old but unfamiliar faces
"We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and offered a contract to sign that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. Any questions you might have would be answered in a straightforward manner as well as an explanation about how the Ingress, the thing that has pulled you onto the Moira, is broken and bringing people here unintentionally. This process also consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand or wrist with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

At first, this month seems no more unusual than the previous one for those who have been aboard the Moira for any amount of time. The crew who had landed on the slaver outpost were rescued, and with everyone aboard, the ship has pushed forward into the darker parts of the Runoff. Anyone arriving through the Ingress follows the same routine—moving from the Ingress room into the Medbay for their physical and contract before being assisted by seasoned crew members and helped to their assigned decks. But all familiar things must eventually come to an end: two final travelers come through the Ingress. The first, and most noticeable difference between them and all the others, is their clothing. Both are dressed in standard Moira uniforms, though they bear the insignia of one sharing the same rank as Captains Cúrre and Thán. After a moment to take in all the people on the platform ahead of them, one of the two latest arrivals approaches one of the Ingress panels and begins to manipulate the controls. The Ingress completely shuts down. Unlike before, however, there isn’t an imbalance felt across the ship; everything remains normal and stable.

Utilizing the computer systems located in the Ingress room, they send out the following message to the crew via the MID:

To all those aboard this vessel: I am Ira Phirun, assigned captain of the Moira. First Mate Egan and I will be commandeering all rights to the ship as soon as word is sent to those currently in charge. Expect a more detailed report as soon as all records and logs in Navigation have been reviewed by myself and the First Mate. All questions will be answered in a timely matter. For now, there will be no interruption of daily routine or reprimand if conduct among ranks is broken. Thanks for your time.

Heading to Navigation, the Captain and First Mate, for seemingly unknown reasons, approach Navigator Manasseh and have her show them all records and logs of the Moira. Those working in Navigation when the Captain and First Mate arrive will see Mana greet them in a professional manner. Oddly, the Captain and First Mate act very familiar with the Navigator. They review all documents, but when they come upon news that the Ploiatos is on board, their mostly friendly demeanor shifts quickly. The Captain issues a sharp order, unintelligible to those who are close enough to overhear parts of their conversation, and without any warning at all, Mana loses consciousness and collapses right there on the bridge. Within minutes of this happening, the ship as a whole falls into a low power state with basic functions only. Mana’s MID alerts Medbay, and without hesitation, Captain Cúrre places her in cryo with strict orders to those who work there not to disturb the unit.

As promised, the Captain and First Mate soon address the crew.

lights down low
The lighting has dimmed in all the rooms and halls, the normally crisp air that is pumped from the vents low, and all machines and tech are running at half-speed. These effects can be found throughout the ship. Water in the showers remain hot for only a few minutes before reverting to cold. Recreational equipment powers off not long after it has been turned on. The sanitation and water filtration systems require an hourly manual reboot, and all unused areas of the ship have no power allotted to them until a crew member steps inside. Even then, most functions are not optimal. It’s as if the Moira has been transformed into a dark house with only a candle flickering on the window sill.

reuse & recycle
The Captain and First Mate are quick to establish that this is a new regime and go about making the ship and its crew more efficient in the wake of their change in course and the low power state of the ship itself. This means they will systematically inspect each occupied barracks room and leave notes for what needs to be disposed of or stowed away. Unlike before, this is no longer a pleasure cruise, and each member of the crew is a guest on board; they will not tolerate useless clutter. Anything seen as unnecessary will be either placed into storage in the Cargo Bay or disposed of through the airlock. This new need for efficiency also extends to the need to conserve resources until they reach their destination. The showers are set to an automatic timer to minimize water waste. Those few minutes of hot water are all a crew member is now given. Meals are smaller, bordering on ration sizes, and luxuries are done away with entirely in order to preserve supplies so that the ship can go longer before needing to dock at a planet.

