⋆ The storm around Thisavrou is particularly volatile this month - plums of dark energy twist and turn. There’s an upsurge in the number of Outpost techs called in to work in an effort to monitor and research Thisavrou’s unruly cage. Weather on Kauto is a moderate 70°F / 21°C during the day and 65°F / 18 °C at night, and Chioni’s has reached record highs of 130°F / 54°C at peak hours.

⋆ Savrii Notices:

Region One grocery depots are offering fifty percent off of any item purchased between day 41 and 45.

Region Four’s population of Gorgóna are giving away free underwater training lessons on the 51st day.

⋆ Mission notices have been posted to TABs for anyone interested in earning a little extra cash. Available missions are listed below:

Day 39 (February 10th) - The locals of Region Three (R3) are in need of “pest” control assistance. Creatures called Tanglesnakes have infested the trees and are eating the natives’ homes! Anyone willing to remove them will be paid 100 sencs per Tanglesnake. However, catching them might be tricky; they are quite fast and are smart enough not to be lured by snacks or kind words of encouragement! They also have a tendency to curl around and trip up anyone after them, hence their name.

Day 47 (February 18th) - The waters of Chioni are boiling! Scientists stationed out on the third burg are asking volunteers to bring back samples for study. Anyone willing to risk the harsh climates of Chioni will be compensated with 250 sencs as well as travel expenses up to 80 sencs.

Day 55 (February 26th) - The majority of Savrii responsible for the Ingress Complex’s upkeep have suddenly fallen ill, which has left them short staffed. For those not too proud to pick up trash and put a little elbow grease into shining the windows, compensation will be given for the time. This mission pays 40 sencs per hour.

⋆ As a welcome gift to all the new visitors, Savrii will be handing out treats.

⋆ Signatures are the base reason for traveling through the Ingress (aside from general exploration and monetary gain) and are used to discover the correct world visitors on Thisavrou wish to return to. Every visit through a different Ingress brings the technicians a little closer to finding it. The two worlds open for access this month only have a slight impact on the signature of each person who travels.

⋆ Missions are jobs or specific tasks listed on the TAB once new worlds are open for exploration. Be sure to check if Clearance Levels are required to accept some of these missions.

⋆Clearance Levels are given to visitors for the length of time they have been on Thisavrou (or traveling on the Moira). Each CL offers access to certain things or incentives that others will not have.

⋆ To welcome the new arrivals to Thisavrou, all visitors will be granted access to one of the worlds already known to the Savrii. Aueia (proper pronunciation here) is the native homeworld of a species some Moirans may already be familiar with: the migratory space whales. While isolated from the rest of the galaxy, the whales’ homeworld has been known to the Savrii for generations and viewed as a peaceful center of cultural exchange.

⋆ Although some disorientation is common enough with all Ingress travel, transit to Aueia is commonplace enough to make the trip relatively straightforward. A brief sensation of a fall and a wash of color (felt as much as seen), and visitors will find themselves stepping out onto the greeting dock. To leave, characters may make use of the same portal, or explore to find their own—there are multiple transit points scattered through the world, as well as a few maps designed for humanoid interpretation.

⋆ A gas giant encircled by a unique interstellar medium, Aueia holds three distinct zones.

The outermost layer, or "sea" of the planet, consists of a liquid shell inhabited by a diverse set of fluid-dwelling wildlife. A variety of tours go out regularly to explore the oceans, and platforms are set up along the boundary for those with interest in "beach" play. The fluid composing the sea is a pale green, and has no harmful effects on contact. However, human-analogous life forms will be advised against consuming the mixture, and may experience dizziness, indigestion, or mild hallucinations if they do.

The second, gaseous layer, composes the main range of habitation for visitors and other non-aquatic life. With an oxygen-rich atmosphere and a wide distance from the denser planet core, this region of the planet includes the Ingress dock and the majority of non-native living areas. It’s also known for its low gravity! A wide array of ships and settlements can be found floating through this layer of Auiea, including trade barges, explorers, and a wide variety of schools and learning centers. The lower one goes, however, the less stable the atmosphere, and pockets of dangerous or flammable gases have been known to gather near the boundary with layer three. Gliding equipment can be borrowed or rented at low cost for those who want to travel unassisted. However, visitors with no means of propulsion should take care—falling means a very long way down. On the other hand, you’ll have plenty of time to flag a passing flier to come grab you.

A strong layer of electromagnetic distortion separates the habitable second layer from the third. Once crossed, both gravity and pressure intensifies rapidly, well beyond the tolerance of most beings. Standard materials dropped through this layer will crumple and compress before sinking out of sight behind the orange haze of the interior. Even more disconcerting are the shapes that can occasionally be seen within: odd, gigantic silhouettes brushing by the surface of their world. These deep-sea wildlife can’t cross the pressure differential on their own, but are widely regarded as one of the main hazards to any efforts to explore the lower zone. By visitors, at least-- the whales of Aueia are the undisputed masters of their planet, and the only species known to move freely through all layers of their world.

⋆ As a world visited regularly by the Savrii, Auiea has a relay station set up to enable communication through the Ingress. Some lag may be expected, but TAB functions should persist.

⋆ Clearance Information (Each person can take what is noted for their CL or below into this world.):

Wildlife Preservation - The outer layer of Aueia is home to many creatures. Senc donations will be made to anyone that spends volunteer time cleaning up and caring for the wildlife here. (50 sencs per hour).

Object Retrieval - Samples, samples, samples. A sample (it doesn’t matter what it is) from each zone can be sold back on Thisavrou. Z-1 (100 sencs). Z-2 (200 sencs). Z-3 (300 sencs). Savrii will absolutely not purchase creatures that were hunted and killed. However, there might be visitors on Thisavrou interested in this.

⋆ Ingress technicians have discovered an energy link to a new world. It has been marked as Exploration Class (EC’s) and all who go through will be given a drone to use for documentation. As with the majority of EC’s, this new world’s Clearance Levels will center around weaponry, and most missions focus on security, research, and object retrieval.

⋆ The Savrii are an inclusive group - when they open this world for exploration, all visitors are allowed to enter. They will be told that, as it has not previously been explored, it could be dangerous and for all to heed that carefully before entering. High-paying missions, listed below, will be offered to anyone willing to take them through and Clearance Levels will be posted and applied to TAB devices.

⋆ The ride through the Ingress might be disorienting for some, though many will notice that the temperature steadily increases as they move through the blue energy. Upon entering this new world, they’ll find that the energy dissipates as soon as the person steps out of it. Discovery of a way out of this place is found in Exploration. Broken up into what can only be described as increasingly terrible levels of horror, this world’s only exit (energy that takes you back to Thisavrou) is found at the end of the seventh sector. Each level can be experienced with the same partner or someone different every shift.

Level One - You are neither here nor there. The ground is a muted grey color, almost ashy, and each leafless tree is an exact copy of the one before it. In the center of each tree is a carving, the word - Go. Ambiguous in nature, it’s hard to tell if it means to go back the way you came or to continue forward. The choice is in the explorer’s hands. No matter what direction you walk in, the landscape never changes. Colorless and barren, but without any sense of impending danger. After a thousand steps, gait is of no importance, there will be an abrupt shift and the second level will begin.

Level Two - That same empty landscape is cut by large, violent storms so close together that there is no place for respite. The wind whips you about, debris flying through the air cuts and breaks, lightening scorches the dirt, and the screams of swept up travelers can be heard from inside the massive dark clouds. The third level starts when the electric heat of a burst of lightning can be felt on your skin.

Level Three - Up to your waist, black slush stretches out for what seems like an eternity. As you trudge through, you’ll feel hands grabbing at your ankles and legs, tugging in an attempt to pull you under. The moment the sludge crests the top of your head, the hands let go. This cycle repeats until you’ve crossed two miles of the putrid liquid, and the instant that you touch land, your entire body will vibrate and you’ll be in the fourth level.

Level Four - Groups of travelers, some who have been here for a long time and did not arrive from Thisavrou, stand around groups of giant boulders. No matter which you choose, the stone will be extremely difficult to push. Grooves in the dirt show that previous visitors have pushed boulders to the top of a small hill and left them there. Whether you push your boulder alone or have help (one stone gets one person through), when it reaches the top, you’ll vanish and enter the fifth level.

