"I feel liberated when I'm doing it, and I want other people to feel liberated through it."
☄ ENJOY YOUR STAY ... IN PRISON Those who choose to go to Del Pascia will find themselves greeted by D-E-L. It has already agreed to terms with the Captains, allowing crew to strip nonessential supplies that aren’t needed since the station’s crew and prisoners were relocated due to funding cuts. The only condition placed upon this agreement is that any crew wishing to explore must undergo a mandatory decontamination before proceeding through the rest of Del Pascia. This process takes only minutes and is guaranteed to cause no physical side effects. Following this simple procedure, exploration is open with only warnings to be careful about damaging key systems. It is important to note that there are various security cameras located throughout the correctional facility, and it is not uncommon for D-E-L to comment or show concern for those exploring parts of Del Pascia. ☄ DEATH BECOMES YOU There is salvage to be found in all parts of the facility, including the cell blocks and infirmaries of the prison wings. However, there is something odd about these sectors, a strange charge in the air that follows you as you search for anything useful to bring back to the Moira. Perhaps it is the eyes of D-E-L watching? But then, after an indiscernible amount of time, it's like a switch is flipped. Suddenly, you are wearing your sins where anyone but you can see. For however much death you have wrought or committed, there will be blood on your hands—perhaps even further than that. This bizarre occurrence will appear as an almost digital skin and will not vanish until outside the cell blocks. If exploring the infirmaries for supplies, any and all health stats throughout your life will be visible and easy to read by anyone who happens to take an interest. ☄ WHAT WAS THAT SOUND? Del Pascia is a very large station and has been abandoned for quite some time. D-E-L will regretfully inform anyone who asks that some nonessential areas have fallen into disrepair. It will warn that exploring these areas can be risky as it has no knowledge of what damage these sections have taken. Regardless of that, if you venture in, you’ll find that these sections are in rather bad shape. Exposed wiring sparks in the walls, a great variety of broken tools are thrown about, and it seems that every camera has been purposely broken. Venturing in further will yield valuable components for salvage, and yet... as before, you suspect you aren’t alone. It isn’t often, but sometimes, you might hear a step falling moments after yours or a rattle coming from the vents. Every time you go to investigate... whatever made the noise is gone. |
Exploring
It doesn't stop her from looking around before speaking, making sure there's an open door nearby that she can run to if that knife comes into play.]
Hi. [She studies the woman's face, trying to place if she's seen her around the ship before. The girl had spent so much time on Ceta the last month, that she feels like she barely knows any of the Moira crew. She doesn't consider that a bad thing.] You look a little lost.
no subject
She does have enough decency to slip the knife away, keeping it so she can grab it easily if needed but out of sight so she doesn't freak out the little girl. She wants to protect innocent things, not scare them.]
Hey.
[She tries smiling, but it comes across as flat and shaky. So she quickly stops trying.]
I just got here, so I think looking lost is pretty accurate.
[Hopefully.]
no subject
Freshly stolen. Too bad. This place is makin' a habit of it.
[She sighs, shakes her head.]
The people at the Ingress tell ya their stupid little story about this place? How ya gotta work and they can't get ya home and blah blah blah?
no subject
They told me, but I wasn't listening. I was too busy trying to figure out a way home.
[The admission was soft, and she shifts her weight as she speaks, wincing a bit as the knife that's been tucked away pokes into her. So she pulls the knife back out again, before looking back over at the kid.]
So you were stolen too. You've got a weapon on you, right?
[As far as Cassandra's concerned, whoever is in charge here deserves to be stabbed by someone short and young. She's not about to give up her knife, and her body language shows that. But she figures she can help the girl find something, if it's needed. She's still not sure it isn't, even if no one else around seems as paranoid as she is.]
no subject
[But she can't say much about the lack of attention. She'd done the same thing, too busy seeing the similarities in this ship and the last place she'd been kidnapped to. It'd taken her weeks to figure out what the lay of the place was without the proper introduction.]
Worth lookin' into. Even if it's all a bunch of lies.
[She gives the woman a knowing smile.]