new jobs, same faces
The Captain and his First Mate, as expressed in their addressing of the Moira, explain that work efficiency is a priority. Applications for a head of the following departments will be accepted for a short period: Navigation, the Tower, Medbay, Defense, the Hold, Sanitation, Ingress work, and the Galley/Mess Hall. (Here.) After reviewing what they receive, one head of department will be chosen and tasked with helping crew find positions relevant to those departments and their own skillsets. They will be allowed to retain any positions that they held before that aren’t ship-functional jobs, but they will have to be done in leisure time. In two weeks time, they’ll be accepting department position applications which will be approved, and all those that do not apply will be assigned in accordance with their initial work application. They will also choose three individuals to act as guards of Ploiatos to ensure that there is a rotation available at all times. Will you choose to follow this new decision and promote yourself into a position of responsibility? Or will you simply wait for a reassignment?

[ After the heavy talk, the small, understated joke has Andyr snorting a laugh, grinning wide, as if the subjects of the last few minutes had evaporated away that easily, as he reaches out a hand an gives a light punch to the guy's leg. ]

Dork.

[ But on the subject, he is a bit proud he'd managed to sneak up on him, and considering he's come to like the guy okay - ]

Lemme know if you need anyone stalked. 'Cause you're definitely too huge to fit up there yourself, and that hand would be loud as hell.

[ Because he's running out of reasons to creep on people when they're all seeming so genuinely wholesome (which makes the suspicion even greater, really), and could use something to do while he's up there... pretending to be working. ]

[Another Shepard, and Nihlus somehow still recognized her. She sits up straighter, picking out the differences between this new Shepard, the spacer, and herself. It doesn't make much sense to her that this one could look like a completely different person, until she remembers the different circumstances of her timeline's Shepard's upbringing and that of the one in cryo. Why not a different looking Shepard in some other timeline? DNA can express itself in different ways.]

The other one's in cryo - she looks like me. We're pretty different, though. Different upbringings, different combat classes...

[She gives a very slight nod. You're the newbie, you can dish first.]

Sounds like a movie.

[ HAR HAR HAR. But really, it's the kind of story book heroics Andyr's never seen in the real world, and never expected to, and Steve, for all Andyr's suspicious of it, seems exactly the mold for that kind of hero. And yet, here's Barnes, who's broken and struggling, and that doesn't fit in with the rest. So there has to be more to that. More to Rogers and that whole story. How he's so important to him, and how someone who's such a hero let this happen to their best friend. ]

How's he not dead, then? [ if he crashed into the ocean. It still doesn't answer the seventy year gap, and being a good man doesn't make your aging slow. The pieces still don't make sense, and Andyr shakes his head slowly. ]

How are either of you not dead, or going around with walkers?

[ The guy seems slightly more friendly than when he'd met him before, then again, Andyr wasn't exactly being nice to him, but either way, it's with a kind of cautious that he's conversing with him. No reason not to answer the questions he's given. ]

Just since then.

[ He'd only arrived the day the whole space jellyfish nonsense started up. Hell of a first day, isn't it? ]

Andyr. [ But, at the name he's given, his eyes narrow, looking the man over a bit more closely, with his head tilted, before adding - ] Which one of you's the really shitty clone?

[ because for real, that's a lot of details to get off. ]

[Okay, well he's really hoping that this dude doesn't check the MID and see there's no bot with the name Wasp here. That would be awkward.]

Oh that? Nah, that wasn't speeding! [Come on, Bee, think of something.] That was, uh. I was helping ship morale! Yeah! The Captains wanted me to go and check and make sure everybot was happy and stuff.]

"The government's basically run by Houses now - the corporations. Whatever country's got the House with the best military engineering, usually, gets to be king of the mountain." Thus, in the South, Hapsburg is ruler, and the President and cabinet are more puppets than anything else. You pander to the weaponsmith to stay at the head of the global table. It's a joke, really, and everyone knows it, they just aren't saying it. As for the question one it's origin -

"Evolved naturally, no scientific hand in it. If it was left alone, probably would've kept evolving and spread, evened everything out." It was sort of a miracle, really. Which is maybe what led people so much into believing it was there for them to exploit alone. Like the ill were given this gift in the form of human sacrifices, and it was wasting it to do anything but put them under the knife, for greater prosperity.

