"Open up, and let them in."

[ The smirk on her lips widens in amusement, flashing a hint of teeth as she chuckles as well. Yeah, that had been predictable and lame -- but Pepper happens to love lame puns.
She huffs a little breath and brushes at her bangs with one hand at the namedrop. She probably should have known. ]
Tony Stark? Company makes alike, in that case -- I guess.
no subject
Yeah, actually. [A beat.] You know him?
[Could this finally be the Pepper Potts Hawke had said was here?]
no subject
[ Girlfriend always sounds so juvenile to her, and every other term awkward or unfitting to describe what they are to each other. ]
Well, I'm Pepper. It's nice to see Tony's made friends here, Mr...?
no subject
[Nate brightens right up. He's been—well, it seems rude to actually hope that she'd show up, for months, since being space kidnapped brings a lot of problems. But Tony's been pining for her and boy does he know what that's like. He can't not be happy for his friend that his girl is finally here.]
Hawke said you were here—I've actually been wanting to meet you, Tony's a friend of mine. And he has been pining for you, don't tell him I said that.
[Actually he doesn't really care if Tony knows he said that. Because it's true.]
no subject
Well, you're the second person to use the word pine, so then it must be true.
[ They've spent so many years in each other's immediate orbit that she'd probably be just as bad if the situation were reversed. ]
Nice to meet you, I'm sure. I didn't catch your name, though-- or shall I just call you the adventure guy?
no subject
'Adventure guy' is a little unwieldy. I'm Nathan Drake—Nate. [He offers a handshake.] It's good to finally meet the woman from Tony's stories.
[And oh have there been stories.
Sexy stories.]no subject
She laughs when he goes on, torn between amusement and wariness. ]
I'm hesitant to ask about these stories. Tony has a habit of... embellishing.
[
She's going to kill Tony. :')]no subject
The short version is that you hung the moon and you're too good for him.
[A sentiment to which Nate can relate!]
I think he sells himself short—practically the first thing he did on board the ship [when they had a ship] was build this electronic heated wrap thing for my wife because she was having shrapnel pain. He'd barely even met her.
no subject
[ She never quite knows how to respond to things like that. Luckily Nate goes on and gives her something else to focus on, a soft, fond smile spreading to her lips at the account. That sounds exactly like something Tony would do. ]
When it comes to things that really matter, that's true. He has the biggest heart I've ever known.
no subject
[Ha ha, very funny. Shut up Nate.]
I'm sorry you had to get dragged here, but kinda not really. He'll be pretty damn happy, and maybe get more sleep.
no subject
Yes, it makes a good nightlight.
[ She can make light of it now. Not so much when she had to, y'know, stick her hand in there.... ]
Right, Hawke already tattled on that earlier. I'll have to see what I can do about it.
no subject
[Of course, Pepper being here might also mean Tony gets less sleep, eyebrow waggle waggle.]
So, any of this stuff worth taking back to the camp?
no subject
Aside from some ration bars, all I seem to find is broken junk and books in some incomprehensible language. Maybe this section has already been picked clean by others...
[ She trails off with a tiny shrug, glancing about with a slight frown. ]
So, you're the expert. Anything worth mentioning standing out about all this-- aside from the lack of hints as to why these people abandoned this settlement?
no subject
Broken junk is the order of the day, but even then there might be some treasures found within it. It just depends on your perspective.]
Keep the ration bars and books, they might say something worthwhile if we can translate them.
[He moves over to stand beside her, surveying the admittedly unimpressive scene.]
Even the lack of hints tells us something. I haven't spotted any battle damage, so either they weren't run out by violent means or they surrendered immediately. Some of the stuff is usable, so it can't have been that long ago. And if it was an orderly evacuation, it was done in such a way that they couldn't bring all their possessions with them.
no subject
[ As the glass casing is cracked and the needle doesn't respond. It will likely not actually be particularly useful even if fixed but like she said. It's cute, and sometimes she gets a little whimsical. ]
It's hard to imagine anyone living here. It's so... barren. I wonder if it's always been like this? [ Or did the climate change and force these settlers into moving? ]
no subject
[Especially in the desert! Though not as useful as water would have been. He's heard.]
Seems like there have to be resourcessomewhere on this rock, or it wouldn't be much use as a hub. Maybe they're collected near where we're going. Still, this would be a hell of a place to live if you have to transport all the resources here.
no subject
[ She gives a crooked little smirk and slips the broken compass carefully back into her pocket for safekeeping. ]
True enough. I don't know, this whole place gives me the creeps, to be honest.
no subject
[Heckling keeps their three-way friendship together. It's the cement between the bricks of asshole.]
That's because it's a creepy place. But don't worry, I've survived creepier, and there are no hairless, slimy zombies in this one. I checked.
no subject
[ Such friends!! But she's laughing quietly; she probably will, anyway. She's never been shy of gently poking fun of Tony and his antics so they're all in good company. ]
You checked? [ Bro, what. ] I'm a little concerned you felt like you had to.
no subject
[His life is hard, Pepper. So hard.]
no subject
[ Bro, W H A T. It's so sad that she doesn't even think he's joking or drunk or anything that would actually make sense. ]
no subject
[They were creepy, murderous, and incredibly gross. That's close enough in his book.]
