accidentalqueen: (hold the throne in style)

Peter Maximoff

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-03 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
(OOC: continuing from here)

[ He's so earnest. It almost makes Medusa want to laugh. He can't know what an absurd idea it is, that he might enjoy spending time with her. Or that it might come as a shock to her to find he's just as willful and self-absorbed as the Pietro she knew.

No. Not as. Because she doesn't think Peter is half so malicious.
]

I am not old, but I know I am old enough that plenty of men would prefer to seek other company on the grounds that it is— [ A delicate pause. ] "Uncool" to "hang out" with anyone over the age of twenty-five.

[ Or well-over the age of twenty-five. Old enough to be his mother. But that is such a bizarre thought that Medusa immediately talks over it to make it go away. ]

Or is it just that you find it comforting to be around someone who is visibly and openly more than human, something other? The way that you are something more than human.
takeitslow: ([Speech])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-10-05 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course he means it honestly, earnestly. Peter's never had the patience to stick around someone he didn't actually like. Maybe for purposes of the greater good, but not for recreation like this.]

That's kind of a dumb age limit to put on things, especially around here. If I only hung out with people my own age, I'd be alone most of the time. [It wasn't like the ship had a wealth of teenagers for him to annoy.] You're not uncool. Have you seen what you can do with your hair? That's badass. Who wouldn't want to hang around you?

[That and his own sister here was much older than he was used to. Not quite Medusa's age, but old enough that he didn't have room to get squeamish about being around adults all the time.

Besides, even when the ship did have more teenagers, the adults were still the ones treating him better.]

That's not all of it. You are pretty nice, you know. I'd still come and bug you even if you were just human or whatever. But-

[He hesitates, wondering if this is going to sound rude.]

It's kind of nice, I guess. Even if there's aliens running around and I'm not the only different thing here, it's kind of nice to have someone who's... [He trails off, gestures between them.] I never knew many mutants at home. Even after this place it's still barely enough to count on one hand.
accidentalqueen: (this one is special)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-05 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
We have mirrors in my kingdom, Peter.

[ If he didn't look young, he'd show his age there— too young to have learned to be bitter about the world yet. Too young to be jaded instead of excited by the presence of another superhuman, the way she always remembered Pietro being. To think that it is all cool.

And this too: he thinks she is nice.
]

Someone who is from Earth, and different. [ The politest word; not what many people would say to either of them. And not the word most humans would use: freak. ] Even if I am Inhuman, and not a mutant. And someone who knows what it is to be different even on my own planet, my home. Something like that?
takeitslow: ([Wide])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-10-07 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
We have mirrors on the ship too. I'm just saying. Those people were dumb.

[He shrugs, looks a little embarrassed. He feels like he shouldn't be so interested in everyone different he meets- it's not like his entirely too human family ever disappointed him- but he is. It's in part why he'd followed Charles and Logan in the first place.

But it feels a little weird to be called on it.]

Something like that. It's not just that. Like I said, you seem pretty nice. But yeah. I've meet a few mutants here and everything, but it's still kind of cool to find someone who isn't human. Who gets it.
accidentalqueen: (party hair)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-11 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I get it. Contrary to what you may believe, I haven't spent my whole life locked in a tower away from the world. I have lived among humans. Even when they didn't mistake me for a mutant, I was still something they didn't understand, and therefore didn't like.

[ With her hair twisting like snakes in the thought, a coiling red mass, could anyone really fault them? With the way she rarely touches anything with her hands alone, when she can simply let one tendril pluck a glass from a tray as an obliging native passes and deposit the empty one. Without even so much as looking at it. ]

I will admit sometimes the feeling was mutual.
takeitslow: ([Side])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-10-14 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[He has to press his tongue to his teeth to keep from arguing that he doesn't believe she does. He thinks there's a lot of difference in being around people who are like them, as he thinks she must have been from the facts she's a queen of her race, and growing up completely surrounded by humans.

But it's not an argument he wants to start. A who's had it worse sort of thing never gets anywhere. While Peter is often eager to start a fight over his point, he doesn't like doing that amongst friends.

He just smiles tightly, stares out into the crowd.]

