reset in the regress
"Time is what we want most, but what we use worst."

With the Moira in a sort of low maintenance state, Captain Ira and First Mate Egan have been forthright with information at their disposal, and as the weeks have progressed, not much has been answered in terms of what has happened with the ship itself or why some of the crew are informing the Captain and First Mate of Ingresses all across the universes being broken. Early on the 16th, Captain Ira decides that Manasseh has been in cryo long enough to warrant waking her. With that decision comes the restoration of all ship functions—including normal water and power usage. Rationing continues, but it isn’t as strict (or enforced) as it has been the last few weeks. However, the Navigator appears and acts no differently than before, which troubles the Captain, and rather than shut down the Moira’s functions once more, he decides to redouble efforts to contact someone at the Midway Hub.

As before, when he first tried, no one answers.

Not completely discouraged, Captain Ira orders First Mate Egan and those in both Navigation and the Tower to put out a transmission to anyone with an Ingress in hopes of finding a technician or someone with enough information pertaining to the machinery to perhaps fix the one aboard the Moira long enough to get them to the Midway Hub without having to travel the length of the Runoff. Within the hour, they receive a peculiar return transmission that’s worth investigating since it’s considerably close. During this time, Captain Thán sends the following MID message to all Moirans:

Crew,

The last few weeks have been hectic, and I'm sure everyone has questions that they need answered. When Captain Ira and First Mate Egan approached us, we asked for evidence of their legitimacy and were given it through credentials, logs, and the private access codes that they had in their possession. It allowed us to see that they were, in fact, the previous leadership of the Moira.

Explaining why we took a knee is rather simple. They know what they're doing, and it is clear now, more than ever, that we do not. Every bump in the road that we've met, you have survived because of your own tenacity, and many of the deaths and hardships were our fault in some way. We found this ship unmanned and took it without any skill. It worked, at first, but then, you were all here, and it changed everything. We needed to grow to accommodate, and we weren't fast enough. As captains, we've failed you, but we do believe that Ira and Egan can do so much better. We'll be working with them to make the end of this trip as short as possible. You deserve to go home, and they can make that happen.

You also deserve honesty. The blame for the events on Caducus Primary are our burden to carry, not yours. The statues that their people believed had been stolen were on this ship, and we were responsible for them being here. Not long after boarding the Moira, we stopped there and were approached by a person offering us the items at a lower trade rate. We knew that it wasn't strictly by the books, but we did the deal anyway. When those actions came back around, we attempted to remedy them but were not fast enough and many lives were lost.

This is one of the reasons we have given leadership rights over. We've done enough damage, and you don't deserve anymore by our hands. For what it's worth, we do apologize for everything, and we'll be staying on the ship until we reach the Midway Hub.

-Thán
Whether believed or not, the previous Captains can still be found around the ship in their usual places of work. Onward, the Moira goes—

WELCOME TO THE LUMINOUS SEA

Unlike most places the Moira has come across or visited, the Luminous Sea is thus called due to its soft turquoise glow. While other parts of the Runoff consist of stars and planets, there is no life or anything remotely sentient found within this part of the universe. Yet, the most fascinating thing about the Luminous Sea is not the fact that it appears empty but for the sole reason of why the Captain and First Mate first approached it in the first place: it’s very reminiscent of Ingress energy. The ship is slow to move through the Luminous Sea, all those stationed in the Tower asked to observe and collect data to be sent to Navigation as well as those who have been reassigned to the Ingress. However, even stranger things are afoot the longer the Moira lingers within the ocean of blue-green space...

IN, OUT, AND ALL AROUND
Needless to say, things are now a little… different on board thanks to the anomalies caused by the energy of the Luminous Sea. What once had been a simple journey using MPS to navigate your way around the ship has now become a risk in Location Roulette. Perhaps you’re simply planning to head to the library, but when you walk through the door, you’ve somehow ended up in the middle of the Mess Hall. Or you’re fresh from a nice, long shower only to find yourself in the middle of the Cargo Bay wearing nothing but your towel! It seems that the space inside the Moira has rearranged itself to make life interesting for the crew. The changes happen at random and aren’t guaranteed to work the same in reverse. Sometimes, a doorway will work to take you back the correct way, and other times, it might deposit you in yet another part of the ship you hadn’t intended to visit. Also, be wary of those areas of the ship that have been sealed for the protection of the crew and never go anywhere alone. Because nothing good ever came of walking through a door to suddenly end up outside the Moira or within the room that holds Ploiatos.

50 SHADES OF AGE
While in the Luminous Sea, some members of the crew are likely to wake up and find themselves a changed person. Literally. The unstable nature of the energy that encompasses the Sea and its ability to bend both time and space means that those affected by it might find themselves suddenly years younger. Or even older. What’s more, some crew members who do become younger might possess no memories of have ever been on the ship and will see the Moira through brand new eyes. Those who find themselves jumping to a point further down their timeline won’t be affected as harshly, though they will be tarnished with age as time tends to do. What’s best for the new and old alike is to remain calm and continue on their daily routines until otherwise instructed by the Captain and First Mate. Hopefully leaving the Luminous Sea will wear away this reversal in time and return you to the person you once were.