Level Five - The heat and smoke surround you. There is only enough space inside the tomb for yourself and whoever else might be inside. Flames billow up on all sides and the stone coffins are hot enough to burn. There are two ways to the next level - put the fire out or let the fire take you.

Level Six - It’s a fight to overthrow. Spread out are thousands of people in various forms of battle - verbal, physical, mental. There is someone standing at the ready to explain, if visitors dare to ask them. They’ll spin a tale of the imbalance of power and how the only way to move forward is to best someone else. The method is up to the visitor, and there is only one rule - be the person with the upper hand and you can continue on.

Level Seven - You are now standing at the beginning of a cavernous, sloping landscape. In the far off distance is a storm set at the top of a craggy mountain. The energy is a familiar shade of blue - you came through energy just like it. It’s a harrowing journey, a labyrinth of twists and turns. Most get lost and overwhelmed looking for the path that takes them to that storm. Those that make it, who step into the light, return back to the place they had come from.

Research - Technicians are looking for scientific aware minds to document and look into the effects of Ingress energy on this world. They’ll pay handsomely for the information. Anywhere between 200 and 500 sencs, depending.

Object Retrieval - Samples, samples, samples. A sample (it doesn’t matter what it is) from each level fetches a fair price. L-1 (50 sencs). L-2 (70 sencs). L-3 (90 sencs). L-4 (100 sencs). L-5 (150 sencs). L-6 (200 sencs). L-7 (350 sencs).

Big Sister | Bioshock 2 | OTA

i. rapture 2.0 [kauto, region four]
[It is much like Rapture. It is nothing like Rapture.

The city lies underwater, as it should, not like those alien cities exposed to the elements above. This city has something like bathyspheres – bigger though, and oddly shaped. The buildings are also larger than they were in Rapture, so tall that their tops scrape the waves and looking at them makes the Big Sister feel dizzy. But it’s the insides of the buildings that truly make it plain that she’s left Rapture behind.

There are no splicers, for one. She spends hours searching and though she finds many of the city’s inhabitants look inhuman enough that they could be splicers, not one smells even slightly of ADAM. And that’s not even to speak of the city itself. There are no leaky pipes, no destroyed machines, no bodies out in the open. It’s spotless.

Eventually, the alienness of the place begins to chafe. It’s too perfect. It’s everything Rapture was supposed to be – everything the Big Sister had thought it was before the illusion had been shattered.

Most people would seek a respite from the city by taking a step outside. The Big Sister is no different. That this city is underwater is no impediment to her.

That said, it might be more than a little surprising to others who aren’t expecting to see someone taking a breather on the other side of the glass.]

ii. the beach episode but in full diving armor [aueia, outer layer, beach zone]
[The Big Sister knows what money is. As much as society may have collapsed in Rapture, they still had automated vending machines that the majority of the population was either too delirious or too dead to use, which meant there were still things to buy. There are a lot more things to spend money on here, but the basic principle still applies.

What she doesn’t understand is why the people in charge are paying to have her pick things out of the ocean – not even any one object in particular, just things. Still, if they want to give her money for something she’d likely do on her own anyway, she won’t complain.

If you’re on one of the many beach platforms lining the perimeter of this zone, you might happen to see a gauntleted arm appear over the side (no needles though – the authorities that be had insisted she leave those in her dwelling), shortly followed by a long, thin form garbed in what seems to be a heavily modified diving suit.

Once she’s fully on the platform, anybody caught staring will get a low, metallic growl of warning, the Big Sister's hold on the Pac-Disc in her hand becoming more possessive. Unfortunately, given she just hauled herself up onto a leisure beach in a full, combat-ready diving suit, a lot of people seem to be staring...]

["Mixed" is probably the most accurate way to describe Rey's feelings about living with the Savrii now. This isn't home, it isn't even her part of the galaxy--but, as had been pointed out to her numerous times, they really have no other choice at the moment. They'd all gotten the same spiel about where they could live and how they were expected to contribute to society, and she'd listened to it all with a slightly glazed look in her eyes. But once she'd seen the pictures of the third region of Kauto, she'd known that would be the place for her. There weren't any deserts on either planet, so she decides that maybe it's time for a change. Greenery is nice. It's comforting. Before she's even realized it, she's bought a place to call her own and is situated with wood over her head instead of salvaged sheet metal.

Days pass, and she tries to adjust. Interruptions abound, however, and needless to say, wrangling small animals is not Rey's area of expertise. The animals that inhabited Jakku were rarely small, and certainly never wrangle-able. So when she finds a small mammal gnawing away at the staircase of her brand new home, at first she is too shocked to react. At first, because it's... sort of cute. But then it dawns on her that it's chewing up the house she's owned for barely a week, and her temper flares.

So it is that Rey is running around Region 3 in Kauto, quarterstaff in hand, chasing after one of the Tanglesnakes through the forest.]

[While picking up trash isn't really something Rey had ever seen herself doing, missing more than one meal due to a lack of finances has taught her that money actually is important. There had never been any kind of currency on Jakku--only ship parts to trade for food and water. But bartering doesn't really appear to be commonplace on either planet, and though she's no stranger to hunger, she knows that she doesn't have to live that way anymore. So when the call comes for help at the Ingress complex, her reason for answering is twofold: she needs the money, and she also wants to check out the Ingress itself. She can be found on trash duty, washing windows, or wandering around the complex as nonchalantly as someone can when they're secretly trying to inspect partially unknown technology.]

[After that, he'll probably do something mundane, like grocery shop. Or look into fixing up his armor. But he's available to be talked into almost any sort of adventure along the way.]

The sea is beautiful...

[Sure, it's an alien sea. It's not even really water. But it's close enough for his tastes. Reinhardt has signed up on the scientific gathering mission. Because, for a while, he'd like to just take in this world. Take in everything that's happening around him. And it seems like a good place to start.]

[He turns to the nearest person, beaming at them. Showing off all his teeth in a positively delighted grin.]

[For the most part, after cashing in his mission and recovering a bit at his apartment, Reinhardt is going to explore. He'll stick mostly to Kauto. But nowhere is safe from the giant, curious, German man. Cafes, shops, parks... wherever you are, so too is Reinhardt.]

[Reinhardt’s partner in marine research today happens to be a very tall, thin person encased in what appears to be an unholy combination of an ancient diving suit and jury-rigged leather armor. Baleful yellow light shines out of the helmet’s face-plate as she turns towards him. Even if he can't see the person's face, the way the helmet fixes on him seems almost appraising.

His words only get a low, wary growl in response.]

Mei is happy to help the inhabitants of the trees with the little creatures crawling all over them. The notice on her TAB says they're hard to catch and she's finding out that that's no exaggeration. She's not going to be cruel, but being kind isn't getting anywhere. She needs the element of surprise. Blowing out a breath that ruffles her bangs, she looks to a fellow Tanglesnake wrangler.

"Maybe one of us should distract them and the other can pick them up?"

Though Mei is more used to freezing temperatures, she's a climatologist so of course the conditions on Chioni are intriguing. Her apartment there has wonderful air conditioning, but she's not afraid to go out and see what's causing this water to be so much hotter than the land. Perhaps it has something to do with the tectonic plates in the area and magma coming up? Well, she'll know more once they get out there.

Once consulting with the scientists and changing into a special suit for the heat, she's ready to head out with a partner to collect some water samples in special containers.

"We can't stay out too long, of course. But this should go fast. Do you want to drive, or should I?"

It's no secret that Mei loves helping to make the world a better place, and that now extends to additional worlds beyond Earth. On a boat in the middle of the world-encompassing sea, she works to monitor the wildlife here by submerging different instruments to check on the water conditions and amount of life beneath the surface.

At other times, she can be found in a wetsuit, jumping in off one of the platforms to make sure no sea life has beome trapped up under the platform itself. Feel free to come talk to her every time she resurfaces, but please, don't knock her glasses off the platform and into the water.

[Fareeha was glad she'd been able to team up with Mei; she hadn't been able to keep track of everyone once they hit Thisavrou, and it'll be good to catch up while they work. She slides into the driver's seat and situates herself, then glances over to make sure Mei is ready.] What do you think of all this?

[It's almost anti-climactic. After months of space travel, danger, and promises of a return home, they've come... here. It's still an alien planet, sure, but after life on the Moira, it seems practically suburban. They’re expected to find homes, stock up on groceries, find jobs -- it all has an unpleasant ring of permanence to Alan, but it’s not like he has any alternatives.

