"I want the world to be fragile. There is no place to hide a dark heart."
☄ Step 1: Negotiate & Infiltrate With this part of the plan enacted, a small number of those who have volunteered to attempt negotiations have been heard by the Caducans and have been temporarily “invited” to board their vessel. However, due to this highly stressful situation, a portion of the offensive team have been asked to accompany them in order to disable as much of the opposing ship and its crew to force them to evacuate onto the Moira. Regardless of time and what reparations are offered, negotiations ultimately fail. The Caducans want the debt of their planet to be paid by the people of the Moira with their very lives. While boarded with the Caducans, they will attempt to incapacitate the negotiation party through violent means, and it will be the responsibility of this particular team to attempt disengage the Caducans’ ship to prevent it from attacking the Moira. However, despite all efforts to sabotage their systems, the ship itself shuts its primary units into Lockdown Mode. Meanwhile, back on the Moira, the crew must work to secure the ship against the incoming assault by the Caducans after having left their ship via emergency escape units. This means that some of the defense team will have disabled the gunnery to make it look as if the Moira is defenseless and secure the rest of the area with those on the offense team. There is no place for mercy; the Caducans will board the ship through the Cargo Bay. They are not interested in granting it to the crew after all the losses they suffered at Caducus Primary. The only choice will be to fight for their lives (kill or be killed) or find a way to lure the Caducans into the Ingress room to send them to some unknown place where they will no longer be a threat. The Captains have given all members of the crew leave to use whatever means necessary to protect both themselves and the ship’s systems from the invaders. Failure is not an option. |

He's actually not sure where to find his roommate at first - he avoids medbay religiously, as a matter of course - but the sound of howled expletives and shattering ceramics quickly paves a convenient aural pathway. Handy.
Tony lets himself right in, and Adrien will probably be thrilled to see even more glass samples land in front of him. ]
Having fun?
[ Tony's got a barely tended-to gash above his right eye and the arc reactor is glowing far brighter than it should, but otherwise, he seems to have been spared the worst of the damage. Unlike just about everyone else. ]
no subject
He looked over at the glass and between one breath and the next, Adrien nodded and leaned back against the counter. ]
Barrel of fun. Don't know why everybody wouldn't want to do this.
[ He said in the flat tone. Because they both knew that everybody was in this together.
Glancing up, as he rammed his fingers through his short hair, Adrien peered at the gash over Tony's eye, his own eyes narrowing slightly. ]
Did you at least get that cleaned out?
no subject
[ He... thinks? (It is definitely still bleeding). But he seems to think that's sufficient answer to the question, even if it's a barely concealed "nope". Getting his forehead cleaned and stitched hadn't felt like a priority when there are cyborgs running around with entirely crushed glass limbs. ]
Got any new glass parts? I hear it's going around.
no subject
[ He pointed towards a chair and then turned to rummage through some drawers. They could call this multi-tasking? ]
No. I activated my ring when things began to go ... wonky. [ Wonky was a perfectly technical term, right? ]
Anything go glass on you?
no subject
Well. [ He considers shrugging and playing it off, but since having a doctor around might end up being useful in the very near future... ] Results pending on that.
[ He taps the little blue circle as he says it, and it doesn't even sound right. Goddammit. ]
no subject
Bottle of antiseptic in one hand and gauze in the other, he was prepared to start cleaning the hear injury when Tony tapped on the arc reactor. At first Adrien just stood there, looking confused but slowly comprehension took over and his eyebrows lifted before quickly furrowing. ]
The fuck?! Is it still functioning? [ He hunkered down on his heels, getting at arc reactor level and peering fiercely at the blue circle. Not that he could tell if it was doing anything more than ... glowing blue? ]
no subject
[ It's a small miracle, all things considered. If he had to guess, the housing and components have been glassed, but the element and the magnet itself must have survived unscathed. He can't really know until he pulls the thing out and looks at it.
That can wait. He's not dealing with that right now. ]
no subject
Rubbing his hand over his face, Adrien looked on the verge of having another explosion of temper but he took a couple of breaths and looked down at the disinfectant and gauze in his hand. ]
Lets get that head wound cleaned and dressed so you don't have to work with blood dripping in your eyes.
[ He muttered quietly as he began to work the top off the bottle.
Then, as if he couldn't allow the quiet to linger for too long, he asked. ]
Your group making any progress?
no subject
Ah, well. ]
Depends on how you define "progress". I know that life support isn't going to blink out in the next four hours, and the engines, by some miracle, are still mostly working.
[ He doesn't like admitting to being bested, but this situation is... a definite first. And it's such a huge ship. It will take weeks to assess all of the damage. ]
no subject
Good news on life support, at least for the time being. Have you been able to get a complete visual on the engines?
[ He knew the ship was large. He also knew that Tony's quick mind would have prioritized where to put their available eyes and resources first and Adrien assumed the engines would be high on that list.