[Oh.

She'd pegged him as someone not to catch on. Oh well, no matter. She stops and looks dramatically stunned and whips her head around as if looking for who's being yelled at.]

What? What's going on?
prorenataa: commission dnt (Oh come on)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-17 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Seriously?? ]

You took my nuti-bar, is what's going on. If you want one, there are plenty up at the counter, [ he pointed in that direction ] you don't have to just take mine.
eyasassy: (sassypants)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-17 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't got any nuti-bars.

[She raises her hands. See empty.]

But thanks for the tip, ser.
prorenataa: commission dnt (courser what are you doing?)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-17 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh for fuck's sake.

[ Adrien rolled his eyes and moved to stand up from where he'd been sitting.

Rather than approach her, he headed for the counter that he'd just pointed out. After all, he could just get another one. ]
eyasassy: (sassypants)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-17 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[audacity might as well be her middle name as she cheerfully follows him up to the counter to grab some of the coveted nuti-bars. She sniffles and grabs a handful. Despite the baggy clothes she wore it's apparent she is very thin, even beyond normal teen growth spurt changes.

She shoves a few in her bag before ripping one open and hungrily consuming it right at the counter.]
prorenataa: (hand in hair tense)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-17 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Though he was trying his utmost to ignore what was happening, it was almost impossible for him to completely turn away from the ravenous way she tore into that nutri-bar.

He's been living on them since rationing started; he knows they're not that tasty. ]

Just trying to choke it down as fast as you can so you don't have to taste it?
eyasassy: (glance down/being lectured)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a pause where she sneezes, wipes her nose on her sleeve, and then shrugs, cramming the rest of it into her mouth and grabbing another one.]

Beats stale bread.
prorenataa: (I may be drunk yes)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-18 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ Adrien seemed to give it a thought, then lifted a hand and waggled it back and forth in an 'eh close call' manner. ]

If you don't like it, why are you eating it? There are other foods available, you know?

[ Did she know? Had he ever seen her before? She was familiar, yet ... not? ]
eyasassy: (petulant)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-18 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
There's other food?

[She stops in the middle of nearly taking another bite out of the bar and stares at him.]

You're not just trying to play an elaborate joke on the new girl, are you?
prorenataa: dnt (you are an idiot)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-18 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ The look he gives her is along the lines of 'why the fuck would I do that'?? Before he gave his head a shake and motioned for her to follow him. ]

Come on. We're still on some rationing and I can't cook worth a fuck but we can probably put together a reasonable sandwich.
eyasassy: (sassypants)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-18 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
A reasonable sandwich?

What would an unreasonable sandwich entail?

[Okay but her stomach is rumbling and she maybe, possibly, hasn't eat in a few days before that.]
prorenataa: commission dnt (why the fuck did u wake me up)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-18 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
It would be a sandwich consisting of more than your fair share of rations and thus resulting in possible food waste.

[ Adrien responded as he began to rummage around in the galley. The bread was easy enough to find and the walk in yielded some meats and cheese, even a bit of lettuce (which he was going to assume was from the garden). It also yielded something round and apple like, which he assumed was also from the garden. ]

Here. [ He tossed the apple towards her as he carried the rest of his treasures towards a counter. ] Start with that.
eyasassy: (glance down/being lectured)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-18 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. If you're willing to take the fall for it, I'm willing to eat the sandwich.

[She reached out and caught the apple easily. She might not be good at lot of things but aside from magic, she had some killer reflexes. Which is why she could sometimes almost beat her father in boxing practice.

Her blue eyes widen at the fruit in her hand like she's never seen such a wonderful treasure.]

Winter is just ending back home, I haven't seen one of these in months.

[And she'll tuck into it.]
prorenataa: dnt (half face gentle)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-22 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not taking the fall for shit. This is a reasonable ration.

[ Sorry, Hawke but you're not getting a Dagwood sandwich.

With her chewing on the apple, and his not having to answer questions for the time being, Adrien lapsed on the whole conversation thing. He focused on preparing the sandwich, and while it wasn't huge he did manage to balance it so it would hopefully help fill her stomach.

At least till her teenage metabolism burned it off.

Sandwich made, he shoved it across the counter towards her, hopefully before she made a run at eating the apple core! ]
eyasassy: (petulant)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-22 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Maker, really? Unreasonable has never looked so reasonable. What a place this is.

[Okay. She was maybe kind of considering eating the apple core. Just a little bit. But it's quickly forgotten once she sees the sandwich. She grabs it and devours it quickly. It's probably a dumb idea and she'll probably spend most of the day feeling sick but it's so worth it not to feel hungry all the time.