Why did you go live with humans? You make it sound like you guys have your own country.
accidentalqueen: (not so helpless)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-17 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
We do have our own country. New Attilan is a recognized sovereign nation, as was Attilan before it.

[ Her brow creases, furrowing between her eyebrows as her mouth pulls in a frown. Deep lines for a moment. A shadow of a bad dream. ]

There was an accident. I hit my head in a fall, and I woke up with no memory. You cannot return to a place if you no longer know it exists. So I was left to wander among humans for a few years.
takeitslow: ([Explain])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-10-20 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What happened to the old than you needed a new one?

[He almost feels bad for a moment; he obviously brought up something else she didn't really want to think about. He takes her answer with a shallow nod, holding back the urge to apologize.]

That sucks, honestly. And sounds kind of like Mom's soaps. [It's a lame attempt at humor.] I imagine it had to be pretty scary. Especially waking up and finding out about your powers.
accidentalqueen: (scarlet)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-21 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
What does soap have to do with it?

[ This is not her neatly avoiding discussing how her amnesia made her feel, because Medusa does not care to admit to weakness or emotion, and this is not her dodging the subject of how her husband blew up their city and then abandoned her to build a new one from the wreckage.

Though it's actually a legitimate question, and her hair quirks on either side of her face, curling around her expression in questioning loops for a second or two.
]
takeitslow: ([Disarmed])

[personal profile] takeitslow 2016-10-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Soaps, soap operas. You know, those girly shows that come on everyday? Lot's of people cheating on each other and lying and having babies. Mom's like them, but they're kind of dumb.

[To a teenage boy, at least. Peter likes a little more action. Or the cartoons his sister insists they watch together.]

It's not, like, actual soap. I don't really know why it's called that. Or operas either.

(OOC: continuing from here)

So you are...a soldier.

[ No, that isn't the word she wants. Her expression draws inward, lines between her eyebrows and around her mouth as she frowns to try and articulate the exact thought. Maybe another sip of wine (it's wine, isn't it?) will help. ]

No, more like a professional hero, it sounds.

[ Oh, Randac help her, is Hawke her world's version of an Avenger? Medusa shudders, the mass of her hair twitching inwards in a mental wince. ]

So you run around saving people, and then they throw you a party, and then you...move on to the next town that needs saving?

(OOC: continuing from here)]

I have been my husband's interpreter since we were both nineteen years old.

[ Strange to think that it was decades ago, now. The strength of the drink weakens her control over the tie between emotion and her powers; her hair curls over her shoulder as she involuntarily reaches to hug herself, an extra layer of protection. ]

Blackagar is mute by necessity. Some of his gifts are activated by speech. A whisper would reduce a city to atoms. So he learned to be silent, and it was my duty to speak in his place.

[ And it doesn't take a genius to see how such a situation might eventually come to trouble for both parties involved. ]

I am sure you know well how one aspect of your life can come to completely define it over time.
accidentalqueen: (do you have a better solution?)

Tony Stark (MCU)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-11 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
(OOC: continuing from here)

Doctor Doom. He is the dictator of Latveria. He goes around in a cape and full body armor and some kind of permanent metal mask. Do you think I would make up something so melodramatic just to try and trick you? There is no dignity in that.

[ And if Medusa has little left, at least she can cling to the idea of her dignity. ]

Do people not go around with dramatic names and garishly colorful clothes in your world? [ Says the woman generally in purple named Medusa. ] I know you must. You have a Loki.
arcreact: what kind of thug blows the compton area code exactly? this guy ((847) i blew a .213)

[personal profile] arcreact 2016-10-18 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Never heard of a Latveria, let alone its dictator. I mean, I don't think you're lying. I'm just judging really hard.

[ He gives a careless shrug. What can he say? His world's way behind on the horrendous fashion front. A lot of fronts, actually, but especially that. ]

I'm pretty sure Loki and Thor are the worst we've got. And Cap, for a hot minute there. But I think Lady Gaga still has all of them beat, so it's not actually much to write home about.
accidentalqueen: (I'm deeply convinced)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-19 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
What is a Lady Gaga?

