"Big things have small beginnings."

Things have been going relatively well for the crew of the Moira thus far despite their current circumstances. With D-E-L’s help, many supplies have already been gathered, and those with the necessary components have begun making much needed repairs. Yet, things aren’t as peaceful on Del Pascia as they might have seemed.

The resident facility AI has slowly started growing more and more unresponsive to questions, often answering in rather irritated tones and short, snippy answers. Still, no system glitches appear across the prison except for one minor detail: random doors and hallways suddenly lock and close for no reason and don’t open again for varying amounts of time—ranging from minutes to hours. Does this have anything to do with the unsettling feeling some crew members have experienced since stepping foot onto Del Pascia? Or is there a simple explanation that can be easily chalked up to as an accident?

DECONTAMINATION #2 ( 04.14 - 04.17 )
On the Moira, crew come and go without much hassle. They take a transporter to planets and moons and back again without any fuss... Until today. All crew that try to reboard the Moira coming back from Del Pascia will be denied access, a warning flashing on their MID - Decontamination Required for Entry. It’s a protocol that hasn’t been enacted before, and the MID offers no explanation as to why it is now. The transporter will seal and then be permitted to dock in the Cargo Bay, where the procedure will begin. All crew on the transporter have to dispose of their clothing by placing it inside hazardous waste bags located in a compartment near the front of the craft. After all clothing is stored, a gas-like substance will fill the transporter, breathable yet tasteless, and once it dissipates, crew will be free to go.

Other crew members will be waiting in the cargo bay with clothing and blankets, per the captain’s instruction, but no clear explanation will be given for this sudden new protocol aside from “potential health risks”.

D.ON'T E.VER L.EAVE ( 04.18 - 04.23 )
After the decontamination procedures for the Moira go off, the captains issue a ship-wide alert to let the crew know that the ship is picking up on something inside each person that boarded the space station. It is speculated that the crew came in contact with an unknown biological contaminant either during the station’s decontamination procedure or sometime after. At this point, they aren’t aware of what will happen to those that are carrying the contaminant, and the captains ask for anybody with experience to head to the Medbay to begin testing. Crew don’t appear to be in any danger, so they are allowed to continue gathering materials and supplies on board the space station at their discretion. (Every time they come and go, they will be made to go through the procedure described above).

Any crew remaining on Del Pascia will find that D-E-L is more vocal than ever before. It is answering questions, as well as trying to convince crew members to abandon the Moira and take up permanent residence aboard the space station.

FEAR ME, LOVE ME, DO AS I SAY ( 04.24 - 04.28 )
Like most unfortunate things, it seems everything happens all at once. The noises you heard, a step falling moments after yours or a rattle coming from the vents, become louder. You can’t place where they are coming from at first. You turn, you follow, but the search yields no results. And then, without any warning, it’s crystal clear as “they” begin to creep and move from within the shadows and ruined sections of Del Pascia: the prisoners and workers said to have been relocated by D-E-L. Their voice is one, regardless of how many gather, and they tell you, “You can be happy here” and “I can make you better” shortly after.

Worse than the way they speak in unison is the way they look. Mutated and deformed, their prison uniforms are in tatters and covered in various levels of the same blood that the crew has experienced during their time on Del Pascia while visiting the prison blocks. They don’t attack to kill; they only try to detain, to drag crew members further into the station and are methodical and precise in how they do this as if they’re being controlled by something greater and much smarter than them.

To those that fight, D-E-L’s voice will call out, telling the Moiran not to struggle, to stay here and be safe, be better. The AI explains that life there on Del Pascia is easy, peaceful, and nobody will cause you pain. Suffering is a thing of the past and loneliness is something you’ll never know again. The prisoners follow the command of the AI, its voice falling from their lips. D-E-L claims they feel no pain, no hunger. They are united in one purpose and are therefore free of all strife. Wouldn’t it be nice to be free like that?

As always, fearing for the safety of the crew (and despite the disrepair of the Moira from events prior), the captains ask for all those capable to assist with extracting those aboard Del Pascia as quickly as possible before D-E-L tries to lock them inside. Running, after all, is better than dying, and it’s certainly something everyone aboard the Moira has gotten quite good at.

[ There's probably a tipping point in there somewhere. Between heavy eyelids and the struggle to stay awake, the Hulk looks almost like he's getting knocked out by a drug or something akin to it. He jerks a little as he stands more upright, as if making an effort to stay as he is rather than turn back to Bruce, but he seems to get all the dizzier somehow.

