"Open up, and let them in."

Just shut! Up!
[He has no words for how Drake gets under his skin and how it drives him absolutely mad to feel kicked when he's already down. It would be nice to have a gun to shut him up with, but he might as well make due with the guns God gave him. At least he's always had a height advantage on Drake, he thinks, taking a wild swing at the other man.]

You think I screwed you over, Harry? You think I done you wrong? It didn't have to be that way!
no subject
[The Lazarevic job was going to be It. The Big Score. Had things gone to plan, he'd have been set for life and doing body shots off Chloe in the South of France. But Drake wouldn't let it go. He interfered, repeatedly, and everything had gone tits up in the worst way possible. He was sure that somehow the space kidnapping was his fault, too.
Now where did he shoot him before? Left side? Right side? His left but Harry's right? That seems correct. Flynn grunts and jabs at where he thinks Nate's old injury would be.]
no subject
Taking advantage of the close range, he gives Harry his best damn bodycheck, not above aiming for where his recent injuries had been.]
It wasn't about the treasure! I was ready to walk away if it wouldn't have left that psychopath free to become invincible!
no subject
Don't lie, Drake. Wasn't about saving the world in Borneo, was it? Or Nepal. Or the train you derailed, you absolute lunatic!
[There was also the small matter of fighting over The Girl, of course. And as far as he could tell, Nate had more eyes for the blonde than he did Chloe. But he couldn't let Flynn have anything nice, could he?
And that's as good a reason as any to try and knee him in the groin.]
no subject
[And because his ticket was about to get punched for good by Lazarevic's goons. And because he hadn't known exactly what would happen, he was just taking desperate action.
He could say all that and point out that Flynn had earned the (comparatively minor) payback in Borneo for sticking Nate with a shared bucket for months if they weren't in t he middle of a fight. Like any man who's been in more than a few fights and won most of them, Nate has something of a sixth sense when it comes to protecting his junk, and alarm bells ring just in time for him to twist and catch the knee in his thigh instead. Still hurts like a bitch, but he's not going down for the count.]
None of that would have happened if you hadn't screwed me over! We were working fine as a team before then!
[All right, so he'd been screwing Chloe behind Harry's back, but 1) that had been at her behest 2) they hadn't been exclusive 3) Harry still would have gotten the treasure as a consolation prize in theory.
But he can't say any of that so he just aims a punch of his own at his former friend's gut.]
no subject
We both know you'd have done the same, sooner or later. The money was too good. I just beat you to the punch.
[It was just how the game was played. They both knew that.]
no subject
That's the difference between you and me, Harry. I wouldn't have.
[There was a difference between a light double-cross on a simple job for a few months of rent money and one where that mattered, one where he was partnering up equally with someone he'd genuinely seen as a friend.
Or maybe that's just what he wants to believe now. Maybe he would have been tempted to do as Harry thinks he would have, eventually. But he'd never intended to do so, and they'll never know for sure.]
no subject
You are so full of shit.
[He'd known Nate to double cross before. And it didn't help that he was the protege or whatever of Victor Sullivan, who had a reputation all of his own for being a slick, self-serving son of a bitch. The fact that Drake was taking the high ground on that now was nothing less than laughable.]
no subject
Yeah, sometimes. Not this time, though.
[He shrugs.]
Is this gonna be a regular thing, you taking a swing at me? Because I don't think that's going to work out well for anybody.
no subject
Well I don't have any better ideas.
no subject
[Unspoken: this is why Nate is the guy who gets things done.]
Consider this: not doing that. I'm not afraid of fighting you, but it's going to get boring and even if you take me out with a sucker punch, there are a few people who would be really pissed and they're bigger pains in the ass than I am.
And this is a second chance for you. There's got to be something better to do with your time.
no subject
[There's a familiar low, almost rueful timbre to his voice. He'd made his choices, picked his sides. He went all in on selling himself to the devil and well ... he probably wouldn't do much differently a second time, except have better aim.
Probably.
Still. There had been good old times, once.]
I'll, ah, take a rain check on this for now. Punch you later, yeah?
no subject
It almost makes him laugh. Harry always was stubborn.]
Yeah, sure. Try not to bleed all over the place.
[He starts to walk away, but doesn't fully turn his back on Harry until he's sure the guy isn't going to run up and jump him from behind.
It's only then that it occurs to him. Ah, fuck. He's going to need to call Elena and get her away from medtent.]
