November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

on kaittos
At least, until it’s Rinzler who nearly crashes into him en route to the exit. Alan manages to turn at the sight of red-orange light just in time for Rinzler to stop short at the sight of his user’s surprised face.
The reactions come in a flurry. A flashbulb of recognition. A bright phosphor of instinctive gladness. Light growing clouded as concern shades Alan’s expression.]
Rinzler? Is everything alright?
no subject
Still, that's no excuse for failing to notice this ID.
Alan's recognition is a wash of warmth. Rinzler's comes in the form of a sharp freeze, sound ratcheting as he steps back from the almost collision. He's shrinking in towards defaults when the question parses, adding its own branched imperatives to the data flooding Rinzler's queue. The helmet jerks in a rapid nod (he has to function) before stalling halfway through (he shouldn't lie).
...is Alan-one affected too?]
Status?
no subject
I’m fine. [Alan’s gaze drifts over Rinzler’s shoulders, sudden wariness as bright as a beacon. There are only two people Alan has ever known Rinzler to flee from, after all. He looks back at Rinzler and his program doesn’t need any supernatural abilities to know Alan doesn’t buy his answer. But there’s no judgment, no disapproval. Just vigilance and a practiced, parental protectiveness.]
If there’s trouble, don’t let me slow you down.
[He hadn’t missed that Rinzler is clearly making a beeline for the portals.]
no subject
Oh.
Rinzler shouldn't be seeing this. Rinzler shouldn't be scanning (not his user), shouldn't be wasting Alan-one's concern. Especially under false pretenses. The black mask twitches sideways, shame curving the slope of his frame a little further as Rinzler struggles for reply.]
Not—no threats.
[The most marginal duck of his helmet.]
Glitched.
no subject
Glitched in what way?
no subject
Inputs.
Can't stop— [Scanning? Reading? He retries, tone flattening. Formal. Specific.] Uncontrolled data draw in proximity.
no subject
Let’s get back to Avagi and we’ll see if it stops on its own—and let me know if anything changes on the way.
[If such a “glitch” could occur out of the blue, there’s no guarantee that it might not mutate just as unexpectedly.]
no subject
Stiff surprise gives way to a nod: acknowledged, he will. Rinzler will lag slightly for Alan-one to lead, but the tense urgency clings to every motion, dampened only slightly by his default hunch.
He wants this to be over with.]
no subject
Unfortunately, the possibility of being subtle is virtually nil when your program can see your emotions with all the clarity of a torch-bright beacon.
After a few more minutes of walking, they finally reach the portals. Alan turns to Rinzler and manages a worried smile.]
You go on ahead. I’ll be right behind you
[At least Alan’s sincerity is just as easy to see.]
no subject
But his user's judgement isn't hard to guess.
Mask low. Hands open at each side. Rinzler shrinks into defaults as they walk, and if he can't completely block the data, at least his downward stare limits input to periphery. When Alan-one turns back, he hesitates only a moment before ducking his head and stepping forward.
Please let it stop here.]
no subject
Alan takes a step back, giving his program room. If Rinzler turns around, he'll see the concern is still there, though now there's a hopeful aura to it.]
How do you feel?
no subject
Functional.
...Still affected.
[Disappointment, he can anticipate. The enforcer braces.]
no subject
Okay, [Alan sighs, brow creased with worry.] Maybe you should tell me a little bit more about this “effect,” then. You said something about uncontrolled data draw; what kind of data did you mean?
[There's no judgment to the question—just that same intent focus lit by faint sparks of earnest anxiety. Alan wants to help. At the very least, he wants to know his program isn't in danger.]
no subject
(Still.)]
Emotional values.
no subject
You’re picking up data on emotions? [Alan hadn’t even thought that was possible. After all, it wasn’t every day that a glitch manifested as telepathy. Surprise gives way to curiosity, still threaded with concern.]
How does that translate into input? Can you feel what I'm feeling or is it more like a general awareness?
no subject
Awareness.
[Mostly. Sort of. That isn't right; isn't all, but he's not sure how else to put the terms, especially to a user.]
Impressions transmitted without— [not without connection in this case, but] —active feed.
no subject
Perhaps now isn’t the time, but the scientist in Alan can’t resist.]
Can you tell what emotions I’m feeling now?
[Wonder. Bewilderment. And, as ever, a lingering sense of worry for his program’s well-being. Rinzler’s new awareness doesn’t sound actively harmful, but to Alan, anything stemming from a possible alteration to Rinzler’s code is cause for concern.]