He spends the first couple of days swinging between bitterness and relief. He feels lied to, let down, and yet... this does postpone a few crises he hadn't at all been looking forward to dealing with. Crises that had all but overshadowed thoughts of anything else, if he's honest. Afterwards, he tries to think about it more moderately; they'll still have a chance to go home, in time. Until then, he has time to think.

During this time, one can find Alan shopping for necessities, wandering Kauto’s business district, and… messing with his apartment door? At least he’s messing with the panel, a grapefruit-sized roughly orb-like shape hovering just behind him.]

Okay, try it now, [Alan says, presumably to the shape. And the shape… obliges?

”No-yes-no-no-yes-yes-yes-yes,” the shape rattles off in a buzzing, monotone voice. Alan looks at the door, is apparently displeased, and then looks back at the panel.]

Alright, [he sighs,] let me see why this isn’t working...

[Asriel is out shopping too, an activity that feels so bizarrely mundane compared to everything that's happened to them in the previous months.

It was a shopping trip that started practical enough - there's two other kids living with him, he should be proactive and by food he thinks they would like... but maybe there's a couple of toys poking out of his bag that weren't part of his original shopping list.

The sight of Alan gets Asriel to stop. But the little floating orb catches his attention.]

Howdy, Mr. Alan! What's that following behind you?

i. Kauto, Region 1

[With their arrival in their new home came a sense of stability for Varric. He was nothing if not a man of habit, a man of habit who benefited from having a drink in hand at a certain time each day. He needed to set up shop, befriend the locals and weave himself seamlessly into the landscape.]

[It was the only way to learn anything good about his new home.]

[How he looked and what he did changed on a day to day basis. While most of the time he prided himself on being well put-together, later in the evenings his hair might begin to fall out of its tie, as Varric squinted and troubled himself over his work. A book might lie cracked open, or a notebook would be filled with endless pages of writing. Always, there's a mug of ale on his table.]

Mission 1 (Feb. 10)

[The first few days were uneventful. Venom had yet to find a place to settle, and he had planned on spending the month doing whatever assignments he could to build up money. And the missions could give him an idea of what these planets had to offer. First up were these creatures in Region 3.

The moment he arrived he was in awe. He'd never seen such a beautiful forest before. Not even the magic groves back home could compare to the lush trees, the cottages built right in, and the welcoming atmosphere. Once this mission was over, he would have to visit with Jim and Bartholomew. He's sure both of them will fall for this place just as hard as-

The noise catches Venom's attention, and within seconds he notices a bizarre creature munching away on one of the houses. Those must be the pests that require immediate removal. They are no match for a skilled assassin. And just as the billiard balls are launched, the creature darts between his legs, trying to trip him up.

Okay, so he's a little out of practice.]

[Aueia - Mid-month, exploring first and second layers]

[The gaseous planet reminds the former assassin of the strange cloud the Moira passed through. Though thankfully, there doesn't seem to be any ill side effects this time. Venom's offered transportation, but he declines for a chance to take in this new world on foot.

And the whales. The whales...

They're so rare in his world, and to see an alien one is a real spectacle to behold. Such magnificent creatures. He can probably be spotted staring at the whales, and when he's finally pulled away, he's exploring the beach. But no going in to the "water" today. Maybe next time.

Later on, he's in the second layer, and of course he's spending most of his time in the learning center. Instead of checking out the area via a glider, he's reading a stack of books.]

[Rinzler's not here for the mission. This isn't his system, these aren't his admins, and he refuses to accept assignments from any users as glitching stupid as these are. But threat assessment is a valid task in any sector, and it's chance that brought this place to the top of his queue now.

(Chance and, just maybe, the opportunity to kill something without security harassing him. No assignments means no function, and Rinzler has never coped with boredom well.)

Whatever brought him here... well, the show is certainly entertaining. As the blue-lit creature darts forward to tangle up Venom's legs, he'll hear an unusual noise from overhead. A skipping, harsh catch in what would otherwise have been a quiet whir. Between his lack of face and his lack of voice, expression has never been Rinzler's strong suit.

Still, the mask staring down from one of the platforms higher in the tree is slanted at an angle that looks pointedly amused.]

[Over the course of a week, Badou might notice a large armored truck withing a few blocks of Stray Jobs.]

[It's always parked seemingly out of sight. There's never a driver. And it never comes and goes throughout the day. It's just...there. Omnipresent.]

[On this day, it happens to be parked just down the street from Stray Jobs and...it's been there all day. No driver. Hell, no one even approaches the thing.]

Work is work, and their funds may be stable at the moment, but it would be remiss to let such things dry up, particularly as they would rather not leave the managing of finances to either of their housemates. Call it simple caution, if you will; Chara prefers to refer to it as wisdom.

And hence, here they are. Climbing trees and scraping their knees, twigs tangling in their hair and very suitably dismantling the picture of the nicely done-up porcelain shell they present to the world at large. Their Knife is sheathed at their side as they opt to attempt and catch the things between their fingers, to little avail. They are slippery, as though greased, and their long tails wind around the child's legs more than once, nearly dooming them to a long drop from one of the upper branches.

Eventually, they achieve mild success, pinning one of the wretched creatures in between clasped fingers.

Onlookers may savor the brief flash of satisfaction in their smile, or perhaps the grimace of pain when the horrible thing flips its tail and sinks its teeth into the flesh of their hand. Their smile does not falter, nor do they release their prize.

They will be getting their one hundred sencs in payment, even if they will be short a few ticks of HP in the process.

2/26; ingress complex

[Their clearance level does not cover the carrying of personal weapons, thus rendering off-world jobs very much impossible for the child in search of something with which to occupy their restive hands. Perhaps "impossible" would not be the semantically correct term; regardless, they have no intention of traversing to a world that will seek to separate them from the Knife in their possession. Not now. Not ever again.

Janitorial work is inelegant, and that suits them. Disgusting work for a disgusting creature. Those who witness Chara scrubbing windows or plucking trash from the grounds may take note of the utter lack of expression in their features, bereft even of their typical, glued-on smile. Distaste may ooze from every pore, but they will be loathe to grant anyone the satisfaction of witnessing such first-hand. Anyone who pauses to stare will be greeted with an empty-eyed blankness; scowling would require effort, and imply that you are worth such effort, which few people are.

[It had taken some thought and consideration, but he'd ultimately drawn up the rental agreement for an apartment in Kauto's 4th Region. It wasn't exactly like the residence he'd shared with his wife and son on Kahje, but the nostalgia it induced was strong enough he couldn't ignore its pull.

The climate control in the apartment's interior is top-of-the-line. Any human visitors will likely find the space just a touch too warm and a bit too dry for long-term comfort, but overall the space and atmosphere is perfect for occasionally entertaining.

There are only a small handful of individuals he's shared his new address with, and should they choose to visit him, he'll politely open the front door and usher them inside with a smile.]

2.) The Sand and the Shore
ACROSS THE GENTLE SEA
[Just a few short months ago, confined to the medbay and hooked up to a respirator, Thane had dreamed often of the sea in his sleeping hours and frequently contemplated it during his waking time. In the months since his near-miraculous cure, the dreams come less and less often, and his waking thoughts have shifted to other topics, to things more immediate and substantial than his no longer impending death.

The sight of the green sea stretched far beyond Aueia's horizon, and the surf lapping gently at the sand on the shore strongly recall his dreams. He'd come out to have a walk-around and to take in the planet's interesting ecosystem, but the feelings invoked by the sandy beach and beautiful waters put those plans on hold...At least for the day. Time, while still a precious commodity, is no longer in as short supply as it once was. While he's far too paranoid to completely lose himself in his thoughts in such a public space, he still approaches the edge of the water to stand and watch the horizon while the surf quietly washes over his feet.

SCENE: You see a lone drell standing knee-deep in the ocean, feet shoulder-width apart, spine ramrod straight, hands clasped behind his back, looking out to sea. Do you approach, y/n?]

