November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

He nods toward the ocean, for emphasis. It's mostly a joke.
"Yeah. They're our problem, back where my team and I come from."
no subject
"I'm assuming they're a pretty big problem." Just the way he says it...
no subject
More flat humor. But hey. He's trying. That has to count for something, right?
"Enough to cause a war, yeah."
no subject
Are there real sentient fish out there? Possibly. But he's not thinking about them right now.
He grimaces. "I'm sorry. That's a shit position to be in."
no subject
They're kidding around here, right? This part is a joke, isn't it?
A shrug, leaning back against the rail. "I could say the same for you."
no subject
Mostly joking. Seahorses don't have opposable thumbs.
Wash shrugs. The war has been going on since before I was born. It's hard to think of it being any other way so maybe it doesn't have the same effect."
no subject
Maybe seahorses can type.
"Maybe not, but I can still sympathize. There are a lot of people in the universe we're in who have that as their daily life, too."
no subject
Like maybe humanity was just a bad idea all round.
no subject
A shrug. Maybe he's still too idealistic for all this. But he's got to believe in people -- otherwise it all falls apart, doesn't it?
no subject
He sighs softly. "Well, that got depressing real quickly."
no subject
He shakes his head, pushing a hand through his hair where he's still leaning against the rail. Then looks back to the other man.
"Sorry -- Guess talking about intergalactic war has that effect, huh?"
no subject
It doesn't mean it's not still fucking awful though.
"I'm Wash by the way. Agent Washington."
no subject
His head tilts for a second. Thoughtfully. Agent...
"You don't happen to work with someone named North, do you?"
no subject
"I know him and the rest. I don't work with them though."
no subject
In his head, anyway. The sudden tension is a little concerning.
"I'm Shiro."
no subject
He manages a small smile. "They did mention you. It's good to meet you."
no subject
At least, Shiro is fairly sure that's what Maine considers him in return. The big guy was a man of few words -- but he'd never indicated otherwise.
"Now I'm worried. Mentioned the good bits, right?"
no subject
He hadn't paid all that much attention. He'd sort of shut down when North had mentioned it. He wasn't part of their team so it didn't matter what he thought of who they worked with.
no subject
His hands curl around the rail. Metal and real. "So nothing like what happened on Thisavrou happens again."
no subject
"Not gonna argue with that. It was... messed up."
no subject
There's a but in there.
"But what happened to the civilians living there wasn't right."
no subject
He grimaces. "No. No-one should see their own planet get destroyed."
He's seen it happen too many times.
no subject
Speaking from experience in at least one of those areas, himself.
His eyes flick down to the water -- thinking of Allura and Coran. Alfor, too, all things considered. "No. They shouldn't."
no subject
Or possibly terrible taste in friends and shady military organisations. Either way.
"Hopefully it won't happen again here, although we don't know what happened to the thing that did destroy the planet."
no subject
Not literally. But it's close.
"All the more reason to keep running security patrols. Just in case it decides to make a comeback."
