Who: Papyrus, Sans, and YOU!
When: March 12th and onwards
Where: Medbay
What: Papyrus had a really bad idea that nearly got himself and Sans killed. Sans put out a call for help. This log is for the general followup/aftermath.
Warnings: Broken bones and hearts, cracked skulls, life draining, will add more if necessary.
((OOC Note: The translator event will affect the skeletons, so anyone tagging in on the 13th will be in for a lively game of charades!))

He stayed unconscious for the rest of the day and all through the night, and even when he woke up the next morning he was hardly his bright, cheerful self. His arm had been cast and put in a sling to help stabilize his broken clavicle, the pain was back with a vengeance, and this time it cut deeper than the physical.
Papyrus had been visiting Palatino for nearly two months. As soon as he'd heard the story of a monster in captivity, he'd tried to reach out, be a friend. He'd wanted him to feel included, cared about, less alone. And, over time, he thought that care might have blossomed into something more for them both, something deeper and giddy and exciting and scary all at once, but five minutes in the room had been enough to shatter that illusion. Palatino had tried to kill them. He'd gotten a read on his soul, and it was a hungry, bloodthirsty blank.
Definitely not a monster like him. Or Sans.
And that realization, which kept breaking over him the moment he tried to forget, hurt so much worse than the broken bones.
He sat up, wincing, and looked at the person sitting nearby in dull surprise.
"Oh... how long have you been sitting there?"
March 12th
"I hope I'm not disturbing you, dear. I just wanted to check on you."

He looks around the room, at Sans, then back at her.
"How long did I nap?"

It wasn't too long before Asriel went straight to the medbay to see if Papyrus was okay. When he found him still asleep, he waited patiently in a nearby chair.
As Papyrus wakes up and starts talking, relief washes over him. No death. Not this time.
"Not very long. How are you feeling, Papyrus?"
no subject
"Asriel, hello! I've... certainly had better days! Nyeh... heh..."
His voice is weak, and his heart isn't really in it, but he tries his best to sound cheerful.

He gives Papyrus a little smile, also hoping that his bedside manner helps, and shrugs. "About a minute." Holding up his scanner, he adds, "I have to check your vitals."
no subject
He stiffened a little, looking over the scanner. "Check away! I have nothing to hide."
He still had a lot of recovering to do, and his arm was still a painful mess, but he was trying.

13th, time 4 confusion
Perched on a chair and leaning forward to rest with arms crossed on a bit of bedside not taken up by Papyrus's lanky body, Frisk blinks and sits up when he pushes himself up and speaks.
...at least, they assume he spoke. What was that sudden racket?
"What'd you say?" Frisk certainly seems to speak, but...there doesn't seem to be any sound coming out.
omg yay
"Frisk? Did you... say something?"

anyway, this isn't about him. riptide, admittedly, still doesn't know papyrus that well, but the guy has the sort of personality you want to be around. he brightens up the room, just by existing. it's rare to find people (skeletons?) like that. it's what trailbreaker was trying to pretend to be.
he doesn't have a lot of energy left, but using a portion on his holoform instead of scaring everyone in the medibay seemed to be the better option.]
You know, technically, I'm actually sitting on my aft in the cargo bay. [the holoform grins, flickering slightly. riptide ignores it.] Buuut I guess about a minute ago.
[Damn He Is Glad his basic assumptions of papyrus not being dead and in the medibay were Correct.]

12th, late night
At the very least, she could sit up and monitor his vitals and make certain that a doctor was called if anything was amiss. But how was anyone supposed to really keep an eye on vitals when he was a walking, talking, bony skeleton? It wasn't as if he had blood or a heartbeat...did he?
So Papyrus would find her sitting there, simply watching, an unknown face to him. "Not long. I was just...making sure you were okay." A ton of visitors had been in earlier, on and off, for Sans and him. It wasn't so shocking considering what supposedly happened. "You feeling okay?"
no subject
"Well, I..." He didn't feel so hot, physically or emotionally, but he didn't want to worry her. She seemed nice, and he wanted to make a good first impression. He grinned at her, a bit more than he was obligated to as a skeleton. "I'm sure I'll be better in no time!"
12th because Sans told him to
He doesn't even realize he's in the right area, he's too busy trying to duck into the doorway. By crawling. Of course this means bashing his head against the doorframe a few times, and yelping as a result.
The poor surprised skeleton goes temporarily unnoticed, while he tries to finish easing his legs in through the door behind him.
no subject
As an amazing skeleton with impeccable manners, Papyrus manages not to laugh and instead gives him a bright smile.
"Impressive! You must really be determined to visit the injured and sick -- an admirable trait!"

March 13th because I love chaos
And if Papyrus is one of Toriel's people, then looking out for the skeleton is something Kain is going to take as a responsibility of his own.
.......Even if the broken communication system means he doesn't understand a single thing the skeleton is saying, leading to a blank look with brief hints of "Man I'm an idiot" before Kain shrugs, and almost tries to mime a span of time on a clock on the MID's time readout before shooting the device a dirty look for being digital and not showing analog hands.
If the gesture made any sense at all it wasn't a very big arc of time.
ohhh yes
"I don't think I've met you before! What's your name?"

She worries she might be getting attached.
Furiosa unfolds her hands as Papyrus sits up, placing her metal claw of a hand on the edge of the bed. She doesn't make a move to touch him, feeling awkward, and she straightens up a little bit.
"Probably an hour." She realizes, after a moment, that she had admitted to sitting there and watching him sleep. "...We haven't met, but I know your brother. My name is Furiosa."
no subject
"Well, then! It's high time you met the better skeleton, nyeh heh! I am known as the great-- ow," he tried to lift his broken arm to make some sort of gesture, but he quickly abandons that idea and slips it back into the sling. "Anyway, my name's Papyrus!"

late evening on 12th
"Not for long," J answers to the skeleton as he finally wakes up. She straightens her back and crosses her legs on the chair next to his bed.
"So, I heard you got roughed up. Care to tell me more about it?"
no subject
"I wanted to see Palatino," he started, before remembering she probably had no idea who that was. "The monster they locked away near the hold, I mean. I'd been visiting him for months, and I thought I'd gotten through to him, or maybe that we could... be..." It made him sad all over again, just thinking about it. He'd really liked him. More than he'd liked anyone before, except maybe the star of his favorite show. "But it turns out he's not really a monster, he's just a creature with a corrupted soul."

"Oh, hey. Yeah. I- haven't been here too long." He stands up, edging closer to Papyrus' side, the book held tightly in both hands at his chest. "I brought you something. I mean...I know it's probably not quite your age demographic but, you know. Options are pretty limited here and...I thought you'd get more use out of it stuck in here than me."
He shrugs nervously, placing the book on the bed next to Papyrus. It's more the sentiment he's shooting for than an actual valid gift.

He grins up at Ratchet, looking touched and actually a bit excited by it. "Ratchet, thank you! This is so cool! It's even got all sorts of different ships in it!"