3.) In Over Your Head
WELCOME TO HELL
[In hindsight, coming to Eosoros had been an enormous mistake. Each trial is worse than the one that's come before, and there's no guaranteed exit at the end, or even any guarantee that there's an end at all.]

iii.) THE GRASPING HANDS WILL DRAG YOU UNDER
[The black slush is waist-high and freezing cold, in addition to being a chore to trudge through. The feeling of hands constantly grasping at his ankles and calves does not improve the situation at all. Chances are high that his companion is faring no better than he is, either physically or psychologically, but he glances over anyway.]

v.) LIGHT THE FIRE, THEN PUT IT OUT
[The tomb-like space would be claustrophobic for one person, let alone for two. While the heat is a welcome respite from trials past, based on recent experience, it's also about to become a huge problem.]

[The storm in the middling distance certainly looks familiar. The rocky, cavernous landscape between their current position and the mountain looks like trouble. For as fit and as athletic as he is, it's been a very, very long time since he's had a physical challenge as grueling as the one he's experiencing currently. He's exhausted, both physically and emotionally. He knows he'll be able to push himself through to the end - through to what he hopes is the end, anyway - but what of his companion?]

I'd assumed, hysterically enough, that the Savrii would do a better job of looking at these places before sending us in willy-nilly to rummage around in what could be a hornet's nest. Now look where we are.

[ Well, Lucifer wasn't going to talk himself into an arrangement with anyone to get his nightclub back in these parts. While he wasn't exactly a fan of menial labor and the like, needs must, and he is the one driving, after all. As interesting as The Voyage Home planet sounds, it doesn't pay anything close to what he would prefer. This new world, however, does. Whatever anyone else is doing, Lucifer is there for security and samples. ]

[ It's all very reminiscent of his prison away from hell which definitely isn't the home he has come to call Los Angeles. The drab, color-bled landscape with nothing remarkable for as far as the eye can see. The dirt and dust is fine, kicking up with each step and mild disruption. It's already caked over the bottom half of him, and he's barely taken a few steps in. How charming.

Well, it isn't as if those samples are going to collect themselves, nor are the Savrii going to manage to save their own skins from utter boredom. Best get going as soon as possible. ]

With a view like this, I can't believe no one has thought to open up a resort. Corner the market.

[ Lucifer has already managed to work out most of what is required at this particular juncture. Instead of doing something useful, like helping someone else out, he's busied himself with picking out a sample to take back with him, whenever that is, and tossing idle, useless comments over his shoulder.

He hears a soft muttering of upset, and the sliding of a boulder, and chuckles. ]

I honestly thought you had it that time.

I doubt now is hardly the time to mention that it's a little balmy in here, yes?

[ Balmy is also very much so the wrong word. Flames as far as the eye can see, and on all sides. Their prison, tomb, whatever, is hardly big enough for one, and two is hardly helping the situation. He grunts in mild irritation as an elbow (he thinks) hits near a sensitive area, and grits his teeth. He's hardly scared that anything will happen. He's immortal and invulnerable without the detective in his immediate vicinity.

He doubts he can say the same for the person in there with him, but he might not mind being pleasantly surprised. ]

This gives new meaning to keeping the home fires burning. I don't suppose you have a plan at all, do you?

[ Lucifer's patience was worn thin after the trials of the day. This place was amusing at first, reminding him of all that he had left behind when he escaped Hell, and made his own place in LA, but now it only served to sour his disposition the longer he stayed. He was covered in things he didn't quite feel as though he should name, and entertained whether or not his clothing would count as a sample collected from all the mucking about he's done.

The last challenge, test, whatever had been the final one, it seemed, if the blue energy on the horizon was anything to go by. To be fair, it was less a light like that famed one at the end of a long tunnel, and more a storm as far as he could tell. There also seemed to be one more trial between him and it. ]

Of course it couldn't be that bloody easy.

[ Not one to be deterred now that he has his eye on the prize, he heads towards the storm, and into the labyrinthine twists and turns that bar the way. ]

[Just... go for it. Just live. Get by until someone called your number and took you home. Sent you home. Whichever. But that's... that just feels absurd. That it could suddenly be so easy. That you get handed a home and employment and something to occupy your time while you just waited.]

[It's... a lot to take in, for someone so used to being constantly on the go. Constantly taking more and more pressure on himself. Fighting. It's a lot to adjust to. More than he can do right away.]

[So when he first arrives, short of finding work, which ended up being easy enough, he ends up walking. A lot. Through the streets with shoulders hunched up in a coat he'd found with sleeves long enough to hang over his hands. Eventually finding his way to... ]

[God, it's a coffee shop.]

[Where someone is bound to bump into the guy built like a brick wall, just standing stupidly in a doorway.]



early feb: KAUTO 5 | LION HOUSE | OTA
Okay, I didn't think it was going to be this big.

[To be fair, he'd just sort of signed on for the first house available in a sudden fit of ours! Like if they didn't stake a claim soon enough, it was going to disappear. Or all of this would just be a dream. But the house looks massive to someone whose entire set of belongings fit into a disc.]

[And... basically only has the armor and clothes on his back to call his own.]

... Is that a lion on the roof?


mid feb: eosoros | OTA | all areas
[By about the middle of the month, the feeling of being unsettled passes into something more restless. And, so, of course he signs on for the first security type mission he can find. Something that sounds familiar enough. Something he probably should have thought through a little more before throwing himself into.]

[But he has to look after the people in that house. This is the best way to do it, when the 'job' he'd found falls through. He'd left a note, and gone. Armor and all. Only to find someone else's name signed onto the same mission. More reason to follow through.]

[Stepping off the transport... this is suddenly not the best idea he's ever had. Between the way this place looks, the way it feels... the sense of danger in just the first area.]

[The fight or flight part of his brain suddenly kicks into overdrive. He'll look at whoever he's with, grabbing their hand.]

Let's get this over with.

[And bolt. Taking his sudden companion with him.]

[Other areas net a similar response, with the man in black and white armor doing his best to shield or otherwise assist whoever might be with him. No matter the risk involved. You've found yourself with a protector.]


mid feb: eosoros | closed to DARIN | 6th level
[There he is.]

[Not for the first time, Shiro doesn't pay much mind to people trying to get his attention. Trying to engage him in a fight. There's just the teammate in the middle of chaos. Someone he has to look after. Stand beside.]

[They've got to come out the other side of this. They're close. Somewhere along the line, this became less of a security mission and more of a search and rescue. He's jogging over. Careful to keep himself in his friend's line of sight, just in case.]

[But as he moves, it slowly becomes clear what all these unfamiliar faces are doing.]

[This is a battleground.]

[Pre and post mission he can mostly be found on Kauto, in areas 1 and 5, either getting household supplies, or going to and from work. Run into him anywhere.]

[Just what the hell was with this world? Every time they made progress, it seemed like things just got worse and worse. All of this to collect samples...? Samples of what? They were just barely surviving!]

[Hell, how long had they been moving? It felt like days but could have been hours. All sense of time was gone now and even with his heightened stamina, every muscle screamed for a rest.]

[Surrounding them now was hell. Literally hell. A seemingly endless battlefield with every participant using whatever form of weapon imaginable; swords, shields, guns, rocks, sharpened sticks...it didn't matter. If you could best someone with it, it was being wielded with a desperate fervor. Darin kept close to Shiro's back, watching his partner's six as he swatted away anything and anyone that dared come close with a sweep of his dao.]

What the hell are we supposed to do here?! Are we even going in the right direction anymore?!

[Well, washing windows had been her job when the ship had still been flying. And honestly, not having to wear a spacesuit while doing it makes it much, much easier. If you happen to look through the window while meandering through the complex, you might see a small girl with small wings suspended on the other side, studiously washing and squeegeeing the other side. If she catches your eye, she'll give a slight wave and a smile. Hello there, this is totally normal.]

she's the last true mouthpiece [all month, stray jobs, kauto, region 1]

[God help you if you've come to this place looking for anyone semi-professional-looking. If you push open that door with the smudged nameplate, you'll be met with a teenage girl wearing a lolita dress sitting behind a lopsided desk. And she is dozing--well, was dozing. The second the door creaks, her head pops up, wings flaring out behind her. Her hands automatically scramble around the desk for a pen and some paper, and she puts on her best welcome-to-Stray-Jobs smile. It might look a little sheepish--after all, if you look past her relatively put-together demeanor, you'll see a rumpled cot in one corner and a sad potted plant in the other.

