It's not tight enough. You need to go to a higher notch.
[ The belt feels like it could easily slide down under the blood slicking her arm. Also, Adrien had taught her the proper way of most of the things they'd normally half-ass. ]
And Sully? The kids? What about Hawke and Tex? Have you heard anything? I didn't see any of them come by medical, just Tony. When he dropped...Adrien off.
no subject
[What he wouldn't give for Elena to have bigger arm muscles than he does right now. Or for him to have a smaller waist.]
They're fine as far as I know, but it's chaos out there.
[He tries to urge her to her feet, supporting her.]
You need to get to medical now.
no subject
You need to reset my shoulder, Nate. And the bleeding, in my pacdisk, I have medical supplies. I might bleed out before you get me there.
[ A hard reality, it needs to be addressed. ]
no subject
Okay. You—you tell me what I need to do. I know the theory, but...
[But he's never actually done it. He's seen dislocations, sure, but Sully's shady doctor friends in a variety of countries have done the actual fixing.]
no subject
[ They need to move. Elena doesn't care where; back to their room, medbay, it doesn't matter. There could be more Descendants lurking about, or worse.
There has to be a room nearby that's unlocked for them to take some shelter in. ]
Don't worry, I'll walk you through it.
[ The same way Adrien had walked her through it, but she won't tell him that. ]
no subject
[That almost makes it worse. Nate knows this is going to hurt her, and doing it under her direction? But they don't have any other option.
He keeps one arm around her protectively, one on his gun, and guides them into a spare room. Old storage, maybe, or used for a job he's not familiar with. He doesn't know and doesn't care.]
Okay. Let's—let's do this.
no subject
Elena pushes out a breath. ]
Take my arm, keep it at ninety degrees. Hold at the wrist and hold it under the elbow. Make sure the inside is tucked against the side of my body so it's in a neutral position.
You aren't going to be jerking on it or even forcing it back into place. But this is going to hurt like one mean sonuvabitch when you start— are you sure you're up for this?
[ She knows he doesn't want to do anything to cause her further pain, this is absolutely necessary if they're going to keep going, however. ]
no subject
I've gotta be, don't I?
[The only other option is likely to get her killed. And that's not an option.]
I'm ready.
[He takes her arm and does as she says, trying to be gentle until the right moment. And then, with her guidance and her nod of permission, he attempts to set things right.]
no subject
It works and there's a faint sound even as it drops back into place. Almost immediately the pain is gone and she lets out the breath she hadn't realized she was holding, the exhale shuddering in relief. She sags forward to focus on just breathing, light-hearted. ]
You did... You did good. Maybe you'll be able to join Adrien and I in medbay one of these days.
[ A weak, small smile. Now they need to worry about the other problems at hand. ]
no subject
I think I'll leave that to you. I'm better at blowing things up than fixing them.
["Three goddamn bullets" and all.]
You ready to move? I don't think we should stick around here.
lightheaded god typos god
[ Same could be said for how she looks. Doesn't look so hot or feel so hot. Beads of perspiration have begun to form at her brow and upper lip. She's as white as a sheet but Elena's pushing herself to stay there with him and not slip into unconsciousness. ]
—pacdisk. Medicated ointment. Gauze. [ Hesitation. ] ...there should also be a palm-sized box containing syringes and vials. You'll need to apply that first to numb the site of injury.
heheh
Nate doesn't love the idea of sticking a needle into his wife, but he's administered one before, and it's necessary. He tries to choose an injection site that will be effective but not hurt too much, but there's not much he can do. That accomplished, he makes short order of the gauze and ointment.]
Okay. I think this is all we can do now.
no subject
We need to go then. I don't know about you but I really don't want to run into another group of Descendents. Now I know how you probably felt when you were running around and I was trying to find the rope.
[ A weak chuckle. She moves to rise from the crate, reaching out for the wall for balance as she almost buckles— ]
Ooooookay, so let's not do any sudden movements...
[ Dizzy, so dizzy. Her head ducks as she focuses on her breathing—stay conscious stay awake stay awake. ]
no subject
Slow and steady. We'll make it.
[The difference between now and when he was running around waiting for her to help him up is that he had a shotgun and a lot of ammo, and also not a deep bite wound in his arm.]
