November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

[ He switches to water. The atmosphere on the planet is quite dry, and he can't risk becoming too relaxed. ]
Do I get to know what's on the menu, or is it going to be a surprise?
no subject
Anything you particularly love that maybe I know how t'make? [She blinks her big green eyes at him before taking another drink of her beer. She'd like to think she looked mature and cool.]
no subject
You've only just arrived. I've been eating protein cubes for a month. Noodley and chicken-adjacent sounds incredible right now.
[ He finishes his beer and soon is in a deep conversation with one of the cooks, frequently referring them to Rogue as well so she gives her opinion as well.
He flashes a grin that borders dangerously on sly. ]
What sort of dessert do you want?
no subject
[Rogue meets his eyes, her lips mimicking that dangerous smirk. Since Erik wasn't on the menu for her ever, she'd have to make due] Oh gosh- I had this great not-cold ice cream, but right now I think I could go for something a bit more rich.
[was that a come-on? Probably, but she wasn't sure. She was awful at this flirting thing.]
...Unless you have any suggestions?
no subject
[ She grins back at him and he realizes he overstepped. Damn. This is going to be harder than he thought. ]
Wouldn't not-cold ice cream be... milk?
[ He's so confused by the concept he misses the subtext. ]
As for suggestions... [ He waves the waiter over and gets into a quite intense discussion about what exactly it is that he wants. Finally satisfied, or as close as he's going to get under the circumstances. ]
There is a fruit they have that is very close to mango, but more floral. And a very silky sort of custard and if they understood me correctly, these will be combined in a way that's similar to a bombe glacée. [ He shakes his head with a wry laugh. ] They're interested but the cultural barrier is difficult to surmount.
no subject
[Rogue smiles at him, leaning in to look at the food as he describes it. The problem is she has no idea what the hell the last thing he mentioned.] A Bombay Glace? What's that? I've never had one.
no subject
Ah yes, Eddie is a fine lad. A bit afraid of his own shadow but bright and inquisitive.
[ The chef delivers the dessert and it looks right from the outside. ]
A bombe glacée. [ He repeats, not an aggressive correction. Simply repeating so she can hear it again. ] It's a French delicacy, usually made with ice cream. They shape it into a dome and cover it with meringue and usually some kind of chocolate or something. So really what this has most in common with the original is the shape, but if I explained it right...
[ He takes a spoon and uses the side of it to cut through the pinkish fruit to reveal the creamy custard inside. He grins and turns it toward her. ]
There.
no subject
Today was a day for fun, not of moping.]
He really is. Kinda a breath of fresh air, I guess.
[Rogue looks at the desert, watching the way he spoons through it. It sounds delicious, both the actual desert and what's out in front of her.] Let's see how it tastes, shall we?
[She uses her own spoon to take a small piece of the dessert, talking all the while:] That's why it sounded a little familiar- I used to take French. [She uses the opportunity to take the bite.]
Oh- wow! It's weird but it's... really good.
no subject
He is.
[ Nina was air and sunlight and goodness and she is gone. It is his fault.
But here was a pretty girl who was enjoying his company, for reasons he couldn't begin to fathom but was not man enough to turn down. And she is experiencing something new and exciting, as simple a thing as it is, and he focuses on this. ]
"Ah, vous avez étudié le français? It is a very useful language in the kitchen.
I'm glad you like it. I thought the colors would make a nice contrast.
no subject
Regardless, it's time for a subject change.]
Oui, de retour au Mississippi! [So he speaks French. Wow, he does not disappoint at all.]
They do. You try it. [She gestures at the desert.]
no subject
[ He samples it, frowning in thought. And eventually shaking his head. ]
The flavors are complementary, but textures are too similar. It's not bad, but it's not as close to a bombe glacée as I was hoping for.
no subject
[She watches him taste the desert, surprisingly intrigued by his reaction.]
Well, I ain't had one before, so as far as I'm concerned, it's perfect.
no subject
I should appreciate it for what it is, and not try to force it to be something it is not.
[ He smiles faintly and tries another spoonful. ]
I suppose it's not bad.
no subject
Thank you, by the way, Erik. For a great meal. And the cooks, as well. [she gestures at the Kaittan.]
no subject
[ He glances around, as if remembering where it is that he is, and the other tasks he had hoped to accomplish. ]