The girl points with her pen to the rickety chair on your side of the desk. Take a seat, and tell her what you need.]

every sunday's getting more bleak [all month, charles xavier's school for gifted individuals, kauto, region 5]

[The only real roommate Nill had ever had was Bishop, and he made sure to stay out of her way (an order from Heine, she was sure), except when she was in one of two places. The first was the sanctuary--Bishop had often asked her to listen to his sermons and let her know what she thought. This was easier said than done--a mute girl communicating with a blind man was more than enough trouble for a sitcom and a half. The only other place they ever really spent time together was the kitchen when she was cooking for the family group. Heine and Naoto never really ate much, but Bishop and Badou could scarf down most of a meal themselves; plus, she sometimes had to account for Yora or Granny Liza or any number of visitors that might pop by.

So it is that she's cooking far too much food for little old her in the communal kitchen. Pasta and marinara sauce--simple, but always a crowd pleaser. To be honest, she hadn't been able to find tomatoes at the market, just something that looked and tasted very similar. But she's hopeful that it will do the job, even if the vegetable (or fruit, she's never really known) is more purple than red.]

Seriously? Did your mother never teach you any manners?

[It is muttered under Rogue's breath as she stoops, picking up another piece of trash. Truth be told, it is going better than her previous attempt, which had been trying to catch those darn Tanglesnakes. Rogue had been expecting snakes, as in the slithering on the ground, scaly and reptile kind, although what she had found had been nothing like that. And, she hadn't gotten very far with them either. They had been sneaky little creatures, easily slipping away and just as easily tangling in her feet. She had fallen over several times before she had finally caught one, and in the end, one had been all.

This is easier, albeit a miss more mundane. Yet, she doesn't mind mundane. She has plastic gloves over her normal gloves, and a stick, if she wants to poke or jab at any of the items, and it does let her feel useful. It's not like her abilities are much help, unless she wants to go around leaving people passed out in her wake and her mind filled with all sorts of thoughts. She doesn't though, which is why she stabs at another cup, before putting it in to her bag. Moving around, Rogue does catch motion, and surprised, she glances up. And pauses. And stares. It only takes her a moment to recognize her, and while she isn't that high yet, Rogue can't say she particularly has any desire to be who knows how many feet in the air.

kauto: regions 1 - 5 [early february]

[ With an entire new planet to explore, Snake isn't going to rest until he's searched every nook and cranny to the best of his ability. Just as he'd searched the Moira from top to bottom when he first arrived, except that this is on a much larger scale. Still, he won't actually be able to feel settled unless he does this, which is why he'll be found all over in the first week or so of the month.

He'll be most often seen in Region 1, walking the streets of the city and ducking down alleys and into storefronts alike, sometimes with Jaegar at his heels and sometimes not. At one point toward the end of the week he could even be caught viewing a house for possible purchase.

He looks out of place in Region 2, the wide open spaces and long stretches of farmland seeming to unsettle him. Jaegar is another issue entirely, the husky bounding off in any direction that seems interesting, and Snake's forced to call him to heel at least a few times during his explorations.

Region 3 is certainly different, the swinging ropeways and the houses built into the trees enough to make anyone feel like they've stepped right into a storybook. It's not really Snake's style, but he still searches it dutifully. When a tanglesnake crosses his path, he raises an eyebrow at it, but doesn't make any attempt to chase after it.

Taking the long trip down under the surface of the water to Region 4 is enough to set Snake on edge. It's too easy to imagine the large glass walls breaking apart under the water's pressure. This place is definitely not his scene, and he can't imagine many of the crew will want to stay here, but he does still take a few moments to stare through the glass at some of the strange marine life swimming past.

Finally, there's Region 5, which looks as if it's the dumping ground for a hundred different time periods. Snake has to wonder if there's some sort of anomaly here, or if the Ingress is to blame for the wide range of architecture, some of it all-too-familiar to him. It's a fascinating place, if a little eerie in its own way, and Snake spends plenty of time getting lost in the streets. ]

ingress complex [early february]

[ As much as Kauto itself is full of interesting sights to see, Snake can hardly forget the overbearing power of the Ingress. It's the very technology that keeps the two planets going, as far as he understands, and he gets the feeling it's what's keeping that storm at bay too. Or maybe it's the reason for the storm. Who knows? Someone a lot smarter than him, probably.

All the same, it's hard not to be curious about this technology that's already made so much trouble for them, and so Snake makes his way up to the complex housing it not soon after their arrival. Outfitted in his sneaking suit, it's not hard to imagine what his ulterior motives are here. While he hasn't tried to break in anywhere yet, he's definitely thinking about it.

He passes by some of the locked-down laboratories, attempting to sneak a look inside, and is also generally found poking around in places he doesn't belong, at least where he can manage without immediately sounding the alarm.

With all this talk of signatures and sending them home, it'd be nice to see where all of this work is supposedly happening. ]

eosoros [mid february]

[ Strange, that after all this time they'll actually have to work for a living. Still, if there's something that Snake hates, it's being beholden to anyone. The Savrii have tried to treat them as guests so far, which is all well and good, but Snake isn't going to wait for the other shoe to drop and get caught with his pants down.

That means he needs to make some money for himself, and quick. Especially given that most of the cash he got upon arrival has already been spent on that house. It's an investment that should, in theory, be worth it, but it does mean that he'll need to get some jobs in the can in order to have a cushion.

So when a security job comes up that involves exploring an uncharted planet, it's hard to say no. Even after all he's seen, the prospect of visiting a place that no one else ever has before is a fascinating one, and the amount he'll make for taking someone along with him doesn't hurt. Snake makes sure to take his full loadout, given the warnings about possible danger, so he's got two of his handguns and his machine gun with him, not to mention a survival knife. For emergencies.

Stepping out into the uncomfortable heat of the planet's surface with the provided drone hovering next to him and the native Savrii standing nervously at his side, Snake takes note of another person situated not far off. He cocks his head toward them, the tails of his bandana sliding across his shoulder. Sweat's already beginning to bead near his hairline. ] You heading in too?

[A. ONE TANGLESNAKE TWO TANGLESNAKES ARE THERE ANY MORE (R3 - mission)]

In looking for a place to live, Liquid eventually decided on one of the treehouses was a fine place to make his home here. He can't help it. He likes to climb, and being up in the air should help him keep those smoke powers of his all in shape and everything, too. With modifications to make it easier for his dog to get up where necessary, his place was ready pretty damn quickly. Sure, he had to provide furnishings and the like, but he's taken good care of his pacdisk and all of his belongings.

He knows when to be prepared.

What he isn't prepared for, though, is coming home to find his dog barking at a small blue thing that got into his house somehow, trying to eat it.

And that's why he's now climbing the outside of his house, swearing at a group of the things, a machete in his hand.

He might be going a little overboard.

[B. TIME WON'T WEAR IT OFF (aueia - exploration)]

Of course Liquid remembers the whales. Even if it weren't for the fact that they're, well, flying space whales, the first planet he'd visited after finding himself on the Moira was one of their migration stops. It had certainly been a sight to behold, coming off the ship and seeing them flying around like that.

Experience and knowledge hasn't really changed the impact any.

He makes his way through the settlements of the second layer, looking for anything eye-catching. But he doesn't actually look too hostile; if anyone wants to join him, he most likely isn't going to say no.

[C. PICK IT UP (aueia - mission)]

Part of Liquid's job is, well, doing whatever jobs need to be done. Even if that job happens to be bringing back 'samples'. That already sounds bad enough (and he's never been good at science), but it seems he's wandered into the 'weird gross junk' kinds of sample finding.

"Hey. You." He nods at a random passerby. "What say we find somewhere a little more interesting for this sort of thing, hm?"

He's trying.

[D. I'M SICK AND NOT SPENDING TIME LOOKING FOR SONG LYRICS (eosoros - exploration)]

Of course he's going to check out the dangerous world. Why wouldn't he? He's planning on taking his first trip by himself, but apparently it doesn't work that way. He's fine with working with others, but it just seemed like the sort of thing he wanted to accomplish.

Oh well. So a partner it is, and he turns to nod at his companion, whoever it is. Either way, he's got plenty of weapons strapped to his belt, the dog's safe at home, and he's taking the 'go' of level one to mean 'keep on going forward.'

So, his first way through ended up being a success, so that's all well and good. Now that he knows the way to get through things, it's going to be simple to get through with someone who wants escorted, and he can make some good money along the way. That's fine by him.

He turns to retake the now-familiar landscape.

