"I feel liberated when I'm doing it, and I want other people to feel liberated through it."

The Ingress has pulled you in. Your body experiences several sensations at once: being pushed forward as if a hand is resting on your back, momentary and startling blindness, a gentle ringing in your head. You have difficulty discerning whether it is hot or cold, but where you have been prodded is noticeably warmer than the rest of you. Some may suffer from dizziness while others are perfectly fine. Once equilibrium has been reestablished, you will notice you are standing on a long platform and that the room is filled with a soft cerulean light. It's slightly humid and dark despite the glow around you, and nothing is familiar. Shortly after, you are led out and toward the medbay.

Inside this room, you are given a physical scan and offered a contract to sign that states you are now part of the crew of the Moira with a specific job. This process consists of a complete work-up of medical history and current health, and afterwards, you are given your MID, a device that is integrated into your hand with only the slightest pinch. From there, you are guided out of the medbay and to your living quarters.

With the combined efforts of the crew, the terror plaguing the ship has been successfully removed from the Moira. Yet, it doesn’t come without consequences. Aside from the overall state of those aboard the ship, the Moira itself has taken considerable damage across various sections. Overall functionality seems stable for now, but with necessary repairs to be made and few supplies to actually make them with, the Captains have set a course for any nearby planet with the hope of finding what they need. However, that is much closer than it appears. As new arrivals begin coming through the Ingress, a message is received by those in the Tower and broadcast to everyone:
Please be advised. Your vessel is now entering Restricted Space. As per penal code 65208-A, only authorized personnel are to be admitted beyond this point. If necessary, further assistance will be provided once docked.
As there is little choice, the Captains instruct Navigation to proceed with caution. All transporters will be required to assist in taking those who volunteer to the main hub.
WELCOME TO CORRECTIONAL FACILITY DEL PASCIA

Del Pascia is one of many facilities across the universe built to maintain and rehabilitate its inhabitants. With a combined populace of both prisoners and employed civilians, it functions as both prison and living quarters. The central section of Del Pascia is divided into multiple floors that branch out into subdivisions of the facility—clearly and precisely labeled. For those contracted to work in the prison, Del Pas Main is home. There are cafeterias, common areas for exercise and general downtime, divided residences, and work stations. Beyond this area, each remaining wing of Del Pascia separates into cell blocks A through F with similar facilities available to the inmates. Varying degrees of criminals are brought to Del Pascia, ranging from maximum security to juvenile offenders, and security differs depending on which block is visited.

Yet, there is something peculiar about this prison upon further investigation: there are no living persons within Del Pascia. The AI, which runs and oversees all of Del Pascia, has made arrangements with the Moira so that those who wish may board and take what is needed to begin repairs. This program, while generally polite in nature, goes simply by the name D-E-L.
ENJOY YOUR STAY ... IN PRISON
Those who choose to go to Del Pascia will find themselves greeted by D-E-L. It has already agreed to terms with the Captains, allowing crew to strip nonessential supplies that aren’t needed since the station’s crew and prisoners were relocated due to funding cuts. The only condition placed upon this agreement is that any crew wishing to explore must undergo a mandatory decontamination before proceeding through the rest of Del Pascia. This process takes only minutes and is guaranteed to cause no physical side effects. Following this simple procedure, exploration is open with only warnings to be careful about damaging key systems. It is important to note that there are various security cameras located throughout the correctional facility, and it is not uncommon for D-E-L to comment or show concern for those exploring parts of Del Pascia.
DEATH BECOMES YOU
There is salvage to be found in all parts of the facility, including the cell blocks and infirmaries of the prison wings. However, there is something odd about these sectors, a strange charge in the air that follows you as you search for anything useful to bring back to the Moira. Perhaps it is the eyes of D-E-L watching? But then, after an indiscernible amount of time, it's like a switch is flipped. Suddenly, you are wearing your sins where anyone but you can see. For however much death you have wrought or committed, there will be blood on your hands—perhaps even further than that. This bizarre occurrence will appear as an almost digital skin and will not vanish until outside the cell blocks. If exploring the infirmaries for supplies, any and all health stats throughout your life will be visible and easy to read by anyone who happens to take an interest.