And so the cramped, over populated cities continued to grow taller and wider, and the gap between the privileged and downtrodden stretched. Everyone now just a bit more desperate for the all cure that KN carriers provided. Andyr's head tilts, rolling the summary over in his head, and eventually shrugs.

"Something close to that, yeah. If you're poor and you need a new liver or something, you can sign a contract with one of the Houses, but that basically makes you their bitch for the rest of your life. Cities're so packed in anyway, the slums are more a hive for illness than anything else, so if you're born down there you're pretty much screwed." But he wouldn't know much about how the rich live, other than what he'd already said. What he's seen of them has been bits and pieces, when the Hapsburg staff was brave enough to pull him from his cell and put him around the public. Not a common occurrence - it typically doesn't end well.

It's that familiar sense of the Force reaching out that catches Ahsoka's attention first. While she doesn't know the girl in question, that familiarity that's come with all the Skywalkers she's met is there. Another relation to Anakin, perhaps?

Which is why Ahsoka went in search of Jaina in the first place. When she located the girl, she just happened to overhear her comment about the utility issue.

"Good luck finding the parts to do it. The new Captains have cut us back to 'only the essential'. And by essential, I mean what they think we need." But she agreed, a sonic shower would help things tremendously. If only they could make the captains see that.

[There was nothing like a good tea to get the morning started. Ahsoka had to be in the cargo bag for her technician job later that morning, but she always woke much earlier than she needed to. It was a habit, she guessed, from all her years training in the temple.

So with her extra time, she made her way to the cafe, planning to get the tea and head back to her room for some quiet time. Only when she got there, she spotted Leia.

She was hesitant to approach, given everything that had happened. She knew about Anakin's future now, but she also knew that Leia knew. She knew it had to be hard, because it was hard for her. Anakin may not have been her father, but he was her mentor. He was the person she was closest to. She had wanted to give Leia space, to let her figure things out, if just because she knew how badly she needed that herself.

She didn't know how the other woman would react, but Ahsoka decided to chance it, if just because she had liked Leia. She wanted to build on that-- maybe even get to be her friend.]

They have pretty good drinks here, don't they? [...wow. So lame. Small talk was hard, okay? Especially when you didn't know how the other person was going to react to you talking to them.]

Him. Definitely him.

[A smile teases at the corner of his lips before he shakes his head. He’s only (partially) kidding here.]

If we were clones anyway. [He cranes his neck to the side, staring at him with a bit of amusement in his eyes. Guess Andyr’s met the older, shorter version of him. He’s almost curious to hear what impression that Tony left on him, yet he also doesn’t actually care enough to ask.

Instead, he should probably try to clarify here.
] We’re alternates of each other. Not clones. Different things. I don't know if you've heard of the multiverse, but it's a collection of alternate universes that share a universal hierarchy we're all a part of.

Well, many of these universes originate from one another based off of a major decision made on the part of an individual. So in our particular case, I’m Tony Stark of our primary Earth and he’s the version of me from another Earth.

[A small frown creases his brows for a moment before he offers a small, nonchalant shrug.] It’s a whole thing. Basically, what you need to know is that we might be versions of each other, but we’re not the same on a genetic level – or else he'd be taller.

It's that serum he told you he took.

[ Bucky's was a different kind. He takes a moment to contemplate that question, wondering how much Steve had told Andyr about him. Knowing the man, not much -- and Bucky won't reveal the secrets Steve wants to keep; except for the facts that can be gleaned from the Smithsonian itself.

He idly rubs his chest, over where Steve's dogtags rest over his heart. An absent-minded gesture, as if he's making sure that it's still there. Your ears must be burning by now, Steve. ]
And he's really tenacious when he sets his mind to it. [ There's a ghost of a smile that tugs at his mouth at the memory of a smaller Steve Rogers charging into trouble -- and the bigger one ain't all that much different either.