[ If he sounded unconvinced by "Doctor Doom", Medusa looks equally skeptical about the idea of a "Lady Gaga". Her hair quirks, a loop rising lazily the way a cat's tail might curl in interest. ]

Did you just make that up?
arcreact: (1-210) MAYBE. ((210) r u doing depressed science again)

[personal profile] arcreact 2016-10-20 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ If only Medusa could see the associate fashion choices. ]

Lady Gaga? Not a supervillain, that's for damn sure. Unless...

[ There's a long pause as he lowers his drink, a look of mock dawning horror appearing on his face. Get him an Oscar. ]

Oh, god.
accidentalqueen: (well that happened)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-20 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ Tony what's wrong with your face. ]

What is it?

[ Has he come to some horrifying realization or is he having a sudden attack of the bowels? Either way it's perturbing enough for her hair to recoil into one mass, curling away from him. And she sets down her drink. ]
arcreact: alcohol's depressant capabilities to curtail my fever. SCIENCE! ((541) taking advantage of)

[personal profile] arcreact 2016-10-20 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yes, this is clearly a very serious and tense moment. Absolutely. He slumps back in his chair, as if recovering from something truly harrowing. ]

I just had a terrifying vision of future events, that's all.
accidentalqueen: (I don't think so)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
You should be terrified.

[ Whether he's being serious or not, she decides she doesn't care. Subsides back, and lets the tide of her hair roll forward over her shoulders and rise around her face again. Reclaiming her drink. ]

You have been exceedingly lucky.
arcreact: (i have a brilliant plan)

[personal profile] arcreact 2016-10-22 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Zero to a hundred there, Queenie.

Tony rolls his eyes and raises his glass back to his lips, only to find it empty. He wastes no time gesturing for a waiter to come over, tray in hand, but his attention is on Medusa. ]

We have a word for this, L'Oreal. It's called "buzzkill."
accidentalqueen: (I don't think so)

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-26 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[ Not so much as a twitch in her expression. Even if such blatant disrespect arouses the urge to muzzle him. At the very lease. ]

You always have many words. They are not all meaningful.

[ Medusa is not one to be impressed by talk. She doesn't even need words to have a conversation with the right person. ]

For Randac's sake!

[ She can dramatically heave all she wants. And Medusa— surely nobody would suspect that the way she flicks that heavy wet train of hair to shake some of the water away might deliberately splatter Hawke in retaliation. ]

How terrible do you have to be to need training in that?

[ (Which actually isn't as stupid as it sounds. Isn't that what all combat training is, really? Learning how not to get killed? Wasn't she taught how to see an assassin coming?) ]
accidentalqueen: (a little knocked down)

Jean Grey

[personal profile] accidentalqueen 2016-10-12 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
(OOC: continuing from here)

[ There are so many questions she wants to ask. Exhaustion cracks some of Medusa's mask, effort leaving the lines of her face etched deep. But despite the way the ocean drags at her limbs and her hair and how the salt clogs her nose and throat, there's a curious balloon located somewhere in the vicinity of her lungs. ]

We'll talk on shore.

[ Statement, not question; Medusa won't let it rest. But now she needs to focus, breast-stroking gamely through the waves. The hair she doesn't need to hold people's heads above the water trails loose on the water, weedy and increasingly tangled. It doesn't matter. So long as they all make it to land coughing and sputtering but alive, that's all that matters.

The rescued get unceremoniously thrust up onto the beach, safe on dry land. And Medusa stumbles in the surf, coughing relentlessly, her hair clinging to her face and her back and dragging along the wet sand when the tides goes out.

Danced, or gone on dates?

[ The former, certainly. Although possibly much more formal dances than what he knows; it's not like the Inhuman court was ever a hoppin' and happenin' place. But there was this one time, when she was much younger— ]

I haven't spent my whole life locked in a tower, Bucky. But diplomacy involves just as many long, extravagant parties as you can imagine. I would never forgive myself if I started an international incident because I stepped on someone's feet.

[ Though technically Medusa doesn't have to put her feet on the ground at all, if she doesn't want to. But her hair rises, a wave against her shoulders billowing loose against her back, keeping the ends from dragging on their floor or stray locks that might tangle around their feet. Her focus is all for him, for the moment. ]
