November World Travel
Who: Anyone and everyone
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
[While the Trials themselves are intended to be logged here, an update will offer more information on the Awakening experienced by the successful. This will come out on November 23rd! For questions, please head to the recent mod update.]
When: Nov. 9 and onward
Where: Kaittos
What: A new path opens up
Without warning, the silvery light that appeared to bring new people from other worlds and old items from home appears once more, and this time it lingers, forming portals as tall as an average human near each of the three Ingress shrines. The location does not appear to be a coincidence; this time, the portals are translucent, revealing the destination on the other side. Instead of taking Avagi's residents to the future, it will take them to another world. If they step through the portal, travelers will find something far different from where they've been living this last month: Kaittos, a peaceful world containing one large land mass and a scattering of lived-on islands across a clear blue ocean. On the mainland, a large city-state occupies the central region and southern coast and resembles what some travelers from some versions of Earth might know of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. ![]() Bustling and lively, the city is clean and well provided-for due to the temperate climate and the bountiful natural resources found on its northern side; orchards, farms and forests extend into the distance, butting up against a small mountain range. The technology level is low compared to Avagi, with carriages and candles in place rather than cars and electric lights, but the craftsmen of the world have managed some very impressive mechanical feats. Kaittans, the local residents of the world appear somewhat humanoid, but the bipedal race has hooves rather than feet, silvery skin and three eyes with vertical pupils. Although there is no sign of any other sentient species in the world, the locals are nonetheless excited to meet their guests, rather than suspicious or afraid; for some reason, they are not surprised that aliens exist, merely that they are here. In the weeks to come, the stabilized portals will provide a respite from the more confined lifestyle aboard Avagi. Travelers are warmly welcomed and encouraged to explore the land. Some things they'll find include...

culture shock
So coming upon the scene with poor Kaz, at least, is familiar. Siegfried has been there before, in terms of awkwardness. He's not really paying attention to much around him until a Kaittan child speaks up to him. He pauses, noticing the music and its emotion- before the children around him go to the woman, their laughter as they gently cling to her leg and speak with her bringing out a smile through the woman's tears. She doesn't seem distressed, only moved by what's been played, and it's a rather awkward situation for anyone involved.
Thankfully, it seems to be resolved as the children happily chatter amongst themselves and the vendor, causing the whole thing to seem less tense as the seconds pass. Some children even come up to Kaz, staring at the guitar with curiosity, and Siegfried can't help but to poorly hide a grin as he watches. He shakes his head.]
...sorry. They get excited by new things, I've found.
[They're not his, but he might as well have adopted them all, honestly. He's far too kind for his own good, sometimes.]
no subject
[He heaves a sigh of relief as the kids intercept. Though it doesn't take them long before they're at him, all curious gazes and prodding fingers.]
[Kaz sometimes claims to hate kids. He doesn't do a spectacular job of maintaining the appearance of dislike. Not when he starts smiling a little at the one that attempts to pluck a string, and when they hear the little pling sound it makes they back off and hides their face behind their friend.]
They're fine. That's most kids.
[He changes the song to something not quite as slow, more of a dancy flamenco, to keep up his end of the bargain while his groceries are being packed.] Looks like you have a pretty loyal fan club. [Actually the way their feet tack along the ground is growing on him, they genuinely sound like they're scampering. It reminds him of the few times he saw the child soldiers that had been extracted to the base try to play; lost children searching for themselves in simple games. These boys and girls are so far removed from those sorts of lives...]
no subject
It's fine. [Gently.] It won't hurt you.
[Several of the Kaittan children move forward again at his prompting, and Siegfried sighs, eyes closing as he exhales. It may seem like an annoyed gesture, but truthfully, he's pleased.]
I wouldn't exactly say it was my choice. [He can't help but shake his head as he opens his eyes again, a small smile coming to his face. They remind him of the children who would come to him in excitement and thanks so long ago, eyes grateful and hands trying to grab his or give him something, since he was a hero. That was a long time ago, an era that came and went- something he simply accepts for what it is.]
I can't say I mind it, though. [If anything, the kindness he's showing to the ones around him speaks a lot louder than words ever could.]
no subject
[Though Kaz would appreciate his legend, that he's a hero of a time gone by.]
I find that influential people usually draw admiration. And you have significant influence over this small crowd. [That are following him like ducklings.]
I'm Miller, by the way. I don't believe we've met. [He's still not out of the habit of offering his left hand to shake. The prosthetic arm still feels impersonal to greet with. So he just bows, a quick dip at the waist. Almost immediately upon rising, he's playing again. Just a touch of background music since the children seem so interested.]
no subject
I don't consider myself to be influential much at all. [He's simply being himself, and doing what he wants, for once. It's a very normal and good feeling.]
It's Saber, and we haven't. [His name is followed with a nod. Siegfried isn't one for handshakes, so Kaz doesn't come across as informal or anything rude at all. Saber may sound a little jarring or familiar to him, however, considering he's already met Karna.
The children still vie for his attention, and one tugs at his arm, hooves clapping against the stone as she keeps moving to the rhythm Kaz plays. Siegfried chuckles, but shakes his head. He's not about to dance in front of strangers, as much as the children want him to.]
no subject
[But maybe 'Saber' is just some sort of codename in general.]
It's a pleasure. And I don't know. I've met a lot of teachers that couldn't get their students to listen half as well as those children following you. [He nods towards the one that immediately squeals and hides behind his new giant friend in exaggerated play shyness.]
[It's a good squeal. Its one of those sounds that makes him wince a little in apology.]
no subject
Likewise. [He nods. There's so many people he's still not come across on Avagi, yet.] I-- [To say that he's flattered would be an understatement, but thankfully Kaz doesn't dwell on it for long.] The most I've done is answer their questions. They're incredibly curious.
[Incredibly curious about a man who is incredibly unique, to them. The Servant exhales, gently pushing the child behind him out into the open again, head jerking back towards the other in reassurance. Their hooves clip on the stone and move as they scamper around the both of them.] Though I suppose that's normal for them.
no subject
[It's a position he respects. Until he came to America, he had to teach himself.]
[Suddenly those children are scampering, and he can't help but think of baby goats with their excitement. Especially when he sees one climb up on something for a better view.] Most kids are. [Some are cruel, too. But these seem more eager than vicious.]
[Maybe it's because they're not human.]
Curiosity seems to be the main pillar of their culture. Or else they wouldn't give a damn about our stories. Here, the weight of history is as great as gold. Each detail a diamond. Words given as much value as actions, and our perceptions of our homes counting as much as any textbook synopsis.
[Ignore him, he has a penchant for becoming disgustingly poetic when the mood strikes him. It's due to a dramatic personality that's sometimes admirable and sometimes his greatest fault.]
