GREAT
[They eyelids are a little weird, to be fair, but so is the. Y'know. Lungs. Blood. Stuff like that. Also don't mind Drift, he's staring at his hands and flexing his fingers like he's never seen hands before.]
I mean, it's interesting, but having skin feels really strange.
:B
What do you normally have instead?

[Well that just puts a whole lot of stuff into perspective. Being human is weird, but at least he's already used to possessing organic biology.]
Drell have inner ears, rather than balance sensors. They provide the same function, though.
no subject
[He looks totally stoked right now hot damn. He feels at the side of his head for wherever the hell his ears might be. At least on humans it was pretty easy to figure out, he'd seen plenty of them before, but this whole lizard inner ear voodoo was a bit trickier.]
You need ears to balance? I never would have guessed.
no subject
[Wow, did he just make this guy's day, or what?
...That's pretty nice, actually.]
They're rather complex organs, and thankfully difficult to damage.
no subject
Ohh, that's good. So I probably won't break them. Drell, is that what you said? I've been around for a long time, but I can't say I've ever heard of such a species. What planet are you from?
no subject
[Which are two more things most people here haven't heard of.]
no subject
So your people are used to space travel. Is that a planet you've colonized, then?
no subject
no subject
[Well that was a little more horrible than Drift had been expecting to hear.]
I'm sorry if this is too personal a question, but what was happening to your species exactly?
[He really hopes the answer isn't "oh well this fuckhuge cybertronians blew it up because of their shitty civil war". That's a thing that kind of happened a lot.]
no subject
[Just wait, Drift, it gets better!]
The drell were facing extinction due to heavy overpopulation and a lack of planetary resources. The hanar observed what was happening, and made first contact. They evacuated roughly 375,000 individuals out of a population of over 11 billion.
[Does he have to tell Drift what happened to the 11 billion losers who got left behind, or can he infer it on his own?]
no subject
[Focusing on the wrong part of the story there but heyo. Aaand yeah he can figure it out from there.]
That's an incredible thing that they did for your people. I can't imagine what it must have been like, knowing that so many others were going to be left behind. That couldn't have been easy for anyone involved.
no subject
I imagine most organic species are rather short-lived by your standards.
[Buuuuut yeah, anyway. That sure is a thing, yup. Thane nods.]
I can't say I know how it must have felt to be one of those making the decisions, but I'm sure you're right.
no subject
[But yeahaaaaahhhh what a depressing topic WOW.]
Sorry, I... didn't really mean to steer the conversation in that sort of direction.
no subject
[He shrugs.]
There's no need to apologize; it's natural to be curious about such things, and I don't find it particularly upsetting to speak of.
no subject
I've never heard of either of those. We must not have ever made it around to your part of the universe, which is probably for the best, honestly.
Oh! My name is Drift, by the way. I probably should have introduced myself sooner.
no subject
The universe is a big place, so it's not surprising.
My name is Thane. It's good to meet you, Drift.
no subject
[can he be chill about giant derps because DERP]
no subject
True. Although of course it's possible that we come from completely separate universes entirely, which would also explain the missed connection.
no subject
Ooooh, right! That's a thing too! I've never been too scientifically inclined, so I couldn't even being to describe how all that works.