But he was, is always kind. ]
I suppose he likes living. They found him a few years ago, frozen in the ice. Defrosted him, and here he is. [ Bucky doesn't talk about Steve's probable shock of being propelled into the future, to a time when the world had forgotten him. He can only imagine Steve's pain, when the war had been barely over for him and yet it belonged deep in the history pages for everyone else around him. He had no time to mourn. ]

[She's not expecting the hug, but it's welcome all the same. She embraces the woman back, maybe a little too tightly for a split second (she can't help it, she's just really relieved she knew her). When she pulls away, the smile on her face is bigger than it was before.]

This won't make any sense, but you have no idea how glad I am you know me.

[Unless one of the others had already found her and caught her up already, that is. She couldn't be sure what Padmé knew just yet.]

[He's rolling his eyes, but whether or not you can see that, Tony, is debatable.]

Probably not, but I'm not sticking around in the med bay when I have shit to do. [Shit like repairing his own mind to get the lights working again. That's how this coma dream is working, right? He's gotta repair the ship and work toward repairing his own mind and waking up. Yeah. That's how it's gonna go.]

Wrong. Newt, and totally in the right place, by the looks of it. [he goes to touch whatever it is Tony is working on. GIMMIE.] What're you working on, buddy?

What are you? You're not even based of any kaiju we've discovered! --Shit, are you from the Drift? [he's babbling incessantly, bobbing around Nihlus to try and get a better look.] Holy shit, carapaces and--look at that jaw!

[ The fact of the matter is that no one's ever done things like that— gave him an easy punch to the leg, called him a dork— so he looks properly disarmed before he settles into some sort of self-contained fondness, one that he's only ever showed to a sniper without a name.

She's the only one that'd come close to teasing him, with water splashed in his face after a surprise downpour.
]

I can stalk people just fine on my own.

[ He says, breezily, which is very likely not a very responsible thing or a very good thing to say to a young man??? What kind of example is he setting, here.

But he states it with such conviction that it's obvious that he is very, very capable of being stealthy and slitting throats when he has to.

To prove him wrong. Which, I did. [YEAH. Proving him wrong and getting stuck here. Who's the real winner, Geiszler?]

I mean, initiating a Drift with a kaiju probably wasn't my finest moment of science, but it's the last days of War! Who cares if I end up in a coma, at least I tried to save the world. [He rubs at his nose.] Except now I have all this information that can save humanity, and I'm stuck here. So I guess Hermann was right? Sort of? Ugh. It feels gross just saying that!

[ Karako snaps around like a whip at the intrusion, completely facing in L's direction with her back to the wall before he's finished speaking. A beat of silence follows, the taut, puzzled look on her face made especially grim when lit from below by her MID, which she has yet to notice was not damaged.
There is eye contact for a moment. She breaks it before speaking up. ]

Or what, I'll trigger the self-destruct function? [ The remark is supposed to be a joke, but Karako's voice is just a shade too rueful to pull it off. She hangs her head, pretending to be once again preoccupied with her device as tries to will the anger to go out of her. ]

Sorry, that was... [ Shitty? Bleak? Too accurate to the way she's feeling right now? This time she manages to speak evenly; when it comes to deflecting, she's always been better at sounding distant than sounding wry. Peggy was always watching those around her. It was habit, being a spy for so long. But she didn't regret it, as it came in use here. While they were all forced to work together, that didn't mean everyone around her was completely trustworthy, the Captains - old or new - included.

It was while she stopped by to pick up a meal of her own that she noticed the man in passing. But more than that, she noted his notes. Of course, she couldn't read them, but the fact that they were in code was what she found interesting. It wasn't one she recognized immediately, which peaked her interest even more.

She hadn't planned to sit and chat that day, but that quickly changed. She proceeded to get her food, then came around and gestured to the empty seat across from him, feinting any interest in him otherwise.

"Mind if I join you?"