Region 5 - Lion House

As much as she just wants to get home, there'ssomething good and grounding about having a stable home to come to and people to share it with. Granted, she was still getting to know most of her new housemates (and their weird obsession with lions, which she just chose not to question), but they were friends of Darin's and Shiro's she knew they had to be good people.

She works to settle in and meet people as they come - not inflicting herself on anyone that wasn't ready and making herself available. Her door is open!

Region 1

Part of having a house means making it a home. Asides from larger furniture pieces which Fareeha will be buying later on as she can afford and save up for them, right now she is out getting necessities like paper towels and hand soap as well as some basic groceries. [Ravage has been crankier than usual lately. And a touch more antisocial. Having Megatron and Soundwave disappear on him hit him hard, and he's not taken it well. To top it all off. He's stuck in this place, with no way to follow. Though even if he could, what would happen back hom, considering he was dead?

So he's been around sulking, and just being an unhappy cat. But he's also been a hungry cat.

Thus he's taken odd jobs around the place to make money. Like the current one of chasing down the tanglesnakes, to help the villagers. But at least he gets to kill things, and get paid for it.]

[Or living dangerously for something that sounds so simple. He ventured onto this dangerous world, to find samples from it. Anything too dangerous, he's like to take out. Or at least try to.

He didn't sign up to work with anybody, but if it winds up that way, then so be it. They had a job to do.]

[She's supposed to be trapping those tanglesnakes, although her luck so far has been nil. They are craftier and faster than Rogue had thought them to be, and all she has to show for it are some scratches and a few leaves in her hair. Still, she could almost laugh. She's not running from people, or mutants, trying to harm or kill her, but rather romping around trying to catch some creatures.

She's taken a step back to reevaluate the situation when she notices rustling and movement, and for a moment she wonders if there is a whole stampede of these things coming her way, but it's just one, booking it up the tree. It does earn a rather perplexed look from Rogue, although a moment later she notices something else. Something black.]

[ Daryl's still not sure if he believes everything the Savrii said, but he's not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Or, well, he is, but only because he wants to make sure the horses on their farm are in good health. The little group from Georgia lays claim to a farmhouse in Region Two and sets straight to work, plowing and planting and shoring up their defenses like they were born to it.

Visitors might not get the warmest welcome if they come unannounced-- surviving the end of the world leaves you with some issues about surprises-- but Daryl can sometimes be found up near the road, riding along the edge of their property as though the fence is likely to have changed much since the last time he did it eight hours ago.

You might also find him closer to the hustle and bustle of the city, as the month wears on-- heading to the market with small shares of early, fast-growing greens or small, pastel eggs from the poultry they're keeping. He sells and barters and buys what they can't produce, not wasting any more words on it than he has to.

On those days he rides the En-Line, looking uncomfortable-- not motion sick, just uneasy-- standing restlessly by the door and stepping off as soon as he's able. ]

TANGLESNAKES

[ When the call goes out that Region Three needs some help hunting vermin, he heads out for an afternoon, confident he can make a few easy sencs.

He's wrong about that. It's not fifteen minutes before one of the critters knots itself around his ankles and sends him crashing to the ground, cursing.

Oops. ]

AUEIA

[ The truth is he'd be just as happy not to leave the bounds of their property at all. But he's been arguing for a long while that withdrawing and fortifying isn't the right way to build lives, and so when someone mentions space-whale-watching, he figures, why the hell not. Might as well make a day of it, and Carol's willing to join him, so they head for the Ingress.

Since the machine on the ship went haywire shortly after his arrival, Daryl hasn't got as much experience with Ingress travel as some-- so in spite of his best efforts to keep composure he finds himself disoriented and gawking a bit on the landing dock, staring at the pale ocean and the gently floating boats. It's a while before he manages to let up the white-knuckled grip on the guard rail and explore.

He doesn't swim, but after a while-- once he feels moderately safe-- you might find him dangling his feet in what passes for water, jeans rolled up and boots within easy reach, or wandering the docks and boardwalks. When he hears there's a reward for gathering samples he'll start picking up anything that looks like it might be of interest, but it's not much of a priority.

Being a tourist is entirely a new experience, but damnit, he's here to see the whales. ]

[He'd received the business license, which meant he was doing something as mundane as going through market wares, trying to pick out both a combination of goods that meant both good prices and quality (as Miller was both picky and incredibly stingy.]

[He recognizes Daryl when he's fishing through a box of what looks like purple tomatoes, putting them in a basket.]

[Miller recognizes Daryl mostly from a brief interaction. That time in the building, a level filled with the bodies of the dead. Now here they are on a planet where murder is very much frowned upon but their benefactors tore through a group of what appeared to be mostly unarmed scientists.]

[There are a lot of things that make him uneasy about this place, even in this region (a domestic land of plenty). But he's glad to see someone else that was equally put off about those losses. So he chooses to approach.] Hey, wanted to say thanks for offering your help. Nobody was having an easy time back in that complex.

[lúcio absolutely does not remember going into cyro, nor was he aware the cryo pods were still a thing. he can't help but panic slightly as he comes to consciousness inside one, still closed, still frosty. he swears slightly and bangs on the glass a few times which... almost works. the pod opens and lúcio falls out with a startled yelp and lands in a heap on the ground of... wherever he is.

the bone-tiredness of the traveling through the ingress planet is still with him and lúcio figures that all his current problems will resolve themselves if he stays laying face down. don't do him wrong, fate!]

b. i'm disoriented and confused aueia

[it's extremely disconcerting that he's lost so much time and distance - lúcio only accepts the travel to aueia because he simply doesn't know what else to do. for the first time in his life, he actually feels genuinely lost and he doesn't like it one bit.

When Rogue had heard that there were jobs available, she had gone looking at her tab. It is how she ends up in Region Three, on pest control. She's not entirely certain what it is that she is getting herself in to, but she's never had a problem with snakes, unless they are of the human kind. Yet, when she sees her first one, it is nothing at all like she expects it to be. Indeed, Rogue finds herself giving a laugh. "You're like a- a goat, monkey cat cross!"

Of course, as cute as she finds them, she soon finds them annoying as hell. Not only are they quick but they are also clever. It's almost like they are playing with her, letting Rogue get close enough, and yet once she goes to grab at it, it slips away. "Oh, come on!"

It does get worse. She's about to get one, has it cornered, with no place to go, but she hasn't been paying enough attention to anything else around her. Almost there, almost there... Inch by inch Rogue creeps forward, and just as she is ready to pounce, she finds herself suddenly falling forward, feet bound and down she goes, tumbling to the ground with a loud, "Ouch!"

[AUEIA | WILDLIFE PRESERVATION ]
Tanglesnakes hadn't really gone too well. She'd caught one in who knew how many hours. Picking up trash had given her a better chance, and Rogue had spent three days doing it. Yet, for now, three days had been enough. That is how she has ended up on Aueia. The place is quite lovely, and it reminds Rogue a little of some of the places she has seen in magazines, places that she had wanted to visit, but had never gotten the chance to.

She's spent quite a few hours happily helping out. Already has she cleaned a handful of animals shelters, creatures the likes of which she has never seen. It does make her happy though, knowing that she has helped something with her hands instead of hurting them. She's finished another one, laughing as the ambles off in to its clean environment, giving a little noise that she can't quite explain what it is. "Gods... Ah don't know what you are, but you sure are cute."

[EXPLORING]
There is so much to see and so much to learn. A part of Rogue is overly awed by it all. She had once planned a road trip, had even had it all planned out. Yet, plans had changed when her powers had manifested and she never did go about doing what she had talked to David about. Then again, she has also seen so much with the Institute, some of it good, some of it bad.

She's dressed in a light t-shirt, with elbow high white gloves over her hands, which are shoved in to the pockets of her jeans. She's managed to make a little bit of money, and Rogue figures she'll need to speak to the Professor, asking if he wants her to contribute anything. She hadn't needed to back in her own universe, but things change, and she doesn't mind helping. Yet, she is here and there, poking her nose in to shops to browse, or at the market getting a bite to eat. She pauses here and there, gasping in surprise at things she has never seen, and overall, she does look fairly at ease.

KAUTO | a little bit everywhere
[A part of him feels weird about accepting a farm in region 2 with "little" expectation, but given that there isn't an alternative he'd prefer, Carl goes along with his group and moves in. Everything he brought with him from the ship is pulled out and placed in the room he choose for himself.

