfrown at the woman.]Whoa, hey, unjunction Thunder before you pinch people.
[It's closer to a mild reminder than a reprimand.]
no subject
[Ohhh he's pouting. It's just like Carver. Precious. She grins and then shakes her head.]
Unjunction my... what? Are you old enough to be talking about those things?

... Did you just knock on the door to the science department?
no subject
Yeah... Thought you weren't supposed to barge into science labs in case they're doing something dangerous.
[Unless the dangerous thing's what you're trying to stop, but he's on no such mission here.]
no subject
[ Tony pushes away from some combination of chemicals and beakers, which looks super important and scientific, but is definitely just an experiment in service of better alcohol production. ]
So, you're obviously not lost. Looking for something?

The young voice puts both Isha and Q on alert. Q-11's ears prick in the direction of the door.]
Go check.
[And so he does, with the cock of his head. What Q sees, Isha sees, and what she sees is someone scrawny and short at the door.
Isha sweeps across the room to open the door.]
Looking for something?
[She looks very inconspicuous, what with a black prosthetic left arm covered in gold in diamonds, round sunglasses on, and a robotic greyhound eying the boy curiously.]
no subject
Yeah, I wanted to know if anyone could help me with my...
[And his "being watched" instincts, learned in the orphanages and the streets and honed by his instructors at Garden, kick in for him to notice the dog.]
Whoa, is that a... dog robot?
no subject
[The black and gold greyhound barks in affirmation. The one and only!]
And I've never seen anything like that. [She narrows her eyes at him. The facial recognition of her sunglasses starts to kick in latently. Unfortunate that it only works at a fourth of its usual power in its current state. But there is something...] You look suspiciously human, though. Earth or not Earth?

I take it you've never been in space before?
[Is he going to freak when he realizes he just nudged an alien? She's ready for that possibility. Wouldn't be the first time, around here.]
no subject
Been on another world, been on a spaceship that didn't leave atmosphere, but never in space.
[And then it clicks.
[He looks her over, making a mental note to draw her later, but by this point he's more interested in non-humans than surprised by them.
[Okay, stop staring. He holds out a hand, having noticed the gesture's relatively common between universes.]
Nathan Drake.
no subject
It's pretty great, isn't it? I've spent the better part of the last two years in space, but it's still just as cool now as it was the first time.
[When he extends his hand, she returns the gesture without pause.]
Ahsoka Tano. Welcome to the Moira, Nathan.
