{ BEEP BEEP MEETING TIME }
Who: Team voltorb Voltron
When: Feb 10-12th somewhere in there
Where: HQ, in the Suites
What: Team meeting for "who goes where", and probably a goodbye or two.
Warnings: n/a
The last time the gang split up, resulting in death mazes, fainting spells and Hunk swearing. So, when the station began to tilt into shutdown, and there came talk of branching out, of finding the necessary resources, it was time for a meeting. Time to put everyone on the same page, make sure everyone was okay, and they had a plan.
They're not the only ones here ensuring the success or failure of the station, but they're still a team. Time to start functioning like one again.
He'll ping everyone's device. And hope the life support to their section of the Suites lasts long enough to get this done.
((ooc: just tag whoever whatever, this is basically just so everyone's on the same page about where people are going. Consider this a catch-all before everyone goes off on adventures.))

THE PLAN
He is absolutely including himself in the former group. Because he's going. He's not a tech head. He'd be better able to help if he left.
"I think, those of us who have the most experience working with station systems should stick behind. They're going to need all the help they can get here -- and we've got at least two of the smartest engineers I've ever met. Pitch in wherever you can. If things start to deteriorate, you're probably the people best able to get a connection through to us on the other side."
And he spreads his hands.
"But that's as far as I've got. Any other ideas?"

Things had suddenly taken a turn, and now the mission was more vital and not merely diplomatic. And with systems failing, who knows what might happen next? But at the very least, the Altean king is confident that this team of any would know how to take care of themselves and anything that might occur.
"I think that whichever each of decides upon, we have our work cut out for us. At least none of us will be alone, and certainly there will be those remaining to attempt to fix things here, and a great many unknowns awaiting those who venture out to find these others who share the station with us."
He looks around at them all, raising his hands to gesture towards them. "I suppose the real question is who's going and who's not?"
no subject
He also knows that, deep down, he'd be better off on the station. He can alter the properties of matter, make things that could help the engineering team while also tending to them.
His face is obviously contorted in thought and he doesn't readily speak up.
"I...I'm not sure what I should do."
His heart is in one place while his mind is in another.
no subject
You know what, she won't quietly mull over it. She'll bring it up as a point to discuss.
"I'm not sure how much help I would be able to provide on the station. I mean, I'm sure I wouldn't be sitting on my hands, but — I'm more familiar with operations, not mechanics."
But she looks at each of the three of them. They likely all want to leave, to take on the inherently more dangerous mission. Would they even dare consider letting her take on the risk on their behalf? She doesn't bring that up, but...
"... we should also consider this from the other angle, too. There's no one on this team that isn't suited for this sort of mission, but... which skills are going to be the most critical?"
Allura has the feeling she's not going to be at the top of that list, either, and not just for the sake of keeping her here. She might have experience in diplomacy, but not nearly as much as her father.

"Whoever stays behind is going to have to keep their head cool. Be able to move through the contaminated areas... and help whoever might have gotten stuck there."
He looks at the two Alteans. At Darin. He sincerely doubts he's going to be able to convince Alfor not to go -- if the fact the king was the Red Paladin said anything. But Allura... Darin... They could definitely handle themselves. That he doesn't doubt.
"It might help if the people who stay have some skills normal human beings don't. In addition to Pidge and Hunk helping with the repairs. Search and rescue is going to be just as important -- find anyone who might be stuck out there and bring them to the safe rooms."
His attention to Allura, for a moment, serious. "You and Pidge got me and Darin out of... the shadow situation. You could use the same technique again. Locate people." And then to Darin. "And you can carry them. You might not even need a mask out there."
That's his position on this whole mess, at the very least.

