November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

To be fair, at least he has an important reason to be one of those teens. Consuming enough food to be able to teleport — multiple times a day, usually — isn't all it's cracked up to be. He carries snacks with him or at least has some nearby for a reason.]
Twelve, huh? Your final year of being a preteen. [A grin.] How's it feel?
[His own end of that time hadn't seemed much different; he'd been more than a little thrilled about becoming a teenager the following year.] You're welcome. [After the cake has been taken, he withdraws, laces both hands together across his thighs.
Then, Eddie asks his age. He inhales sharply, holds the breath a moment then sighs it back out.] I, ah— [Hm, why's this hard to admit?] I'm eighteen now. A real, true adult. [Perhaps, it's because he feels like he has only been pretending to know what he's doing most of the time.
His impulsiveness has gotten the best of him and far more than he would like to admit. Now, being officially of age to start answering for his actions seems-- well, terrifying. He's going to have to start behaving like he's grown, which means controlling silly things like acting without forethought.
It's a damn good thing Eddie is there or he might've gotten too twisted up in his own problems to remember: birthday parties.] Mmn, I wouldn't say it has to be champagne, but— [he cuts off, turning to dig into the bag once more. This time, the azure-skinned boy removes a couple of small bottles, filled with a shimmery liquid. (Non-alcoholic, mind you.)] I have these?

Ugh. I don't know. (Eddie didn't feel significantly older. He hasn't even grown another inch or anything either. His body was awfully stupid, and Eddie spares his legs a resentful stare.) Frustrating, mostly. And scary?
(He feels like Kurt is just barely young enough to understand what Eddie might mean by this.)
It's like. Adults are always going on about how I'm gonna start being a 'man' soon, and I don't even know what that's supposed to mean. Like, facial hair? Taxes? Marriage? I'm not ready for anything like that!
(His voice squeaks out of him. And hey, once Kurt says that he was turning eighteen- finally turning into a real adult, Eddie thinks that of all the teenagers here, Kurt really would get it. Twelve was one thing, but Eddie knew that eighteen was The Big Birthday. That's the birthday where suddenly you could leave your mom's house, where the war could draft you. You could also buy cigarettes legally.
So Eddie reaches out and gives Kurt's arm a gentle pat. It's meant to be reassuring as humanly possible.)
I'm sorry.
(He means it too- as much is clear from his little tangent just now. Growing up was horrifying. He couldn't imagine what he'd feel if he was turning eighteen.
Now that is a weird looking drink. Eddie's nose wrinkles up and he looks rather skeptical.)
What are they?

A snort escapes the blue boy before he can stop it. Nonetheless, he raises his hand, cups it around his face as he clears his throat.] Thankfully, I have yet to worry about any of those. At least they are able to be handled. [Unlike other things that he doesn't mention.
The touch on his arm earns a raised eyebrow and a tilt of the head, broad iridescent eyes blinking with bewilderment.] It's okay, [he assures.] Bound to happen to everyone eventually.
[Eddie appears to be just as stressed, if not a little more, although he isn't the one that's an adult. Kurt seems confused at the notion, but appreciates the thought.
He turns back to the drinks in his hands.] I don't know. Someone gave them to me in exchange for some things I had.
They are reminiscent of fruit juices.