Though there on a few things he scatters, with some order, to figure out what to do with on the lawn in view of the roadway. Most eye-catching enough the giant arcade machine with PACMAN clearly labelled and an odd looking handmade leather ball swishing side to side. They didn't seem like things that really had a place inside yet.

A part of him even wonders if he should trade the machine for something else, though looks troubled standing there pondering over it with a knit brow.

It's only much later that he finally decides what he doesn't need and packs it up in his disc thingy again and shoves it in his pocket. On different days of the month, Carl ventures to region 1 and 4 via EN-Line Travel for the day to find out what there is to see. He is welcomed by the sight of an extravagant open sky or the serene view of an ocean's depths. But mostly by what the two places have in common: people and trade.

Of the two, trade is all too new to him, which is why he revolves to be careful moving forward.

Trickery is surely ahead of him, though, as not looking over things here or there or listening to a dealer make it sound like he's getting a good deal will be hard.]

[When she's not working to earn some spare money (a concept that is still novel to her), she's out exploring. Some time has been spent at the Institute, finding out what is new and what is still the same, but she also goes to the other regions. It's not that she has the instinct to learn everything for some nefarious reason. Heck, beneath it all, she's still a young adult with mutation problems.

Her gloves are one, which are her safety net, but given how much traffic seems to be going on here, it's a good thing, she thinks. She's browsed from store to store, not exactly in the mood to buy anything as the funds she has aren't burning a hole through her pocket. It is by a little outdoor stand that she stops, admiring the various little pieces, although when one unexpectedly moves, making a noise, Rogue is jumping back, unmindful of who might be around her and just who she might accidentally be bumping in to.]

The black sludge still clung to his jeans, making his sneakers make wet noises every time he took a step. It's disgusting. Even if the samples they grabbed of it might fetch some good pay.

"For the record, this mission sucks. Never let me talk you into anything again." Peter stood in front of the line of rocks, staring distrustfully at the grooves in the sand. Pushing. What a pain.

"I mean, you should definitely always listen to me. Since I'm older and all. But talk me out of the stupid ideas, right?"

[It was a stupid idea to come back.

He knew it before he signed back up, he knows it now. This place was a shit show, a kind of twisted nightmare. The samples he'd gotten with Kurt had gotten them paid well enough; they could survive off the boost in cash until they found jobs. But he worried about how they planned to pay off the school, about Wanda and he found himself coming right back.

Another stupid idea: coming alone.

At least last time he'd had Kurt to watch his back. It had made the fighting easier,safer. Now? Now he didn't think it mattered how fast he was when the room was so packed with bodies straight from a hellscape.

His back hits someone else's as he tries to keep away from some twisted creatures swinging blade. He turns, fist and a knife raised, and it's only his power that keeps him from the instinctual blow.]

Rinzler!?


kauto; region one (open; mid feb)

[It's strange, being in a city again. It's strange to have a home again, to be living stationary again. Strange in the way it's all so familiar yet nothing like the world they'd been promised the chance to return to.

Peter's wandering a department store. What little he'd brought back from the ship wasn't really enough to make his new room feel comfortable. Now that he has space to himself he feels the need to decorate, liven it up. And maybe to just find things for Wanda -and, if he's being honest, the other teenagers at the mansion- do the same.

He's staring at a something that's similar too a bass guitar on a display. His fingertips are twitching, blurred little movements that to the trained eye, or to anyone who knew him, give away what he's thinking.

He could take it out of the store before any alarm system could catch on. It's close enough to the instrument he had in his bedroom back home. Peter shifts towards it, glancing around furtively.

It'd be so easy.]

[Peter's not the only one who came alone. Rinzler, though? Would definitely never have gone back. It took him two levels (and one bolt of charge that should have killed him) to recognize the purpose of this place, and when he did, it was as familiar as it was loathsome. Testing is never finished, after all. Never complete.

These challenges aren't set by Clu. That doesn't seem to make a difference. Rinzler wanders and falls, thrashes and struggles and burns in the fragmented haze of his own errors. Go. Fight. Don't react, don't move, don't speak, not ever. He does the best he can, and somehow that seems to be enough. But there's no rest, no pause, and when he rezzes into the next stage, Rinzler's still flickering with malfunction, raw and damaged systems struggling to cool. He's lagging. Slow. Enough to leave his back unguarded.

The impact of another body hits, and Rinzler jerks away, left hand snatching at his disk. It won't be enough. Not to delete the threat, not to stop the knife that's flashing up so quickly. (Or is he just that slow?) Rinzler's bracing for another should-be-derezz when the weapon freezes halfway there (or is that just another mis-process; another glitch?). The voice that blurts out his ID is some reassurance he isn't entirely faulty.

...or at least, that someone else might be erroring out worse. Why would that user fail to follow through?

Peter_Maximoff. Threat. Enemy. Rinzler completes his own reach without pause, disk coming up warily between. The ID check gets only a short, jerky nod. The slant of the helmet that follows is less a question than a search—even if the user understood, Rinzler wouldn't expect his confusion to be answered. Visuals flick across the seething mass of creatures: arguing, fighting, challenging and killing. Where are they now?

[Have you ever taken a job where you thought, "This job is insanely easy! How could they be paying me to do something so simple? It's like walking away with free money!" Did the aforementioned job immediately proceed to kick your ass in a way you thought was impossible? Did you curse your own hubris in the middle of said job? Well, good news, Darin is having a day exactly like that.]

[He's used to hunting monsters. This should have been easy.]

[Except he's hanging upside down from a tree branch, sufficiently wrapped up in combination of vines and tanglesnakes. They're crawling all over him and picking at his clothes.]

Aueia - End of the First Week

[Since he'd joined the Moira, Darin hadn't ever really been to a new planet before. This was his first chance, and when he had heard about the type of world it was, you better believe he made it a priority to check out. Normally, he'd find reason to turn this into a work day, but with everything they had been through lately? Not a chance. Today was a day to relax, to have fun, and to enjoy himself.]

[He's looking around, stars practically in his eyes. He's geared up in swimming trunks with flames on them, along with a fishing pole and tackle box. He hasn't been fishing in months!]

Alright, I wonder if I can rent a boat to go out and do some fishing! There's gotta be something, right??

[He hadn't been home since the incident with Shiro. He'd left Shiro in the care of real, actual doctors. He'd left Pidge and Allura a note that Shiro was hurt and where to find him. Then he skipped the hell out of Lion House before anyone could talk to him. Confront him on what had happened.]

[He hated himself for what had happened to Shiro. He hated himself and he was sure the others hated him too. It was his fault. He was too slow to act. Too...used to being on his own. Not worrying about what happened to him. Because of that, Shiro was...]

[He'd been wandering from bar to bar. Due to his heightened metabolism, he couldn't get drunk easily, if at all. But that sure as hell didn't stop him from trying. He didn't want to think about the events that had transpired. He didn't want to think about the voice he could hear every so often when he closed his eyes to rest.]

[A voice that said nothing that he could hear clearly. But he could hear it. Laughing. Goading him on. A voice that he thought he imagined when he had lost control after Shiro was hurt.]

[Currently, he's in the corner of a dank bar nursing a pint. It's not doing the trick for him though, but he doesn't care. He just wants to be left alone. But blue haired strangers in dank bars don't often get left to their own devices, do they.]

DAYTIME

[Out of the fire into the frying pan. That's how J sees the current situation, more or less. The group that previously was known as a 'crew' seemed to harbor unanimous distrust towards the Savrii and their new placement. A sentiment that J could concur. However, despite the wariness and suspicion, to her this place was an improvement. A huge on top of that.

Despite the memory of losing home called Moira still being fresh and bleeding in her mind, J couldn't help but prefer planet of Kauto to the spaceship. Moira had been huge, yes, but it still was a closed environment. Kauto was more open a city and regions full of people and life. It was no New York but the second best thing -- or at least if you counted all the stops they had previously made.