For those who have killed once or twice, they might find a red stain on their hands, but the higher the kill count will result in larger proportions of blood covering their arms and, in extreme cases, perhaps their entire body. The blood will vanish once you have left the prison wing, though you may occasionally see a flicker of the image while anywhere on the station. The same goes for health stats viewed in infirmary sections of Del Pascia.
WHAT WAS THAT SOUND?
Del Pascia is a very large station and has been abandoned for quite some time. D-E-L will regretfully inform anyone who asks that some nonessential areas have fallen into disrepair. It will warn that exploring these areas can be risky as it has no knowledge of what damage these sections have taken. Regardless of that, if you venture in, you’ll find that these sections are in rather bad shape. Exposed wiring sparks in the walls, a great variety of broken tools are thrown about, and it seems that every camera has been purposely broken. Venturing in further will yield valuable components for salvage, and yet... as before, you suspect you aren’t alone. It isn’t often, but sometimes, you might hear a step falling moments after yours or a rattle coming from the vents. Every time you go to investigate... whatever made the noise is gone.

Should the AI be queried about this, D-E-L will emphasize that all personnel and prisoners were removed and that there is no one on board except crew from the Moira.

[Liquid isn't going to go about pretending his life was any different from how it was. He'd learned to scavenge for everything at a young age, and the things he's learned and taught himself definitely did him well over the years.

Except for everything he'd learned about his genetics and everything, but still.]

It is pretty quiet. A shame. I'm sure it knows all sorts of things it won't give up. Perhaps someone'll stumble over some clues.

[He is absolutely here for more than talking! He just... likes talking. But he has been looking for more stuff for his current junk collection, so he'll go back to doing that if Snake's going to.]

Burning with curiosity as I am, it might be best to just get everything we need and get back before we find out the hard way there's a hideous monster lurking in the walls.

[ Snake glances up and glares at the nearest speaker that might project the AI's voice at any moment. Even if it did have useful information, Snake wouldn't be that interested in talking to it. The whole thing gives him the creeps.

Though his glare shifts to Liquid when his brother draws closer to start sorting through the same pile. Snake never gave him permission, but then again, this pile isn't his even if he found it first. Besides, in theory whatever they find will be going to the same place.

At Liquid's next comment, Snake shrugs. ]
Haven't run into any hideous monsters on this trip so far. [ As far as he's concerned, the whales don't count. ] Then again, I wouldn't put it past... [ Past what?

Without any better way to finish that sentence, Snake settles on: ]
... Space.

[Liquid's not exactly too keen on having a discussion with the AI either, but he would certainly love to figure out what the hell's going on around here. Still, maybe sometimes it's best to just endure the burning curiosity.

Not that that's any better.

As for the pile, Liquid didn't see Snake's name on it. Besides, he'd already sorted through his own pile, and what if there's something he wants in there? He's got a lot of things that'd work as nice blades, but he needs some handles. He just pokes through it, keeping an eye out for any choice materials.]

So far. [They could be due for it at any time. It could happen.

He snorts, glancing over at him.]

Space really is a bit more diverse than they'd like to lead you to believe, isn't it?

[ If there's anything that Snake has learned during his life, it's that getting the answers you want oftentimes leads to even more questions. He would like more information about what's going on here, of course; information is sometimes more his trade than bullets. Still, he knows that one way or another the truth is going to reveal itself.

Snake isn't superstitious enough to think that they just jinxed a giant monster attack by talking about it, but he also wouldn't be surprised if they end up on a planet that has some. It's probably just a matter of time.

At the question, Snake shrugs, tossing aside another dented up piece of metal. ]

Actually, I kind of thought it would be more diverse. A good majority of the people on this ship are humanoid.

[ But then there are giant robots and dragons and other bizarre things to mix it up. Just not as many as Snake would have expected. ]

[It is pretty hard to get answers in general, no matter how much one wants them. Still, if there's answers to be had, there will be those who search for them.