It's not hard to find the team leaders at the moment, either. So she catches what Shiro says to the others, suggesting exactly what she'd figured he would, and as logical as it is Pidge just can't help herself. She steps forward so that everyone that's gathered can see her once she starts speaking, her hands clenched tight at her sides.
"Why should anyone stay behind at all?" Her voice is as level and even as ever, but there's a tightness in her expression that betrays how uncomfortable she is. "If the entire station is as compromised as they say, having everyone evacuate makes sense, too."
no subject
"I think that in either case, a fair amount of any skills will be necessary, both technical and supportive. There is no easy decision here, as danger is going to be a factor on either side, here if nothing is done about the damages to this side of the station, and in the unknown that must be traversed, not to mention with whomever lies on the other side of this place."
Alfor looks towards Shiro, nodding at the suggestions he puts forth. He looks towards Darin and Allura. "As much as I would even suggest we all stay together, our abilities will better be put to use if we split them between these tasks. And I know you to be very capable, Allura. This is probably going to take everything and anything that we can offer. If you wish to go, then I'll stay back with the others. Either way, I have a feeling Darin will wish to accompany you, and we can trust you to do what needs must be done."
Glancing at Pidge, he shakes his head. "It doesn't seem nearly so simple. There's nowhere to evacuate and no means to do so. The Ingress seems to open on its own whim, and there's no guarantee that where it does so next will be hospitable. The station isn't so far gone, abandoning it doesn't seem like an option at the moment- it's all we have. So we must do what we need to to preserve it until something better."
no subject
But more importantly, Darin wasn't the leader here, despite this being some sort of 'leadership council.' That meant that he had to throw his support behind whatever decision seemed the soundest. Fortunately, it's one of the things Darin does best.
"I'll stay behind then. I'll keep everyone safe and offer up technical and physical support. See if maybe we can make some improvements to this place that can benefit all of the survivors as a whole."
He turns to Pidge then.
"I don't like splitting up either...but hey, look at it this way. We can help a lot of people if we utilize our specialties." At this point, he addresses the room.
"That's what we do. I'm tired of just surviving and scraping by. Let's do some good for a change. Let's get this place locked down and habitable and defensible. As grim as things look, I know we can turn this around completely with a little elbow grease."

GOODBYE(s)
dad
[Not much else to do but wish everyone luck, and head out.]
[So catch him before he does.]
8(
Eventually, though, she does speak up.]
I still don't like this.
child....
I know.
[And he gets why. He really does. But it also doesn't make it easier to do.]
They need you here, Pidge. If anyone can figure out how to bypass the damaged systems, it's you and Hunk.
no subject
..I know.
[But that will never mean that she's okay with watching half her team potentially leave forever. Again.]
I just... I really don't like it. It kind of feels like the odds are against us.
no subject
[From steady to uncertain.]
Don't they always? [A failed attempt at a laugh. The dark, gallows sort of humor lurking in his eyes.]
Remember what I told you? Back at the house. After... we talked about the future. You remember that, right?
no subject
About you disappearing. Right?

...Wouldn't be having second thoughts about this, would you?
[Hello, pot. Meet kettle.]
no subject
[Sorry, buddy. He's off in Leadership Mode. Which means wanting to keep the team together is... second priority to what they all have to do.]
no subject
I still don't know if I belong here or with you and His Majesty.
no subject
Like I said... people are going to need rescuing. That's what we need you two doing while Pidge and Hunk try to wrangle the systems.

Re: dad
You.. really have to do this?
no subject
[you were just gone]
Yeah. Yeah, I do. [But it still sounds resigned.] I promise, Hunk. I'm coming back.

no subject
[Well. He could disappear on them all. Like he was going to, apparently, if they ever went back home again. He stops his packing up, leaning heavily on his hands.]
... I know. [Quiet and tired and heavy.] But I can't do anything with repairs the way you and Pidge can. I can help get through doors, or walls, the way the away team can't.
It's... where I need to go.
no subject
[Hunk doesn't want to say it. Doesn't even want to think it. And he never would while Pidge was in the room; he knows how much she worries about it.]
... what if you don't come back?