Expect me to tell ya? Just like that? Don't know ya well enough to go spillin' where my sharp things are. You might try to take 'em.
[It's a bluff. She has nothing on her and hasn't since arrival. But she's not about to announce that; she'd rather let people think she's got something to be worried about.]
no subject
[Cassandra offers the girl a smile of acceptance, since she recognizes a strong survivor when she meets one. She's not sure if the kid comes from the same place as her, but she's definitely been through some things to make her give smart answers.]
I don't expect you to tell me. Not unless you want me to help you find something to use. I know what it's like to be someplace unarmed.
[She tucks the knife into the bag she's wearing, since she really doesn't feel the need to carry it around while talking. She's seen kids this one's size kill an entire biker gang with their siblings and parents, so she knows how dangerous underestimating children are. This doesn't feel like a situation where she'll need to defend herself, though.]
I'm Cassandra, by the way.
no subject
Even what ya got might not do ya a whole lotta good here. [She's not ready to take strangers up on an offer to help quiet yet. It's something to discuss with Kobra, when he's calmer.] Seen plenty wanderin' around with laser guns. And people with much bigger powers. A knife won't help much against them.
[She's not ready to take help, but this is advice she can freely give. If the woman was to run into that strange skeletal creature like the girl had, a knife wouldn't be enough.]
You might want to find yourself something more study, Cassandra.
[She doesn't offer a name in exchange, though the introduction does earn a little wave.]
no subject
[She can't help but look worried at the mention of that. Her mind goes straight to Murphy, a zombie hybrid who is showing all kinds of freaky powers. She's doubting that's exactly what the kid means, though, and tries to relax. She finds she's not able to, and ends up shifting a little, clearly restless.]
Laser guns and big powers aren't things I have to worry about where I'm from.
[And since she's in space, of course there's laser guns. And people with crazy powers. And no way back home. ]
What kind of things have you seen here?
no subject
[Never mind that two of those had been monsters, the sentiment is still the same.]
No laser guns? At all? [That feels surprisingly more far fetched than anything else she's seen on the boat.] Didn't ya have any guns at all? What, just little knives?
no subject
We have guns. There's just not many of them left, and not enough ammo to go around. Things are -
[She pauses, trying to find the right word. There really isn't one.]
Rough. It's a hell of a lot nicer here than it is where I come from.
no subject
Ammo? Like bullets? [Its so old world it throws her. She doesn't think she's ever even seen a bullet in person.]
I wouldn't call it nicer. [Less fear, more food, an actual bed. But there's a cost to it.] You don't know what they plan on doing. These place might look all pretty, but what have ya got to pay for it?
no subject
I'm not gonna pay them anything. [She's quick to decide that, at least, and firm in her insisting. She gets that everything has a cost, but she's not about to let herself be vulnerable because some spaceship decides to pull her in and give her room and board.]
I don't mind working and staying here, but as soon as I find a way out, I'm leaving.
[There's a pause, almost as if she's looking over the girl and determining how useful she'd be in finding a way out.]
You can come with me, if you want.
no subject
[It's said bitterly, jaw tensing. Even leaving she thought would require a payment, in blood if her escape from BLI taught her anything.]
Nice of ya. [And surprising. It's the third time someone's offered to keep her in mind for an escape, but it's no less shocking however many times it happens. She knows t has something to do with her being small, young, and how that preyed on some part of people's better nature. It's a nice thought, that she somehow had a way for survival if she played the right part.
But it's not just her anymore.] But I got mine to worry about. Can't go runnin' off with just anybody.
no subject
[She shrugs, because while having a group here would be nice, it's not ever going to replace the group she's left behind back home.]
I've got people too. They're not here, but they could be someday.
[Her voice softens and lowers a little, and she seems almost sad about the fact she's here alone. And that right there explains the reason why she's so eager to find someone like the kid to connect to. They're both short and Cassandra knows that people probably look over a little girl because of her size and underestimate her, same as they do with Cassandra herself. She's been used and abused back home because people think she's not strong, and she doesn't want to see that happen to this girl here. ]
no subject
I can talk to him, see what he thinks. He'd wanna meet ya. Make sure you're shiny.