He wobbles on his feet, stumbling to the side, turning away from Natasha and managing a couple of steps before he falls onto one knee, clinging to a wall nearby as his frame starts to turn smaller, any effort to stay as he is slipping away from him entirely. Much to Bruce's almost incredulous relief right now. ]

[ Without hesitation, Natasha follows his movement and stays close as she watches him change, ready to help him up and make sure he doesn't hurt himself. Realistically, she knows he can't really hurt himself all that badly, but it's already hard enough for him to go through this. ]

Bruce?

[ Green bleeds out of his skin at a steady pace, the transformation a lot smoother than the way he stumbles and falls on his side, his whole body shaking as if he were having a seizure. Muscles contract, legs and arms turn smaller, and from a monster Bruce ends up a small curled-up figure on the floor, the pants he'd been wearing ripped apart and evidently far too loose for him.

Her voice barely reaches him, and even so he has a hard time answering. He manages a shaky nod, sputtering and struggling with his ability to be coherent as he utters a single word. ]

[ As soon as he's more Bruce than Hulk, she's got one hand on his back and the other reaching for his arm to help him up. ]

Let's get you out of here.

[ He nods shakily, putting as much effort in lifting himself up onto his feet as possible, though still relying on her support to manage to stay upright. Unsurprisingly, his torn up pants fall to the ground. ]

Neat trick. [ His voice is a little shaky but hopefully it doesn't show much when he only says two words. ]

It comes in handy.

[ She notices the shaking, but she doesn't comment. It's unlikely that what he needs right now is Natasha making him feel even more exposed. Instead, she keeps her voice steady and lighter than she really feels as she takes some of his weight and helps him move. ]

Where should I take you?

[ Giving him some extra control seems in order, even if she doesn't want to call attention to that, either. ]

I can imagine.

[ He always feels weaker when he goes back to normal, more exposed too. He does appreciate Natasha not bringing that up or focusing on it at all, even if it doesn't make the feeling go away entirely. Besides, it helps they have other things to worry about right now, namely leaving this place before any of the creatures catch up to them again. ]

Transporters. I have— I brought clothes. [ Because he knew what he was going to come down here for, and even if he was expecting to have to go through decontamination once he went back, he still didn't want to have to go the whole trip from the station to the ship in nothing but his birthday suit. ] And we need to leave.

[ With a quick nod, she starts to guide him along, finding a balance between pushing him towards the transporters and not rushing him so much that he'll fall. Someone else might not push him that much, but she's sure that it's the lesser of two evils and she lets the conversation lapse into silence so that they can focus on moving and listen for anything approaching them. ]

[ Bruce appreciates the support, because otherwise he'd take twice as long to get to the transport, not to mention he'd likely have bumped against the walls and tripped over dents on the metal floor on his way. And that's even if he managed to get there before some of those creatures caught up to him.

They finally get to the transport, its door still open like Bruce had left it. He glances over his shoulder with some apt concern, relieved once they get inside, and he slowly lets go of Natasha so he can get to the pile of clothes he'd brought. ]

[ Natasha turns away out of respect to let him get dressed. She knows that this is hardly the worst experience he's had with the Hulk, but it's never simple or easy. Of course few things are with any of them and Natasha would be a liar to pretend she doesn't have her own complications. ]

[personal profile] hyperkinesia 2016-06-20 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ It doesn't take him particularly long to get dressed. A loose t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants are simple and easy enough to throw on, then he shoves his feet into a pair of sneakers and is good to go. Well, he still looks like a tired and beat-up mess, but at least with short hair there's no mess of curls, and he can stand on his own two feet a little better now.

Although he is kind of glad that he doesn't have to. ]

We should go back to the Moira. [ He leaves that open, in case Natasha came with someone else, or came looking for someone specific. Bruce thinks he got most everyone, but he could've missed someone. ]

[ She nods quickly. ] Yeah, we should. Our fight is over.

[ Repeating Bruce's words back to him when he can't remember them might seem morose, but sometimes she needs to find a little humor in the ugliest things. ]

[ He nods in agreement, unaware of the bitter humor in her expression. It is true, as far as he's concerned— at least he thinks the station's empty by now, he'd call that a good job on their part.

Taking one last look outside, he closes the transporter's door, readying it to fly them back to the Moira. ]

Alright, Hulk Whisperer. [ He smiles amusedly, taking a seat again, too tired to be standing up right now. ] Time to go.
