November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

It could. ]
The mind-reading might, or something else?
[ In his experience, the telepathy itself doesn't hurt. It's the truth invariably revealed. ]
And I don't scare easy. But in any case, Eddie, I'm not about to do anything that makes you uncomfortable.
[ Because doing so, knowing he's done so, is comparable to any fright. ]

That's it though! Everyone has- something they're afraid of. It's- that's what It is.
(Eddie talks a bit frantically with his hands before curling them together. He walks closer towards Charles, feeling his anxiety wrecking through him. He leans forward and talks very quietly.)
In the town I grew up in, there was this thing that woke up every twenty-seven years or so and would kill a bunch of children. Ate them. Lured them out with fear. It-...It knew what you were most afraid of. It was usually a clown- but It could change. It'd use it to...
(His throat knots up and he finds that he can't quite finish talking. He quickly shakes his head, looking away from Charles.)
It could always find us. Killed my best friend's little brother. Used his photo album to hurt Bill later- found him through the pictures. I don't really know how It works- but I'm scared if you look in my mind, It might hurt you, or It might come here. It almost got us all, but we- I think we beat it. But I don't know.

He's heard of things like this only tangentially, in terms of psychic entities--which does explain the boy's immediate fear--but never something that broached the physical. That is only all the more worrying.
Charles leans forward himself, reaching out with a hand to the boy's shoulder as he looks away. ]
You have my word. Nothing without your permission. And if "It" does, somehow, find a way here, we'll take care of it.
[ Even if he's not...entirely sure how. They always find a way. ]

Frankly, Eddie never thought too hard about why it came as a clown. He tried not to think about it at all if he could help it (which he rarely could anymore).
He's consumed with the thought enough that Eddie startles just a little when Charles suddenly touches him. Once he realizes it's Charles though, he relaxes entirely. He had gotten too caught up in thinking about It again.)
Thank you. (Said more seriously, because Charles seemed like an adult who actually listened. That's when Eddie noticed: Charles was taking him seriously. He wasn't calling him crazy, or getting that unsettling glazed look that the adults got back in Derry. Like how Bev's daddy never noticed the blood.
Charles noticed this, he believed Eddie, and as this sank into Eddie, his eyes stung with relief.)
You believe me. (Eddie's voice cracks a little, and he can't help himself. Maybe it's rude to do, but Eddie's just this kind of kid, and his emotions get the better of him at times. He comes in at Charles, wrapping stick-thin arms around his neck and pressing his face into his shoulder in a tight hug. The chair made it a little awkward, but Eddie didn't care. An adult believed him.)
None of the adults in Derry ever believed It. They couldn't- they couldn't see It. They didn't even care about the kids- they'd just paste up new pictures every time one went missing and no one was trying and-they couldn't see the--
(His voice catches again and he pulls away, scrubbing his hands over his face to try and calm himself down. It was important to Eddie, so important to finally have someone like Charles, a proper grown up, look at this seriously.)
I...don't know how possible that is. But I'm glad that you're all as strong as you are.