[As far as she's concerned, Kobra's word will reign law until they find another Killjoy. If he likes Cassandra, then the girl can have permission to trust her too.]
They could come sooner than ya think. [She says it gently, kindly.] Mine just showed up. Sometimes they're just fashionably late. Takin' their sweet time and makin' ya miss 'em. [And then, uncomfortably:] Might not be the best place for 'em though, getting stuck here. Not if ya got something to go home to.
no subject
[But that's enough, isn't it? She tells herself that it is, and that eventually Warren or 10k or one of the others will make their way through the Ingress, same as she did. Her desire for that to happen shouldn't be placed on someone else's shoulders though, so she gives the Girl a smile in gratitude for trying to make her feel better.]
How do you make sure someone's shiny, anyway?
[A subject change is better than talking about her group and feeling feelings. An even better distraction is just walking, which is exactly what she turns to do, motioning for the Girl to follow.]
no subject
[Though the girl is starting to rethink that, with her own people starting to show up. She wants her desert again, but not at what it could cost.]
Ya know, if they're shiny they're good. Can like 'em, maybe even trust 'em. Shiny.
[She lets Cassandra get a few steps away before she starts to follow at distance. She's not keen on staying to close within reach to anyone new.]
no subject
[She's starting to realize that a way out isn't easy, and that she may have to settle for life in space for a while until she finds a way off this ship and to do her own thing.]
You're right that this place looks nice, and it's safer than where I come from, but it's still the same as a prison. You need people in places like this.
[Home may be the worst place to try and survive, but it's still home. Her group's back there, and so is someone she cares for. She doesn't mind playing nice and doing what she has to do in order to survive here, but she finds it amusing that it's a kid that's opened her eyes to the fact she's going to need to escape as soon as she can.
For now, though. There's nothing wrong with exploring. She glances behind her to take notice of the fact that the girl is lingering behind, but doesn't motion for her to catch up. She knows what it's like to want to trail along behind someone you don't know.]
So, what do I call you, anyway? You never told me your name earlier.
no subject
It's safer for now. But who knows what's gonna happen?
[For a child that's usually so cheerful, she's pessimistic to the end. Life is always waiting fro the other shoe to drop, after all.
She huffs out a little sigh when Cassandra presses for a name. This conversation hasn't gotten anymore pleasant in the dozen times she's had to have it so far.]
You call me whatever ya wanna. Think up somethin' ya can remember and there ya go. [A pause.] I haven't got one yet.
no subject
[Names are an important part of your identity, after all. So she stops walking and waits for the Girl to catch up, and slowly moves to crouch down so they can be eye level. What she's about to tell her is important to Cassandra, and she doesn't want to feel like she's talking down to a kid.]
I know someone back home. He chose a name for himself, one that meant something to him. Ten Thousand didn't mean anything but a number, but to him it was important. You should pick something that's important to you, whenever you're ready. Alright?
[Smiling, she reaches up to try and place a hand atop the Girl's head in an almost affectionate manner.]
no subject
[Names are too important for that. She’s got time, years before her. She doesn’t want to get to choosing yet. Not all of her boys are here and they have to know first. At least they deserve the letter, whenever she makes her decision. If she ever does.
She’s gotten by just fine this long without one.]
I don’t pick the names. People find what they wanna call me or they just don’t call me anything at all.
[She pauses, takes in the words.]
That’s how it is in the Zones. You choose, the name. What you are. [She bites her lip, takes a step back to avoid the touch. Again, it’s not personal. Just the paranoia in her veins.] I can’t yet.
no subject
[She says it gently, smiling a little.]
Whenever you're ready. It's not a big deal.
[She feels a little bad that the kid took it as one, and even worse that she was making the girl uncomfortable by trying to touch her. So both of those hands of hers go up in the air, to show she means no harm.]
Come on. Forget names and all that shit. Show me around this place.
no subject
She smiles wryly at her hands.]
What haven't ya seen yet?