You said you saw me before. [Dead.] What...did you see, exactly?
no subject
[ One more deep breath and she gets herself steadied with his aid. What else could be beyond the door? No chance in figuring that one out, his question catches her off guard. She closes her eyes, squeezes them shut. ]
Not... Not right now. [ Softer— ] ...I can't.
[ Getting out and getting back to the kids without suffering anything else, that's all Elena wants to do right now. She doesn't want to have to remember the way he'd looked in death.
Just one more thing to haunt her at night. ]
no subject
And she apparently can't answer him. It's probably for the best; aside from not wanting to cause her a different, they need to make their way to a more secure area of the ship, if one still exists.]
All right. Here.
[He pulls a spare pistol from his gun belt—lighter, with less recoil. It'll be easier for her to use if she has to.]
Just in case.
flails
[ Unless she'd lost track of which way went where. She'd have to count on him to lead the way, as long as they didn't have to navigate through all the bodies decorating the one hallway she'd been in.
Hopefully she didn't have to use the gun, but Elena would, if it came down to it. ]
I should be fine to walk. You lead, I'll take up the back.
no subject
[He doesn't want to turn his back on her, doesn't want to take his eyes off her for a minute in case some horrible yet stealthy thing comes up to take her away when he's not looking, but there's no choice for it, and that's probably paranoia.
And he trusts her to have his back. That'll have to be enough, until they reach safety. And it is—until they turn a corner.]
no subject
Her left arm is completely useless, she can't feel a thing from the shoulder down to her forearm.
Making sure she can still grip something, Elena grips the gun in her right hand a little tighter for reassurance.
They turn the corner and quickly, in spite of her injuries, she reaches to smack the side of her gun against her husband's arm, hissing. ]
Careful—!
[ Hard to drag him back around with only one arm. Hopefully it's enough to get him to come back into cover because holy shit, what the fuck is that? ]
no subject
Also, it's looking at them.]
Shit!
no subject
Can it smell fear? ]
Back up— slowly. [ She dares to breathe out, loud enough that he'll hear but that unrecognizable monster won't. ] No sudden movements...
[ God how she hopes it can't hear her heart hammering at the base of her throat. The sound of it is so loud in her ears, deafening. ]
no subject
[Slowly. Slooooowly. Don't show fear, don't look like a threat, don't give it a reason to—
—charge at them, and the thing is fucking fast. It happens in seconds, less than that, and there's no way to kill it in time, no way to get Elena away from it, it's coming for them both.
It happens on instinct. He turns, twists, and lifts—if the thing has any sentience, it definitely won't expect Elena to kick it in the face or whatever it's got.]
no subject
[ It charges and, Jesus, it's a terrifying sight; she half expects Nate to knock her aside by accident in trying to get out of the way, or flatten her against the wall. Or grab her by the arm like he had as the three of them crowded within the small light from the torch to keep from the walls.
Elena doesn't expect to be grabbed around the middle and hefted up. The motion is so sudden that he ends up jarring her arm and making her cry out in pain, body seizing tensely from it. And yet she instinctively draws her legs up as she presses back, kicking out and catching it hard in the throat (GO TEAM—).
A horrible choking sound is heard. The beast staggers back.
She's not doing so hot herself, breaths gasping as she half grips her gun and digs it into his arm in trying to grip onto him. She feels sick, dizzy, looks ashen gray and white.
Something along the lines of 'oh god—' are hastily stuttered. With those words the contents in her stomach follow as she leans off to the side over his arm, stomach heaving. ]
no subject
It's not the dominant emotion, but he's proud as hell of her—she's in pain and he hadn't planned the motion, hates to hurt her, but something in him knew it was the only option, and she rolled with it. Did a damn good job, too—it's staggering, half down, and it gives him the time he needs.
Nate sets her down quickly and fires four rounds into the beast's head with his free hand. It goes down for good.
He turns to her and is about to repeat his previous unvoiced sentiment out loud when she turns and vomits abruptly. Only a little backsplash lands on him.
Go...team...?]
no subject
She doesn't care to turn her head to look, she peers from the corner of her eye as she's sagging heavily against his arm, breathing hard, shaking. Good to know that's out of their way. Hopefully there won't be another or two more that come around sniffing them out.
Not quite ladylike of her but Elena gathers whatever is in her mouth and spits off to the side, grimacing at the lingering taste. Disgusting. ]