So it's really no surprise that once finding a temporary place where to stay the first thing she does is to change her clothes to clean and beautiful black dress, fix her makeup (something that feels she hasn't done in eternity) and heads out to explore her new environment. Her heels click against the stone as she walks down the pavement. And after a very long time, J could feel the sense of long lost freedom return to her as she breathes the fresh air. It's a feeling she didn't know she had missed so much

During the first days she makes it her business to know her ways around the first region, mapping routes, streets and all other useful information into her mind. Which, of course, also meant visiting any possible store and shop that pinged her interest. Clothing stores where she mostly just shakes her head in amusement at the some of the local fashion, jewelry stores, decoration stores and such! When not busy with shopping J makes her way to coffee shops sand alike, in which she's acting like the most difficult customer in the world. After holding up a line for nearly ten minutes she leaves the place with a hot drink in her hand.

Oh, it's great to be back in city.]

NIGHT TIME

A)

[But even more than a city girl J was a creature of the night and she sure didn't waste any to hit the night life of Kautos' first region. She puts on a dress that she associates the most with more 'modern' (or foolish, if you ask her) club life and heads out to check the places that this place has to offer. And only after a few she's gone through the most popular clubs in the area and pick her favorite out of them. It's just too bad that even this place seemed to lean towards the more obnoxious type of clubs with all the overly loud music and bright lights flashing across the room as the people tried to jerk and twitch their bodies awkwardly along the incoherent sounds coming from the stereos.

Well, it's still better than nothing, she supposes. Definitely a refreshing change to the dusty small room on the ship where they had held their speakeasy. So she's willing to be more forgiving to this weird culture than what she'd usually be.

She enters to one of the places where the doorman has already began to associate her as one of the regulars, and makes her way through the dance floor to the bar counter where she orders a new kind of drink which's name she can't even pronounce properly. The way she moved and carried herself inside the club is so fluid natural, almost as if she had always been there -- even though her appearance and demeanor were both clearly shouting 60s, despite all her attempts to blend in to this decade. Whichever it's supposed to be.

It takes a couple of minutes for her drink to be ready. It's a moment that she takes to quickly scan her surroundings and see if there's anyone seemingly interesting around. So far she's trying to increase her social pool within the locals, something she considers rather useful since she's going to be staying on this planet for a while now. Of course, there's the undeniable unity among the Moirans --- or whatever the people brought through the Ingress were called now -- but they didn't necessarily ping her curiosity the same way they used to. Now the palette is much bigger and diverse compared to the closed social circle on the ship.

And once her order is set on the counter in front of her, J grabs it and moves towards the nearest person to her. After all, it's a club night and she would hate to spend it alone.]

Hello. [She greets with a sweet voice and raises her glass towards them, as a sign of a toast.] Say what you want about this place but at least the cocktails they make are delicious, don't you think?

B)

[Now, it's been a bit past a week since they had arrived to this world. It's a late in the night, very close to a morning in fact, and the streets are quiet. Maybe you're one of the unfortunate ones who's either leaving or starting work at this ungodly hour. Or maybe you're just having a pleasant walk and enjoying the night sky? Well, whatever the reason is, you will soon notice that you're not alone as a loud and overly cheerful laughter fills the empty silence in the street.

There's two people coming from the direction of smaller districts towards the main streets. They both look like they're leaning each other as they walk. The larger figure, who's seemingly male, has his arm tightly wrapped around the smaller one's waist, who in return has placed the palms affectionately against his chest. It's really no surprise that the smaller figure just happens to be J. Dressed up in her best outfit, decorative diamonds shining in her ears and neck.

The couple laughs and talks to each other without paying much attention to anyone else around. While the exact words can't be made out of their voices, which truly is a good thing here, the tone that carries from them can't be mistaken for anything else than flirtatious.

Talk about awkward.

When they reach the end of the street, the couple stops in front of a big building and the male looks at the clock while muttering something about time flying past fast. J counters with a playful shake of her head and asks him not to go back just yet. The man leans down and says something that drags out another loud giggle from J. Then they both exchange kisses on their cheeks and man hands over an envelope to her just before he steps away and enters the building, leaving J standing there alone.

She waits a polite moment before she turns her back to the building and spitting out a gum she's been secretly chewing on. She opens her handbag and takes out a pack of cigarettes. And with quick movements she flips the pack open and places one smoke between her painted lips. Only after lighting the cigarette she starts walking away from the building while carefully opening the envelope to go through it's contents -- which appears to be lot of papers and documents. And money.]

It had been Lamb’s slogan, one of many. And though it’s not quite true, it does have some basis in fact. It’s the Big Sister’s job to keep watch, to stay vigilant for anyone who would harm her Sisters or take their ADAM, and eliminate the offenders as necessary.

This though? This isn’t that.

The woman making her way down the street now has done nothing to earn the Big Sister’s ire – but she has earned her attention. Most of that lies in the way the woman is dressed. She looks like she could have waltzed straight out of one of the feverish hallucinations of the Big Sister’s childhood, sparkling and clean like only nothing in Rapture ever truly was. Even the cut of her dress looks familiar, like something glimpsed in a dream.

The Big Sister likes to think she’s above a Little Sister’s childish penchant for pretty dresses and made-up faces, but at the same time, she’s not quite ready to let the woman out of her sight. So she follows – from a distance, of course. This place doesn’t have as many dark corners to hide in as Rapture did, but it has the occasional alley or shop to duck into should the woman turn around. The Big Sister figures there’s no harm if she isn’t caught – and if she is, there isn’t much the woman can do about it anyway.]

[To call the past 24 hours overwhelming would be an absolute understatement. For all intents and purposes, Angel had died an agonizing death, her one solace being a final spit in the face of her father. She had thought that would be the end of it, a gentle slip into an abyss -- there’d been enough hell on earth for her to assume that there would be no afterlife.]

[And yet here she woke, in a room with countless other people all experiencing the same sort of bewilderment. She’d explained her situation to the technicians, who simply assured her that it was simply one of the many wonders of the so-called Ingress.]

[They handed her a guide and the one item aside from the clothes on her back that had come through: a broken collar.]

[She’d spent the remainder of the day in a daze. A great many people offered her a hand in her turmoil, but at the end of the day, she felt no better about her situation. Where there was relief and a sense of freedom, there was also dread. Though a brief peace had overtaken her, her limbs still quaked, and her throat ached in a thirst that couldn’t be quenched by any normal liquid.]

[She was alive, but only just.]

[At the highest moments of her doubts, Angel unclasped the collar in her hands. She knew it wouldn’t work, knew that whatever power was contained within it had been fried either back on Pandora or in her travels. Yet still, she placed the cool, cruel metal around her neck, fastening it around her throat.]

[Above her, the lights still flickered.]

ii, Kauto, Region 1-- General

[Much as she would have liked staying in the relative calm of the Complex, there was little room for her there, and her stipend was too small to manage it. She needed room to spread her wings, so to speak, and to hide away from others lest her powers become too much to control.]

[Though she spent much of her time ducking into alleyways in order to avoid the vast swaths of people, eventually a gnawing in her stomach and the smells against her nose grew to be too much. Though her stipend was minimal, she knew she couldn’t survive without foodl.]

[After buying a small bowl of soup and a bottle of water, the siren excused herself to the mouth of an unassuming alley and sat down. The soup burned her throat as she spooned it in, yet she continued to shovel it in.]

[How long had it been since she’d eaten?]

iii, Kauto, Region 1-- Medical Facilities

[Angel didn’t last long before the tremors took her again. She’d been careful, tried to stay as close as she could to where she’d discovered the medical complex, but all the same her journey was a difficult one.]

[She spilled into the entryway and sought out the nearest official face.]

iv, Kauto, Region 4 -- Entrance

[Perhaps a week or two after her arrival, after she’d managed to get her symptoms under control, she found herself at the docks. Her fingers clenched around the metal circle in her hands, tight enough to make her knuckles white against her skin. She’d long since gotten used to the feeling of wind on her face, but the smell of brine was an entirely new sensation altogether.]

[If you asked her, she’d insist that the moisture on her face was just from the spray. If you didn’t ask her, and simply waited, you might see her lean back, hand holding the collar raising up high. A few moments longer, and the collar she’d kept was tossed into the sea, hopefully never to be seen again.]

[It is, of course, simply spray cast across the young woman's features as she stands there, hurling something into the wind-tossed waves as though it were discus or some other easily-disposable artifact.

It is simply spray, and nothing more. And the small child who watches the thing cut a glittering arc in the sky does not flinch when it impacts the ocean's surface with a faint splash, and, in all likelihood, sinks straight to the bottom.

They regard the culprit with their typical deadened expression, bereft of even a cursory smile.]

What a waste.
