But Kaz was a creature of hindsight anymore, a dweller on the past. And there was so much they could have done better. A drop in the bucket to oblige all the I told you sos that would inevitably happen. "We still have the ship for salvage. Have no idea what we'll do after that." Was this actually where they were headed?

"Someone good, I hope?" She smiles a little. I'd she knew who Miller was referring to she would grabbed been flattered, since she's come to rely on Ahab for advice and training.
For now though, she misses over his comment. "We'll search for civilization, find out where we are, maybe if we're lucky we can get communications online or at least find a way to broadcast a distress signal."
no subject
"Lets hope there are no allies of the Cadacuns or anyone out there listening. That's the last thing we'll need, after all that... Wait. Hold on. I need down."
He admitted defeat, letting go so he could sit. Holding onto his shoe, it seemed like the lower half of his shin just disappeared, pants leg going limp. If he turned off the prosthetic for a bit, the pain might stop. But even the break made him irritable at himself. He'd have to work on that. But just a couple of minutes sitting, that would help a little.
"Have you noticed anything unusual about the terrain yet while you've been scouting?"
no subject
"I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary, yet; it seems to be your standard forest. On the downside that also means I haven't noticed any signs of civilization or sentient population. At the very least, it's promising that we didn't accidentally kill anyone in the crash."
Animals, yes, but people that could turn against them? Hopefully no.
no subject
"Guess I shouldn't even joke about that. It can happen, after all."
He shook his head at the thought tiredly. After the violent mixed bag they'd been dealing with for whatever indeterminate period of time just passed, encountering things that were historic or fantastical had lost its novelty.
no subject
"I doubt it would; that would be giving us the advantage."

That was almost genuine optimism. Or what he could pretend was.
After watching her move her hair out of the way, knead at what looked like a painful crick, he offered his own hand. "Let me help with that. Can't imagine that suit is easy on you." And given the attacks, he'd wager she'd been wearing it for a while.
no subject
"If you can even get past my jets. Great in the air, not so well suited for the ground."
Even just sitting, though, affords her some small amount of relief that she'd been denying herself.
"I'm glad, too, that I am among capable people."
no subject
"You should probably take a longer break when we make it back. We had a lot to deal with. Whatever the hell that mess was." Thing after thing after thing. "Didn't seem like there was an end to 'em. And some people knew what they were, and other people didn't. Like they came from a lot of places."
Not that their techs had the means to figure out what was going on anymore.
no subject
"I may have recognized one of the creatures running about, but I wouldn't bet money on it. I do wonder if it was another issue with the Ingress. What do you think? Not that it really helps us now."
no subject

"It does seem too calculated to be coincidence. I wonder what the captains make of it." She's tarting to doubt them less and less, even if she had little faith in them to begin with.
no subject
"Hard to say. It didn't seem like they knew this place would be like this. Everything the Ingress is doing seems to be outside of their realm of experience."
He shifted his hand to pat her armored shoulder. "I think my leg's feeling a little better now."
no subject
At his prompting, she stands and rolls her head on her shoulders. "Good to hear, my neck feels a better as well. She waits for him to get his prosthetic situated, and then holds a hand out to help him up. "Let's go find your friends."