Though his next question was asked in a softer tone, less ... certain. ]
Any idea about the composition of this glass?
no subject
Gimme a week of no sleep and I'll have a complete visual on the engines. [ The Moira's engines are larger than some entire spacecraft. It's amazing, but also terribly inconvenient at times like this. ] We're just lucky so many of the glassed components are still working, by some miracle of science and engineering. But there's no telling how long they'll keep working.
[ Glass taking on the workload of what had previously been steel is downright laughable, no matter how durable the glass. It's gonna keep him up at night. ]
I haven't even had time to dissect the stuff. I figured that's what you were doing.
[ He'd tip his head in the direction of the discarded samples, but Adrien's currently going to town at his forehead, so he just flicks them a meaningful glance instead. ]
no subject
Now, he just kept worked, ignoring the hiss but at the same time trying to be quick and thorough so as not to drag out the process for too long. ]
I would like to say 'but they worked on the Caducian ship'. However, I suspect the point of concern is where glass is connected to metal and the structural integrity of those joints?
[ In response to the meaningful glance and comment about dissecting the stuff, Adrien took a deep breath and released it slowly through his nose. ]
We're trying. Right now we're still scrambling to get a full update on the ship's personnel. Who is affected, how they are affected, if there are any who are in immediate danger of serious injury or death.
[ Did he glance down at the shiny blue orb when he said that? Maayyybbee. ]
In between the cases coming through the door, we work on R&D.
[ He was done putting antiseptic on open wounds. Just a few brushes of the gauze to clean off the worst of the encrusted blood. Next came a search for butterfly bandaged. ]
no subject
[ It's a miracle they're not all dead. He wrinkles his nose at the brush of the gauze, but he's being obedient. ]
I can take some samples over to Banner later. He probably has better equipment for this than medbay does, and he doesn't have his hands full trying to put a spaceship or its crew back together. I'm not sure I even wanna know what kinds of stuff you've already seen.
no subject
Butterfly bandages located, Adrien pulled the edges of the cut together and began to apply them. It probably wasn't particularly comfortable but it should go faster than stitches at least. ]
Hey, don't knock my equipment. Remember, you helped me drag most of this shit off the Collective's hands.
[ However, he wasn't saying no to getting samples into the hands of as many of their resident genius types as possible. ]
no subject
[ We got this far before the bitching set in. He deserves a gold star. ]
Anyway, look, your toys are real nice, I'm not dissing your Hot Wheels. But a science lab is a science lab. It's always gonna be my favorite.
no subject
[ Tony gets the bitching right back and despite the wriggling target, Adrien continues to work at closing the wound. ]
Look I always knew I was the mistress hidden in the closet. [ He snarked back, before he paused and some of the fight went out of him. ] I know you, Tony. I don't know Banner.
[ I don't trust Banner. ]
no subject
You said you knew about the Avengers Initiative, didn't you? Will it instill deeper faith in the science department if I tell you Banner was one of us, is damn smart even by my standards, and I've trusted him with my life before? [ Adrien has an inkling of what a paranoid fucker Tony is. ] I haven't been made to regret it yet.
[ Unlike letting Adrien treat this wound, which he is now petulantly regretting. ]
no subject
At the comments on Banner, he frowned (more deeply than usual) and gave his head a small shake. ]
I have no doubt he's as good at his job as you suggest. I have faith in the science department on this ship to be doing it's job the best it can. [ Giving Tony's face one more wipe, Adrien leaned back and fiddled with the half soiled gauze in his hand. He could anticipate the follow-up question and decided to save them both the trouble by answering it now. ]
I know you, Tony. I have an understanding of how you think and I trust that you are listening when I say something and I ... trust you to have my back; not just the crews'.
[ This was a big admission for Adrien, who didn't trust many people on a personal level. ]
All I know about Banner is you've had to tranq him through all this, and that a loss of control on his part was a thread that brought us here. I respect your faith in him, Tony and that is what helps me believe in the science department, but Banner is an unpredictable element because while I believe you when you say he's the best at what he does, I don't trust that he'll always be capable of coming through when we need him.
[ Which made Banner an unpredictable variable and when you were trying to navigate impossible situation, the unpredictable had to be accounted for with a wide range of scenarios. Which you could never fully trust. ]
no subject
Tony's faith in him had always been the exception rather than the rule. ]
Fortunately for you, his skill in the lab is all you need to trust right now anyway.
no subject
He didn't push any further on the subject of Banner. He knew the man was someone from Tony's world and Tony was right, he knew about the Avenger Initiative. There were things he knew about some of those people, which he was very careful not to speak about.
But Rogers, Barnes ...
Anyway back to the here and the now. ]
There. Now you shouldn't be in danger of bleeding into your work. [ He remarked, stepping back. The motion brought his attention down to the glow of the arc reactor. His lips flattened as he bit back voicing further concern; he knew Tony wouldn't welcome it and all it would serve to do was highlight how much neither of them understood of their current situation.
Frustrating, indeed. ]
