"Open up, and let them in."
|
week 2 ) wildcard nonsense at the medical tent
Imagine her surprise when it's a familiar face she sees, and Lena's greeted with an immediate smile that dims only at the sight of pain in her old friend's expression and she gentles in her approach, quick steps mincing carefully and brows furrowing. Yet she doesn't hesitate to hold an arm out to her in invitation with the other raised ready to cradle her head close. ]
Lena! It's so good to see you, dear; what's wrong?
[ Because she second she gets ahold of her it will be a good few long moments before she lets go and can get a look at her properly, ok?? Fight her. ]
no subject
Lena doesn't even hesitate to accept the hug. It feels like a little piece of her heart has slid back into place. She'd stopped mourning Overwatch a long time ago, but she never quite stopped missing her friends. ]
I missed you so much. [ Angela might be able to feel Lena's smile against her shoulder. ] Bit of an incident with the Ingress, I think. They looked in bad shape. Looks worse than it feels.
[ No it doesn't. ]

She'll just... set aside a moment to enjoy this, as Lena seems to be presenting herself as all right and wouldn't do so if her situation were dire, so she will soak up the younger agent while she has her and just take a deep, slow breath. She's hardly changed at all in those six (seven) years. ]
I've missed you, too. It's been too long. [ She can feel that smile, and it's what doesn't stop her from turning to press a good smooch in her hair, letting her hold onto Angela as long as she needs. ] I'll get you fixed right up. All of Winston's drilling blueprints and theories into me day and night have yet to fail me. I still associate physics with the smell of peanut butter and bananas.

Lena pulls back quickly, just enough so that she can look at Angela. She's surprised but pleasantly so. Lena was perfectly willing to grin and bear it-- better a damaged-but-working Accelerator than none at all-- but fixing it? That would be spectacular. More than she'd hoped when she was clear-headed enough to notice. ]
You can really fix it?
no subject
The surprise is something she hates to let down because she realizes she wasn't necessarily clear, but when Lena draws back Angela's still smiling, if a touch apologetic. ]
Well, the harness at the very least, yes. If there is damage to the accelerator itself I'll have to see. If not myself, I know of a couple very skilled engineers who may be able to bump heads with me, though.
[ Angie honey no that's not how the saying goes— put our heads together, she means. Idioms. ]
Let me get a look at you though, and get you some water.
[ She'll motion for Lena to have a seat and then bustle off for some light-duty painkillers and a bottle of water, returning to offer them both to her and begin examining the damage and her clothing once she's had her fill. ]
no subject
The core's still alright. I can tell if somethin's wrong with it. Fixin' the harness would be great. More than I expected.
[ Lena dutifully sits down, resting her forearms on her thighs. She allows herself to slump a bit, lets the tiredness show.
When Angela comes back, she sits up with a smile and takes the medicine rather gratefully. ]
How's it look?
I CAN CHANGE THIS IF YOU WANTED TO ROLL WITH SMTH ELSE WITH THE HARNESS DAMAGE JUST LMK <3
[ It's good news, at least, that the accelerator itself isn't damaged. Angela's smile warms as if to make up for Lena's flickering with the news, but she's bustling off and returning a few moments later and holding out the aspirin and glass of water to her charge. ]
Here you are, dear. This will take the edge off, and the water will do you well.
[ Her hands settle on Lena's shoulders once they're free, reassuring and bending just enough to bump her head to the other woman's in an affectionate little gesture, rubbing her arms. When she's finished drinking, Angela sets about gentle prodding at the edges of the harness and into the collar of her coat, beneath her shirt— tracing her clavicle to the edge of the harness where it's began fusing through her clothing and to her skin, but it's superficial at best.
Hm. ]
I'm not sure, it may be dire. [ Spoken with a lofty (yet teasing) tone, nearing on a dramatic sigh. ] It's looking like I'll have to cut up this lovely jacket of yours.
[ Angela please. ]
From there, though, I'll have to see. It doesn't seem to have worked too deep. I have some of the extra uniforms for this place that will fit you, so you won't be without clothes. May I?
let's do this
Angela startles her for a moment before Lena catches onto the joking tone. A smile spreads across her face as she replies equally dramatically. ]
No, Doctor! Anything but that!
[ Okay, maybe she's a tad bit bummed about the jacket. But she does have her priorities. ]
But I suppose if you must... go ahead.
[ She heaves one last dramatic sigh. ]
no subject
Oh no, I'm afraid it's too late. It's already been eaten through; we'll ensure a proper funeral is arranged.
[ Said with the utmost levity, properly mournful— she's glad it's keeping Lena's spirits up and drawing her into the act as well. Even if she isn't entirely convinced, fake it 'til you make it, right? ]
I absolutely must. My professional recommendation.
[ Angela sets about separating the pieces from where they've nearly melted in with the harness, steady and sure with bandage scissors until she has to work at the edges with a scalpel, never once nicking the other woman's skin as she slowly works away and reveals more and more of it, layers of clothing coming off in odd-shaped pieces and piled neatly to one side.
In the meantime, smalltalk. ]
Did you run into anyone else on the way here, dear? If not, I'm more than happy to inform you that we're far from alone.
[ Though she does wonder exactly how many she should mention and who she should allow to re-introduce themselves— lookin' at you, Ana and Gabriel. ]
