"Open up, and let them in."

Ain't his first rodeo, by the sound of it. An experienced traveler.
"It can be, depending on who you run into. Or who you're chasing."
no subject
The upside of having been transported to a strange alternate dimension full of people from other worlds is that you seem a little less crazy when you talk about having been transported to a strange alternate dimension full of people from other worlds.
"What were you chasin?"
no subject
Had he also been on a ship? Now she has questions for him. It's interesting to think that this isn't his first world to go between.
Elena blows out a slow breath and looks away, tilts her head back to look up at the sky.
"His name was Zoran Lazarevic. He was a criminal warlord. Everyone believed him to be dead but I'd caught a lead on him and went to track him down. He was a very dangerous man, killed anyone who got in his way."
no subject
"There was a city. Lots'f land around it. Folks from all over, like here." He shrugs a shoulder. "Meant to go home but we ended up here."
no subject
That's not all that assuring. If he was in one place and had hopes of going back to his own world only to end up here instead? Where does that leave her?
"Did you like it there?"
no subject
Maybe it's not completely reassuring, but it's better than nothing, right? Whether this mysterious Midway Hub can help, he hasn't got a clue. It's not that he doesn't want to go home, exactly. They've got to get home; he knows it. But it's hard to feel the hurry, when he's been gone so long already.
"Wasn't a bad place. Had a farm, plenty'f space for our folks. Dangerous, I guess, but we got by."
no subject
Which comes with its pros and cons. Elena's unsure which category has been filled with the most yet.
"A farm, that would be nice. Being able to grow your own food, surviving with what comes out of the earth. Not that I know anything about farming. I've been in the city most of my life."
no subject
"Had some folk who knew what they were doin. A couple horses, cows. Too bad we couldn't bring 'em with," he jokes. It'd come in handy now.
no subject
His recent world doesn't have much as far as details go but it's good either way.
no subject
He's joking, as evidenced by the amused glance he casts in her direction, but it's true enough.
"I don't mind, just. Lot of us to keep fed."
no subject
She sees that glance and smiles back at him.
"If you're hungry, I have some rations in my pac that I'll be happy to share."
no subject
"M good. We got one of them deer."
Or whatever they are. Granted, he didn't have much of it, but he's not worried about himself. He can get by.
no subject
Meat was meat, as long as it was cooked then they shouldn't have had any problems with digesting it.
no subject
He shrugs. Food's food, his ego isn't hurting a bit. Better to take the opportunity to teach other folks since they're stuck here for the moment.
"Did a lot of that back home."
no subject
Such a skill would've come in real handy while going through the jungle.
no subject
"Could take you out, if you wanna learn."
no subject
She straightens up then at the offer.
"Really? The only kind of tracking I've done was years ago. It's been a while. I wouldn't mind a refresher."
no subject
More than that, but somehow he doesn't want to get into details. The social aspects, the way it was just part of life. The fact that when they were barely scraping by, catching a rabbit made a hell of a distance.
"I'll head out when we make camp tomorrow. See what we can find."
The more people who know what they're doing, the better.
no subject
Ah, the memories.
"What time of the day? I can meet you."
no subject
He shrugs. "Whenever they set up camp. Need somewhere to bring it back to."
no subject
Elena then smiles over at him before glancing up at the stars, listening to the campfire crackle and the wood pop. It's after a moment of silence that she looks to where she'd come from and begins to rise off the log.
"I should probably head back. Who knows what will happen if I'm found missing from bed." Probably nothing, probably a message firing up on her device. "It was nice talking with you Daryl. You should rest up."
no subject
He always keeps odd hours, but he's gonna have to sleep sooner or later if he plans to be any use tomorrow. Once he makes sure someone trustworthy's on watch-- well. He'll get some rest.
"See you," he adds, almost as an afterthought.
