Between the Perspectives
"but in your future, the you i see is exactly the person you always wanted to be."

Supplies have been loaded onto the ship, and the captains have encouraged all crew members to explore with the added notice that this will be the last planetary stop (hopefully) until the Moira reaches the Midway Hub. While seemingly uneventful on the Moira, the mini colony has been thrumming with adventure and has offered its visitors the opportunity to explore. To those who have indulged, some experienced great changes and others discovered enlightening information about the Ingress and the very ship some have called home for over a year.

Later in the month, the Lamaria hold the closing ceremony of the Desiderium Festival (which was noted on the prior event log) . The burgundy and lime colors of the celebration slowly fade into black and vermillion, and small fires are now in place for visitors to throw their written notes into. Everyone who participates will be blessed by one of the Lamaria (they will visit the ship as well), and the MID will be able to only translate bits and pieces of what this blessing means. "Experienced loss — every story is different — and saying goodbye — not to know — understanding lies in the mingling of holding on and letting go."

TRANSFORMATION CENTRAL
For some, it might be due to a touch or a look. For others, it might not be any of those things at all, and something that just happens. Either way, shortly after the blessing occurs, you will find yourself changing. Your character’s body will slowly transform into the physical likeness of another being on the Mini Colony. The effects of this change may last as short as a day or as long as a week, but each come with their own stipulations—advantages and disadvantages. This is limited to one as the blessing itself only allows for “a little understanding”. Linked below are some of the possible transformations that your character can go through. Players can choose either one of the mod-supplied suggestions or choose the form of another already living on the Moira.

THE FEAR MACHINE
Paranoia writes the checks, we're dangling here like a marionette. Here we go again, the world is coming to an end. Engage the fear machine and collect the dividends.

While the festival is beautiful, and some have found enlightenment and understanding here, there are those on the mini colony who don't enjoy the festivities. In a secluded room on the fifth floor in one of the buildings in the Science District, there is one such person who finds the religious festival to be a nuisance—one who should be stopped. Thinking that disrupting the blessings and celebration will somehow "get back" at the Lamaria for impeding their work (some of those who have transformed got into the building a few years ago and destroyed this person's property). Pettiness thrives, and they create something they dub The Fear Machine. Yet, while the science is sound, the technology itself is not.

In the middle of the mini colony, the machine is set off, and bolts of transparent energy erupt and spark out around it, stretching as far as the docked ships. Since the technology wasn't created properly to sustain the energy, it doesn't spread out evenly like they had hoped. Some are hit. Some are not. Those who are will develop a sudden and overwhelming phobia that will last well into the beginning of November. The machine might be turned off and left behind, but the obsessive fear has only just begun.

Truth is he feels a little badly about that-- he didn't mean to play that rough, but the kitten springs back up. Probably it's all right, right?

Ignoring the animal's still-aggressive stance (even if it's practically shaking) he reaches down, both hands cupped this time, to pick the oddly-glowing cat up. And isn't this handy, it can't even wink out of existence to get away. Scooping the kitten up, he keeps one hand loosely grasping the back of its neck, trying to keep it docile.

He's not expecting much success, really.

Winking out of existence is definitely not a specialty. Speed is, and the moment the hands reach for him, Rinzler's working to make use of his. A paw swipes out, aiming for the inner joints of one hand as he launches forward and up. Touch down on the other wrist, lunge in past its reach—

—and, he finds his rampage cut abruptly short by a firm grip closing around the fur and skin behind his head. It's shock as much as violence that has him twisting back, pointed teeth angling to bite. He has a handle. Why does he have a handle?

On discovering he can't quite reach far enough to execute the bite, the kitten's flailing grows markedly. Rinzler twists against the hold, leveraging with his paws to launch against whatever's within reach—or dig in and shred if it's a piece of his opponent.

None of which is nearly as lethal or effective as he might prefer. But it does mean Daryl has acquired One (1) Bundle of Hissing, Clawing Rage. Enjoy.

Yeah, this isn't going particularly well. He keeps the kitten at arm's length, because even if it's small it's damn mean. The grip on its neck helps limit the damage, but doesn't do anything to calm the creature down-- he really hoped it might-- and frankly he hasn't got many more ideas.

Without meaning to, he growls in response-- low and warning, easy enough for him to write off in his own mind as a grumble at the stinging cuts the animal's inflicting, though it's far deeper than that, decidedly animal, instinctual. Remembering what little he knows about dealing with pets-- Josie was an outdoor cat, didn't make much trouble, but you pick up bits here and there-- he leans in and blows a puff of air in Rinzler's face, like a hiss, trying to cow him a little.

sdlfkj I am so sorry Daryl does not deserve this tiny shit

Rinzler can feel the growl as much as hear it, threat rumbling through the entrapping hold, filling the air around him with its stink. He needs to fight. He needs to move. The kitten struggles more furiously, if anything, spine inverting as it slices towards the gripping hand. Better to be furious than scared, better to fight and kill and die than give in to the raw panic flushing through his code for even an instant.

Fear is crippling. Anger, he can use.

So when the monster's face draws closer, sharp-toothed and massive, when its jagged maw opens to exhale a dank, harsh gust of fluid-scented wind? Rinzler's focused enough to register one fact.

That muzzle is, just maybe... within reach.

The kitten twists in the hold, one paw leveraging off the hand holding him. His back legs have longer reach, and both of them slice out, a liquid arc of small-clawed violence aimed at the werewolf's sensitive nose.

it's his own fault, probably.

So much for cat behavior.

That determined swipe does just what it's intended to-- it connects, and he doesn't see it coming. Congratulations, Rinzler-- as long as he's able to do what cats do and land on his feet, the program-kitten will be free. Daryl's grasp loosens with shock, and he drops the kitten, growling a curse and putting his hands over his face.

dunno, it takes a lot to deserve Rinzler

Freedom! Also, victory! The kitten twists as it drops, limbs already coiled to dash by the time it hits the ground. He zigzags off down the corridor, putting some space between himself and the threat before leaping up to whatever door console, ventilation duct, or wall ornamentation he can reach. The high ground, Rinzler has it.

Defensible position now secured, he busies himself with puffing up and growling back. Fear his tiny, pointy wrath.

The scratch isn't much but it stings, which means he's still pissed off, a low and not-entirely-human growl resonating as he stalks down the hallway. At least he's clever enough not to put his face so close this time.

And fortunately for the both of them, still human enough not to be hell-bent on eating the kitten for breakfast.

So, that's where this has gotten the both of them: a growling standoff, man versus kitten.