As she's finishing picking at the crust and eating it she looks over at Adrien and the ingredients to make the sandwich.]

So. How many of these do we get in a ration?
prorenataa: (suit sleeve)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-22 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yep. He's glad he got his hand away from that sandwich before she'd mistaken his fingers for a side-dish.

Teenagers.

Adrien shook his head and began to build a second sandwich when it became apparent that she was going to wolf down the first one. He had put the final touches on it about the time that she polished off the crust and asked her question. ]

One per crew member. [ He answered, folding up the second sandwich into a napkin and shoving it across the counter towards her. ] Try to save that one for when you're hungry a little later, or else you're going to make yourself sick and throw it all back up.

[ Disgusting, yes but he wanted to make a point. He also began to put away all the ingredients he'd pulled out to make the food. ]
eyasassy: (glance down/being lectured)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-22 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to waste it by puking, don't worry. I'd use all my willpower to stop it.

[She takes it like it's a delicate little treasure and puts it into a safe spot in her bag where it won't get crushed. Then she notices him putting away the ingredients and quickly moved to closer to try and cut him off.]

Can you make one more? For my dog?
prorenataa: (how the fuck do buttons work)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-22 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah yes, the dog. ]

I've already given you a second ration. [ Adrien explained though he didn't indicate where that second ration had come from, and he would purposefully continue to pack up the ingredients. ]

But there are some bones, which I've been feeding to Courser. I'll get a couple of them for your dog.
eyasassy: (glance to the side)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-22 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd love a bone.

[Hawke nods, thinking that maybe she can sneak back in here and make a few more of those sandwiches to bring back to her family without getting caught. But after she she has to reach out and grab one of the napkins to sneeze and blow her nose into she becomes aware of what a pathetic figure she cuts. Back home it doesn't matter, there's plenty of pathetic ruffians running around on the streets and that elicits little sympathy. Especially when you have to worry about anyone who helps you finding out you're a mage. At least Hawke can take care of her self but people here are strangely willing to help.]

So do you always go out of your way to help people and dogs that steal from you?
prorenataa: (neck grab)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-22 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Whatever she did after they parted company was her call. At least, that's what he'd tell himself, as he disappeared into the walk-in to put away the sandwich fixings.

There was the sound of some rummaging and Courser looked particularly intrigued. It was an after thought but Adrien did, at least, have the sense to bring two bones with him when he walked back. He gave one to Courser first and then, when the bahari's was occupied with it, he held the other out towards Hawke.

As for her question, the doctor looked a little bemused and unsure how to answer for a moment. It was ... complicated and as such he went for the answer with the least amount of explanation. ]

I'd rather you didn't; in the future, if that could be arranged?
eyasassy: (sassypants)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not exactly in the position to be turning down free food.

[She opens her crossed arms as to indicate her small and malnourished form. Then she takes the bone before pulls her arms close to her sides once more. Her eyes watch him, deeply curious.]

Where I'm from, not many people go out of their way to help people like me, even when I'm begging and not stealing. So let's just say, I'm a little surprised.
prorenataa: (dontkillemyeahIknow)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-23 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[ Though he would insist he had the social skills of a rock, Adrien could see the opening for what it was; a request that he explain why he was being so nice to (in her eyes) a complete stranger.

He briefly considered if there was any way to explain it, before quickly discarded even making the attempt. At least when it came to his own, personal reasons. The answer he did give was, in it's way, just as honest. ]

People around here help one another out. Doesn't matter who you are or where you came from, we're all members of the same crew here.
eyasassy: (petulant)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[She gives him a deep look, like she's trying to look for any sense that he might be lying or just teasing her. That does sound like a genuine reason for helping. But then again crews like that sound like the come out of a story book or a tale that her father likes to tell about Antivan mercenaries.]

Even mages?
prorenataa: (Damn it fine I care)

[personal profile] prorenataa 2016-08-23 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Why not ma ... [ Adrien began, just as memories crashed to the surface. Anders and many of his arguments ... right.

Pausing his words, the doctor considered things for a moment and then started again. ]

This world, this ship, doesn't follow the same rules and social morals that your home world does. It doesn't follow the same rules of my home world or ... anybody you see.

There are some constants, such as we're not allowed to murder one another without retribution but that's anybody; not one species over another.

[ He paused again and then, after a breath he continued. ]

We're all stuck on this tin can together and that makes for a pretty level playing field when it comes to different shapes, sizes, abilities and beliefs.
eyasassy: (glance down/being lectured)

[personal profile] eyasassy 2016-08-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[As he talks Marian Hawke is silent. Her mind is moving a million miles an hour. A ship where everyone even mages can work together? Sounds too good to be true. Yet why would he lie? It makes sense that in a different place, things could be different. Tevinter wasn't that far away and even there things were different.]

...But how do we come here? I might be able to be here and eat two rations but my family is still back home. Waiting for me. I can't just leave them. They need me.