Liquid'll find something out sometime, he's sure.]

Must be a popular shape.

[He shrugs, sifting through some garbage he seems to have little interest in.]

But the ship isn't the whole of space, you know. And I've noticed a lot do seem to be coming from Earth. Different Earths, perhaps, but Earth nonetheless. Maybe the Ingress decided that's the best shape to pull people with and only likes to shake it up every once in a while. Who knows?

[He pulls a big hunk of plastic out of the pile and inspects it. Probably wouldn't look like anything special to most, but Liquid seems pleased with his find.]

I'm sure we'll reach the planet of unspeakable horrors eventually.
soldiergenes: (if you'll ever make it through)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ All they can do is speculate. Snake doesn't think that either of them have much in the way of scientific backgrounds. He's picked up a little from Otacon, but it just isn't his area.

So while Liquid's theory seems sound enough, it's not like Snake has any metric that he's measuring it against. Also, he refuses to admit that anything that his twin says actually sounds logical.

The fact that they're having a halfway normal conversation right now is baffling enough. ]

You're assuming that the Ingress has the ability to think... that it isn't just energy surges or something along those lines. There are people studying it, but I don't think they've come up with anything yet.

[ Or if they have, they haven't shared it with the class.

Snake extracts a sheet of metal that's in decent shape, and sorts it into his take-back pile. ]
saveyourserpent: (bothersome)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Liquid's never been good with science (obviously), and most of what he knows comes from the occasional science fiction novel. Not the best place to learn anything.]

I'm not assuming anything. It might not think on its own, but perhaps there's something to things being similar. Something it searches for. Something it's made to search for. Perhaps not. It was merely speculation.

[Hell, for all he knows it's magic. It could happen.]

I do love how we're just... traveling around with this piece of equipment no one knows anything about.

[He shrugs, barely looking at something before tossing it over to his pile. Liquid's personal pile is a rather eclectic mix of items, many of which can be easily put together into weapons. Or not so easily, but he'll do it anyway. He doesn't seem to care too much about shape or size or aesthetics, mostly testing for durability.]
soldiergenes: (in your soul)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ Don't think that Snake has missed the items that Liquid is gathering for himself and what they might be used for. It's like any soldier to make sure that they have at least five different weapons on them at all times, but it makes Snake uneasy all the same.

Liquid has behaved so far, but Snake doesn't think it would take all that much to change that. ]

I'm not happy about it either. But if the people who are experts at this kind of thing can't figure it out, then there's not much we can do about it.

[ Except hope that the Ingress doesn't end up malfunctioning and killing them all.

Snake never likes feeling as if his hands are tied, but it's happened a lot during his time on the Moira. Without another word, he pauses in his work to pull out a cigarette and light up. ]
saveyourserpent: (judge)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-25 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Liquid's not exactly hiding the fact that he's collecting all these materials. He's not afraid of Snake knowing what he's making, knowing that he has more than his fists to fight back if he has to.

Hell, maybe it's better that he knows it.

Despite his skills at hand-to-hand combat he feels better with at least a few knives on him, and since the Ingress ate his gun, that's been his go-to weapon. Just like when he was a kid.]

If anyone claims to be an expert here, I'm not buying it. Seems like they know just as much as I do.

[Scoffing, he pulls some more junk out of the pile. A crew full of people who don't know what they're doing hurtling through space in hopes of finding out. Sounds like the premise for some sort of comedy film.

But, hey, he's here instead of being dead, so maybe he can't complain too much. (He can complain too much.)

Glancing over at Snake when he lights up a cigarette, he makes a face.]

Still doing that, are you?
soldiergenes: (i'll say)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-25 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The fact that they've managed to exist on the ship together without getting into some sort of knock-down, drag-out fight should be considered a miracle. If it does happen, Snake knows exactly what he'll be contending with. He could end up with a blade stuck between his ribs.

It would have been nice to know that the captains, at least, had some idea of what they were doing, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. They don't even have that comfort. Then again, the Moira has managed to keep trucking so far. Hopefully it can keep it up until they reach their destination.

