the glass menagerie
"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."

After the missive from the people aboard the vessel carrying those from Caducus Secondary, the Moira is alive with preparations for defending the ship. No matter how big or small, each individual is entrusted with the responsibility of protecting themselves and their fellow crew members at all costs. With the Captains having divided them into teams to devise appropriate Plans of Action, they have decided to merge all the ideas into a singular strategy and have relayed it to the entirety of the crew via the MID. Everyone has been given a vital part to play, and although the Captains realize that some aboard are passive, now isn’t the time to be idle. Now is the time for action.

Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate
With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode.

All Moirans are forced to make a decision: stay and be shut inside an unfamiliar ship with the remaining Caducans who are still out for blood or make an attempt to flee to the emergency escape units on that ship with the other Caducans who have used them to head straight for the Moira.
Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option.

Step 3: ???? & Step 4: Profit
In the aftermath of the fight, the Moira is in a state of devastation. Bodies of the Caducans as well as some of the Moira’s own crew can be found in the hallways. Those who were stuck aboard the Caducan ship have either been rescued or rescue attempts are underway. This is the time to recover, to calculate what has been lost and come together as the crew the Captains have wanted since the Ingress had brought them aboard. Any and all Medbay personnel will be at the crew’s disposal, though the Captains will be focusing their attention on the Ingress room and what has become of it after having thrown so many people inside it.

The Ingress technology is broken. Various events on planets and on the ship have shown that fixing it is near impossible, and that it is entirely unpredictable in nature. The Moira’s Ingress had recently turned off, sending the ship into a slight freefall before it restored and righted itself. Hours after sending the remaining Caducan crew members through the Ingress, the swirling blue light goes still and emits a pulse that ripples out in waves as far out around the ship as a few miles. For one lingering breath, it’s impossible to move, a near blinding light surrounding every crew member. The rush of wind is the only sound that can be heard. Moments later, every Moiran, even those that were on the Caducan ship, are now in the same place. The Ingress has malfunctioned, causing time and space to overlap—the two ships have twisted together into something unseemly and new.
Shattered & Swept Aside
Parts of the Moira have ceased to exist. Areas of the ship have become crystalline and transparent. There are rooms that were never there before. The Mess Hall is gone, replaced by a single empty room devoid of all furniture. The tree at the center of the garden is still there exactly as it was except it is now made of glass. The floors are a jarred mess of glass and steel, and there is broken glass littering the ship. The air filtration systems are going into overdrive to clear out the miniscule particles floating everywhere. So, sometimes, too deep a breath may end with inhaling shards of glass. The clothing you’re wearing might have turned to glass, doors are sealed shut, and it’s hard to discern where the Moira starts and the Caducan ship ends.

Everyone has only one job: be careful of the glass.
We Break Fast, We Are Glass
The crystalline glass that is woven into the ship is now possibly a part of the crew. The transition from skin to glass might be painful or feel as if it’s always been that way. Hair has turned to glass, and arms, eyes, patches of skin or entire bodies are now transparent and reflect light. Joints may be stiff, or flex and move as good as they did before. If a crystalline hand is smashed against a wall it might break, or dent steel. For those who need medical attention, all staff have been summoned to the Medbay once more to help their fellow crew. Prosthetics and coverings will be made and offered to ensure that the glass doesn’t get broken or to prevent further breakage. Crew may assist each other in finding a way to remove the glass, or leave it as it is until a permanent solution can be found.

( ooc; When it comes to barracks, each player can decide if their room has ceased to exist for the event or not. Characters that have roommates need to decide together what they’d prefer. The amount of glass that a character has turned to is up to the player, as well as if it is painful or uncomfortable in any way. For questions, please go here. [ things were insane enough in the thick of it, but the ingress pulsing out like that wasn’t something even miles was expecting. he was still with daisy when that strange pulse of extradimensional energy seared through the ship, leaving glass and chaos in its wake, and while miles hadn’t failed to notice the effects on his own body, it was daisy he was most concerned with. whatever weird ingress juju was going on, it obviously didn’t play well with her powers — it seemed to overload her entirely, leaving her a cold, unconscious heap on the floor.

miles is hardly big enough to carry anyone, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to just leave her there. the little man of only 4’9 still manages to hook his arms under daisy’s and drag her all the way to the medbay, ignoring his aching back screaming in protest. he’s breathing hard by the time he manages to get daisy to the medbay, his uniform top rumpled and untucked, revealing a brief flash of glass underneath, but he’s focused entirely on daisy, who’s out cold, a thick trickle of blood running from her nose. ]

I’m fine, look — it’s her I’m worried about. Something happened when the Ingress went all…when that happened.

[ he knows that what happened with the ingress was well beyond his control, but he can’t help but feel vaguely responsible. dammit, they were supposed to have a real plan… ]

[Daisy, of course, was utterly useless the entire journey here. Things were going great, for a little while. At least until the Ingress went absolutely haywire and so did Daisy's powers. The only other time something like this happened was with the Monolith. The last thing Daisy remembered before passing out was an sudden and powerful headache when she heard a very loud pulsing sound. There was an unbelievable brightness and she heard a rush of wind and then dead silence because then her body fell to the floor, which did wonders for her shoulder and head.