At Liquid's offended face and question, Snake only shrugs. He isn't here for anyone's judgment, least of all his twin's. ]

Why would I stop?

[ The stress in his life certainly hasn't lessened. ]
saveyourserpent: (side)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-26 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Liquid's doing a damn good job at behaving himself, if he does say so himself. He could be trying to fight his father or his brother over every little perceived slight, but instead he's been keeping to himself as best as he can. Which is incredibly difficult.

He should win a damn award.

He glances back to the pile of junk, sorting through various pieces that he ultimately moves aside to a 'reject' pile. He's got some criteria here, after all.]

Suppose I thought space would be a little less conducive to smoking.

[He can't really see the appeal, himself. And he's not going to give Snake the satisfaction of making him leave.]

How did you manage to survive the last planet?
soldiergenes: (out of your bad dreams)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Someone shouldn't get an award for common decency and having the maturity to stay away from people they don't like, as far as Snake's concerned. Liquid isn't even doing that last thing, seeing how he keeps finding reasons to bother him.

Liquid's question about their last stop is valid, though Snake only shrugs as he continues his sorting. It's a little eerie how quiet it is in this place and it doesn't seem natural, so if nothing else the conversation breaks through the silence. ]

I didn't spend much time down there. Just stayed on the ship. It's not like I had any interest in whale hunting.

[ Especially since the hunters' rhetoric about the whales having no intelligence had turned out to be a load of bull, as Snake had suspected. ]
saveyourserpent: (turn)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-27 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Apparently it's hard to avoid his family around here. So he's here for the next best thing: bothering them. At least, that seems to be his justification. He sure can't kill them without them coming back, after all.

Liquid might have a million reasons to justify things.

The silence doesn't bother him as much as it could, but he has been pretty focused on getting what he wants. Doesn't mean it won't bother him later.]

Neither did I, but I couldn't just stay on the ship the whole time. Sure, it was all... [He waves a hand.] new and exciting, but I had to get out too.

[Liquid had mostly preferred to watch the whales. It wasn't the sort of hunting that really appealed to him anyway. Not the right kind of fight, as far as he was concerned.]

And here, there's nothing to hunt but rubbish. At least that's useful.
soldiergenes: (i wanna hunt like david)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-27 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Somehow, Snake gets the feeling that Liquid will continue to walk around without a shirt on even on planets where they know very little about its atmosphere or any other possible dangers.

Well, that's not his problem. It had been ridiculous enough in Alaska, but ridiculous more or less sums Liquid up. ]

I'd take this over whales any day.

[ But he seems to have exhausted his pile, and he's getting to the point where he won't be able to carry anything else he might find in one trip.

So Snake stands and stretches, reaching down to gather up the pieces of metal into his arms. ]
saveyourserpent: (Default)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-05-28 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
[So far, Liquid's only been wearing a shirt when he has to. The second he can take off the uniform, off it goes.

It just works for him.]

The whales were interesting to look at, at least. Suppose they're all going to have their good and bad bits.

[He fully expects more things to complain about eventually. Now Liquid's pile's getting pretty big too, and while he can certainly make a separate trip, he doesn't want his stuff getting taken. He's got a good selection of materials. Looks like Snake's got the same idea. He's going to finish with this pile first, though.]

A bit of treasure hunting's not bad.
soldiergenes: (then i'll go out back)

[personal profile] soldiergenes 2016-05-31 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The whales probably would have been more interesting to look at if there hadn't also been a group of people trying to hunt them. Not that Snake had gotten too involved in that, after the mess that had been Emiri.

Liquid isn't making any move to head back with him, which suits Snake just fine. They've already gone too long making civil conversation -- there's no way it can last.

With a last lingering look at the worrisome pile that Liquid's putting together, Snake turns toward the hall that should lead back to the Moira. ]

I'm heading back. [ He could make some comment about staying out of trouble, but he holds his tongue, taking off without waiting for Liquid's reply. ]