Thankfully, she was unconscious because whenever she woke up she was going to be in a world of hurt. As was everyone, honestly. There was no time to just sit down and calm down. It felt like days upon days of a non stop battle.]

[ The MedBay was still getting it's feet under it in the wake of whatever had happened with the Ingress but a couple of staff members were quick to respond to Miles' arrival with Daisy. They would move to take Daisy and get her up on one of the exam tables but it was Adrien's voice that came from half way across the room. ]

You still look like you could stand to sit down for a moment. [ He said in a flat, firm tone, aimed at Miles, even as he walked towards where Daisy was now settled.

Miles might find a chair being pushed closer in invitation; or perhaps in response to the doctor's words. ]

Were you with her when she lost consciousness or did you find her this way?

I'm fine.

[ miles is panting a little as he says it, teetering slightly on his feet despite the leg braces, but he's a stubborn jackass. he tugs the hem of his uniform top down and wipes the sweat from his forehead, looking anxiously at daisy. ]

I was with her. It was the Ingress, that -- whatever it was. I think the vibrations it sent out played hell with her powers.
morethan084: (waking up)

[personal profile] morethan084 2016-07-07 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[By the time Daisy's placed on one of the beds, she's starting to wake up. Which she immediately regrets because ow. Inhaling deeply, Daisy brought a hand up to her face, her head was pounding and the moment she opened her eyes she immediately closed them again

She remembered being near Miles but after that she couldn't remember anything else. She could hear him talking to someone though, so she wasn't as panicked. Opening her eyes again, Daisy turned her head in the direction of his voice but her vision was swimming and it was hard to focus.]

Miles? What happened?

prorenataa: (Being pushed)

Yeah well be 'fine' in a chair.

[ He suggests (orders?) with a point at the chair that has now appeared. He saw the sweat and the teetering. At least Adrien's fairly certain he can peel Miles off the floor if he has too (as opposed to say a Cybertronian) but he can't tell if the man has any glass cropping up anywhere; a fall could shatter it.

He does nod in response to the information the man provides and is pulling down scanning equipment when Daisy appears to come too. Alright, she appeared to have recent memory awareness, that was good. However, it wasn't going to keep him from rudely answering the question she posed to Miles. ]

Daisy. You had an episode and are in the Medbay.

[ Miles was also more than welcome to give a response of his own ... from the chair. Doctor could be a stubborn ass as well. ]

[ sorry, adrian, miles has a lifetime of experience ignoring doctor's orders, and he's not afraid to wield it now. brushing off adrian's firm advice, miles crouches over daisy, giving her shoulder a gentle, reaffirming squeeze. ]

Something diddled the Ingress and it went all funny, sent out some kind of blast pulse. I think the vibrations must've messed with your powers something fierce, because you dropped like a sack of very fine potatoes. I managed to get you to the good doctor here, but I had to drag you. [ he gives her a rueful but still manicky smile. ] Sorry.

morethan084: (layingdown)

[personal profile] morethan084 2016-07-13 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Daisy became a bit more alert at the sound of another familiar voice.]

An episode?

[Her brain was trying to connect the words and what he meant by that, but her mind was too fuzzy right now to fully understand what he meant by that. The way Miles squeezed her shoulder, though, that got an immediate reaction out of her.

Gasping at the sudden pain, Daisy's eyes shot open in response. She half paid attention to what Miles as telling her as she reached up to try and shove his hand off of her bad shoulder.]

Did you drag me by the arm?!

[She is thankful...Just not right now because ow.]
prorenataa: (Almost innocent looking)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-07-13 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He'd made his case at Miles, if the patient continued to argue the point Adrien wasn't going to force it. He let Miles alone, watching the interaction with Daisy instead.

At the exchange, he snorted, arms crossed over his chest. ]

I did warn you it would be susceptible to future dislocation.
forwardmomentum: (and you must confess)

IM SO SORRY I KEEP MISSPELLING HIS NAME

[personal profile] forwardmomentum 2016-07-21 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ miles snatches his hand back at the first sign of pain, his own eyes widening. ]

By both arms, yes -- what was I supposed to do, drag you by your feet? I couldn't exactly carry you... [ he winces, looking supremely guilty. ]
morethan084: (pain)

[personal profile] morethan084 2016-07-21 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She's not sure if her vision was swimming from the pain shooting up through her arm, or because her head must've hit the ground. Either way she was not happy. Adrien's snort of laughter didn't help matters either.]

Well I'm glad this is so funny to you.

[She's about two seconds away from puking, and honestly? She wouldn't feel sorry if some of it ended up on Adrien. Still, she's trying not to throw up in the first place. Closing her eyes again, Daisy presses a hand against her face.]

Thanks for getting me out of there.
prorenataa: commission dnt (arms crossed disapproval)

It's alright!! It's a screwy spelling, I realized 6 months into playing him /o\

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-07-22 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hey now, it was just a snort. The doctor never laughed, just like he never smiled.

At the moment he glanced between the two, wincing in sympathy as Daisy struggled not to lose her cookies and Miles looked ... abashed? ]

In this case I have to agree with the gentleman. Dragging you by your feet would have further risked your head and a possible concussion. The arm is easier to fix; even if currently it probably feels quite unpleasant.
